Had to come back to this video and give credit where it's due, I was fishing my LC for months with short casts no bites and after watching this video went back out and tried it this way and caught my biggest perch first cast. Thank you for the tips Benjie 🤙
Thank you for such an encouraging comment. My hope for making these kinds of videos is to be helpful. Even if I can help one person improve their game a little, that is super rewarding for me. Wishing you many more PB's and just continued success out there. Tight lines!
I like to shake the LC while it is hanging, prior to casting. The idea is to ensure the ball weights are at their lowest point in the lure. This makes the lure fly like a rocket vs a helicopter. Great video BK, hoping to meet up again soon. You got me into LCs. I now have enough to decorate a Christmas tree. I still haven’t lost the pink tiger you sent me years ago.
Awesome Peter, really appreciate your support over these past few years. Wish I would've remembered to include that awesome tip, definitely helps when it starts helicoptering. Tight lines!
So this didn’t necessarily help me cast, but it helped my head space immensely. I have been casting thinking I suck cause it isn’t going far enough. And then you stated the distance… I hit that often if not every time. Thanks man.
Thanks Mike! There's no hard rule with rod length, you can probably go as short as 7' and be just fine. Obviously you'll miss out on some distance, but where we fish, distance (while helpful), isn't the end all be all.
I hope it might be helpful Mason! And also, it's just a matter of a little repetition and practice. Hope you're well, let's see if we can get a session in this Summer sometime! Please keep in touch!
Hi Ron, anywhere from one arms length to 2 arms length. As long as the connection doesn’t hit the spool, I’m good. Been running 20 lb braid and no issues with wind knots. Tight lines 🙏
Very helpful. I like bombing lures. I can never bomb the luckycrafts. I can get the shimano fladhboost further but honestly, i like bombing 1-2oz cheaper lures.
8' is perfectly fine! Personally, I don't emphasize rod length for the SoCal fishery. You do gain some distance with longer rods obviously but personally I don't find that to be the most important thing. As long as the line and lure fits the LC110, you're good to go. Tight lines!
Thanks for the quick response I’m looking for a medium weight rig for Nicaragua/ Costa Rica beach fishing I already have a light set up and a heavy one this one might be perfect
Hi Bob! Yes, everyone has their own style but I do believe some of the principals remain the same for most. The reel is Okuma ITX CB 3k..actually my favorite of the 3 Okuma reels I've been testing.
Do you find that you lose distance when casting a rod with a longer butt section? With certain surf rods, I feel like its way to long and it hinders my cast
I haven't found that to be the case with this rod but that's a sheerly anecdotal statement. I initially didn't like the longer butt myself but I got used to it after a couple sessions. If I had the choice, I'd go with the shorter butt, but it's a non-issue for me.
I’m seeing some braid tomleader knot comments here, but I just upgraded to braid and have been tying directly to my LC using the Power Clip and a loop knot. Should I be adding mono/flouro? Thanks for the casting video. I just noticed you try to land it behind the incoming wave, which I’m going to spend time mastering this summer. One more question: cherry berry or metallic sardine? Thanks for your videos, BK!
Great questions - straight braid is very viable. However, one weakness of braid is hard structure so if you're fishing reefs or beaches with a lot of rocks, braid will slice through very easily. I use fluoro for the abrasion resistance only. Also, just a possible suggestion to consider - If you're using a clip, you can remove the split ring that comes stock on LC's...it would still be fine but not entirely necessary to be clip on ring on nose. Same goes for loop knot onto clip as I believe the clip would still help provide the action you'd be gaining with the loop knot. Thank you for the comment, Tight lines!
The Rockaway SP 10' M+ definitely gets more distance. Surprisingly, I find it more sensitive as well. Was not expecting that. Not surprisingly, it has much much better pulling power. I'd say the TRL has better overall handling and has a slicker, more finesse feel....still a great rod for sure, but also double the price of the Rockaway.
@@BenjieKimFishing Wow that’s really interesting. I was highly considering buying the Phenix one day because of how slick and finesse its appearance is. But my friend has the Okuma but as a Medium Heavy for striped bass and I was so impressed by its casting. Thanks for the reply.
I side arm cast my jerkbaits ! That said, where I fish ( Hermosa Beach ) a long cast isnt unnecessary as the bottom contour drops quickly from shallow to deep therefore the fish are close in during high and low tide. I catch 90% of my fish ( perch, corbina, croaker, halibut, and the occasional striper ) between 5-15 yards from shore 🏄🏼♂️🎣🤙🏻
I've fished with guys who side arm and they do great...Great example of everyone having their own style. And great example also of our SoCal fishery. Absolutely agree with you from personal experience that distance is not as important as nearshore structure. Just saw some comments from a few days ago from you, thanks so much for the positive vibes and the sub, really appreciate it. Tight lines!
Have yet to catch a legal halibut in the surf but the few I’ve caught have all bit closer than I expected. Same with the perch. Yalls surf fishing stoke is infectious, truly. Stay blessed
Just bought my 1st LC "Cherry Berry" today. Cant wait to hit the surf!

finally.. Getting guidance on casting a LC
Everyone has their own style, hopefully what works for me can be helpful for others as they refine what works for them. Hope you're well Rolando.

Thanks for the footage sir 🤙😎
Much appreciated Ralph, thank you always!
Can I add a weight since my line might be too heavy for 1/2 oz?
Right on.! Been waiting for this LC casting tip. What’s the minimum rod length you would try with a LC.?
Thanks Mike! There's no hard rule with rod length, you can probably go as short as 7' and be just fine. Obviously you'll miss out on some distance, but where we fish, distance (while helpful), isn't the end all be all.

How long is you flouro leader? What size braid? Any problem with wind knots?
Hi Ron, anywhere from one arms length to 2 arms length. As long as the connection doesn’t hit the spool, I’m good. Been running 20 lb braid and no issues with wind knots. Tight lines 🙏
@@BenjieKimFishing Then your casting finger is gripping braid and not flouro?

Thank you for the video on how to cast a FM110. What’s your take on a 8’ rod to fish the FM110 over a 9’ rod

Where do you recommend surf fishing for legal halibut in san diego?
can you recommend an Okuma rod for the Lucky craft. thank you love your videos
Good video… What rod reel and line are you using weight length lb.?
Rod - Okuma Rockaway SP 10' M+
Reel - Okuma ITX CB 3000
15 pound braid (I believe j-braid or power pro...) with 17 pound Opsin fluoro w/ RP connection
Thanks for the quick response I’m looking for a medium weight rig for Nicaragua/ Costa Rica beach fishing I already have a light set up and a heavy one this one might be perfect
How many lbs test is your flouro leader???
Right now I’m running 17 pound opsin fluorocarbon.
Appreciate the tutorial funny how everyone does it differently but the same. Which reel are you using? Is it stock?
Hi Bob! Yes, everyone has their own style but I do believe some of the principals remain the same for most.

Can you use 35lb braided line
I totally missed this one 😅
Any reason for switching to okuma? I know you were using Phenix for a good while.
What is the best beach for halibut in San deigo
How does the Okuma compare tot he Phenix for Lucky Craft casting?

if it's a reef area sometimes you do want that distance to cover more water, if it's open sandy beach distance doesn't matter
Thanks for sharing your experience and expertise!
no, thank you for helping all of us become better at fishing, you're a true master
Now you need a parody “This is the happy Gilmore cast”
lol I just envisioned that in my head! Hope you're well Werner, so stoked to have shared the rail with ya last time. Can't wait for the next one!
Is it possible to be successful using a baitcaster?

Wait. Where's the part where you lose your lure and have to tie a new one? 😅
haha, that can be a separate video lol
Hwaiting!!

Hell yeah 4:20
braid to mono to lure?
braid to fluoro to lure. But mono is viable as well. Tight lines!
@@BenjieKimFishing How long is your fluorocarbon leader and does the knot go through the guides?
I just use a drone 😂
hahaha, can't beat that!
Just use a SP minnow
The way I’ve been casting it is to launch it out into the water, reel in and tie on a new one because my braid to leader knot fails 🫣 haha
hahahaha love it Marco. Most of us have had that happen....or at least it has happened to me....more than once lol. Tight lines brother.
