- A deadly fire consumed a 14-story apartment building in the Spanish city of Valencia. Several residents had to be rescued from their balconies as the flames quickly spread from the fourth floor.

The reason this fire occurred was the same reason London's 2017 Grenfell Tower Fire happened, killing 73 people and changing the legislation about the use of polyurethane as an insulating material in buildings. This fire has already killed 4 and 20 are missing (most likely dead, under the remains of the buildings). I hope there are as less fatalities as possible, thanks to all of those sending prayers from all around the world 🙏🏽
Are we looking at a high-rise apartment building which was NOT equipped with working fire sprinklers? In hindsight, do the builders/owners now FINALLY understand the consequences of their bad decisions?
The NFPA in the USA is not the code for the world.
@bbranett2188 I do not expect the world to conform to NFPA guidelines. (We can't even expect that in the U.S.) However, as a Fire Department Officer of over three decades of experience, I am DEEPLY saddened and frustrated to see injuries and deaths which could easily have been prevented. Caused by greed. Often blamed on a fire department.

yes, you can check the other comment I wrote here, apparently it was also caused by polyurethane. Back then in 2017 it made change the UK legislation about insulating materials. Seems humans never learn…

Good question. I was working in london at the time of the grenfell fire. That tower went up very fast. Due to cladding I think was the investigative conclusion. This fire spread so fast it does remind me of grenfell.

@@Benito-lr8mz I think what you're saying is that the people will be taken care of. And I hope so. However, people died. And even for those living, they may have lost pets, precious family photos, and other things that cannot be easily replaced. Not everything is solved by money.

Wow! Look at that, a raging fire throughout the entire high-rise building and it didn't collapse at free fall speed into it's own footprint. One should wonder how 3 buildings with much less raging fires all collapsed into their own footprint at free fall speed in one single day. Hmmm..curious

Amazing how long the building was on fire for and yet it's still standing with far less structural integrity and steel beams than the 2 towers.
It IS amazing. It's 'as if' steel frame towers don't actually suffer meaningful structural damage from even extended fires... that's probably why demolition of such buildings requires the careful placement of sequentially detonated charges...

This makes me so sad for innocent animals who didn't get out. Worried and sad for the people affected of course, but animals are always the first to perish in situations like this. So so scary and sad. Poor babies...

I’ve watched buildings be built near where I live ( Midwest USA) and I would not ever choose to live in them, made of all wood framing, flimsy looking, I would rather choose an old brick and mortar building vs new. No idea what this building was but obvious was flammable materials.

Depends on how hot it burns and what the structure points are made of. In this case the building is built using steel reinforced concrete as it's structural pillars so it can withstand a burning without collapsing for quite a while. A Building say like the Twin towers which were built with solid steel framing and were being roasted by fire produced from jet fuel made the steel framing just malleable enough that the buildings simply gave out under their own weight.

2008 Spanish building codes thought this material was fine, so the building passed inspection, however todays building codes dont allow it anymore

How does an entire building become completely engulfed and destroyed by fire like that? Appears response was slow. Praying the missing are found safe.

The fire started at 5pm, so most people were awake and could escape thankfully

Scray stuff. Always prepare for the worst. Have a plan in place and please please please, do not open up a window until you have a legitimate plan. Once you open that window, smoke will flood directly to you. Fire wants to escape, so don't send it to your location.
