ii am under the 90,000 amount the 4 dentists here i phoned 2 of them so far i would still have to pay to get dentures. is what the nurse said..not the whole amount.. but i will have to pay a certain amount.. so it's not free for everyone under 90.000 or 70,000
Thanks for watching. Yes, the dentists do not need to have their prices match the amount covered by the government exactly. There will be cases where the dentists will charge more than the covered amount.
I live in BC and I'm a single 72 year old pensioner with an annual income of $46000. Through my work pension, MPP deduct about $26 monthly for dental insurance which covers 70% of my basic coverage which constitute scaling, polishing, cavity fixing. If Federal Government pays 100% for above coverages for who's income is way higher than mine, I feel we are left behind. Do you think in this case I should apply TOO?
Hi Anna. If you think your income will not increase it sounds like you would be better off with the government coverage vs the private coverage. But, if you have private coverage you won’t be eligible for the government plan. You may be able to cancel your coverage through your pension plan but since the government program is so new, I would feel nervous about cancelling your private coverage right away. If you have major dental needs that are not covered by your private plan but will be covered by the new government plan, that might tip me over the edge to cancel and go with the government plan. But if not I would wait for a bit, talk to your dentist to see how their price chart will interact with the new government coverage, and make the decision carefully.
Sorry but because you already have a dental benefit plan you can't get this government coverage. And if your dentist doesn't sign up for the plan you can't get it also. You'd have to change dentists to one that is signed up for it. Not many will.
