This scene isn't here but when Marge tells Tom he isn't invited to ski at Cortino, he's understandably crushed but Marge explained everyone pays their own way and everyone knows how to Ski, etc. That should have been a Red Flag for Tom to go but he doesn't. It was also Marge's understated way of saying to Tom, "You've Overstayed Your Welcome". Also with the "Tommy" line, it may have evoked memories of the Book version where Tom and his friends are talking and one of them named Vic Simmons says "Oh For C-s Sake Tommie Just Shut Up!"

PSH is such a talent here (and everywhere else too) because Freddie is a pretentious, smug, elitist, bully asshole... and yet he very quickly sees through Tom’s mask. So you can’t say he’s stupid. The movie makes you resent Dickie and his friends like Tom does, but also gets you to empathize with them because even they’re not sociopathic murderers like Tom

I'm sorry but if I were Tom Ripley, I'd feel so out of place with these Fabulously Dressed Folks who looked like they were straight out of GQ, and here I am with my Thriftshop Wardrobe. Even there Tom knew he didn't "Fit In" kind of like how Michael Novotny on Queer As Folk (US), had Dinner with the Friends of his Boyfriend David, they were Professors, and one Javier was the "Kept Boy Toy" of one of the other Guests. The Food he ate, he wouldn't be able to afford on his salary and when the Folks talked about where they've been it's kind of hard for Michael to relate.

Dickie was nobody's fool. He knew that Tom had two of nothing. It kind of reminds me of The Paper Chase when Kevin Brooks was confronted about his Outline was coming along. He said it was coming along but his head was down. He was lying and Bell who was passionate about Property knew Kevin was "lying". Also when Freddie called Tom "Tommy" it may have reminded him of his Friend Vic Simmons who referred to him as "Tommie" who embarassed him in front of their Gang.

Well some people who have a lot of money, and indulge on the good life are bound to turn out like Freddie. But you have to hand it to him, he was good at putting the pieces together real quick with Tom robbing Dickie of his life. He figured it out sooner than Dickies fiancé did.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was absolutely amazing in this role. Even though he had little screen time, he left a huge impression on the audience with his boorish personality and nasally voice.
Unfortunately, Eliot Sumner was the complete opposite to this in the Netflix Ripley series. They made Freddie a completely forgettable character. More importantly, we never see a real bond between Freddie and Dickie, so Freddie’s obsession with finding Dickie comes across as forced for the plot. Just one of many ways that the series is vastly inferior to the film.

I don’t buy him as a playboy at all - not with women anyway. Even the word “effeminate” doesn’t do him justice…the hip swivel, limp wrists, crossed legs, vocal fry, penchant for gossip, etc. He’d make any woman feel like a man in comparison to him.

Baffling how many people are praising Freddie. He didn't know Tom would kill Dickie when they first met, and in the last encounter, he didn't know he had killed him; he thought Dickie was still in Rome. He was a rude asshole to everybody, so elaborating on why Tom deserved it is irrelevant, and he wasn't a dick to Tom because he "could see through him" or anything like that. He was a dick to Tom right from he start because he knew he wasn't an aristocrat, meaning he would spit in your face, too.

Tried to emulate the lifestyle ever since; and if I do say I've exceeded it, and not died or killed anyone since.
