I lost my betta fish to cancer in January this year :( he was the first fish I had ever gotten and launched me into the hobby to the point where I now am going to school for marine biology/ have a bunch of tanks in a tiny room. Love this vid ❤️❤️❤️
Two things I learned watching this short but beautiful video: 1. You have a heart of gold and I see how much influence that is having on your kids 2. Using a colander thingy with catches on each side is very useful for breaking up the flow of water when filling a tank Thank you for sharing the video 😀
Everything was great, but one thing, you could place him straight into the water without doing it from a higher distance. I hope he enjoys his new home for many years to come
What a sweet little story! I love this video - it reminds me of the old Mr Rogers videos. Kind and gentle :-) ANd the kids learn that the needs of our pets for proper care are more important than our original lofty goals- thus MTS is born!
Thank you! Yeah, I wish Sonic had been able to stay in the community tank because he was such a gorgeous centerpiece fish. He's a lot happier now that he's not constantly having to defend his territory and has started making bubble nests. :)
I just bought this exact tank for my 4 year old beta, Orchid. I had a 5 gallon that started leaking profusely so I knew I had to get a new one. Orchid is enjoying the extra half gallon of space, and I feel like the tank is the perfect size for my room and table. I hope Sonic likes his new home too!
Yes, that's exactly why I did it! And I put the sponge filter behind the large anubias so that it won't splatter the light as much (since the Finnex Stingray isn't waterproof). Good eyes. 🤓
Same thing happened here! My Betta (same color as Sonic) ended up being stressed in a 20g long community (and he was the biggest fish), developed fin rot and got pretty sick. We quarantined him in a 10 while he recovered and also set up a heavily planted 20g long of his own to move to. He’s now thriving in his bachelor pad and has grown most of the fins & tail back.
Ok, I had to go back and watch it twice because that photo of poor Soundwave and the music made me tear up and blurred my vision. I'm so happy that Sonic is happy in his new home! I fear my Cosmo would kill any tankmate, so he lives alone and happy in his bachelor pad.
I got a new betta couple weeks ago that looks exactly like Sonic. His name is Baron, after my highschool mascot, because of his flowing "robes" and blue and gold were our school colors. Unlike Sonic, Baron seems to be ignoring his tankmates. But... I'm not sure I would mind the excuse to set up another tank!
My Blue Mustard/Paradise Betta is a calm and friendly guy. He rarely flares at the neons and platies unless he wants to be left alone. Most of the time the Platies are the jerks 🤣
My betta Scrump is so stressed out from the passive-aggressive mystery snail (Turboette-she was just Turbo till she started laying egg clutches obsessively). I am currently cycling a second tank in my home office for Scrump to move into. His dorsal fin is almost gone despite salt treatments and at least two of the medications that turn the water green-blue. He's just grumpy. I don't blame him. I hated passive-aggressive roommates myself.
I lost my first love Betta fish named Sky from jumping to his aquarium 3days ago. Color is same as Sonic. 💔 very heartbreaking :((. Hope Sonic will live long happy and healthy.
I noticed you had some dog food in your cart, I recommend you switch it over to a better quality diet if possible. It really makes a huge difference in their well being. Orijen is a really good one imo
my betta fish is so aggressive too. i put him in a tank with 7 small catfish. he tried to bite the smallest one, a lot, mostly that one. but he also chased it and others. so i had to separate him and put him in another tank all by himself.
Happy fish! Funny how different each betta can be... I have a giant male betta in with a bunch of cherry barbs... he thinks he's one of them, lol... :)

Irene, four months in quarantine. Wow. Did you use your EASY way: one packet of Maracyn to 10 gallons and leave for seven days? Did you have to do it more than once? Thanks.
I still can't get used to seeing Betta (or any live creature actually) sealed for sale in plastic cups. It's completely illegal here in the UK thank god.
I’ve had my Betta for about six months now. He’s been in a small tank that I feel is too little for him. So I got a new 20 gallon tall with hopes of introducing him to some tank mates that are known to be a good match for bettas. Over the last month that I have been getting the new tank set up, cycling it and adding new tank mates, he has started becoming very aggressive. He has always been a very docile and sweet betta, which is why I thought he was a good candidate for becoming part of a community. But now, every time I even walk near his tank, he flares at me. I don’t know what is going on with him, and if this is normal behavior to have a young betta that seemed fairly nonaggressive to suddenly start flaring anytime anyone‘s in the room. I have in my other tank five Kuhli loaches and four young African dwarf, frogs that I was told would be good tank mates. I think I’m sadly coming to the conclusion that it’s not even worth releasing him in the tank. I have a lot of large driftwood and rock, and it would be even more traumatizing for him and the rest of the critters to have to chase him down with a net to get him back out. I am so bummed.
I got a little female when I first got tigress she was red and blue and then she became purple with red fins. She doesn't enjoy being with other fish. She will chase him really quickly she's quite fast actually
Where did you get your betta? Someone told me a lot of times the pet stores will sell older ones. REason for asking, my daughter wanted one at Christmas, it has done fine till recently, I changed the water oncea weeek it has become so lethargic and lays on the bottom and looksa little swollen, dont think it will live much longer. Got it at a pet store, so I don't know if it was older or not
Sadly this is where I am right now. My very handsome koi galaxy male betta has decided he can’t be friends with anyone. Including a snail. So he has his own tank on the way
Nice setup! And nice videos! Question - Would it be okay to lay down root tabs the same way you put down the green capsules? I'm guessing those provide fertilizers for the plants? I've never put fertilizer into tanks before.... so will be a first for me!
Love your channel! Have a couple questions. How do you know for sure the cause of the fin rot was due to stress with his tank mates, and if you had removed the other fish, instead of him, could you have used the antibiotics he needed and medicated him in his home tank, or would that have killed your beneficial bacteria? Just got my first betta. Thanks!
Wow what a nice betta fish Quick question what antibiotic did you use for the rin rot I had a betta that had the same problem aquarium salt didn’t work Thankq
Amazing transformation. Only thing I noticed was Dropping fish strait into a new Environment is extremely harsh on a fish. This could lead to shock or potential death. Acclimating is very important as this is the process where a fish and the water from the old Environment can adjust to new temperatures. Other than that it looks great. 🙂
I didn't see anyone talk about this either. They seemed extremely educated considering they had a community tank, I was thinking they cut out the scene of the acclimation process??
i really need some help..long story short, my betta fish went down the sink, luckily, i was able to jerk the pipes underneath off and save him, this has been over a week ago, now he really won't eat, shakes, twitches, i have got everything i can could possibly get to try to make him feel better, i have a video of how he's doing, and his fins/tail does not look good, i have been using the aquarium salt, he's in a tank alone, has sponge filter & heater, also i have used a half of an ich fizz tab, nothing seems to be helping, to me he looks miserable. I need help..when i got him i didn't know how much it really took to care for him, but when i watched videos and everything, i did the right things and got him a filter and heater, and all the right water treatment drops, and i don't want to lose him..if there's any way you can help me, i don't know how to send/upload the video i have of him, but thanks for taking the time to read this. I have recently came across your videos and find them very helpful, thanks.
Hi can anyone help me I want to add liquid fertilizers to my tank it is heavily planted and has one 8w led but it is non co2 so If I add liquid fertilizers will it trigger algae
I dropped my betta to a community tank and he seems cool with others but I noticed that his beautiful tail is not spread out like when he was alone in the cup, is this normal? Or is he stressed out?
Clamped fins and lethargy is often from cold water or poor water quality. It can also be from protozoan or bacterial infections. Do a water test on your tank for ammonia and other bacteria. Hope this helped!
I'm so relieved too! That fin rot was pretty persistent and I couldn't figure out why he wasn't healing faster when his energy level and appetite were both great. Turns out I forgot that I had the quarantine tub next to the bathroom mirror and he was flaring at it when I wasn't around. Once I covered up that side of the tub with a towel, he finally started growing back his tail. 👍
I lost my Betta Rex due some illness and he was in a community tank, the I put him in his own tank and tried all kinds of treatment but he just got worse. and then he died
He is so pretty. Do you remember what kind of anubias you used? Yours is lovely and big. I am going to re plant my Spec V with java fern, anubias, and a lily or banana plant if I can get one.
Can bettas thrive on a diet of exclusively: Frozen Daphnia, Frozen Mysis Shrimp, Frozen Brine shrimp, Frozen Bloodworms, Live Flightless Fruit Flies, and Live Confused Rice Flour Beetle Larvae?
Oh good point! I got the Aqueon 16" long glass lid that's hinged: www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/aqueon-versa-top-hinged-glass-aquarium-top-16-l
Hello! I was wondering if you can make a video on some super glue products that are safe for aquariums! It’s ok if not :D . And the reason I posted this comment is Because I’m planning to make my own tanks like your I like all the fish tanks you make and it inspired me and I’m a little nervous I use any type of super glue it my might kill the fish or get the fish sick, it’s ok if you don’t want to make the video!
You may already have found out the answer to this question, but just in case ... you can look for krazy glue / super glue / gorilla glue in the gel formula. The glue is made from cyanoacrylate, which quickly dries hard and is aquarium safe when dry.
That 5.5 aqueon rimless tank seem so tacky and such a ripoff. Its basically just a standard 5.5 gallon without the top frame. The edges aren't curved and there's silicone lol. You probably could've just gotten yourself a regular 5.5 gallon and went to lowes for acrylic sheet to use as cover. Get a submersible led light and a regular sponge filter. The aquarium co op version is way too big. My 5.5 setup is similar to yours except I have a paradise fish. I use sand as substrate. I have my two panda corys do all the gravel vacuuming. Floating plants is always a must for me. No root tabs. Only have bolbitis and some varieties of Java fern. My corys, 2 amanos, an oto and a nerite. They all play their part in keeping my small nano tank from experiencing any shifts in water parameters.
I've had such a similar experience with my betta RuPaul (after all, betta's are the drag version of the fish world). I'm just cycling his new tank after trying him in with my ember tetras for a couple of months. He keeps tearing his fins and developed patches of fin rot. I think he just stresses himself out, he swims constantly around the tank at quite high speed while my embers sit there going 'what is with this guy?' I think we're both doing the right thing putting our betta's in their own home!

Unfortunately I got it from a fish club auction a while ago and the seller didn't label the species. It's huge though!
@@GirlTalksFish it is beauyiful
Hey girl. What antibiotics did you use please?
Maracyn, which contains the antibiotic erythromycin (link in description) 👍
Can bettas thrive on a diet of exclusively: Frozen Daphnia, Frozen Mysis Shrimp, Frozen Brine shrimp, Frozen Bloodworms, Live Flightless Fruit Flies, and Live Confused Rice Flour Beetle Larvae?
That's a lot of great variety in foods and they're primarily carnivores, so I think you're on the right track. :)
What’s the Black wallpaper called?
Beautiful video
platy - who is this dude wearing a skirt who keep chasing me?
I got a beta just last month and I named him sonic too
Can I have the link to the lid you used?I don’t see it in description
Oh good point! I got the Aqueon 16" long glass lid that's hinged: www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/aqueon-versa-top-hinged-glass-aquarium-top-16-l
@@GirlTalksFish Thank you so much!
we have a black mustard oil betta too
Oh no, Irene. I am so sorry to hear about Soundwave. So very sorry.
How many aquarium due you have
Currently 3 tanks + 1 quarantine tub :)
Wish i had seen this earlier my betta just ate most of my neon tetras body i had 2 and now the other one is alone 🥺
What is check vovl?
A check valve is a one-way valve that stops water from coming back up your airline tubing and damaging your air pump.
I recently got a betta of my own and I like it it’s is cute😂
Can my betta fish survive dropsy?
I've had such a similar experience with my betta RuPaul (after all, betta's are the drag version of the fish world). I'm just cycling his new tank after trying him in with my ember tetras for a couple of months. He keeps tearing his fins and developed patches of fin rot. I think he just stresses himself out, he swims constantly around the tank at quite high speed while my embers sit there going 'what is with this guy?' I think we're both doing the right thing putting our betta's in their own home!
Very cute
Alright, who disliked the video. Whoever it was needs to take it back right now
I have a female who looks just like the intro betta
Very nice.
IRENE!
