Great video, thanks. I have seen it done both ways, through the access hole in the wheel well and now this way too. One thing, DON'T forget to put the bulb cap on before you re-install the air filter. I think that might have been left out. Time for me to tackle my failed light!!
@@drewcarter7948 thanks to your help, I was able to change my Driver's side bulb in about 10 minutes!! I then tackled the passenger's side, that took a bit longer, but mission accomplished. Thanks Again!!
Great video. A very efficient use of my viewing time. Thanks! EDIT: You're awesome! This told me exactly what I needed to do. Driver's side took about five minutes. It was a little more wrestling of the lower filter housing than I was expecting, but having seen you do it gave me confidence to keep wrestling it.
Used this for doing the passenger side and then came back when the drivers side went out. Both times I didn’t realize/forgot that there were two little knobs you have to release to get the bulb free. I have a 2019 GC Limited X for reference. Don’t know if that’s how it is on all other trims but once I got that it made things go smooth lol
Thanks for the help! Something not shown is you need to loosen the coupling on the air inlet pipe in order to remove it so you will need a flat head screw driver. Popping the whole filter housing out was also kind of hard, I really had to pull on it but it's been in there for 9 years now.
Thanks for showing how easy it is to take the air filter assembly out, saved me at least an hour or more. From other videos, it seems my 2019 has a different housing on the back side of the headlights from the other years. Barely enough room to get your fingers in. Saw a video on an like a 2013 where it was one long thru-bolt on top and the whole headlight assembly would come out. It's like they purposely tried to build in 4 hours of service charges when they designed this. Not Jeeps finest moment. I put LEDs in mine which wouldn't have been needed if they put decent headlights like my Infiniti.
Very helpful! A little dizzy with the camera movement 😄(but understand the limited space to capture what you were doing). Very direct to the point and made this process (step by step) very easy to follow. Thanks for putting this out there!
If that is the HID bulbs then no twist and turn lever on right side you can pull lever down remove bulb put new HID bulb back in and put the lever back up, fought with mine for two days then a Good Friend looked up HID found the link for my 2017 GCL. Back in in 15 minutes, thank you my friend.
Great video - I need to do this for my daughter's 2019 GC and it appears unchanged in design. I am guessing that the first step to removing the large Air cleaner hose was loosening the hose clamp? I know I'm late to the party :)
Excellent video. I ended up pulling off the air filter housing etc to get to the bulb but eventually used the wheel well access point to seat the bulb back into its slot. Getting it to bite from the above angle was an epic poem in 3 parts. From the wheel well it clicked right into place. Now that I know the situation better I might actually opt for purely the wheel access option if I need it again the future.
This was so helpful! I’m a millennial gal who is cheap! The mechanic was going to charge me $100. SCREW that $18, a pocket full of choice words and she did!!!!
Yes, great video and the “preferred method.” You need hands the size of a 3 year old to go through the wheel well. Car manufacturers today really do overlook the basics. Try and change the battery of a new car… if you can even find it.
Nice video. On my 2015 I had the drivers side done in 5 minutes. O. The passenger side moving the ECU was easy but my hand was still too big to get enough leverage to twist the bulb out. Had to improvise and take the cap off in the wheel well and fish a real long 1/4 drive extension up into the light housing and use my hand from the top to push the bulb connector with the extension to gain leverage and it moved easy.
Thanks for video demonstration. It worked out just like stated. Slightly tricky getting the hand down in there to twist socket and re-install, but it worked with a little maneuvering.
Me with my little hands was able to do it from the tire side :) although I took the bulb out from the top hood area to see exactly what I was supposed to buy. Boy did I regret taking it from the top. For me it was faster from the bottom.
Passenger side requires front end removal to loosen up the headlamp assy. Engineers should have been fired for this. 2018 also has a rubber fisphram type cap instead of the plastic dust cap the 2014/2015 had.
2015 Jeep Laredo Grand Cherokee, worked as advertised! Not a mechanic here, trust me when I say that, and 75 years of age....took 30 minutes total, start to end.
Thank you for your video. I have a 2014 grand Cherokee Laredo and my low beam bulb was on the passenger side but still tricky to reach. A combination of the hidden opening by the front tire and reaching in from up above did the trick. Had a hard time turning base of bulb due to angle, but once I got enough pressure it popped right out. I am not mechanical & was able to do. 💪🏼 👩🏻🔧
Great video! I used your video as a guide but I made 1 simple little error which turned into a major delay. As I was installing the new bulb I thought it was in but there is a small gap where the damn bulb fell thru....why is there a gap I have know idea. I couldn't get it pulled out but luckily my wife's smaller hands had better access to get it out. After that, done in 5 mins.
I dont know if my hands are bigger than regular but I was unable to swap the bulbs (well I could get it out but twist it back 45 deg is too much). Finnaly I managed to do drivers side with 3d printed H11 key to secure new bulb in place through wheel well (however passenger side beated me).

Okay so mission accomplished but ir took me around 40 minutes. Passenger side advice: don't bother removing the cap in front of the wheel arch, it's pointless and a waste of time. Pull the tab on the ECU and pull it up and out of the way. If you want to make it easier unbolt the water expansion tank and move this out of the way too obviously don't disconnect any of the pipes!) Reach and feel for the cap, twist it off and remove it. Now this is what this guy doesn't explain very well: You'll feel the back of the silver box ( the existing bulb) ignore that feel slightly further inside, you'll feel flat plastic pieces. Use your right hand thumb and push this tab down. You'll need to quite forceful, you'll feel it click down.then with your right index finger under the tab, push the tab on the other side up. You'll feel the bulb come loose and you'll sigh with relief. But your not out of the woods. Pull the bulb towards you and feel for the connector. It's a Jeep so they don't give you much to play with, the cable is short. Get your replacement bulb and attach it to the connector. Then spend 10 minutes fishing around trying to get the bulb in place ( pushing the bulb in whilst trying to twist the tabs). Once you think it's in the correct place, put your index finger on top of the far side tab and push down and the other side with your thumb push the tab up. Check your lights are working and replace the cap, your ECU and expansion tank. Then with your thumbs cut to ribbons, don't forget to thank me. Remember it's not the bulb it's the tabs either side!
There are little caps at the bottom(inside) of the air filter. They sit on top of the screws that hold the air filter from underneath. I did not see the caps in this video. Does anyone know how to remove them? Do you just yank them out? I got quoted $253.00 today because they said it would take them 2 hours of labor to do this job. I am not handy at all, but I refuse to pay that much to replace a bulb I bought for $11.00. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
