Basic tip is to surf as far forward on the dolphin as possible, but slightly further back on the shark. NB Do NOT use the dolphin's blow hole as a finger or toe hold.

It’s called Narval and a 3/2. I’d say no zip would be more difficult for a 5mm. No doubt.
Sand doesn't bother you?
Dry sand usually spills out of the wetsuit easier versus wet sand.
