    Unfortunately yesterday - August 14th 2022 - this beautiful bird flew it's final flight... 😥 During the air show in Cheb, while performing flybys for the audience, the plane crashed in a nearby field, killing its pilot - an experienced 58 years old Petr Pačes (also seen in this video).
    This was a very sad and heartbreaking moment to witness and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Petr, we wish you godspeed in heaven and Rest in Peace! 🙏

    Fabulous.
    Hurricane pilots shot down more bombers than the Spitfire, though this is also due to the Spitfire being tasked with taking on the fighters.
    Such an important aircraft and overlooked for all the wrong reasons. Obviously, it's an older construction method but more able to take damage and easier to repair (and manufacture).
    Without the pilots wouldn't have been much use. We were lucky to have RAF, Polish, Czech, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South Africa pilots, even the odd American (before they declared war). Lets also not forget the Indian and Carribean pilots and the many other nationalities that I have forgotten to mention. All were vital.

      True to a point but bombers were not easy to shoot down as they just soaked up bullets like a sponge. Also quite a few fighters fell at the hands of Hurricanes. Make them even greater in my opinion.

      The hurricanes were quite poor planes in reality. They succeeded through numbers and radar assisted tactics. Another case where history is written by the victor.

    • @honymonster30
      @honymonster30 2 года назад +1

      @@smokeonthewater5287 I think you should read the biographies of pilots such as Robert Stanford Tuck and Douglas Bader pilots that flew both Hurricanes and Spitfires. I also think you'll find that although radar was very useful at the time of the Battle of Britain it was in its infancy unlike today's radars back then they could be inaccurate. Many historians and documentary makers miss out on the incredibly vital role that the Royal Observer Corp played in giving accurate counts and courses of enemy aircraft.
      I really think you should put in a bit of time on research before making what is a very inaccurate statement.

    I have a question about the Hurricane Mk IV. It could have four 20 mm cannon in the wing or two 40 mm cannon beneath the wing. In the 40 mm cannon version, what happened to the 20 mm cannon? Were the 20 mm and 40 mm cannon an either/or option: could you have 20 mm cannon or 40 mm cannon but not both? And if that is correct and you had 40 mm cannon under the wing, what armament (if any) was in the wing? Some WW II fighter buff likely knows the answer.

    • @lazarcvjetkovic5509
      @lazarcvjetkovic5509 7 месяцев назад

      I think it's an 'either' option.
      So you can have 20s or 40s but not both. But alongside the 40s they also had bomb/s.
      It all depended on the role. 40s and bombs were mostly anti-tank role.
      Those with 20s also had machineguns and were all-purpose fighters. But as I recall the Hurri never really was an anti-aircraft fighter, more of a CAS role (close air support).
