Mooncat needs to hire you for their PR... They have an amazing amount of swatches for each color on their website, but watching a color get swatched is SO much better... You can get a feel for the consistency and texture of the polish much better this way! Thank you!
100% agree, this helps so much. My friend bought some as a gift for me and she got confused which was magnetic or not too. So showing how they look at this speed is perfect!
This was very nice of you to do but as someone who’s done similar things for others, you didn’t have to do this and you shouldn’t spend your time doing things like this unless it’s your brand or you’re getting paid. No disrespect, just looking out for someone like myself

I did this to my nail polish collection a few weeks ago and it is so satisfying having all the swatches in rainbow order. I catalogued mine in a spreadsheet as well, and am using a random number generator to pick a new colour for me each week that way I actually wear my collection and not just red or black.
I’m only 5 minutes in but it’s a travesty that I don’t own any Mooncat nail polishes because these colors are all so gorgeous. I need to purchase some immediately!

Honestly it was kinda tough to decide because it meant losing the textured finish of the polishes (and seeing the matte versions!) So I don't think there's a wrong choice really 😅😅

I love this cataloguing idea…I’m starting to get repeats and an excessive amount of polishes and it gets tough to remember what each one looks like! I think I need to do this same thing with my collection 🥰
This makes me want mooncat polishes 😅 but also I love the inclusivity of their website! Skin colors and varying nail lengths! That’s refreshing, especially because I’m a short nail girlie.
I don't like painting the underside because if I am heavy-handed it pools. Some sticks also have a weird crackling effect when it comes into contact with polish so there's some weird ripples in the stick surface. I just paint the top and look at the bottom if I want to see it shiny. Also, I like doing magnetics in the 3-tier sticks so I can leave one unmagnetized, and one cat eye and one velvet. P.S. I love this type of video... it doesn't necessarily make me want to go out and buy more polish, but it gives me that dopamine rush of looking at polish/doing my nails when I don't have the energy to do my nails for the 3rd time this week XD

i LOVE mooncat polishes including the bottle and logo design. thank you for doing this! they have such cool finishes and i also have really enjoyed their creme finishes as well
Like the idea of saving on top coat, but I opted to use my under side of the swatchsticks to showcase the "other" version: if the polish is a glossy by default, then the under side shows it with a matte finish; and vice versa if it's matte finish by default. That way I can choose which I want [assuming both finish types actually look good -- occasionally they don't translate to the "other" very well...looking at you mattified linear holos]. I especially like how well the magnetics show through to the top side doing it your way.
I love doing nail polish swatches! I’m actually doing some Death Valley Nails right now. 😂 Makes it so much easier to pick my colors and let my family pick without hauling out my whole nail polish stash. I use the round ones, organize by brand, and write on them in sharpie. I also do two nails for each color (three for magnetics so I can do one cat eye, one velvet, and one matte) and paint one with matte top coat so I can see what the colors look like mattified.
I only have 300 in my collection LOL. But I have done them both ways - one by rainbow order for all and also by brand. I found I prefer rainbow order not by brand because I was amazed by dupes or close colors. THAT was interesting!
I like that youre doing it that way for the magnetics, thats a good way to do it, I painted mine the conventional way because I want to be able to see the original finish first, to view it as if it had topcoat I just turn them over.

I know it's probably way late in your process to be suggesting this, but in regards to whether you're keeping the sticks in rainbow order or grouped by brand - it wouldn't be much more work to just do 2 swatches of each polish and keep them each way. Just print out the same label twice, do them at the same time, then you have a view of your collection each way handy. Easy to compare both within a single brand and across your entire collection very quickly. The brand ones can live in the drawer or one of the drawers that the bottles are in, and the rainbow one can stay out independently.
Great video series! I swatched my collection during covid when I was out of work for two months. Never thought of painting the underside 😜 what a time and top coat saver. Excited to see the rest! I’ve just started my Mooncat journey, I think I only have about 8 so far. Gorgeous shades ❤❤
Brilliant idea to paint the underside of clear swatch sticks. I have been using the opaque ones. Ever time I get a new polish, I swatch it, hand write the color and brand (along with any deviations from 2 coats with top coat). I then file them in the rings by color. I have

I like videos like these - calming, mesmerizing, and helpful when I can't remember what a color looks like out of the bottle. Thank you for committing to swatch all these again for your new series. Mooncat has amazing polishes. Their naming is a bit off, but the color combinations, scattered holo, glitters, and finishes are what makes me wish I owned all of these.

I've painted hundreds of swatch sticks and I've never once thought about painting them from the opposite side... This is brilliant! I don't know if I need to redo all my sticks or just start doing this with the new ones. (I never top coat my swatches)
I bought swatch sticks with the intend on doing this with all my polish. I have almost 1000 bottles. Various brands. You have given me hope. I didn't think about a label maker though, good idea
When you have a large collection, I recommend investing in a label-maker which can print wirelessly from your computer. I bought a Brother PT-D610 and it has saved me so much time for my polish labels. Also, because it takes a variety of tape widths, I've ended up using it for all sorts of things arounnd the house.
I JUST organized my polishes into some display tiers & picked up a bunch off-white opaque nail swatch sticks! I could have gotten the clear ones had I known you had a brilliant way to make them work better, LOL! But I plan to start swatching my polishes this coming weekend, after I finish organizing the rest of my computer corner. Thankfully I only have about 100 total between all the brands, so won't be quite as daunting a task.😅

I love swatchsticks! I use them to test polishes when I combine brands/colors to (crème base, jelly/holo/metallic/etc. on top of that for example)! This is a great addition to your channel! Love it!
Mad Hatter is the best polish of all time. My ex got it and a few others from the Alice collection for me for Christmas. He only started letting me paint my nails earlier last year, and only blacks and dark blues. No shimmers, maybe a matte if he was feeling bold. 😂 He took one look at that color in the bottle and said “I want THAT!” One Mad Hatter manicure changed him to a glitter and magnetic fiend, he only wants magnetic nails now, the more shimmer packed the better. Now he’s buying me so many new magnetic polishes so I can add to my collection and do his nails. That color is a true game changer.

I paint the top of the stick with the color, then I paint the underside 1/3 black and 1/3 white, and leave 1/3 without. Some of these polishes change SO much when over black or white that it’s really handy to have as a guide!

I really appreciate this, Kelli! My only suggestion, and when i do this swatching i also indicate how many coats i used because some need 3 and some don't. Dont know if you'll have room on the stick for that. Depends on how small you can get the font on your label maker.😊
Honestly I've found that I need a LOT more coats on the swatch sticks than my nails, I'm guessing because my nails are very short haha but some of these were five or six coats on the sticks and only two on my real nails so I decided not to note how many coats 😅😅
Omg, my label maker is the love of my life 🥰😅 Someone finally gifted me one after noticing I label everything & was just using a sharpie & tape. You may need to get a replacement cutter thing (the part that contains the razor) at some point bc it will dull over time (or perhaps v quickly in your situation lol) so I'd recommend knowing which part fits w/ your specific label maker & keep it in an Amazon wishlist. I can already feel that mine is getting dull.

I wish I could share with you my system for cataloging my swatch sticks. After around 1800 polishes, the rings got to be unwieldy... I switched to a tub from The Home Edit and they're hanging from rods that go across the top of the bin. Then again you have a much larger house than I do... So maybe you'll have more space to arrange your rings how you want ...
I don’t nearly have a collection your size but I use nail stick swatches. I find it satisfying and love referencing it. I always look forward to swatching a new polish and adding it to my ring.
For whatever coincidence I did the exact same thing last week. Online have less than 100 polishes total lol. I now wish I had painted the inside, that’s a great idea . Oh well!!! I wanted to be able to compare them so I don’t keep getting similar nail polish!

I am in the beginning of the video and firstly I screeched when I saw the title, secondly I was planning to do swatches on those nail sticks and painting the inside curve is absolutely GENIUS❣️❣️❣️
This is a project I’ve done haha it’s time consuming! But oddly relaxing. Also tip for the labels, especially now that you have a printer, if you don’t want to have to do as many on that little machine. You can make labels in Microsoft word (or Google doc I’m sure) and print them on label paper. I’ve done both the Avery 2” x 3” labels with 5 or 6 lines of names on them. Or just get a vinyl full sheet sticker and cut them all out. Just make sure if you get the full sheet it’s vinyl that works for your printer. It’s much better than the paper sticker sheets.

I swatch every polish I purchase straight away. It gives me an idea how it applies and what it really looks like before I put it on. Plus it creates this nice inventory. I only have around 1,000 polishes so not nearly as many as you have though. I am a Sinful Colors, ILNP and Mooncat FIEND! Thanks for the video - so enjoyable to watch.
Oh this is also a really good idea if you decide to ever do comparison videos :) I only swatch my Zoya as thats my largest collection and obsession. Oh I should say that I did two coats on all swatches, that way I knew if it was sheer or not.
I found mooncat before you did, but I’m always excited to see videos on them and other indie polishes. I’ve got a nice sized collection, smaller than yours, but I can definitely see mine getting bigger lol. I used to use swatch sticks and did your trick for the underside but I never used them. I wanna get cabochons and glue them on.

I love this video! I’m a nail polish newb, but I’ve fallen head over heels into this new hyperfixation. My first Mooncats were Mercury’s Tears and A Midsummer’s Dream, and I wanted to see how long my mani would last - after three weeks without chipping, I finally gave in and removed it because I wanted to try a new shade 😂 I just picked up some new Mooncat, including Snake Charmer (RIP), but your video compelled me to order Velociraptor, Dragon Scales, and Supervillain, which were not at all on my radar, so thank you! I also picked up the same Amazon swatch sticks a week ago, and swatching and labelling is so satisfying. I am totally stealing your tip about painting the underside, and I’ve been having fun swatching some of my shifty toppers (like the Unicorn Skins) with different base colours and matte vs glossy. I’m glad I started cataloguing while I only have a few dozen polishes, but I am here for you making your way through your collection, and I’ve been having a blast going through your old videos as I learn about this whole new world 😊
This was honestly one of the most relaxing videos I've watched in a while; especially with the elevator music in the background. I'd watch every brand's swatch-a-thon that you'd be willing to do. I've also never used swatch sticks, but painting the underneath is genius.
I don’t understand how I can pass a polish up 100 times, but then you swatch it and I’m like “Oooo!! That’s so gorgeous! I need that one too!” (I sure am sad I missed the Hocus Pocus collection.)
OMG I never thought of swatching the INSIDE of the swatch nail on the stick! I have over 750 sticks lmao and this never occurred to me. It looks a lot neater and saves in top coat (though I just use cheap drug store brand for that). Hmmm... should I start doing this now, but that will mean newer swatches will look different... choices choices! Thank you for this video, it's relaxing and informative! ❤
The advantage to painting the top side of the sticks is that you see any texture or bumpiness, so will know to allow extra mani drying time for layers of top coat or glitter grabber. Also, some polishes look better without a glossy topcoat, imho (le.g. deliberately matte ones, dense flash reflective ones which look "sugary") - I wouldn't be able to see those effects if I painted the underside.

Oh wow! It's fun seeing some colors that must have been discontinued before I got into the brand! I have a decent amount of Mooncat, but I had never heard of some of the ones you swatched.
Ooh yeah I usually go for full collections but when I first tried them, I picked a random selection of older shades haha!
I love this cataloguing idea…I’m starting to get repeats and an excessive amount of polishes and it gets tough to remember what each one looks like! I think I need to do this same thing with my collection 🥰

This makes me want mooncat polishes 😅 but also I love the inclusivity of their website! Skin colors and varying nail lengths! That’s refreshing, especially because I’m a short nail girlie.
I don't like painting the underside because if I am heavy-handed it pools. Some sticks also have a weird crackling effect when it comes into contact with polish so there's some weird ripples in the stick surface. I just paint the top and look at the bottom if I want to see it shiny.
Also, I like doing magnetics in the 3-tier sticks so I can leave one unmagnetized, and one cat eye and one velvet.
P.S. I love this type of video... it doesn't necessarily make me want to go out and buy more polish, but it gives me that dopamine rush of looking at polish/doing my nails when I don't have the energy to do my nails for the 3rd time this week XD

i LOVE mooncat polishes including the bottle and logo design. thank you for doing this! they have such cool finishes and i also have really enjoyed their creme finishes as well
Like the idea of saving on top coat, but I opted to use my under side of the swatchsticks to showcase the "other" version: if the polish is a glossy by default, then the under side shows it with a matte finish; and vice versa if it's matte finish by default. That way I can choose which I want [assuming both finish types actually look good -- occasionally they don't translate to the "other" very well...looking at you mattified linear holos].
I especially like how well the magnetics show through to the top side doing it your way.
I love doing nail polish swatches! I’m actually doing some Death Valley Nails right now. 😂 Makes it so much easier to pick my colors and let my family pick without hauling out my whole nail polish stash. I use the round ones, organize by brand, and write on them in sharpie. I also do two nails for each color (three for magnetics so I can do one cat eye, one velvet, and one matte) and paint one with matte top coat so I can see what the colors look like mattified.
I only have 300 in my collection LOL. But I have done them both ways - one by rainbow order for all and also by brand. I found I prefer rainbow order not by brand because I was amazed by dupes or close colors. THAT was interesting!
I like that youre doing it that way for the magnetics, thats a good way to do it, I painted mine the conventional way because I want to be able to see the original finish first, to view it as if it had topcoat I just turn them over.

I know it's probably way late in your process to be suggesting this, but in regards to whether you're keeping the sticks in rainbow order or grouped by brand - it wouldn't be much more work to just do 2 swatches of each polish and keep them each way. Just print out the same label twice, do them at the same time, then you have a view of your collection each way handy. Easy to compare both within a single brand and across your entire collection very quickly. The brand ones can live in the drawer or one of the drawers that the bottles are in, and the rainbow one can stay out independently.
Great video series! I swatched my collection during covid when I was out of work for two months. Never thought of painting the underside 😜 what a time and top coat saver. Excited to see the rest! I’ve just started my Mooncat journey, I think I only have about 8 so far. Gorgeous shades ❤❤

Brilliant idea to paint the underside of clear swatch sticks. I have been using the opaque ones. Ever time I get a new polish, I swatch it, hand write the color and brand (along with any deviations from 2 coats with top coat). I then file them in the rings by color. I have

I've painted hundreds of swatch sticks and I've never once thought about painting them from the opposite side... This is brilliant! I don't know if I need to redo all my sticks or just start doing this with the new ones. (I never top coat my swatches)
Ooh you could always slowly replace them over time and just do the underside of new ones!

Yesss definitely recommend doing labels! I've seen people just write in marker but I know it can wipe off over time!
When you have a large collection, I recommend investing in a label-maker which can print wirelessly from your computer. I bought a Brother PT-D610 and it has saved me so much time for my polish labels. Also, because it takes a variety of tape widths, I've ended up using it for all sorts of things arounnd the house.
I did order one from Amazon. I know it's a Brother. Don't remember which model. I can't wait to get started
I JUST organized my polishes into some display tiers & picked up a bunch off-white opaque nail swatch sticks! I could have gotten the clear ones had I known you had a brilliant way to make them work better, LOL! But I plan to start swatching my polishes this coming weekend, after I finish organizing the rest of my computer corner. Thankfully I only have about 100 total between all the brands, so won't be quite as daunting a task.😅
It really is an enjoyable task! I popped on an audiobook and painted away haha. You'll have a fun weekend!

I love swatchsticks! I use them to test polishes when I combine brands/colors to (crème base, jelly/holo/metallic/etc. on top of that for example)! This is a great addition to your channel! Love it!

Mad Hatter is the best polish of all time. My ex got it and a few others from the Alice collection for me for Christmas. He only started letting me paint my nails earlier last year, and only blacks and dark blues. No shimmers, maybe a matte if he was feeling bold. 😂 He took one look at that color in the bottle and said “I want THAT!” One Mad Hatter manicure changed him to a glitter and magnetic fiend, he only wants magnetic nails now, the more shimmer packed the better. Now he’s buying me so many new magnetic polishes so I can add to my collection and do his nails. That color is a true game changer.
It's really a stunning polish, I don't blame him for having a change of heart haha!
Great video Kelli! You are a genius to swatch the underside of the swatch stick! It totally gave your polished the look of having top coat on them. I don’t have the clear swatch sticks but now I want them lol. I gave the whiteish ones.
The white ones are probably better for using less polish haha! These clear ones took forever to get opaque!
This series is going to be very dangerous for my pocketbook, but totally worth the temptation to see all the great colors.

I paint the top of the stick with the color, then I paint the underside 1/3 black and 1/3 white, and leave 1/3 without. Some of these polishes change SO much when over black or white that it’s really handy to have as a guide!

I really appreciate this, Kelli! My only suggestion, and when i do this swatching i also indicate how many coats i used because some need 3 and some don't. Dont know if you'll have room on the stick for that. Depends on how small you can get the font on your label maker.😊
Honestly I've found that I need a LOT more coats on the swatch sticks than my nails, I'm guessing because my nails are very short haha but some of these were five or six coats on the sticks and only two on my real nails so I decided not to note how many coats 😅😅
I use little succulent pots with rice, and small spoon-shaped sticks, like lollipops. But I need a label maker now!

Omg, my label maker is the love of my life 🥰😅 Someone finally gifted me one after noticing I label everything & was just using a sharpie & tape.
You may need to get a replacement cutter thing (the part that contains the razor) at some point bc it will dull over time (or perhaps v quickly in your situation lol) so I'd recommend knowing which part fits w/ your specific label maker & keep it in an Amazon wishlist. I can already feel that mine is getting dull.

I wish I could share with you my system for cataloging my swatch sticks. After around 1800 polishes, the rings got to be unwieldy... I switched to a tub from The Home Edit and they're hanging from rods that go across the top of the bin. Then again you have a much larger house than I do... So maybe you'll have more space to arrange your rings how you want ...
I don’t nearly have a collection your size but I use nail stick swatches. I find it satisfying and love referencing it. I always look forward to swatching a new polish and adding it to my ring.
For whatever coincidence I did the exact same thing last week. Online have less than 100 polishes total lol. I now wish I had painted the inside, that’s a great idea . Oh well!!! I wanted to be able to compare them so I don’t keep getting similar nail polish!

This is a project I’ve done haha it’s time consuming! But oddly relaxing.
Also tip for the labels, especially now that you have a printer, if you don’t want to have to do as many on that little machine. You can make labels in Microsoft word (or Google doc I’m sure) and print them on label paper. I’ve done both the Avery 2” x 3” labels with 5 or 6 lines of names on them. Or just get a vinyl full sheet sticker and cut them all out. Just make sure if you get the full sheet it’s vinyl that works for your printer. It’s much better than the paper sticker sheets.

I swatch every polish I purchase straight away. It gives me an idea how it applies and what it really looks like before I put it on. Plus it creates this nice inventory. I only have around 1,000 polishes so not nearly as many as you have though. I am a Sinful Colors, ILNP and Mooncat FIEND! Thanks for the video - so enjoyable to watch.
Oh this is also a really good idea if you decide to ever do comparison videos :) I only swatch my Zoya as thats my largest collection and obsession. Oh I should say that I did two coats on all swatches, that way I knew if it was sheer or not.

I’ve got a nice sized collection, smaller than yours, but I can definitely see mine getting bigger lol. I used to use swatch sticks and did your trick for the underside but I never used them. I wanna get cabochons and glue them on.

My first Mooncats were Mercury’s Tears and A Midsummer’s Dream, and I wanted to see how long my mani would last - after three weeks without chipping, I finally gave in and removed it because I wanted to try a new shade 😂
I just picked up some new Mooncat, including Snake Charmer (RIP), but your video compelled me to order Velociraptor, Dragon Scales, and Supervillain, which were not at all on my radar, so thank you! I also picked up the same Amazon swatch sticks a week ago, and swatching and labelling is so satisfying. I am totally stealing your tip about painting the underside, and I’ve been having fun swatching some of my shifty toppers (like the Unicorn Skins) with different base colours and matte vs glossy. I’m glad I started cataloguing while I only have a few dozen polishes, but I am here for you making your way through your collection, and I’ve been having a blast going through your old videos as I learn about this whole new world 😊

This was honestly one of the most relaxing videos I've watched in a while; especially with the elevator music in the background. I'd watch every brand's swatch-a-thon that you'd be willing to do. I've also never used swatch sticks, but painting the underneath is genius.

OMG I never thought of swatching the INSIDE of the swatch nail on the stick! I have over 750 sticks lmao and this never occurred to me. It looks a lot neater and saves in top coat (though I just use cheap drug store brand for that). Hmmm... should I start doing this now, but that will mean newer swatches will look different... choices choices! Thank you for this video, it's relaxing and informative! ❤
The advantage to painting the top side of the sticks is that you see any texture or bumpiness, so will know to allow extra mani drying time for layers of top coat or glitter grabber. Also, some polishes look better without a glossy topcoat, imho (le.g. deliberately matte ones, dense flash reflective ones which look "sugary") - I wouldn't be able to see those effects if I painted the underside.
