I love how Death Riders counter charged the enemy formations. This makes me remind a myth about Polish cavalry charging tanks with sabers in hands. Watching this 3rd or 4th time. Keep doing the Emperor proud of your work Arch.
It's not a myth. What really happened was the Poles thought that they were charging into an infantry platoon and found themselves sandwiched between dug-in machine guns and a Panzer platoon. Realising that charging the entrenched MGs would be suicide, and that trying to turn around would take too long at their speed, the cavalry decided to charge the Panzers for two reasons. 1) They could put the Panzers between themselves and the MGs. 2) They could move faster than the Panzers' turrets could turn. Having outmanoeuvred the Panzers, they used grenades to disable them, then fled into a nearby forest. Pretty badass tbh.

The Bugle sounds and the charge begins But on this battlefield, no heretics win The smell of acrid smoke and chembeast breath As we plunge on into certain death. The beast he sweats with glee, we break to run The mighty roar of the Vraksian guns And as we race towards the heathen wall The screams of pain as my comrades fall. We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground And the Vraksians fire another round We get so near, yet so far away We won't live to fight another day. We get so close near enough to fight When a Vraksian gets me in his sights He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow A burst of rounds take the chembeast below. And as I lay there gazing at the sky My body's numb and my throat is dry And as I lay forgotten and alone Without a tear, I draw my parting groan
The 19th Regiment’s Death Riders are, so far, THE best example of Kriegers and their concept of sacrifice. They died, yes - and yet, it essentially allowed the retreat to complete. That is so worth every single one of their horses and lasguns.

@Comstar: Space AT&T are the death corps genetically identical? This may seem like semantics but that truly is the distinction of a clone. The technology and methods of in vitro and cloning may be very similar, but that distinction is still an important one, especially considering the that tends to haunt cloned soldiers. Females have all of their eggs from birth. Even if they didn't have many women to start with, I'm sure their genetic engineering can ensure that enough females are born to replenish egg supplies.

Were others see failure I see an opportunity. Wasn't it an issue that bleeding them to death was impossible thanks to them being dug in deep in fortifications? Now they are out in the open...if they only could encircle them...
Right?! While reterating the mid section slowly and allowing the enemy to over extend their line A sudden Swift response to the flank of the enemy with armor and motorised infantry to Pierce through and encircle would be the best option. The Death Korps under the supreme high command of (the oh so wise) Lord Commander Zuehlke just reminds me of this quote from Alexander the Great: "I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep, I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion." Actually, thus far into the war itself, that quote describes both side rather well.
Every time I rewatch this series, it always pisses me off that the high commander whose name I don't know how to spell just decided the residents of this planet have forgotten that tower defense has been a facet of their society and religion for centuries.
I don't see why Vraksians didn't retreat only the western part of the 1st line... and kept the northern part of the 1st line and the "connecting" part of the 2nd line as the new front line... when I saw the map for the first time I taught that's the function of the "connecting" part... to make the attacker break the 1st line twice...
I thought the same thing. The only reason I could gather was that the death korps could concentrate on the southern-most line and if pireced they could destroy the second line like the first. And reatreatin from the northern most 1st line and second line at the same time (towards the citadel) would leave alot of forces hanging. (Not being able to get there in time)
@@gabrielmarquez9044 that makes sense... but in that case couldn't Vraks also launch an attack from the "connecting" 2nd line towards south and cut off a massive amount of Krieg soldiers... they did something similar on the left side of the battlefield anyway... as we just heard...
Depending on how well defended the northern front was and how fast the death korps could clear it all maintaining the connecting part of the second line would result in would be a lot of lost forces that vraks really couldn't afford
Alternatively, withdrawing from the first line of defenses in two waves. First withdraw from the western defenses, using the dogleg as protection. Then withdrawing from the northern defenses and the dogleg. That way you are only organizing half the rearguard actions at a time.
Only problem with that plan is that the Northern front has to hold on long enough for the western flank to collapse in to the secondary lines and then fall back. That plan wouldve probably cost vraks more time and man power than a general withdraw from the front all at once. Then again they mightve actually done this gw does seem to drop minor details like this alot
Actaully during the early stages of WW2 Poland would regularly deploy their mounted calvery forces againt advancing German armored colums and where often a lot more successful then you might think.
@@bioshocker3206 As much as I have heard they only used the Cavalry to get from A to B.The fight itself they did on foot.At least thats what I have read it could be different of Course.
@@marcuskurze9759 No you're indeed correct for the most part. Though they where also used in the occasional sweeping charge against German infantry and delaying actions against German mechanized formations, albeit armed with anti-tank rifles and other forms of light artillery instead of lance and sword.
@@bioshocker3206 and the incident everyone and their mother is referring to about Cavallry charging German tanks was actually a rather intresting situation. The Cavallry in question didn't know there were tanks, and they didn't know that the german unit they were attacking already had their machine guns set up. They charged in, the tanks appeared, and the machine guns started firing. So the commanding officer saw the better chances in charging the armoured column, since the german tanks back then weren't the best (and the attack on Poland was done with far too few tanks in general) and once they passed the first tank, it would be safe. The tanks wouldn't be able to bring their weaponry to bear on them anymore and they'd be out of the firing arc of the machine guns. And the alternative (charging the machine guns) had zero chances of success. Even if they managed to get through the fire of the mgs, they'd probably end up in some kind of trenches or at least dug outs ... means dead nonetheless. Especially when charging at full speed on horses. Also horses were still widely used all throughout WW2 by all sides. And even today we still have horses or donkeys in most modern armies. Germany's Gebirgsjäger have some of those, since there is a point in the mountains when you just cannot go on with even the best of tank, car or motorcycle.

3:01 - it never made any sense to me to run away fron the norhthern or nort-east part of the 1-st line since they were still secure due to the north-west part of the second line.
Originally, I agreed. However, it may be due that the trench lines connected there and there wasn’t a strong point at that junction with which to secure it to make it viable.
The way that it's written and how you tell the story, I forget it's fiction sometimes, so when they death riders sacrificed themselves I got really sad 😂

Nice guys the imperium. Plays on your level, never does anything to gain a additional advantage and repeatedly pulls their pants down so you can catch them.
There were probably a few but since the cardinal was in this one... Yeah. Any sort of enemy force that would've attacked the Kreig, would've been halted by the navy.
Vraks only had a population of a few million, it's not a regular hive or 'civilised' type of planet, it's an armoury-world - I'm guessing that pretty much all of the population were in the Citadel or it's environs.
Any outlying settlements would have either joined the cardnal and moved into the citadel, or bunkered down and waited for Imperial reinforcements. When those reinforcements arrived, the loyal setlements would immediately surrender to them, and hope that they were not executed anyways.
I've actually been wondering this for a while. It may be that I missed it in one of the previous episodes but... The tanks and fortifications shown in the background art are sometimes painted with the common symbols of the Ruinous Powers. Is this due to the art being sourced from depictions of other battles, or were the Vraksian forces actually open chaos worshipers? I mean, I know that they are traitors, but I thought they were traitors of the more mundane variety?
@@elysiankentarchy1531 Oooooooh... Siege installations, bunkers and WARPCRAFT! I'm guessing that is going to change the dynamics of strategy quite a lot...
i've been thinking the same thing and came to the conclusion as someone has already put it that the forces would be in a period of transition to chaos worship/imagery.
Despair all ye nations; for time draws apace When the rot of the cynic shall steal our good grace And our sweetest of dreams shall turn to lost hope Our pride and our arrogance; Our noose and our rope
I've begun fantasing about creating a renegade guard detachment for my Chaos space marines. I heared 8th edition is more stream lined. I quit 40k shortly after 6th edition came out. I had started playing bolt action instead. Bolt action rule system is even more streamlined than 8th edition. It's made by Rick Priestley and Alessio Cavatore the creators of LotR. Priestley being the father of 40k, necromunda. 1/48 WW2 has so much more lore and there's competition between the miniature manufacturers. The 40k scene is getting smaller and smaller.
Haven’t been in a Games Workshop in a couple of years but that’s too bad. I had so much fun playing 40k back in 7th edition. I read all the fluff in my codex. That’s sad if the community is dying, it’s hard to tell from the outside. I’m sure there are still the weekend warriors and people who get suckered in to buy a set and never do anything them
the part where you say "He was under attack from in front....the left, and the right" just had me thinking of that scene from the 2D clone wars cartoon, when that single clone starts doing Gun Fu against an army of droids
Rewatching this around the same time it came out 4 years ago. Weird to think I was 16, things are so very different but have fundamentally changed little at their core. Cheers, I really do need to get back into painting recasts one day. May just start with real model tanks and soldiers instead... a Tamiya kit as nice as they are seems dirt cheap in comparison to GW's soy
At 38:35 I think you were meant to say vrak was a fortress world, Krieg was a very good war world. The anti air and anti ships defences of kreig are long dead, just 500+ years of rust XD
Always wondered why the Imperium did not take advantage of the fact that the Vrakians did not have a airforce. The Imperium could have had air supremacy over the battlefield to support the Krieg advance.
Once again we see clearly why fragging officers is a thing. If Kreig was not Kreig the idiot general who told them that there could be no major assault could happen would be killed outright for his incompetence kreig is by far my favorite force in thr imperium but their fanatic following of orders is often their downfall

Okay, what's with these Death Korps officers having actual, legit, honest to Emperor names?

You'll fire your cannons, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand there's no turning back.
The Bugle sounds and the charge begins
But on this battlefield, no heretics win
The smell of acrid smoke and chembeast breath
As we plunge on into certain death.
The beast he sweats with glee, we break to run
The mighty roar of the Vraksian guns
And as we race towards the heathen wall
The screams of pain as my comrades fall.
We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground
And the Vraksians fire another round
We get so near, yet so far away
We won't live to fight another day.
We get so close near enough to fight
When a Vraksian gets me in his sights
He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow
A burst of rounds take the chembeast below.
And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear, I draw my parting groan

The 19th Regiment’s Death Riders are, so far, THE best example of Kriegers and their concept of sacrifice. They died, yes - and yet, it essentially allowed the retreat to complete. That is so worth every single one of their horses and lasguns.

@Comstar: Space AT&T are the death corps genetically identical? This may seem like semantics but that truly is the distinction of a clone. The technology and methods of in vitro and cloning may be very similar, but that distinction is still an important one, especially considering the that tends to haunt cloned soldiers.

Just from the title alone I can tell that the Death Korps are gonna be in for a ride.
As far a the death korps are concerned it's a rainy tuesday.
The men of Krieg Do not forgive, they do not forget. For they are they Emperor's faceless legion, should you turn your back on him you will not have his mercy, you will have his faceless legion come to dispense his wraith. They will not stop, they will die to take your line, and you will drown in their unceasing tide of fervor and sacrifice. Praise be to the faceless warriors of Krieg, may their deaths all be seen as glorious and noble ones!
After all the attacker obviously must have larger amount of assault vehicles than the defender....right?

The Death Korps under the supreme high command of (the oh so wise) Lord Commander Zuehlke just reminds me of this quote from Alexander the Great:
"I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep, I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion."
Actually, thus far into the war itself, that quote describes both side rather well.
Imperial command: Rebels can`t organize large scale armored assaults.
Vraksians: Hold my algae beer.
FINNALLY!!!!!!!!!! yo could you do the siege of TERRA next from the Heresy??? love it anyway
Well, do to the Siege of Terra it should before come out both the FW manuals and the BL novels.
Arch: "There's a difference between sacrifice and suicide"
Kriegsmen: "THERE IS???¡¡¡"
Every time I rewatch this series, it always pisses me off that the high commander whose name I don't know how to spell just decided the residents of this planet have forgotten that tower defense has been a facet of their society and religion for centuries.
38:37
Did you mean “Vraks itself is a fortress world”?
I'm just glad I'm not the only one who recognized that little slip of the tongue. Not that the other isn't also true
Only in 40K will Light Infrantry and Cavalry charge and attack Armored units.
Actaully during the early stages of WW2 Poland would regularly deploy their mounted calvery forces againt advancing German armored colums and where often a lot more successful then you might think.
I stand corrected. Plus I was just being facetious.

‘So the enemy has no air power? Guess we don’t need any either!’ said no sane military commander ever.

This is terrific work, Arch, and you've commissioned some great artwork to illustrate. Well done to the artists too.
Nice guys the imperium. Plays on your level, never does anything to gain a additional advantage and repeatedly pulls their pants down so you can catch them.
The artwork you commisened is simply amazing. Well done to the artist. It makes the story that much better.
I’m loving this series. The artwork is great, and Arch is really bringing his A-game to this.
Arch: How do u hide a mechanized force?
Cadians: CREEEEED!
One question tho,
What about the rest of vraks? Arent there other hives or something worth fighting?
the main objective was the Citadel. hence why it is the majority of the focus.
There were probably a few but since the cardinal was in this one... Yeah.
Any sort of enemy force that would've attacked the Kreig, would've been halted by the navy.
I was wondering the same thing.
Love the artwork of this series! Perfect visual to Arch's rich narration.
Can't praise these enough. Superb. Incredible amount of work
Haha, I like how you mentioned the orbital scouting thing that came up in the comments of the last video.

As one person put it: Arch is jumping the gun a little on what inevitably happens.
@@elysiankentarchy1531 Oooooooh... Siege installations, bunkers and WARPCRAFT!
