I think you shouldn't have lied about your Puerto Rico Poll results. The Incorporated Territory of PR is split near 50/50 on being a state and stating where they are as a majority want statehood is the most uninformed "fact" I've ever seen on this channel. If you look at the two main political parties in Puerto Rico, PPD (Popular Democratic Party (47% of the vote, wants to be a unincorporated territory), against the the PNP (New Progressive Party, want's to be a state, 47% of the vote) are split evenly, roughly 47%/47%. You cherry picked a election which the PNP BOYCOTTED! From Wikipedia "Those who voted overwhelmingly chose statehood by 97%. This figure is attributed to a boycott led by the pro-status quo PPD party, which resulted in a 22.93% turnout." Read Wikipedia, I'm commenting on a video with 1.1 million subs and I know more then you... Let that sink in. Edit: One last thing to say to Americanize this. PR Statehood is a very partisan battle, think MSNBC vs FOX but a hell of a lot more on the line on this island. Anyone reading this I'd highly encourage reading about the history of statehood in PR. PR has advantages for not being a state and advantages for being one. It's quite complex and of course it all comes down to money. Please look this up.
Who lied, Balljoint? Maybe if you actually listened to the video you would not have needed to post that long comment. He stated very clearly in the video that only 23% of people voted in that referendum that found 97% support for statehood.

Another interesting fact about the United States Virgin Islands. It's the only part that America has where you drive on the opposite side of the road versus any State, Territory, or our Federal District.
Yes, it is the only place in the world where they drive on the left side of the world (Left-Hand Traffic) and the majority of vehicles are Left-Hand Drive. Denmark used to be a Right-Hand Drive country back in 1917 when they sold the Virgin Islands to the US. Over time, residents found it much less expensive to buy LHD cars from the US mainland than continue importing RHD vehicles from Europe. For some odd reason, they did not switch to RHT (Right-Hand Traffic) as every other RHD nation has done when they switched from RHD to LHD vehicles.

It actually makes sense, for although _Dixie_ is often associated with rebels and traitors in the South, the United States government and military used some variants of _Dixie_ in their war against said rebels and traitors. One variant includes the line "The Stars and Stripes forever!", the title to a later famous American march: "On! ye patriots to the battle, Hear Fort Moultrie's cannon rattle! Then away, then away, then away to the fight! Go meet those Southern traitors, With iron will. And should your courage falter, boys, Remember Bunker Hill. Hurrah! Hurrah! The Stars and Stripes forever! Hurrah! Hurrah! Our Union shall not sever!" Another variant, called _Union_ _Dixie,_ references American personification and future recruitment poster Uncle Sam: "Away down South in the land of traitors, Rattlesnakes and alligators, Right away, come away, right away, come away. Where cotton's king and men are chattels, Union boys will win the battles, Right away, come away, right away, come away. Then we'll all go down to Dixie, Away, away, Each Dixie boy must understand That he must mind his Uncle Sam." For more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixie_(song)#Lyrics
@Zachary Rugar I was not calling _all_ Southerners traitors, but rather, those Southerners who supported the Confederate States. Even during the American Civil War, some Southerners supported the Union. For instance, Andrew Johnson was Lincoln's vice president in 1865, even though Johnson's home state of Tennessee was a Confederate state. In fact, some Southern states did not secede from the Union (Maryland, for instance), while some parts of the Confederacy seceded from the Confederacy to rejoin the United States (West Virginia). Later, the South became less and less Confederate as slavery and racism became more condemned, to the point that a common political/cultural question in the South asks if Confederate monuments (statues, streets, state flags, and so forth) should be removed. I hope this clarifies my use of the word "traitor".

@Zachary Rugar I am not trying to pick a side in the whole "should we have monuments to the Confederates" thing, but I was just trying to demonstrate how much some Southerners opposed the Confederacy, then and now. The guy narrating the video doesn't know a lot of things. Take for example what he said about Chicago. He said that a very, very, very small number of politically motivated people in Illinois want to break away from Chicago. They are not a very, very very small number of people. Illinois is a large state and the MAJORITY of the rural and semi rural areas are conservatives who are sick to death of having their voices drowned out by the densely populated and crime ridden residents of Chicago who have time and time again voted for the MOST CORRUPT LEFT WING POLITICIANS anywhere in the US. I completely sympathize with those living outside of Chicago as their voices have been ignored for over 5 DECADES by those living in the city. Time and time again those DEMOCRATS voted into power by the RESIDENTS OF CHICAGO have proven themselves to be an EXTREMELY CORRUPT lot. I fully support Chicago going their own CORRUPR way so they can allow the rest of the state of Illinois to live the lives they've craved FOR DECADES under a Conservative government with Conservative valued and ideals. The reason the left and Democrats want to abolish the Electoral College and turn to popular vote method for elections is so that the populous and VERY DEMOCRAT states and cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago and Washington can elect Chicago style CORRUPT DEMOCRATS to rule over the entire US for all time. The Constitution would soon be a thing of the past and the FASCISTIC style of governing you are seeing now in states like New York, California, Illinois and Michigan under the pretence of "the Coronavirus" would be the norm. Under no circumstances should the citizens of the US ever allow the CORRUPT DEMOCRATS from abolishing the Electoral College as they would be living under nothing short of a DEMOCRAT DICTATORSHIP. The first things to go would be the First Amendment closely followed by the First Amendment and soon after that all God given rights guaranteed under the Constitution as it stands today. I fully support the rest of Illinois wanting to make Chicago its own state as they are currently living under a system that would be the norm if the Electoral College was ever abolished and replaced by a popular vote advocated by the CORRUPT DEMOCRATS and the Left.
I think he meant battle. People outside the US see Pearl Harbor as a seminal event, so many times they will see it as more of a distinct event than Americans.
June Hollybell no, we didn’t own it completely. It was a colony made by the USA for former black slaves who didn’t know where in Africa they were from specifically. This was during a time when abolitionists didn’t know what to do with the freed slaves so they thought it would be best to just send them back to Africa. A similar thing happened in Britain with Sierra Leone. A few decided to go but the majority wanted to stay in America so the movement mostly failed. The US never actually owned Liberia either, as it was founded by Americans and backed by America but was technically its own country. We retained a close relationship though and it’s the reason we were allowed in the Berlin conference when Africa was carved up
Chicago cannot become a state as it would be a loophole in Constitution. Article 4 Specifically states that no state can be created within a state which means no city within a state may become a separate state
Interesting! Although I keep hearing there is some kind of loophole where California and Texas can separate into multiple states. I'm from Chicago, and I think it's weird to think people want it its own separate state. I guess I get it, but it's weird.
Look, i'm no American, but about DC, I believe the best solution is to update the special status of the Federal District, while giving statehood powers but not being considering of proper state. Here in Brasil the capital, Brasilia have a special status in the federation, it acts more as state-municipality, it has its own government, Governo do Distrito Federal - GDF, elects its own Districtal Governor, Districtal Deputies and for the National Congress it ellects its own Federal Deputies and Senators, but it does not have the constitutional right to have other municipalities divided into, unlike states, it has "Administrative Regions" for census purposes. So, the name of the Federative Unit is Distrito Federal, where is located Administrative Region I - Brasilia, also know as "Plano Piloto" for the city inaugurated in April, 21 1960 for the sole purpose of being the capital of Brazil, transferring from the City of Rio de Janeiro, at the time located in the Federal District. Note: Brazil does not have county equivalent, states are directly divided into municipalities and their executive branch is called "Prefecture".
I live in DC that will not happen. Congress will not let it go through. Even if 100% of the population wanted statehood and voted for it. Congress will, is and has blocked it.
Correction- Virginia took their portion back which is why Washington, DC looks like a square which is cut off on one corner. That missing corner is the portion on the other side of the Potomac River in Virginia.
My hot take is that the parts of DC people actually live in should be given back to Maryland. Then there should be a jerrymandered federal-controlled area that only covers the biggest government buildings, monuments, and museums, but that nobody actually lives in. Then, you make Puerto Rico either a state or independent, then either take the Pacific Islands and fuse them into a state, or, with Hawaii's permission, fuse them all into a Greater U.S Pacific State.
DC should have remained federal land for federal purposes only. People decided to move into a place with no representation (as it was intended by design) whose only inhabitants should have been transient senators/representatives with their entourage who would all have other permanent residences.
When I lived in New York City many years ago, there was a show on our PBS station called "The 51st State", which implies to me that back then, to some people anyway, the question was already settled...

Excellent idea for the pacific islands. What about adding PR and the VI to Florida, perhaps after splitting Florida in two and adding the northern 2/3's to Georgia.
I mean, Puerto Rico had been offered statehood multiple times by the mainland US, while Puerto Rico has never requested it, so it seems the mainland prioritizes Puerto Rican statehood more than Puerto Rico itself
L P the pacific islands wouldn’t want to be united like that although it’s a cool idea. We should merge the Mariana islands with Guam and create the state of Guam and American Samoa should join Samoa and create the state of Samoa. We should ask the UK and France if we can purchase their islands in the pacific and we should ask the independent countries of the pacific if they want to become a state

States are added 2 at a time. Each state representative of one party. There will never be a 51st state, without a 52nd as well. DC is by design via the constitution a district never to be a state. Puerto Rico, and Guam would be my guess.
Well, that’s how we like to think. But I could see some unprecedented single-state upset happening, as nothing is really off the table. In history, that was just because of slavery, not parties. In fact, I can’t remember a time that it was because of party lines. Just because that was the norm in the past, doesn’t mean that it’ll be the norm going forwards. I personally think that Puerto Rico has been gaining steam recently.
There are a few ways a state can become a state. Technically, there is nothing stopping single-add states; but yes, politically, adding solidly red or blue states is a high hurdle. However, it is far easier to add a state like Puerto Rico through the actual state-add mechanisms in federal policy than a change of designation through constitutional amendment, which would be necessary to tackle much of the DC situation (simple majorities versus 2/3rd vote).

This figure is attributed to a boycott led by the pro-status quo PPD party, which resulted in a 22.93% turnout."
Read Wikipedia, I'm commenting on a video with 1.1 million subs and I know more then you...

"Away down South in the land of traitors,
Rattlesnakes and alligators,
Right away, come away, right away, come away.
Where cotton's king and men are chattels,
Union boys will win the battles,
Right away, come away, right away, come away.
Then we'll all go down to Dixie,
Away, away,
Each Dixie boy must understand
That he must mind his Uncle Sam."

Some like the Confederacy, some dislike the Confederacy, and some _really_ dislike the Confederacy in a way that the other two call "too much". Also, have I just been red-baited? This conversation/argument/thing is getting very silly!

@@ryanhouk3560 .... Wait we "own" Liberia? I honestly didn't know we had anything in Africa
@@Pwn3dbyth3n00b The GOP would never let it happen. DC would surely elect Democratic senators and representatives.

I think that Puerto Rico should be a state. I also think that Guam and the northern Marianas should form together a new state
Correction- Virginia took their portion back which is why Washington, DC looks like a square which is cut off on one corner.
Nice Try !!! It will never happen !!! Any of what you presented !!! Way too Complicated !!!
DC should have remained federal land for federal purposes only. People decided to move into a place with no representation (as it was intended by design) whose only inhabitants should have been transient senators/representatives with their entourage who would all have other permanent residences.

@@nahueldiaz7572 Check your facts. Hawaii became a state only after the majority of the population was overwhelmingly white. The native population of Hawaii became a minority in their own land.
As a Puerto Rican who was born, raised and currently lives in Puerto Rico, I can safely say that it makes absolutely zero sense for Puerto Rico to become a state. Independence makes far more sense, both for us and the US. But having people's minds colonized for over 500 years is, I think, why you don't see it talked about more.
I think the pacific islands should unite and apply for state OR join Hawaii. As for Puerto Rico, statehood is possible but not a priority of mainland us
Excellent idea for the pacific islands.
We should ask the UK and France if we can purchase their islands in the pacific and we should ask the independent countries of the pacific if they want to become a state
@@goldenrepublic6848 seems like a good idea except the Samoa part - Samoa is an independent country. Unless we're going to take over an independent nation solely to make a state when we already can make a state, it's pointless. It's also against international law

I’m from western Illinois and I sure as hell want Chicago to leave.
Konrad Pogorzelski all the state’s attention is given to Chicago. My town has a school that is in desperate need of repair, and since our town has a pretty low income, people aren’t too inclined to raise their taxes by $100s a month. The state could jump in and pay for it, but NO, they would rather put their money in Chicago instead of a small farm town. Im fine if the state puts more money into Chicago then the rest of Illinois, but I just don’t want nearly all of it to go to Chicago.

Berlin is a suitable federal state just like Hamburg and Bremen.
It is therefore one of the 16 German federal states.
There is a proposal to have the important government buildings be the actual capital while making the rest of the city become a state.
There are no Republican wannabe states, so the others will just have to wait.
