This is by far the best explanation of a toeside predrift ever. Watching this over and over again is how I learnt the correct technique. I wish the loaded crew would start doing more of them again.
cool explanation :) probably first video where weight ratio is somewhat explained, i get it it is very individual thing but still for me gave much more clear idea how and when. Thanks
Awesome. It reminds me of a lesson I learned years ago flying a full-on military simulator of an F-111. You don't yank the controls - that'll just throw you into a spin. You have to use finesse - just a enough control force to get the job done. Not only is he teaching the correct technique, he's teaching you not to over-control the board and that's what makes his boarding so graceful. That's a fine point that's important in almost every activity I've ever tried.
wear a helmet guys had a really bad high side practising this and landed flat on my head. thank god i was wearing a helmet. nothing happened, tried again and nailed one
@thetrueblahman I've found that it's easier to stay on top of your board and control the hookup when grabbing rail. But that's just me. I also like doing 1-handers, but I'll always grab rail if I'm racing or trying to be as precise as possible. - Kyle
awesome in depth video. being able to do this, having learned it over a year ago it's crazy. I don't think about releasing pressure, my position anymore. It's amazing to think I do all of this instinctively now.
Love those instructive videos. Obviously Kyle is not just a madman but has put a lot of thought in his art. Wish we had quiet roads to practice, our back-yard is in the Alps, steep and full of traffic.
@Downhill644 When you set up for the slide, get your toes on or over the rail and concentrate on keeping that foot planted firmly on the griptape throughout the drift. Remember that all the action comes from your back foot, so just keep your front foot locked onto the grip. Grabbing rail will probably help stabilize the front of your board, as well; if you grab close to your heel, your hand can help prevent your foot from migrating.
Hey, Kyle, you create very clear and exemplified tutorial every time!!!! Your previous front-side-powerside tutorial is also given great good and bad (which I should not do) examples. And Adam did great job on taking and editing those!!! Thank you! p.s. Sorry for the bud ;) @6:45 ha-ha! lol
This is awesome advice. Kyle, thanks for taking the time to show all this info! You are my hero. I need all the help i can get, i'm having a hard time learning to do a PROPER predrift. Thanks again man.
@HillsHelp Make sure to have your feet set up so that your weight is on your uphill wheels (on your toeside rail). When you dig in with your heels, your downhill wheels will lock up, and that's what causes a high-side.
I believe you solved my problem with the control of coming back to ride on. I always overturned cause I was leaning to far away. I'll try to think of your advise next time! Best, Biggi from Luxembourg / Europe! :D
@foreheadiumal Just enough to allow you to drift easily without high-siding. The less weight you put on your hand, the more weight there will be on the wheels, allowing them to burn off more speed and hook up more easily when you're done with the predrift.
i did everything you said and i always high side. i still havnt managed to stay on my board even with those new sliding wheels that work way better than what was apparently carving wheels
Awesome tutorial, Kyle! Im having a bit of trouble with keeping my shoulders square with the apex, probably because im not grabbing rail though. I'll try grabbing rail next time i try to do a predrift.
I want kyle chin to follow me around everywhere I do any kind of sliding or DH and walk me through everything and teach me all the things I'm not doing right
Zacx It doesn't matter if you're goofy or regular lmao. Heelsides goofy are the same as heelsides regular, but switched around. Say theres a corner to your left and you are goofy.. That would be a toeside predrift, while regular ( im regular ) it yould be heelside. Same feels and all.
holy shit i thought i was the only one! i honestly hate heelsides, they feel so awkward. i've been trying to get sit downs but i feel so awkward that i don't think i'll ever get it, but whenever i do toesides, (which are known to be much more difficult) i find them much easier.
This is awesome! Just what i need! Is there something similar for the heelside slide? If not, please make a trick tip for the heelside predrift/slide as well! For me, the heelside is a lot more difficult....
alright im hoping for a quick response as im actually in a race tomorrow that requires a toeside predrift. When im practicing at full speed, i can pull them off confidently and cleanly, but i have trouble bringing that back in without shedding too much speed. so what i mean is that i always hold the slide for too long and enter the corner with next to no speed at all. Thanks a lot.
@HExtab12 they drill a new set of holes to mount the back truck on :) since the board has had its back chopped off some of the holes (or all the holes) are gone
just try to let the pressure off ur back foot and it should tuck back in...i have trouble with em alot too...but i learned it a diffrent way then he taught..i can do em with my foot on the center of the board instead of the side rail and i dont grab my board...idk if thats still a predrift but it gets me around fast corners...lol
Wonderful tutorial! Full of info, the editing of the vid is made so you see an example after every piece of info, the sound is clear (unlike most longboard tutorials on RUclips), and you didn't forget safety :D Thanks! Added to favorites :) You have more tutorials that you can like me here maybe? Like not just downhill stuff, but Cruising tricks and curving tricks too? ^_^
awesome advice man thank you Ihave got my toeside crisp but ive always had an issue with keeping my weight up , I just fall my wrist cant hold me up (226lbs).
its a little bit harder tho..but yes you can...if you want to slide try the original freeride with bear 852's and 86a stims....my setup is a landyachtz switch 41,bear 852's, and abec 11 freerides...they are both awsome
Very helpful! I have a hill right next to my house but the corner is flat (no longer downhill) and it feels harder to slide around. Is that generally true? Or is it just me
@yeeeeahbuddyy Any editing program can go slow mo you want a camera that shoots above 60fps for basic slow mo. A more expensive program is twixtor which is a plugin for video editing software such as "Adobe After effects" and "Sony Vegas Pro"
What's longboard drifting? From watching this video, it seems like it's basically when you kick out your back wheels to help you go through corners. Is that basically what it is?
"practice to stay on top of the board" during predrift.. that is the advice I was looking for. It sounds logical but is not. I think that learning this technique staying on top of the board it's the best way to improve the ride. Being one single thing with the board.
that is how im normally dressed when i go longboarding. bball shorts, tshirt and puck gloves. however also similar to you i have quite a bit of road rash. i know im going to start wearing pads.
I'm having trouble with this, I'm sliding for too long. I used to be able to do them when I had a longer symetical board but now I switched to a grease hammer. Any tips on controlling the slide more
got a question...i got alot of big hills...and cars and i am always scared to go on them cause i cant figure out how to stop at the end!!!so i end up jump from my board and then running after it :)
This advice is actually really helpful since it is actually clear and simple, and the my tell you the easiest way to do it

This guy does the best instructional videos. Really breaks it down and helps you visualize.
cool explanation :) probably first video where weight ratio is somewhat explained, i get it it is very individual thing but still for me gave much more clear idea how and when. Thanks
I love you Kyle Chin, I love you with the passion of a thousand burning suns.
Some of the foot placement and weight distribution tips were extremely helpful thanks

wish i had a hill like that
Great video! thanks for the clear explanation.

awesome in depth video. being able to do this, having learned it over a year ago it's crazy. I don't think about releasing pressure, my position anymore. It's amazing to think I do all of this instinctively now.
Excellent, thorough explanation of the body mechanics involved. I keep coming back to this for fine-tuning. Keep up the good work.
Love those instructive videos. Obviously Kyle is not just a madman but has put a lot of thought in his art. Wish we had quiet roads to practice, our back-yard is in the Alps, steep and full of traffic.
This Is Probably The Best Explained Tip Ive Ever Watched
This is really useful. Thanks man.
@mailadress222 Check out "Pre Active Pre Drifter" for help on heelside predrifts!

this is what i lookin for! thanks bro.
Around 6:00 you can hear Adam say "how much" when kyle is talking about weight distribution haha
I love your videos, keep it up!
You guys should do a heelside predrift it's so easy to understand and points out all the points that we need to know!!
They do! Check the FAQ's on the loaded website!
Love this instructor.
You wanna sucky sucky? ;)
@@thedarknight5714 shut the fuck up
Adam colton is a pretty good cameraman! Very steady. Great vid. Gonna go out and try it and probably fall a lot.
This is awesome advice. Kyle, thanks for taking the time to show all this info! You are my hero. I need all the help i can get, i'm having a hard time learning to do a PROPER predrift. Thanks again man.
Adam Colton filmed this!?! That's awesome!
I love these Tricktips on mountains, everything is so quite and this camera is awesome too! :D
@HillsHelp Make sure to have your feet set up so that your weight is on your uphill wheels (on your toeside rail). When you dig in with your heels, your downhill wheels will lock up, and that's what causes a high-side.
Toes side drift was the first slide I learned. Good stuff!
I learned that if I ever need to learn something new, I should probably look for a vid with Kyle Chin in it.
kyles explanations are simply the best :)
finally learned it. took me 3hrs straight. guess Im a fast learner XD feels so good when you pull it out just right😂😆
Great job buddy! These can be a bit scary for people to learn, but props for the record time!
i did everything you said and i always high side. i still havnt managed to stay on my board even with those new sliding wheels that work way better than what was apparently carving wheels
Captain Spook
Make sure u go fast enough if u think ur wheels grip up early... if not then try not putting as much weight on the back foot.
Great video. I am slowly becoming more of an agreesive downhill rider and I really needed to get this slide down.
finnally tried these today after finding a steep toeside corner. took me like 8 tries with several highsides and wash outs but i finnally got it!!
Thank you so much. its seems like I can't find anything on toeside predrifts. So this was extremely helpful.
Hey Kyle & Adam, thanks for putting these vids up, its the only way I'm learning :)
Kyle Chin, you're my hero!
Gotta Love Highsiders... Happened to me once on new 4prezzes and grippy tarmac. That is the most unpredictable hookup ever.
Awesome tutorial, Kyle! Im having a bit of trouble with keeping my shoulders square with the apex, probably because im not grabbing rail though. I'll try grabbing rail next time i try to do a predrift.
love how detailed the explanation is, very helpful thanks!
Please make more videos, this was perfectly explained. Thanks.
@nathanthe5 The deck has been chopped (cut down) and redrilled to have a 28" wheelbase.
kyle. you are a serious guru. i feel like i'm watching a master jedi. *goes and practice*
@battistellaschmitt a helmet is a piece of plastic with fom padding which fits over your head accordingly to size to pretect your head from injuries.
Great video, simple and explained very well.
Thanks for the video
I want kyle chin to follow me around everywhere I do any kind of sliding or DH and walk me through everything and teach me all the things I'm not doing right
I feel like I'm the only longboarder who is more comfortable with toe-side slides (standups, glove down, pre-drifts, etc) than heel-side slides.
+Damon Watson I'm the same. It took me a day to learn a toe-side and, like a month to get comfortable with a heel-side
Same, I just love the feel of toesides but heelsides are so uncomfortable.
You must be a goofy cause i also feel the same.. Lol

This is such a thorough guide i love it!
@dchin490 It's a Comet Voodoo Original if you want to look online for it. He made the wheel base smaller on his.
Awesome technical advice! Really well broken down! Cheers
Thsnx bro great explanation great terminology visuals timing you hooked me up thank you so much bro your the shit
Great video... it would be great if you could do a video dedicated to heelside predrifts. Pre-active is not bad, but this is much better.
Cheers.

Oh god that was creepy. I thought someone was behind me whispering into my ear.
WHOA! I HAVE BEEN WEARING THOSE EXACT SAME SHOES FOR LIKE 4 OR 5 YEARS!
Kyle Chin is way too cool. He makes me proud to be a Bruin.
Great tips guys very informative! looking forward for more!
U guys are awesome! Thx for revealing ur secrets to the rest of us, I know I appreciate it. What r u boys shooting with? Canon 7D?
alright im hoping for a quick response as im actually in a race tomorrow that requires a toeside predrift.

so what i mean is that i always hold the slide for too long and enter the corner with next to no speed at all.

aaah adam and kyle THANK YOU this helped soooo much
yaaay! thank you kyle! once again, you and adam are my heros.
@HExtab12 they drill a new set of holes to mount the back truck on :) since the board has had its back chopped off some of the holes (or all the holes) are gone

Hey Kyle...huge fan, today i messed my shit up by falling backwards over the board. This vid explains heaps, im just not sure how much speed i need.
Very good video, thanks for taking the time!!
Wonderful tutorial! Full of info, the editing of the vid is made so you see an example after every piece of info, the sound is clear (unlike most longboard tutorials on RUclips), and you didn't forget safety :D

Just learned how to do these, aww yeah! Its kinda weird to kick it out at first, but practice makes perfect.
@MrSaveatreerideareed
I pressed 8, Kyle showed me a secret trick.
Kyle Chin is a Boss.
@dutchmenred
To grab rail is to grab the side of your bord, like Kyle does with his left hand when he slides.
kyle chine, you seen like a really nice guy, and you have awesome sliding gloves.
awesome vid, thanks kyle and adam
its a little bit harder tho..but yes you can...if you want to slide try the original freeride with bear 852's and 86a stims....my setup is a landyachtz switch 41,bear 852's, and abec 11 freerides...they are both awsome
This video by Kyle really helped me hone my drift...thanks guys from loaded! :0)
back when kyle looked like puberty itself
@loadedlongboardlover I think its the same spot where "Let Go" was filmed, too.
Very helpful! I have a hill right next to my house but the corner is flat (no longer downhill) and it feels harder to slide around. Is that generally true? Or is it just me
what kind of hardware is kyle rocking on his board? looks reall nice for topmoubnts
Hi dude, very good your tip. Which wheel and bushings are you using for this slide?
thank you Kyle Chin
This is the only video of Kyle Chin that I can take him seriously in, cause he has long hair in all the others..
thanks man this was really helpful
This is too epic! I really want to learn how to do this but I'm not ready! xD

the trucks on that board are so dope
that is how im normally dressed when i go longboarding. bball shorts, tshirt and puck gloves. however also similar to you i have quite a bit of road rash. i know im going to start wearing pads.
Do you have to have your hand on the back of the board or can you just have it behind you for balance?
I love that Kyle sounds like an approaching airplane in the beginning of the vid.
@RoundupLongboarding i am pretty sure they are using a rebel t2i
@VorpalBob Dude, the Loaded boards at the moment aren't made for speed. Their speed board is being proto-typed.
I don't think I have seen one but you guys should make a 360 slide tut. heelside 180 to switch toeside and vv.
I'm having trouble with this, I'm sliding for too long. I used to be able to do them when I had a longer symetical board but now I switched to a grease hammer. Any tips on controlling the slide more
Gracias 😎 ahora ya se tirar el toeside check
got a question...i got alot of big hills...and cars and i am always scared to go on them cause i cant figure out how to stop at the end!!!so i end up jump from my board and then running after it :)
