    From what I observed the biggest difference between Hasbro and those that came before it is the setup. Hasbro morphing sequences tend to emphasize the products being sold, which is why there tends to be a long preamble to the actual sequence in which the toy products are being shown directly to the screen.
    Granted, Power Rangers has always been a thinly veiled toy commercial, but the Hasbro morphs are more blatant. Earlier morphs were meant to be portrayed as snappy and fast, with the actual sequences physically representing the sequence, which is why there are fewer steps. Even though the sequence itself took several seconds the actual transformation was a split second. Hasbro morphs leave you wondering why the Rangers weren't destroyed during the setup.
    Also, a quick defending point for Dino Fury: they emphasize the morphin grid more than the dinosaur or knight themes, which is why they had the constellations in the background to show that they are literally bathing in the grid itself to transform.

    • @KingZoru_VT
      @KingZoru_VT  10 месяцев назад +11

      That’s fair- I’ve seen several comments also pointing out the toy aspect. HOWEVER, it’s amusing to think that they wanted to promote their toys when their keys were so different from onscreen, and honestly just missed the bar in quality IMO.
      I’ve also had several folks point out the grid too, which makes sense! It just still feels a little generic because technically you could apply that morph to any season.

    Power Rangers has kind of sucked at theming since Megaforce
    Disregarding the Angels of Goseiger and Pirates of Gokaiger, instead being MMPR again
    Dino charge ignored the dance part (not too big a deal, but that's why Kyoryouger felt innovative)
    Ninja steel is only Ninja in name
    Beast Morphers is an exception imo because it was government based, but thr morphing sequence ignored what made go busters cool
    And Dino Fury is more about Aliens than Knights

    Dino fury morph is too literal. Why are they describing every step while morphing? It takes too long and drags. Its like they are insulting the audience thinking kids are dumb,
    What happened to morphs that uses imagination? “Lets rock it!”

    I actually got annoyed by how impractically long it took to initiate the morph in Dino Fury. It's like twice as long as most other ranger teams. In one episode in season 2, they actually showed one of the monsters just standing there like an NPC, waiting for them to finish up their morph. It annoyed me because you can't expect your enemies to always be so polite. You need to be able to get off a quick morph sometimes.
    I know that they could just say, 'Link to Morphin Grid,' when they needed to flash-morph, but they did it so often that it just made everything before that in the morph seem unnecessary.

      @@NeoConker626 It's compact compared to Dino Charge, which was such an annoying time-waster that the production team seemed to recognize it about 5 episodes in and came up with multiple different ways to abbreviate it, to the point that the only actually necessary transformation words were "Unleash the power!" and they didn't seem to actually even need to use the guns, just the Dino-Chargers.

    • @NeoConker626
      @NeoConker626 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@katherineberger6329 I agree and disagree lol. I think the Fury morph sequence is cooler and makes more "sense" (using term loosely). But I'm pretty sure it clocks longer in most cases. Probably the issue is consistency. Dino Fury seems to commit to its sequence, so it's fairly consistently portrayed and even when it should be over they have to do their little sword kata to pad it out. Dino Charge clocks a few seconds shorter, but it never comes off as NEEDED. Just a lot of spinning and slapping the gun and all this stuff that doesn't seem necessary since as you say they can literally just... Morph. Or draw the morpher and fire, like the first team morph the energy just hits them and it's a few seconds. Plus the cast was so freaking huge that large group morphs could drag on just showing everyone + any posing and call outs lol. So it def had the potential to be dragged out, but also had super quick morphs kinda become the norm to address it. Dino Fury wasn't as out of control overall, but I still feel like every episode when it was morphing time I was eventually like... Just quick morph, geez!

    One thing I've always thought made or broke a morph/henshin sequence is the morph/henshin phrase. You can have a really good sequence, but if the phrase itself isn't memorable, then you likely won't remember the actual sequence. It comes down to flow, length, and connection to season themes. A few good examples I can think of are Lightspeed Rescue, Time Form Time Force, and Dino Thunder Power Up. The cadence of each phrase has a nice flow, they aren't that long, and they call back to the season theme(even if it is the season name). Another PR example that isn't just the season name would be Jungle Fury. Jungle Beast Spirit Unleashed. Some examples from Super Sentai would be Gaoranger's Gao Access, Gokaiger's Gokai Change, Gingaman's Ginga Tensei. These are all connected to the season theme, have a great flow, and aren't overly long. As for my favorite PR morphing sequence, it's an oldy but goody. The phrase is pretty quick with a great cadence, connects to the season's theme, and the actual sequence itself is great(even though it is just slightly edited Sentai footage). I'm of course talking about Power Rangers In Space. Let's Rocket! 3 3 5

I think this start with Dino Charge until Cosmic Fury and almost all of them is not good. Some things to keep in mind...
    A fast or instantaneous transformation isn't so bad, but only if it's saved for the final quarter of the show, or if you're trying to show that a situation is way too dire for posing and roll calls. It's all ready been explained in-show that these transformations are usually instant anyways (at least to the monsters and outside observers); which means the flashy transformation sequence is mostly for audience enjoyment. We are seeing what the Ranger sees as they transform, but time is basically slowed down in order for us to see it.
    It's hard to say if anyone at Saban, Disney, or Hasbro truly knows how to do their homework. Back in the early years of Power Rangers, they were making seasons just as quickly as stuff was coming out of Japan. No internet or anything. Footage would surprise them because they had no way of predicting what the source footage was going to do. These days? Hasbro is playing catch-up. In theory, they SHOULD be able to do their homework. They are behind what Super Sentai is doing by a few years. There is fansubs. There is internet summaries and resources. However, if no one is being paid to do the homework, it's still possible for the creative team at Hasbro to be unaware of what the Sentai source material is about and what it's trying to achieve. It's a lame excuse, but still possible.

    • @DeadAir21
      @DeadAir21 10 месяцев назад

      It doesn’t matter because Hasboro won’t be using the Sentai footage going forward. Sentai footage is becoming harder to use so the next season whenever that may be will be will be 100% made for Power Rangers

    • @SamuraiEchidna
      @SamuraiEchidna 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@DeadAir21 I'll believe that when I see it. I welcome the day when Power Rangers becomes its own thing 100%, but I doubt it will last long. The whole point of using stock footage was to make the show easier to produce. If they have the money and don't need the stock footage anymore, they better nail it. Because if they fail to understand why people loved Power Rangers in the first place, then the brand will only suffer and fail. They'd have to abandon ship and go back to basics.

    in defence of the gekiranger morph, it was established that the suits were created via tech not really via their animal powers, the animal martial arts were at the time very ancient, and it was studied by the company responsible for the suits, hence the animal motifs, as for the UI display I think it's there to show that the rangers were really in synch with their animal power during the transformation, as for the jungle fury morph it lacked more for me since I feel like the tech part of the suit was like shoehorned in, also I didn't like the sunglass morphers tho it's cool, it didn't really blend well with the suits.

And for how long or not the sequence is, i don't really have a problem with that, because in comparison with Sentai, where most of them have a fast transformation sequence but long roll call, Power Ranger have a long transformatiom sequence but soemtimes fast roll call or no roll call at all. A defense for the Dino/Cosmic Fury morphs: Besides looking cool, an aspect of this story is the connection of the Knights of Rafkon and the Dino Fury team to the Morphin Masters as well as to the grid. That's why their morph looks so otherworldly compared to Ryusoulger's. It's the same reason Lost Galaxy's full-length morphs (with the exception of Magna Defender) included a starfield. I don't think they need to defer to the source material in any way, especially as Toei and PLEX designs get more and more unhinged.
    It's still basically the same below-the-line crew working on Cosmic Fury that worked on Ninja Storm, and mostly the same core writers going back to Dino Charge.

    You put it well on the hasbro morphs, they do take away from the moment. Dino thunder or ninja storm for example, when they morph it kicks of the theme song well, which since neo saban era the theme songs have suffered. Then you have too much hero landing trope as if producers never heard of tropes before. Best morph for me, would be ninja storm given the variety and how well the morphs kicked off the action sequences.

    You missed something big in the Dino Fury morph--in the morphing sequence the rangers are NOT floating in a sea of stars as they morph. That is the morphing grid! There are at least two episode in the series where the source of all ranger powers, the underlying morphing grid, has been exposed for the fans to see and it looked like that. In other words Dino Fury is the first PR series to actually allow the fans to see the morphing grid being tapped into directly as the rangers morph. This is fitting in a series that is trying to expand the PR lore and setting up connections for Cosmic Fury. As we all know, that is the series that ends the franchise as we currently have known it for the past 30 years.

    From the power rangers side I would say mmpr for being simple but also classic which honestly is kinda similar to how zyuranger went about it and you just can't beat that ron Wasserman music behind it lol, dino thunder was also pretty epic and rockin, I know turbo has issues but that's not really its fault given carranger was a big massive joke that even today Toei always treats as the butt of Sentai jokes but for what it's worth the 2 versions of the morph both pre and post gen change outs are decently done. I definitely enjoyed spd morphing sequence for being fast and simple.
    Sentai side I enjoyed gokaiger for again going simple which fit with how the characters were written, kyoryuger really brought a lot of energy with the morph sequence that made it fun, zyuohger really gave it a safari feel and I enjoyed their morph sequence, ToQger definitely delivers on the imagination aspect which made it fun to see happen, oh but you definitely can't beat the greatness that was shinkenger especially with how morph sequence went all on in to deliver the samurai theme and feel.

    I think In Space was simple and similar to Megaranger. But I really like the specific PR addition of "Let's Rock It!" and then the theme song music playing.
    Then there's Dino Thunder which really has that impact and cool feeling of a morph.
    SPD's morph is short but it's cool to see. Plus it fits the idea of an "emergency" imo. They don't have time for a long morph.
    Jungle Fury's was also great. They got the message.
    As for Sentai specifically. I think Hurricanger has a great one. I like the idea that the pieces come on with a computer/technology feel/sound to it.
    Then there's Boukenger. Which I also loved.
    Ninninger's and Zyuohger's change sequences are what I got into the franchise with.
    Ryusoulger's sequence is cool.
    I really like the current BoonBoonger morph even if I think it's not quite as amazing as prior seasons.

    I'm so glad someone is finally addressing this problem. My goodness the morphing sequences in the Hasbro era are really lacking in so much shit. Just their catchphrases alone, "Activate Beast Power" and "Link to Morphing Grid". It's just soulless. I had a rant about this with my friend and no joke I came up with a better catchphrase in 2 seconds. "Dino Power Feel the Fury!" It's corny and stupid yes but it's a whole lot better than fucking Link to morphing grid! I haven't come up with anything for Beast Morphers yet but if you do I'm pretty sure it'll be better than "Activate Beast Power".

      “Feel the Fury” is a good one! I haven’t thought of one for Beast Morphers, but someone commented that Go-Busters literally made it so easy for Power Rangers by using “It’s morphin’ time!” in their show, which I think is pretty funny and a pretty good point 😂

    I've had issues with the morphs, since Dino Charge... The bad green screen, the weird plastic look of the suits, how basic they are and the CGI is often fan film-ish. I quite like the Cosmic Fury morph but the bloom and lighting is bad.

    My opinion on the matter is, it's not just the morphs. Its the overall production, writing, fights and acting. The initiation of the morphs have become wordy and shows how lazy they are to come up with something that fits the team... hell, we had "go, go" and "its Morphin time" over used and hyped. Those 2 call outs only appeal to us older fans because we're aware of its history. And the fighting became mediocre, I've seen better fight sequences with stick figures

    One thing that really bothers me that Power Rangers does (or used to do, i haven't watched in a while) is instant morphs. You know, the kind where they just transform and don't even interact with their morphers, it just happens in a flash. In these cases what's the point of the morpher then? As far as i've noticed that never happens in Sentai, even if they need to transform fast they still always interact with their changers, just... quickly.

    To be fair to hasbro this is a problem that saban started and the team that’s currently working on the show was around for that era including the showrunner. I don’t think the morphs are horrible, convaluted would be the right word. Before neo saban the morphing was simple and sweet, up to four words with music hyping it up then boom we’re done. Nowadays they drag it out and feel like they have to include it’s morphin time in tbe sequence too which doesn’t help the dragged out feeling.

    I think the one good part of Beast Morpher's morph was the visors. The rest was just kinda boring. I always liked Lightspeeds morph. Time Force's is also good, especially when the theme plays over it because its speed fits the theme well. In fact, I dont think we really had a bad morphing sequence from Lightspeed-SPD. Lost Galaxy and Mystic Force were okay; and I liked Jungle Fury too. Also, another lackluster morph that noone gives enough flack is In Space. Just a close up of the face and suddenly they are in the suit, couldnt even remove the Video Game overlay that made no sense for In Space.

  • @nickdeltufo3857

    For me, the sequence needs to be snappy. Take the Ninja Steel morph as an example of what NOT to do:
    1. Hold out the Stars and the morpher.
    2. “Power Stars, lock in!” Put the Star into the morpher.
    3. Bring the morpher over your head, and then bring it back down.
    4. “Ninja SPIN!” Spin the Star.
    5. Immediately disregard the previous steps, pull the fucker out and toss it, just so it can spin around you to materialize your suit.
    It doesn’t help the fact that they go at very moderate pace the entire time, drawing it out way more than it has to.
    Moral of the story, keep it simple, make it snappy.

    You're gonna be waiting a while for them to care, sorry man.
    The showrunner in charge, reportedly, not only wants the series to break from its Tokusatsu roots and thinks Super Sentai is too Japanese for American audiences (ignoring how popular Japanese Manga is here, to the point where it outstrips American comics here), but also is apparently not a fan of Power Rangers.
    Yahtzee once said that he thinks that people who dislike a franchise should be the ones to run it. I think all of this shows us this is a horrible idea and he should be smacking himself for putting it out in the air. Then again, he CHOSE to live in California so his judgement has been bad for a while.

    Momentum is a good phrase for it. That and call outs. Dino/Cosmic Fury is horrid. Just the worst. Watching them all pose up yelling Dino Fury Key! and then Link to Morphing Grid. I have no idea why this takes so long. With the wub wub music in the back ground which doesn't convey the right energy for a morph you get the impression that the heroes aren't taking it seriously.
    It also helps that 99% of the time morphing occurs in previous serious not only was it quick but it was done before leaving the base so if they wanted to pose up it was fine. To initialize the morphers The space in time where the ranger present the key or cosmic orb or whatever then engage the morpher they all could have been killed twice over.
    And the Call Out is so bad. It doesn't sound cool or iconic. Say what you want about Disney era but their call outs were solid. Lots of rhyming with the team names or just wording that made sense with the team name. We also got its morphing time back which sucks. Its how you know PR in the writer's mine is meme instead of an evolving series with new ideas. Losing the "Ready!" call out to initialize everyone to get into position and then morph. It was simply effective and had sort of a rhetorical charge. When they say "Ready" you know it's time.

    Imma be honest i dont mind Hasbros morphing sequences.
    With Beast morphers it has nothing to do with the Spec op thing the Sentai was going for, and i agree the suits dont convey the beast motif like previous shows but i see it as these Rangers being different due to their creator aka the gold ranger's vision for what the suits should look like. Unlike previous rangers who were made by powerful beings or extremely smart mentor figures, these were made by a geeky teen/adult. Knowing him the beast powers were the after thought and the suits were designed first. So i dont mind that the transformation sequence prioritizing beasts when the suits doesnt fit them. Hell Mega force is supposed to be angel themed but it isnt, so at least they acknowledged them at all💀
    With Dino fury they are knights, technically. I remember a flash back where Red's original team were knights, so the motif of "Dino fury" is knights. Which is weird considering its called Dino fury but i degress. I guess theyre called Dino fury cuz of their zords(i know the suits are dino themed but they dont consider themselves as Dino rangers). So it makes sense why the morphing sequence doesn't involve Dinos, but them summoning their armor(thats just how i saw it), remember Zayto(just remembered his name btw) WAS a knight on his planet, the Ranger forms are based on that fact, its not like Dino charge where theyre Dino rangers and their powers come from actual dinosaurs.
    The reason the cosmic fury suits are like that is so the toys would be easier to make, and because theyre upgrades of the dino fury powers. Think of it as a Super Dino fury season, which is why i give it a pass with its mophing scene because it's an upgrade to Dino fury's morphing scene; more of the same thing. Plus even if they DID use the Kyu suits people would get mad that theyre just upgrades for the dino fury suits so im okay with them using semi original suits.
