Please keep in mind that AI "art generators" use real artists work without their permission or consent. The creators of AI image generators are benefiting from using others work without any means for artists to stop them, there is currently no way for artists to protect their property or get credited for their work being used in such ways. There have even been instances where AI generates a "signature" onto its "art" because the artwork its "learning from" has that artists signature on it. It's very predatory to creators who are already underpaid and underappreciated, and not something that should be supported until there are more safeguards in place. Please support artists instead. :(

As an artist that is already having hard time breaking through and making money with my stuff- AI art absolutely terrifies me. And the way people treat it online and absolutely attack artists that dare to oppose it is concerning
There are already AIs that let you pick artists style and generate pictures as drawn by them. That is so disrespectful I cannot even express it properly
And people have the audacity to say artists are entitled and it's same as when machines started to replace workers in factories.
I genuinely wonder how long until AI generated music and movies will hit mainstream. Imagine if they fed AI all albums of your favorite band or singer and it started generating songs using their voice and music style. Would people accept is as much as they accept AI art?

Joey, artist here for a warning on AI.
While I can't speak for the specific AI used in this video, many other AI like it have been used for negative reasons, and they're very problematic. For example, one artist worked on a sketch of a drawing on a live stream and somebody took that image, put it through an AI like the one in this video, and then claimed it as their own, effectively stealing the hard work of another artist.
There's also the issue of HOW these AI models get trained. For instance, NovelAI uses Danbooru as a dataset without the permission of any of the artists being hosted on there, meaning that thousands upon thousands of artists and millions of artworks have been scalped and used to train an AI, meaning people can replicate those art styles with no effort at all, while the people who spent years and countless hours creating the original art get fucked over. Stable Diffusion has also been outed as having peoples medical records as part of its dataset, which I'm sure I don't need to tell you is a MASSIVE fucking no-no in this scenario.
AI art generators in general are SUPER fucking sus when it comes to shit like stealing art, so it's best to steer clear of them in the future. Many artists, including myself, DESPISE these AI because of those very reasons, yet people still religiously defend them for some reason despite the facts. It's really disheartening, and in the future I'd suggest just paying some people on Fiverr to do this or something.

I'm an artist myself but I see nothing wrong with AI using works of artist to create something new. Its the same thing with how artist gets inspired by someone else's work and using the drawings as reference to improve/train themselves.
The problem is those who use it, AI is simply a tool. Plus AI can also be beneficial to artists to create concepts or sketches before finalizing it. For example I've done a drawing myself by using a prompt I made on Dall E Mini solely to copy the color value because I suck at coloring.

Joey, this stuff is generated using pictures and artwork found online and all without consent from any of us. I get this was all for fun and out of curiosity but this supports an industry that exploits hard work made by real people and it's starting to really hurt artists all across the world. There already are AIs trained to replicate specific artists' styles which is even more disturbing, and what's worse is the music industry managed to protect itself from at least one of these AIs by making it illegal for it to use copyrighted music but somehow the visual art medium wasn't spared and they're just taking our art and dumping it every day into their database.
If you want some portraits that are actually interesting I'm sure you have tons of followers who do commissions and would also be able to give you a discount just because they like you. Just some criticism from a long-time subscriber and artist.

As someone who has experimented with these AI art programs (the proper ones, not this img-to-img nonsense) it's not as simple as stealing art. People use 4-5 artists in prompts that have artists at all, and if you look at the artwork the artist made and the AI output, you know they aren't even similar. For example, the thing that got Stable Diffusion famous overnight for a lot of people was the Big-tiddy Victorian Girl Oil Paintings, and by far the first artist in any of those prompts was Greg Rutkowski. Now go look at any of his art, it's all fantasy and dragons, hard to see how he contributed to the perfect face and massive bosoms you find on Twitter. If anything, Though you CAN put in a single artist and maybe it'll copy their style (dunno, never tried), by-and-large, the artists names are simply being added to tell the AI to change the default style that it usually uses, or even to an overall type of painting (baroque, renaissance, anime, etc), cuz lets face it, who installs several Gigabytes of software to generate the boring artwork of famous artists as-is?

I fully understand the concern artists feel about AI generated art. I am a hobby artist myself but I have considered selling my art. Through my journey to become a reasonably adept artist, I came across one particular phrase a lot, "use references." I never thought about any negative aspect of this so long as my art was sufficiently distinct enough from the reference. This came from using multiple references in one piece of artwork to build something distinct which could stand on its own.
I was upset at the idea of AI art, at first. Until I realized that this use of references which I, and many other artists, recommended, was identical to the process which these AIs go through. The AIs draw upon references, not only art but still images and photoshoots as well, to create artwork which is distinct from the reference. I do not think we should be holding this method of art creation to a higher standard than any other. Does it feel bad? Yes. Is it logically consistent to criticize AI art for the most often cited method of boosting one's own art? No.

An AI is a robot that's been programmed to analyze other people's art and recreate it. It's not using artists for "reference" it's just using artists period because it's the only way it'll know how to make art if it can't copy what others are doing- and if you're an artist and you're cool with sharing your art to an AI that's fine by me but there's a bunch of artists who aren't okay with seeing their art being used as "reference" ie replicated by AI. The creators of the AI are not given permission or even credit to the artist and photographers that steal from. These tech companies are trying to use these loopholes/ gray areas to bypass it while making a quick buck and hurting the REAL people involved.

Like anyone could use these generators based on someone else’s hard work and sell it as their own! Does that even make sense??? How is that fair!!! It’s so demoralizing to see people brush away my concerns and fears that something I have so much passion for isn’t a big issue in their eyes.
I mean I get where the people who are arguing for the Ai are coming from, from a technical and legal level you can’t copyright art style. But I just hate how some people hold no respect for the time an passion artist put into their work just to be compared or is some cases replaces by these computer generated images.
And for those who are speaking about references, that’s a different conversation completely. Which I am willing to have.
Sorry for the rant, it’s just really close to home.

This will hurt musicians as well, especially those small composers making stuff for indie games, very small beatmakers who make enough to live off of, but not much more, heck even bigger artists. As someone who works in IT, and as an artist, there needs to be more awareness of how these algorithms are made, and even if it doesn't hurt your favorite artist or musician, it is hurting those smaller ones who you may not know now, but could've been much bigger.

This is a fun video, BUT as an artist and full time illustrator, I’m incredibly concerned and against these AI programs. Why? I’ll talk about one of the many issues some of us are dealing with:
Even tho AI has its flaws and still in the “beginning” stages, the general audience doesn’t know the fundamentals or basics in art and design, so it’s very easy for people to get lured and scammed. I’m already seeing AI art being posted in art groups in social media, and these wannabe or fake “artists” are trying to pass AI artwork as original art to get easy customers 🤨 Professionals can usually spot fake or AI generated art, but the majority of people don’t see the difference, look at the art and immediately respond with “Oh wow, cool art bro! You’re so talented!” and it gets 500+ likes and shared all over the platform. Meanwhile, the small group of professional artists notice it’s AI generated artwork, call it out as such, but the person who posted it defends his/her “artwork” as “originally made using AI software” 🤔 This is not a joke, it’s happening all over social media and at an increasing rate.
The fact that these AI “artists” are trying to SELL this artwork when the program is doing all the work and technically STEALING different art styles and illustrations from other sources is what really pisses me off. This is just the tip of the iceberg, because the music and writing communities are also seeing AI generated programs that are being developed and coming in the near future.
Please be careful and keep a watchful eye, because AI is going to get better to the point where even the best in his/her field will not be able to tell what is made by machine or man ): The creative industry is going to be at risk and there will be less jobs for our future generations if we don’t hurry up and demand restrictions on AI before things get out of hand.

Art is, by most cases, a form of self expression that comes in many forms like music, visual arts and performance, in order for someone to do this it uses reference from real life, other people and personal experiences to guide you in your creativity.
If you are being pedantic, everything that exists around us is derivative of something, art uses information around us, mixed with experiences and personal flair to craft something new, would you say artists like Da Vinci are derivative for his flying machine because it looks like bat?
AI would not be able to make art if it didn't a bank of artists images feeding it directly, it doesn't understand reference, people are not perfect machines, even the most accurate photo realistic painter will not get every detail that a high quality camera can capture.

As an artist who's also into tech, this development is both super interesting and extremely sad. We see the beginnings of similar tech in writing and music, which slowly leads to us removing meaning from the art humans create. The beauty of any piece of art is the work and the feelings put into the piece by the artist. Even if the artist may have arguably worse technique than a well trained AI, there will never be intent or emotion in this kind of art and I think it's weird how we ourselves walk to that kind of future happily. It's as if people are starting to forget what attracted us to art in the first place. Probably because the digital age far removes us from the sources and feeds us more art than ever for the sake of quick entertainment and consumption.

@@HandleToBeDetermined Of course human made art will not go away, but it still feels like more and more people might just not care enough to discern what is artificial and what is not. The fact that a majority of people eat up the same generic cookie-cutter stuff again and again is perfectly shown by the success of marvel movies imo. I believe many people will not care, especially if the art has more of a supporting role, which ultimately still result in artist losing jobs. Not all artists work on stand-alone paintings or illustrations after all.

Personally, I’m against the widespread use/distribution of AI art generators and AI art, mainly due to how hard it is to control and the many ethical issues that stem from it. From what I’ve seen in the comments, much of AI art generator databases are made of stolen, non-consented artworks available on the Internet space. Proceeding on, while these artworks are used to develop the program, the end product cannot be used commercially due how it was made by blurring the lines between copies of artworks and mixing them together. While I feel it’s fine with people using it for fun or artists using it for inspiration (note: purely inspiration), there should be no monetary entanglement anywhere. Not to downplay the programmers who made the AI (especially if that’s what you like to do), but there’s definitely not enough rules yet to define the lines between what can be done, what is banned, what is allowed etc. I will admit I’m not very knowledgeable on the scope of how AI generated art can influence the industry and individual artists but I’ll just leave this here. Hopefully no argument appears and Imma peace out.
(A little something here cuz like, is there T&C for posting your art on the internet or social media? Everything you post is subject to your own responsibility? How far does copyright apply and does it save your case for suing? I’ve decided to stop my comment there cuz like there’s so so many things to consider and explain in text form it’s busting my brain. Props to those who went and argued in long texts for the past few hours o_o)

Sorry joey But, Not us seeing joey use stolen art works in his pfp. Knowing Joey likes things in a superficially way. Cus Joey is a cool dude and after seeing some of his videos (interview with Japanese mafia for a better example) he likes things just because they look cool the mafia dude even called him out on it and it hasnt really changed since. And yeah it does look cool(because it was fed amazing art by real people to generate it ) but also making a video about this and not doing much about it or at least a disclaimer (although we know they paid 4 bucks for the ai) and he obviously didn't know much about the art world. It's a great example of a normal person's perspective hopefully the ai generators stop taking money and put in the @ and credits of artists artwork that was used to give ur generated image inspiration. Because when u type in some words it need to take references to create your image. Hope this changes so we can look at those artist and give them money and commissions and u can find a piece thats really truley fit for you and made for you and made with real care. bc that is what art should if comercialized for clients, branded for you and only u can use it. For more public art works there is a website for that and use can use it, if u don't like anything maybe find artits on ig or do a reverse image google seach find their website and other artist along the way become friends with artists and find out how they make something and the process, or learn ur self. If u don't want to learn then, u must understand at some lever that art can be difficult and u dont wanna mess it up, and u if u think that some art is easy to make then u understand that art can be broken doen to simple piece and still convey something. U need to understand that artists values themselves just as much as u value ur time, as the money u don't wanna give them or the time u can't wait for an art piece. All the time they put and what they learn u don't have that that's what artist sell and that is valuable.

artist here! so personal opinion, while yes AI is going to hit our industry HARD its also going to be a good thing for traditional artists long term! Without sounding rude as someone whos been in the industry for a bit now ( illustrator/splash art) one thing I have always noticed is how many artist that cant actually draw or have minimal ability thanks to the digital tablets. Most of the time they are taking images and tracing over or painting over and while this does increase speed and output it kills creativity and drawing ability. with AI getting smarter each day why pay someone who essentially traces images to do work that you can have done in seconds for free any style you want? Once it evolves to a certain point and starts taking over in a few years i feel like people will want that more tradition feel again that imagine that no one else has, the only copy, something that has heart and soul put into it. While digital can produce AMAZING results for artists without the fear of ruining a piece it always feels so souless and cheap to me and once AI is everywhere i feel like others will start looking at it the same way and want the feeling of a tangible unique piece once more. However that being said i think art will be a bit of a dying industry once AI takes over cause while the niche for traditional will be on the rise the skill ceiling that comes along with it will be a lot higher and that will be a huge drop off for most artists that have reached there max potential. So to any other artists out there that read this pick up a pencil and pad and start lvling up your skills cause when the storm hits you want to be able to weather it!
