Depends if you're party system is civil with each other. When you have 81 political parties you can't win the election without making a coalition with other political parties, and that means you'll have to compromise a lot of your campaign promises. Right now the ruling party is the VVD, which says it wants to restrict immigration to the Netherlands, but they are in a coalition with the PvdA, and the PvdA is a socialist party that is all for immigration. The result of this coalition is that every political party has not been able to do anything, because there are so many people in the government that there are disagreements about everything.
Andrew Jazdzyk There was a war technically because there was a battle, unless there has to be a certain amount of battles that are required before they can be considered a war or if it is formal declaration.... ugh... idk nvm.
I disagree about Cuba taking over Florida. If you research anything about the Seminole Wars Florida would have ended up as the only Native American Republic in the Americas. The Seminole Wars were extremely severe and expensive. Native Americans killed Ponce de Leon and the only reason Florida is today a part of the United States is because of heavy federal military spending. Just look at the history of every city in Florida named "Fort something": Fort Walton, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Kissimmee, Fort Meyers, Fort Meade, Fort Pierce, Fort Dallas (the previous name of Miami). These Forts were all built to fight the Seminoles.
This America's history resembles China's history. The Asian nations in this timeline would be weaker then in our timeline without American trade ending their isolationism.
In the end, they would of been subdued. They would of lasted much longer, but the reason they did so well for so long was because of the advantageous position, but also because the relative newness of Europeans on the land, they weren’t as established as they were for western Native American wars
AlternateHistoryHub if the federal government is non existing then states like Texas would eventually become super powers in their own way. New York would become a major player in European affairs and Florida might be part of some Latin American Empire.
By the way, Harry Turtledove writes some amazing books, there's one where Rome is reimagined as an empire that never died and exist currently in the age of Gunpowder.
Technically speaking, the Roman Empire lasted much longer than the fall of Rome in 476 AD. If you include direct living descendants/continuations, then the Eastern Roman Empire managed to last all the way to 1453 AD, when Constantinople finally fell to Ottoman rule. (Although it had become the "Byzantine Empire" by that point.) So that almost doubles the Romany goodness we have to explore in our own timeline :)
Well if the California Empire is managed anything close to like today ... they won't be able to manage themselves..... Also, if the U.S. didn't exist... how the hell do you exist as the U.S. had to go to war with Spain to get you?
Couldn't Britain by the Victorian era use this disunity to gobble up former territories via an invasion by Canada? They have the soldiers! They have the ships!
Or at the very least I see it having taken much of the plains and south that wasn't heavily populated. Plus I see other European empires having a try. The Spanish and Dutch empires were a little past their height but they might give it a go and the French might decide to settle more of their land as they would be less likely to sell it to the states with them divided. Plus the Mexicans might try to hang onto parts of California and Texas.
Otto Von Bismark True but seeing as the area didn't have much strategic value in the short term it might not have been invaded during the main Napoleonic wars and we'd be reluctant to start a new conflict with France after the alliance had already defeated Napoleon's supporters.
Keep in mind the British had vested interest of kicking the French out of North America, and were trying to encircle the ever expanding USA. But without the USA, who knows what might have happened. Maybe the states would fail in taking Tecumseh's confederacy, and Native tribes would still have their own countries.
if the us didn't survive, wouldn't the louisiana purchase not have been a thing? therefore it would be way less likely for american western expansion; wouldn't most of that land remain part of mexico?
Yeah, if I recall correctly, Napoleon stopped caring about land he held in North America and was pretty much like "Take it, for- uuuuhhh I don't know...fifteen million dollars? I don't care, I just want to get rid of this land at this point"
im not sure about mexico would no buy it because i think in that time mexico was under the control of spain i think so but if mexico was mexico it would have not bought it because they had to pay for a war of getting free from spain so i dont think it mexico would have bought lousiana purchase and france needed money to fight a war so rip france if the u.s didint exist
It's likely that the southern countries would have fought Spain for the land anyway and because Spain didn't give a flying fuck about their North American land anymore the countries would have gained the land becoming bigger. This would have caused a war between the countries and more would pop up. This would have continued for a long time. But eventually it is likely that the Central Northern Western Eastern and Southern countries would have formed at least some kind of peaceful relations and possibly form one country however if that happened the newly formed countries would have to form yet another kind f peaceful relations and this would include beneficial and crucial trade. They would eventually however form a new country all together because of how much they rely on each other and how much easier it would be to have one central government for trade and relations both within the continent and with the world allies. Therefor eventually the US would be formed it's just likely the world would be the same. The US has pretty much been the peace keeper in the world since we formed a reliable and stable government.
Pretty interesting, but there's no way that we'd fail to understand other states as a result of linguistic differences. After all, we can pretty reasonably understand Australians and the British.
All except for a few terms that would need a bit of an explanation to make sense to us. It would mostly be difficulty understanding the various phrases each region came up with on their own, but yeah, it would still be like comparing American English to British English.
What if English never became the dominant language, though? Entire states could adopt Italian, Gaelic, Romanian, etc depending on where their citizens emigrated from.
@@EddieAtTheMorgue A good portion of Louisiana speaks French and it's the 3rd most taught language in schools behind spanish and english. I see what you mean though.

This one seems to gloss over a pretty important factor: the fact that the U.S. only managed to colonize much of the west as effectively as it did with the use of its not-small army. Something tells me the various native American groups butchered/put on rez's by the army would have a pretty different role in these various, smaller states
The video clearly stated that the western states were conquered by larger powers. I am not saying this is a likely or properly explained scenario, but even poor states fighting each other would have expanded at a slower rate, as far as their economies/manpower could take them.
The problem is that Facism might never exist, without the US's help in WW1, the Allies either a.) wouldn't have destroyed Germany as bad as they did, or B.) possibly wouldn't have won at all, meaning no fall of the German Monarchy, which means No Economic downfall of Germany, Which means no Hitler.
No Russia sold Alaska to do the US so that there would be a buffer between them and the British Empire. They wouldn't sell it to the UK. The UK may have taken it, but it would never have been sold to them.
Jack Parker Britain wouldn’t buy it they’d invade it, that’s why the russians were scared, they couldn’t hold onto the territory, so they sold it to the britishes enemy(the US)
Mainly because the government had to step in and stop Ohio and Michigan from going to war over Toledo. Ohio got Toledo, while Michigan got the U.P. In this scenario I see Ohio getting Toledo first and holding onto it, but with Virginia having a rivalry with Ohio, I could see a Michigan/Virginia alliance to take them out. Also I am from Michigan as well.
Mister Brick Lol thats because USA A good argument could be made that Germany would win WW1 and yes I know we joined late but without the full support from US do u really believe The Allies would have a chance against the most advanced country at the time along with Italy and the Ottomans?

I have enjoyed Harry T 's books for years. Nice to see you doing a video about one. I was able to meet him at a convention 1 time. He is also a great speaker.
I believe Mexico would have kept most of the west coast since there was no US to lose them to. Everything from Texas to Oregon would still be Spanish America for a long time. Just like France would probably keep its hold on the Mississipi river for a longer time, so there would probably be a number of francophone nations from Quebec to Louisiana.

Mexico would keep Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, as well as parts of California and Nevada. They would be the main power in North America and would build a wall to keep out American migrants, and no, not because they discriminate Americans.
Otto Von Bismark not neccessarily. the second french intervension had two powerful reasons to be: one, Napoleon III wanted territory in America, wishing to have a base of operations against USA and sphere of influence in America. with the French Louisiana in their control, and the USA being a non-existant country, France wouldn't need Mexico. number two, some mexicans appealed to Napoleon's wife. but as they have territory in America, again, they wouldn't have a need for Mexico. since USA doesn't exist, no powerful country would go to Texas help. in fact, there wouldn't be American migrants with a sense of Union to start the Texan-Mexican War of Independence which, by the way, wouldn't destabilize Mexico and ita politics. without USA, Mexico would have grow to a Major Power
No the Texans would still have probably won the war, just longer and more hard fought. Not to mention that Mexico would still be forced to accept thousands of colonists into their territories, as they didn't have the resources to protect themselves from illegal immigration.
The Mexican equivalent of Donald Trump would quote "I will build a great wall on our northern border and I will make the Americans pay for it" while calling them rapists and criminals.

This was a really good video. Could you expand more on it? Like a mini series about wars, relations, and other countries outside of the continent interacting with these states?
Its too expensive to run 52 states ,with only few high tech states running the whole USA economy and paying higher taxes to compensate for lower tax states. If you combine all mid west states into one, all Southern states into one, West coast states into one, East coast states into one. it will simple to run USA easily, and Federal election will be cheaper to run and the Election day will finish in 4 hours instead of whole day (few governers, senates, to run those combine states)
Include the us virgin islands = 50+US occupied islands + Peru = 52 or 53 states. Few high tech states + farming states +Islands = very expensive to run and maintain your fake rich life style. MORON
Speaking of Turtledove, can you do a video about the Southern Victory Series? It pretty much covers almost a century's worth of alternate history such as the CSA winning the war, the Monarchy remaining in power in Mexico, the Central Powers winning World War One (or The First Great War as it is called), Quebec gaining independence, Canada annexed by the United States, Communism never rising, and so on and so forth. You really need to do a video on this Cody.
CaptainZapperz Texas either american, mexican or independent is cool, 7 different flags over that state tells a lot of its rich history, greets from mexico city man
You'd think that in this scenario with all these disunited states, someone like Mexico or a European power in the area like England or Spain would have just invaded?
Johan Aanvik that's possible, but like the video said some of these states absolutely hated each other so maybe some states would side with the invaders in the hope of fighting and beating their enemy states.
Ryu Hiroshi Many of the countries of Europe hated each other but they united to help each other in the crusades against the Muslims so it is very likely.

You honestly don't think they'd rebel? Mexico rebelled against spain, the US v UK french caribbean colonies v france. Colonialism simply isn't sustainable over long periods. Jefferson bought the Louisiana territory from France because they were at war and couldn't keep funneling money. The bottom line is a few might stay united to their parent country but they vast majority would rebel and claim independence. I live in Missouri and if some Frenchman started trying to tax me to fund some European war they were currently engaged in you can bet your bottom dollar me and my friends would grab a musket and tell them to head on home.
INCUBO175 I doubt it really. Back then Los Angeles had maybe 300 citizens and Spain was in dire financial straights. Americans kept pushing west almost instinctively displacing other people's for land to call their own. Texas rebelled against Mexico and claimed it's independence for that very reason. Mexicans and Spaniards weren't moving into the areas but white settlers were. 20 dudes with one hatchet and a mean look could have successfully started their own revolution against Spain as they were too weak to do anything about it at that point.
LUIS CARLOS Olano USA based on tech but if we set them in 500 B.C. I take Rome since they are bigger and would have to train more elite soldiers since ours rely on guns and bombs while theirs are Spears and arrows although we would be smarter which could cause an upset. Idk two different empires from different ages is a hard one.
First of all are you thinking of the actual Roman Empire because they Holy Roman Empire wasn't larger than the US and its inhabitants were just a bunch of Germanic pagans in 500 BC. who were warring with the actual Roman Empire. The Holy Roman Empire was founded 1438 years after 500 BC in 962 AD and its troops were no where near as elite as those of the Roman Empire. The Holy Roman empire would lose because they were barley a united country and more of a union of states that even warred with each other so they didn't have the means to fight a unified nation the size and population of the US and they wouldn't have the logistical knowledge to combat a modern nation, plus they didn't have a professional army they had some well trained knights and a bunch of plebs from the farmsteads. The US would only have to kill the emperor to win anyway as seen during a crusade when the current emperor drowned after falling into a stream (not even a deep one you could stand up in it easily) so his army just went home.
Yog Sothoth no the us didn't want to conquer British Canada they fought in the war because The British were giving weapons to the natives and attacking Americans
Warafare48 but I think British was in control because they did burn the us capital and the White House so if the us didn't stop the war Britain would have won it.
The destruction of the US capital was never a war goal for the British and Canadian forces. Our long term goals were defensive and the burning of the capital was designed as more of a symbolic message than anything of real strategic value.
Exactly. All the major European colonial powers would find a majority in some arbitrary area. So going from east to west -- New Holland would be Dutch, New England would be English, New France would be French, New Spain would be Spanish, and finally the Pacific Northwest under the Russian Empire would be Russian. Neo Europe...
essentially.. and ofc none of the now independent republics will ever be as prosperous or powerful as the US is in our timeline.. which is unfortunate for such a timeline.
Not A troll is he from Ohio himself because wasn't the flag shown quite a bit in the beginning (I myself am from Ohio, Franklin County to be a little more precise)
Green Man West Virginia wouldn't probably exist as it was carved from Virginia duriNg the war to be apart of the union. So that song probably wouldn't exist.
You probably would see some separatism in West Virginia, primarily due to the vast geographic barrier the Appalachian mountains present. It’d most likely be similar to the American Revolution, with discontent in the state over having to pay taxes to a far away (travel in ye old days took a long time, especially across a mountain chain) entity, for no real benefits (as most of the tax money from West Virginia would be spent in Virginia proper) I think in an alternate timeline, West Virginia would gain its independence from Virginia (although it would be far smaller than the modern boundaries, lacking the Eastern panhandle) and would most likely go under the new name of Kanawha (what West Virginia was originally intended to be called) TL;DR: COUNTRY ROADS, TAKE ME HOME

By the way, Harry Turtledove writes some amazing books, there's one where Rome is reimagined as an empire that never died and exist currently in the age of Gunpowder.
Who wouldnt want an empire who once had a horse as senate
That sounds cool. The story I mean, not if it happened. LOL

Charlemagne The King thats an excellent point

Not a Sage Yeah pretty much the Articles of Confederation would never allow the purchase but maybe another state would...
The breakup happened after the purchase
Pretty interesting, but there's no way that we'd fail to understand other states as a result of linguistic differences. After all, we can pretty reasonably understand Australians and the British.
All except for a few terms that would need a bit of an explanation to make sense to us. It would mostly be difficulty understanding the various phrases each region came up with on their own, but yeah, it would still be like comparing American English to British English.
I can barely understand deep south
chogathsnutsack I'm from the deep South and if you think we go around saying "Yu evr gun dun da bayou" you are mistaken

Pretty sure racism is going to be around as long as there are people.
Yeah but the severity of the racism and density of racists can definitely vary
The Narcissist or as long as we talk about race
S7Robin Yeah! If no one talks about race, then obviously racism magically disappears.
The same thing applies to other problems, as well.
Bottom line: Don't talk about a problem, and the problem will fix itself automatically.

You want to end racism? Then chill the fuck out and let the issue simmer down or you can keep stoking those flames and we can get more shit like Trump.

I am not saying this is a likely or properly explained scenario, but even poor states fighting each other would have expanded at a slower rate, as far as their economies/manpower could take them.
what if Fascism spreads to Russia instead of Communism? just an idea

Mark Nutt Communism is itself facism.
This means Alaska would be Russian, meaning Russia could very easily get to North America, and who knows what that could mean?
WitherTux No, Britain would buy Alaska and them would become part of Canada.

Otto Von Bismark Not Necessarily, the intervention could still fail, without the US.
Not Texas, they won their own independence war before anexing to the US
No the Texans would still have probably won the war, just longer and more hard fought. Not to mention that Mexico would still be forced to accept thousands of colonists into their territories, as they didn't have the resources to protect themselves from illegal immigration.

Ryu Hiroshi Well it could happen then that all states would work together too figh back against the invaders
Johan Aanvik that's possible, but like the video said some of these states absolutely hated each other so maybe some states would side with the invaders in the hope of fighting and beating their enemy states.

The Holy Roman Empire vs United States of America
How about the Jewish Zealots vs. The US.
Holy Roman Empire not the Roman.

What if the usa lost the war of 1812?
Or what if the US got pissed off and conquered all of Canada. America would have A LOT of room to move around for the coming centuries.
It did. Tactically it lost most of the battle and strategically it failed its war goals of conquering British Canada
This was very interesting. I think you're very accurate with your theory.
“We’re all messed up.”
Well I can’t argue with that...
Nice video. I like these kind of political videos especially when they are cartoonish
Lol Minnesota is just chilling like "what disunited states of America I don't see any difference.
And in this Turtledove timeline, Sir Wilfred Laurier’s pronouncement that “The 20th Century belongs to Canada” is quite accurate.
you will pay heavy prices for my potatoes.
rockets don't make good toast...
How do you toast a rocket XD
Hello Idaho!!
So.... Europe?
Lord of Wankery No it's just a whole bunch of countries.
.......Think about what you just said. Really think.
Lord of Wankery Yeah pretty much
That moment when you see your state's flag.
Go Maryland, Ayyyyyyyyyeee.
You deserve it. God bless the MRO

Virginiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaa
Green Man West Virginia wouldn't probably exist as it was carved from Virginia duriNg the war to be apart of the union.
So that song probably wouldn't exist.
It’s not the same :(
How about sweet Virginia
Western Virginia!
You probably would see some separatism in West Virginia, primarily due to the vast geographic barrier the Appalachian mountains present. It’d most likely be similar to the American Revolution, with discontent in the state over having to pay taxes to a far away (travel in ye old days took a long time, especially across a mountain chain) entity, for no real benefits (as most of the tax money from West Virginia would be spent in Virginia proper)
I think in an alternate timeline, West Virginia would gain its independence from Virginia (although it would be far smaller than the modern boundaries, lacking the Eastern panhandle) and would most likely go under the new name of Kanawha (what West Virginia was originally intended to be called)
TL;DR:
COUNTRY ROADS, TAKE ME HOME
