You have tang garden for the overlay during the component drop. Reupload coming soon.

That's what happens when you churn out review and review you start slacking on the editing process.

So I'm assuming no one from the Dice Tower reads these comments. It's been 3 days since you commented on this mistake. Haha Ride The Tang Garden it is then!

Since Derik left the editing is really subpar

My favorite very light train game with "shares" is Paris Connection. Great fun with all groups I've played with.

Looking for similar but different games to Ticket to Ride (TTR) with a train theme. In addition to various standalone TTR games and expansion maps, I recently got On The Underground (New York and Paris maps) and Free Ride. Got a few plays in of On The Underground and so far really like it. Haven’t unboxed Free Ride yet, but looking forward to it despite reviews of a visually flawed map. (There are workarounds.) Now I’m curious about this Iron Rails series and after watching reviews of all three games, I think Ride the Rails might be the more appealing one to me, because I’m more interested about building the networks rather than a capitalistic stock and money game.

When I looked up the designer on BGG I noticed that his accounts had been suspended. I then began to search why that might be and found some pretty troubling things; for me, mostly the harassment and doxxing of other BGG members. I’m just wondering if this has all been resolved and something that we’ve moved on from? Or, if it has been proven to be legitimate claims, should we, as a community that is so niche, be promoting his games? I’m also wondering if Tom has any opinion on this or more knowledge than my quick search gave me. Thanks.

Oh Heavens... hurry up Tom and make a press statement about this or else people will automatically assume you're complicit with the designer's actions. Ronnie started the clock...

Here is his explanation found on boardgamegeek.com/thread/2447324/harry-wu-pseudonym
      From the man himself: -
"I have been asked by a friend to say a little about my pseudonyms. OK, here goes…
For my first few train games I used my own name. Then, the Train Gamer’s Association, headed by Heather Barnhorst and bankrolled by Mayfair Games, namely Darwin Bromley, worked to suppress my games, going so far as to create a RESTRICTED LIST with my games on them. Simply put, my games could not be played at TGA Tournaments.
Well, then, I started using my Martin Wallace pseudonym, right up through Age of Steam. Martin was happy about it, rave reviews in SUMO helped. He wanted to be a famous game designer, I did not care for any of that ilk.
Then I did an 18xx variant for Rail Gamer magazine. I couldn’t use the Martin Wallace pseudonym, because everybody at the time knew that Martin never played 18xx. I discussed the problem with one of my mentor’s, Professor Henry Y. Chaung, the man who taught Switching Theory in Graduate School. Most of my games are Finite State Machines. Henry was a proud Taiwanese-American and Harry Wu came up as pseudonym. OK, Harry Wu it was.
After the Age of Steam fight with Martin, I used Harry Wu again for a certain style of game. For others, I used David V. H. Peters, a combination of 4 of my Winsome guys in Pittsburgh - Dave, Vince, Hudson, Peter. For there styles of games, I used Eddie Robbins, my dear brother-in-law, who passed away in ’92. Beni Seeman was my old girlfriend’s cat. Matthias Burtt is a name that brought up nothing on Google search. I could see who was talking about that game just by typing the name in on Google, it was a fun experiment. I have a bunch of other pseudonyms, but that is enough for now. You get the idea.
I have no need to see my name plastered all over the place. The only places where I care that my real name listed is on the US Patent & Trademark Office, the US Copyright Office, my passport, my driver’s license and the deed to my house. I have been using pseudonyms for decades now and will continue to use them for games and other creative works, like magazine articles. If someone has a problem with this, it is their problem, not mine.
      Have a nice day."

@@MassEffectFan113 Harassment and doxxing are serious issues, no need to get snarky. No one is accusing Tom Vasel of anything here. There was a simple question on whether he had any knowledge or thoughts on the matter. How we deal with toxic creators is an ongoing issue in all media, board games, film or or otherwise. Not a discussion I think will see much progress in a RUclips comment section, but I would honestly like Vasel's take on the subject, at least in an abstract sense (not regarding mr Bohrer specifically).
The So Very Wrong About Games podcast are very diligent in mentioning these kinds of issues in a good way, for example when they've reviewed Phil Eklund games. Good place to go for those who want that sort of thing :)

    • @RonnieLunn84
      @RonnieLunn84 4 года назад +5

hvazadi Thank you for that. I would not want my question misrepresented at all, I was not trying to make an accusation that Tom was somehow “complicit”. It’s simply a question for consideration and personally I’ve yet to experience it in board gaming until now. In other industries it certainly exists. And yes, the pseudonym piece is not the concern; actors use stage names, authors write under pseudonyms, no big deal. It’s the other accusations that shocked me.

@@RonnieLunn84 It's hard. There are some stories popping up, especially wrt women and members of marginalized groups attending cons or gatherings, but I haven't noticed many specific cases like this (though I am sure they exist), just a general culture that could use some change if we want to be more welcoming.
When it comes to buying/not buying this game, I don't think Bohrer gets more power or a platform he could use for anything because of this game selling well. I do think Capstone games will make more pretty train games if this sells though, so I will get it and swoon at Ian O'Toole's use of green and red :D Maybe the game is good as well, that would also be nice.

Does this map come with the mandatory huge discoloration line in the middle of the map you did with Irish Gauge?

It's really great with one annoyong negative for me. The more players you play with, the higher the chance someone, in the last round of the game, sees he cannot win, but his choice will determine the winner.
    That's not a good thing.

Nope. Burned once by Capstone Games with their first game and how the boards came out with the huge marking in the center and then wanted to charge us for replacements.
So I'll pass. First impressions are lasting impressions.
