    I have to chime in and say that not only is Doug a great guitarist, he is one heck of an awesome person. Several years ago we met a few of the guys from Whitesnake (all of them were really nice), and my kid who was about 10 at the time asked Doug if he had a guitar pick on him. Doug checked his pockets and didn't have one, but excused himself and left for a few minutes. He went on to the tour bus and came back with a guitar pick which he gave to my kid, and my kid smiled and thanked him. We had the pick framed and it has been hanging up in his practice room since. Doug rocks!

    I had the pleasure of meeting Doug, I won a Marshall amp and he presented me with it, after he had shredded in my face for 2 hours at a guitar masterclass at my local store.. He is literally one of the most humble, cool and awesome guys ive ever met!!

      solid state or tube? sounds SS to me. had a 100w MG series and it developed issues. loud but never had the tube tone I like. Got a SS Carvin and SS fender but they sound tubey.

    • @Juicexlx

      @@therightisright8276 4 EL34 tubes in the power section. The preamps are digital, but made by Swedish DSP Soft Tube company, so it's not cheap emulation. This amps is the real deal in good hands that is...But yeah. Like Alex said. There's one used JMD:1 102 (2X12 combo) with footswitch included for 750$ CAN. Bwahaha! Keep the hate up! I'm getting my grubby hands on that puppy today. Emulates the JVM410 Clean and OD2 + JCM 800 dirt. It's got 2X12''AX75 speakers stock (Marshall version of GT12-75). The next thing I'll do, is hunt-down old 12'' Vintage 30.

    I’ve had many Marshals in my time and I settled on one of these about 6 years ago, and I have to be honest it’s one of the best Amos I’ve ever had and would not change it, turn it up through a 4x12 and it rocks, being programmable too makes it sooo versatile 🤟

    The technology and materials used in the JMD-1 are FAR above what's used for the MG all-solidstate series(and has evolved quite a bit from the ValveState series), and comparing the 2 is illogical...different pricepoints and target user groups. I'm considering picking up the 100-watt version(a 50w would work fine, but prefer having the extra capability for different venues) Appreciate the demo given by Doug Aldrich, hell of a talent and all-around nice guy....thanks to MusicRadarTV!.

    Don't be fooled ... i have played this amp !! and it sounds DAMN good !!
    i have owned many Marshall's over the years , and currently still own a 6100 Anniversary , and the 800 preamp setting on this JMD1 was just killer !!

    no by populating I mean inserting the individual electronic components. Mesa is one of the few companies that actually placing all the small individual electronic components onto the circuit boards here in the USA. Marshall, Vox and many other companies have their circuit boards assembled in china and sent to the UK to have the boards inserted into their amps at the factory. This way they can still say they're made in the UK but only partially.

    it sounds great, if you can´t play guitar or don´t have skills don´t blame it to the amp... "haters" are mediocre players often...

  • @russellhamner5150
    @russellhamner5150 3 года назад +2

    It’s a digital modeling preamp, on top of an ecc83/12ax7 preamp tube, going into 4 el34s. Its a real Marshall tube amp with a plexi , JVM 410, JCM 2000, JMP1, 1974, JCM 800, JVM 410H, mode 4, and more... it’s a punishing loud, quality Marshall sound x 16 ghost heads that in my opinion equal any reissue quality sound. Don’t know about yours but mine is a play along with the radio beast

    Doug's the perfect player to demonstrate anything really.But he really does a grea tjob doing the demo's for Marshall. This sounds like a cool amp.A SS pre amp & a tube power amp. Tubes in the power section give you that big wallop.If the amp emulations are any good, this looks promising.Doug brings good credibility. I will check this one out.

    I have my 50w JMD for several months now, honestly… I got rid of 59HW Plexi and a JCM800 + my 900. This is the only amp in my rig and with all due respect, if you put in the hours dialing in these tones, you can get it where you want it. Admittedly if you run a cheap Ibanez or Jackson through it your going to assume the worst. Comes down to your pickup quality! Also? To the neigh sayers moaning about that digital modulation and effects… Get a grip! I guarantee you probably run a couple of digital effects in your board, BOSS absolutely crushed it in the 80s with digital stuff, plenty of icons used them. + Don’t think it’s ‘Marshall’ enough? That’s probably because you’re a bedroom player and you haven’t turned the master up to 10, when those valves get real hot I think you’ll be surprised as to what you hear. Mind you were probably to naive and got rid of the amp years ago, bottom line is it sounds great and if you don’t think it does crack on with your life and stop bad mouthing it, you obviously cared about it enough to check this video out 😂✌️

    I've been a Luthier & Tech since 1980. I have taken apart amps and effects that have travel 50,000 miles in a year. I see what fucks up. I've had to replace all the tube sockets on Dual recto's. Death used to tour the planet using crappy MG series Marshall's.I asked Shannon Hamm why they used them & he told me they never crapped out. They had amps that were on 4 tours & still worked fine. Until you've taken this amp out on a world tour, save judgement.

Just think how the Marshall super lead is going to sound. In Manuel mode it bypass the digital path and uses the tubes only.Best possible sound.

    the marshall boards are still mostly populated in china and then put into the chassis/headshell and transformers added in UK. Same with Vox and Peavey.
    I think mesa is the last USA company actually populating their boards and building EVERYTHING from scratch in USA

    Fuck all the haters... I have had a few Marshall amps in my time on this planet and let me tell all you fuckin cork sniffers out there that this thing kicks ass...to be able to switch between crystal cleans and super distortion tones with chorus and delay built in?..FUCK YEAH!!.. And the price point is incredible!! So go buy your $4000 klon centaur with your $50,000 dumble...I'd rather be doing gigs with this...What the fuck is it with guitarists anyway?.. I have seriously considered getting a T-shirt that says " GUITARISTS... PROUDLY FEARING CHANGE SINCE 1959"..embrace technology my friends, its there.. Take advantage of it...90 % of tone is in your hands so when you say this amp or this guitar sucks, take a look in the mirror... That is all...P.S Doug Aldrich fuckin rocks...

      Tboys rocknroll Nice try dude. REALLY! LOL The bottom line is, this thing sounds like SHIT. It's not being stuck in the past or being a "Boutique gear snob"/ Corksniffer. I played one of these at length with an open mind hoping that it might fulfill many tone chores under one roof, but thing sounds sterile, wooden and one dimensional. I've owned Crate combo amps from the 90s that blow this thing outta the water. And it's because of ONE simple, but crucial factor. Digital front-end vs Analog. I suppose some kid in high school would love this because he has not a lot of experience with truly wonderful gear, but for the rest of us, this thing is just another in the long line of Marshall products that dissapoint, rather than inspire. There's a reason Solano, VHT, Bogner, Mesa, Egnator, Peavey, Randall, Friedman, etc have taken over the High-End amp market from Marshall. And it's products like this that do nothing to improve their name in the marketplace. It's not being a Hater, moron. It's called being intelligent and honest.

    One small admission, though, I think that the pick ups in the guitar has a lot to do with the attitude the amp is able to carry out. So add the reality that the guitars ability by it self has a lot to do with the fact your can play or you cant. Pick ups and amps hold the real mastery of tone for those who play as a life style.

    Depends on the model. Their higher end stuff is made in the UK, the Terror series and the little solid state ones are made in china.
    There are regulations around how a maker can label manufacture. The Americans are quite slack and finishing can be labelled 'made in' this isn't as easy to get away with in the OK.

      100W head/100W combo with 2X12/50W combo with 1X12. A used, 2X12 100W combo are hard to find, but best deal as you get the cab with it.
      Maybe switch the AX75 Marshall speakers for Vintage 30, Greenbacks or Celestion Gold. Also buy an attenuator, because it might not be apparent in this video, but these Marshall are ear damage Inc. as all Marshall are. Your neighbours will call the police!

    • @ReductioAdAbsurdum
      @ReductioAdAbsurdum 10 лет назад

      "is it strictly a loud amp to get any tone at all"
      Dude, it's a modelling amp. Whatever "tone" it can get, it can get at any volume.
      It's only tube amps that often require certain volumes to reach their potential, primarily because a bit part of their tone comes from power amp distortion. None of that applies here. The sound is produced digitally and pushed out via a solid state amp.

    • @Juicexlx
      @Juicexlx 2 года назад

      @@ReductioAdAbsurdum Yes & no. The JMD:1 is powered by 4 EL34 tubes. When hot, the dirt & lead emulations settings scream. It's a tube Marshall and like all tube Marshall amps, louder is better. You need an attenuator/load box to play at room level. The best comparison is a Marshall JMP-1 on top of a 100W Marshall valve block like the old EL34 50/50 Poweramp. In fact, the JMD:1 does have that setting. Better put some ear muffs & a tuque if you crank that up. It's Vintage Dave Mustaine's Trash Metal rig!

    I have one on the way and if people calling BS are right I will admit to it but if not I will also let you know. Modeling is here and now and this is ahead of the latest game. Take a look at what Metallica and Megadeth are using live and get back to this post.
    Call outs are not valid in my eyes. I don't see him struggling at all. But there are always going to be Tube snobs.
    Blow your hearing out with the vintage stuff , yeah it's all tube but turn it down and how does it sound ?

  • @Bluz2jazz
    @Bluz2jazz 9 лет назад +5

    Man, if you think this is tube distortion you don't know jack. Modern amps are nothing more than stomp box pre-amps. From Marshall to Mesa, how do you get power tubes to distort like that? Solid state preamps !

      1960BV loaded with Vintage 30 (Marshall Vintage 30 or Celestion V30 made before or early 2000's)

      Hybrid. 1x ECC83 in a preamp with digital simulations of other Marshall amps and the power section has 4x EL34 for the 100W.
      It kicks you in the nads and makes your ears bleed like any other 100W Marshall when cranked. I need an attenuator even if controlling the gain & volume is easier than old Plexi. The good thing is that it comes with an effects loop & a sturdy programmable footswitch made of steel. Not a plastic POS.

    It may even cost more. You know thats a 54' Vintage Gold top right ?? You cant buy them for less than that. Theres always gonna be the " Best Amp " thats why they rate them & have reviews on them.

    Dude, crank it! Key to a good souding Marhsall in my ears. Rarely heard a Marshall sound decent at low volume. Just my opinion.

      It sounds like it's bring stepped on. Like muffled or compressed. I like the Manuel mode to set it free loud and use analog overdrive pedals.

    hard to say unless you know for sure exactly which model &yr that gtr is..i mean there are over 100 variations of les pauls, its ridiculous, and then each year has a diff value , no way you can appraise a gold top just by looking at it in a video unless you are privey to exactly what it is..

    But we can agree on some things right? like line 6 spider will sound worse than an old plexi.

    Its really hard to tell what he has, unless he tells you himself what hes playing on because Doug hot rods all his equipment to his taste.
