The figure is called in geometry, the Reuleaux triangle. It has some interesting mathematical properties, but I’m impressed that you’re getting what look like perfect ellipses. . And then the flower! - that’s mathematically significant to my little mind. 😄
@@Alusnovalotus yes absolutely! It’s stunning.. I mean knowing the Reuleaux, and what goes into a construction on paper, and then knowing how complicated it is to construct an ellipse with compass & straight edge.. and then it give rise in the end to the flower of life! Yeah, that’s stunning to me.
Of course perfect elipses, 1 end is anchored in the middle at times, and when it is you're rotating 1/6th of a turn, and there are 6 movesets. Essentially it's just a compass, but it draws with both ends and the middle. It's only when you shift what is the anchor point that you get anything other than circles.
and mentally and spiritually as well! No wonder people believe in things like sacred geometry. It's like a magic trick backed up by mathematics, performed in the dust of the earth, using the simplest of tools. Frick.
There's a simple pattern to it if you watch closely :) In total there are six sets of moves, each with six moves. In each set the tool makes a full 360 degree rotation. The pivot point alternates between the left prong and the middle prong, so L, M, L, M, L, M (stop) each at 60 degrees.
I think it wouldn't be too hard if you're just focus on what you're doing and repeating the same pattern. What makes it difficult is if you just see the entire pattern and lose focus of what you're doing.
If anybody is curious, this shape is a variation of the Seed of Life. The seed of life is traditionally made with perfect circles, but in some instances is made with ovals like this. This is an ancient symbol of Tuva, also found on its flag and other cultural symbology - a people in Russian Siberea. The Buddhist aspects and historical ties of this symbol are profound. Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu is from Tuva. I was wondering yesterday how the Tuvan wheel symbol is translated and this smooth drawing explained it really well (maybe this is a new utube algorithm that matches pictures in what you watch and recommends it to you)
A question about the patterns you draw each rotation: Do the triangulated circles have a name? They consist of 6 circle fractions that smoothly transition, and there are two sizes of circles which alternate. I'm not that knowledgable in Geometry, but as a mathematics student this type of geometric object seems pretty interesting
The small initial 'triangle' composed of circle sections is a reuleaux triangle, very cool in it's own right. The larger triangulated circle around it is explained very well in a Mathologer video here: ruclips.net/video/-eQaF6OmWKw/видео.html

This is classical parametric architecture and a good class of geometry. Geometry constructions are of fundamental importance in parametric architecture and architecture in general. Compound compasses are odd forgotten objects that have a lot of use. The algorithm and sequencing of the pattern produces an outstanding Grasshopper definition that requires lots of list shifts, list items and masking. This is not trivial. Conceiving the sequence that generates the drawing is a task on itself. Keplerian orbits and golden ratio geometry in one motif. Interesting.
