I think this is one of the best games of the year and it's not for everyone. It does take a long time but man if you're a heavy euro gamer this is where it's at!
This game is the Chef’s Kiss for 2021. Multiple plays at four players and our group keeps going strong on this one. Easy Game of the Year. It hits all the right buttons. Brilliant design.
It's a good game and comes very close to a Lacerda, it just has less replayability than most Lacerdas because there's barely any change in setup. I hope that they think of an expansion that will create some randomization because the fundamentals of the game are so strong
5 player is tighter than 4. Was still just as good and didn't take much longer. I've played three times in three weeks. I absolutely love the Bonus Supply mini-game. Love it. Great game.
@@rbruba He mentions the bonus supply (the extra action, 3 money and trader) and how it can be used within the game. Tom also mentioned he wasn't necessarily a fan of it, and the rules weren't very clear how to use them.
@@evancheah8244 Obviously, but it needed an adjective, like "specific". It was fine, Tom doesn't read from a script. And then later he says it again...
"I almost never play a big euro game of five..it takes too long..." To say that when playing a game like Planet Steam, for example, is a shame. Honestly, it doesn't make sense. Some games run well on 4, but some leave something to be desired, due to some board adjustments, mechanics, etc. In the case of Coffee Traders, I believe that they earn a lot in 5, despite the space and time a little longer and why is that? Because of the area control, because of the dispute to sell coffee to coffee bars and also for the harvest. It becomes more competitive, more adjusted and, consequently, more fun. I would not fail to include a 5th player to "save" about 30 or 40 minutes of play. It would be a waste to set up the table with this game and fail to make the most of it.
This is an ultra heavy game that does not play well at 2 player count (so to play with wife at home)... Call it niche... I simply cannot see myself finding an opportunity to play this...
I disagree, I think the bot used for the two player version is not only easy to use, but really allows you to plan around it. I think its prolly best at 3 or 4, but I absolutely enjoyed it at 2. the bot is for sure needed tho, we played it without the bot to learn, and its much better on all fronts with Andre. I also wouldn't say "ultra" heavy, it is complex and a big game but its not as mind crushing a lot of other games I've played. Once you learn the rules, you're pretty good from there, as opposed to something like a Lecerda where, for me, every turn is like learning a new game. I also find it more intuitive than Brass. I will say i wouldn't buy it for just two tho, it's just not worth the price for all the extra stuff you wouldn't use.
$95 for a game that does nothing innovative and appears to just be a mish mash of scoring mechanisms by borrowing a little of this and a little of that from superior games. Hard pass.
Tom giving this really heavy game a Seal of Approval? This must be the GotY!
Love that Tom calls it the Arabic track. He is keeping track of those Arabs lol.
lol A--ra--bi--ca
I was like “wait does he mean Arabica?” And the more he said it the more I was like “he HAS to mean Arabica” lol
Those beans be going to the masjid 😲
This is an east GOTY contender for me. A proper deep Euro with solid player interraction.

The player boards, the chunky wood pieces, order fulfillment, and fiddly bits gives me a strong Yokohama (but amped up a bit) vibe.

This looks like a Lacerda game but without all of the "rub your head and pat your tummy to take a left" elements.

"Bonus supply mini-game" - is this highlighted in the video?

Thanks Tom this is what I needed to know!
You should retry Brass, Tom. It's really something.
"this game takes place over 3 years..."
1970 - 1980
🤔
I think it means 1970,1975,1980 in the game 3 specific years
@@evancheah8244 Obviously, but it needed an adjective, like "specific". It was fine, Tom doesn't read from a script. And then later he says it again...
I love how Tom desperately avoided to actually mention civet shit 😂
Reminds me I haven’t had coffee yet today
Catastrophe!!!
Similar to Pret a Porter - fashion theme instead of coffee
I love that the players boards are called "general ledgers" 😆 They certainly feel like that
If Tom was, meh over Brass, and rates this one higher, it must be a masterpiece because there is nothing meh about Brass.
The theme is meh to me, lol
I had fun at 5 player counts. Hard to make quick decisions because of the chain effect.
I agree. In 5 players, you can get the most out of this game. It doesn't make sense what Tom said, about playing 4 to save time.
Why are so many games lately having a HUGE footprint on the table?
Big capstone games eurogames are.
@@12345678abracadabra, Eurogames didn't use to require obtaining a building permit to play them.

Juan Valdez , the game!
And now he will never drink civet coffee. I laughed. I also absolutely get that... I hear it's overrated anyway.

Would give this a try on the table but it does sound like it's trying to do too much at once. I do like coffee though....
Aaah, a bit of a Terra Mystica crosses with Viticulture (with Tuscany) mashup?
Doesn't feel like it. Action selection and contract fulfillment are very common elements

I mean...get in line? Production quality is really what makes it that.
