  • Is it possible for a 125cc 2 Stroke to be competitive in a race against a full field of 450 4 Stroke Dirt Bikes? Let's find out!
16-year-old two stroke prodigy Wal Beaney lines up on board a super-trick race tuned Yamaha YZ125 and is ready to take on the fastest 450 class pro's in the country. Have no doubt, this is going to be a tough day in the office for this 125cc Hero, but Wal is made of tough stuff and has the heart of the lion. He might be a 2 Stroke prodigy, but today he's the ultimate underdog....and we hope you guys have some fun cheering him on!
This Hardcore Racing YZ 125 was built by Roland Shaw and is dripping with trick bits. Check out this video to see exactly what was done to the bike: • Building the World's B...

Johnny O'Mara on his Honda CR125 absolutely whooped the world's best factory 500 2-stroke riders in the 1986 Motocross des Nations. Good 125s in the hands of talented riders should always be feared.

I did this at 46. It's a blast. I was always a 125 specialist. Racing against a bunch of guys on 450's is fun. You can take it into the corners soooo deep and take their lines. Passed half the pack in the first turn by not shuttin' off. I didn't win, but boy it was fun.

No need for in-fighting. We're here for fun and any dirtbike is fun. Had a brand new YZ250, got stolen almost immediately. I loved that bike. Got a KTM 250sx 2nd hand, loved that too. Had a YZ426F, loved that. Now I have a WR450. Guess what? I love it. It's also my daily commuter but on weekends it's my hobby. Mud slinging.
All I will say is, the feeling a 2 stroke gives me when it winds round to that power band (from 3rd gear up) and the whole bike sort of feels like it comes alive, gets sharper then the scenery starts to pass by like you're in the millennium falcon.
I know modern 4 strokes are faster, but, the 2 strokes FEEL faster.
It's a bit like a car I used to have. It was turbo charged. There was sizeable turbo lag but when the boost came on, it would absolutely take off.
Like I say, I've had other cars that were also turbocharged but the power delivery was totally different. Gradual and smooth.
BUT, I much prefer turbo lag. When it kicks in and your guts are suddenly rearranged.
    2 strokes deliver that too.

@@999lazer last week you ran a new four stroke 450 gasgas against the clock ...then on the same track you ran a new two stroke 125 gasgas against the clock and it was only a second and fraction from the same times of the 450 four stroke ..the new two stroke mc125 gasgas makes 40hp ..this is the most powerful 125 two stroke or four stroke in the history of motocross racing..nobody today seems to know why two strokes are and will always be more powerful than four strokes !!! I was hired in 1975 by a honda dealership .you were required to attend the factory honda R&D training center. Our instructors name was pops yoshimura who had designed developed built and put into production the very first honda two stroke . This all new two stroke was designed by the worlds most famous and knowledgeable tuner of all motorcycles the world had ever seen..the class i was attending with yoshimura for a week of 8 hours per day was all about the honda CR250M Elsinore ..in this class you were required to all ready have a formal college associates degree of applied science concerning internal combustion engines in which i did and thought i knew it all , until i met my guru and instructor pops yoshimura ..for the rest of the week yoshimura explained to me like no college had ever done exactly what how why and when a two stroke makes power of what is referred to as "the power band" that is as simple as rocket science ! Ill try to explain ! As you know the first Elsinore was piston port induction and exhaust extraction ! There were no reed valves or exhaust power valves just a bunch of holes around three moving parts that were the piston , rod , and crank ! So why does it make so much more power than a 4 stroke ...there are many reasons but the main and important reason is the fact that two strokes of this nature are internally self supercharging bringing the crankcase pressure well above the atmospheric pressure every time the piston travels to bottom dead center ..then as the rpm's go up the piston is moving faster than the naturally aspirated air/fuel can flow through the carb, intake, and crankcase allowing the bottom side of the piston to start compressing the intake air creating boost ...in order for husqvarna to manage their transfer port EFI they had to install pressure sensors in the crankcase to accurately measure to boost and correct the air/fuel ratio to stop piston seizure at high rpms ..when a two stroke starts making boost pressure is the beginning of the power band and when "she's on the pipe" that is the moment the greatest effect is felt from the most sound wave reflect from the reverse cone of the expansion chamber and block the supercharged air/fuel from escaping the exhaust port until the piston covers the exhaust port ...drill and tap a 1/16th npt for a pressure fitting in the bottom of a two crankcases , attach a hose and pressure gage to the fitting and show all the boys and girls out there in you tube land that two strokes make boost .. four strokes can only suck bang and blow

I think it was the 1986 motocross of nations the "O'Show" beat all the champions 125,250,500 champions on a 125 ....with huge up hills ....it not the size of the dog in the fight...it's the fight in the dog"
This is a priceless trick of mine......should probably charge a G-note for this....at the starting line.....body right up on the gas tank, right foot on peg, left foot in front of the shifter planted on the ground...launch in second gear....and grab third gear with the back of your left heal...while adjusting your body weight for traction.... I guarantee better placement at the first corner! Great work kid!

I love this, but what class was that? Lol. I saw a dude straight up in a corner with his foot straight out. Meaning he wasn't leaning over in a rut, nothing. With his leg stuck up next to the radiator shroud. Im kinda making fun, yes. It's all in good fun everyone starts somewhere I know that. Honestly though, how does that make sense in your head right? That foot down thing has just never made any sense to me. My issue was the rear brake as a beginner. Loved that rear brake. So my dad took it completely off my bike and made me race like that. Other than knowing the scrub style of riding was the future. He tauy me that from the time I was on my yz80. Removing my rear brake had the biggest positive affect on my 10/10ths riding. Remember, legs on pegs, elbows up, eyes up, visor up.....STAND UP!!!!!

Kid's got great talent and is going to finish on top of the podium in the near future....but hopefully with the videos of his achievements having much less overkill narration because constant chatter that including obvious visual basics like "the gate dropped" & "he clicked it into gear" was for me kind of a distracting annoyance that resulted in turning the volume way down so I could focus on the kid's ridding w/out the interference. In the future editing in post race narration by the kid himself would be much more pleasant to listen to as well as perspectively truly accurate and interesting. Just a thought...lol😎

After the 1st race I’d of appreciated knowing what was fastest lap was compared to the winners just to put in perspective what the pace was of the 125 …jus sayin’

Great talent and great bike. Must have left some redfaced racers behind having 3.6 time the deplacement. 250 would have been another matter since their track time is about the same versus 450

I always use to race my 125 in the open class. Gave me an extra ride for the day and was some of my best racing, especially on tight, technical tracks.

I once raced in a GP series +40 Vet on a 15 year old 125. Pass and be passed and pass again. Both fun and frustrating.

His suspension is set up too soft. He's bottoming out on small jumps. But gutsy guy for trying to compete in the 450 class.
