      Great video, guys!!^^
      Literally just completed the mobile version of this game and now wanting to play either arcade original or the NES-port (MAN, that's a neat intro!).

    The Disk System version feels like a beta. It is missing quite a bit of music cues. The NES version is a much more complete experience.

    My favorite port of this game is probably the PlayStation version mainly because it features a remixed soundtrack and that it is nearly arcade perfect. My least favorite port is probably the MSX port (Just another lazy ZX Spectrum port). Although the unofficial MSX port is far better than the Official MSX port.

    My favorite part about this game is that Red Dead Revolver started as a remake of this. Naturally, that game led to an amazing rootin', tootin', cowboy shootin' series.

    This is actually some really solid official porting all round. You could probably hear the wails of the MSX owners bemoaning yet another direct Spectrum-to-MSX port back in the 90s, but in truth, Topo Soft did a solid job of the Spectrum version anyway, and the AY audio was a welcome addition. Turns out that the bespoke "unofficial" MSX port was a bit of a trainwreck. That's some pretty smooth scrolling on the CPC version as well. The C64 version is perhaps the weakest of the 8-bit ports with some very squirrely controls, but still perfectly playable. The PSX/Saturn port is of course by far the best, especially with that beautiful remixed soundtrack - the PSX/Saturn port also formed the basis for the native ports to the PS2, Xbox OG and PSP.

    The theme music on the Saturn/PlayStation versions is 🔥. If I ever have to walk into a situation where I'm outnumbered and out gunned, that's what I want playing.

    Most of these are unsanctioned clones. I get the feeling that the only thing stopping Desperado from being "official" was lack of Capcom's blessing. Seems like it was developed with being an official game in mind, but never got the go-ahead. The Java port amuses me, because the bullets seemingly fly out of the horses ass, as bullets do.

    Does anyone know why the Spectrum, MSX, and Amstrad versions were called Desperado? I can't find any source that explains the change.

      Desperado was done in Spain by Topo Soft, they didn't own the copyright, that's why.

    mitico, nunca entendí el éxito de éste juego, le falta velocidad q era lo principal, en spectrum me pareció en su dia muy aburrido y dificil, pero la portada de azpiri era inmejorable.
    Aunque creo q tambien lo mencionan mas abajo, cabe recordar las versiones de 16bit, llamadas Wanted, q no fueron recocidas commo ports, pero q todos sabemos q están basadas en el gun smoke.
    la version de commodore, es muy graciosa , con esos supersprites... :D

    The C64 didn't have to look that bad at all, the usual missed opportunity by US Gold. I'm actually pretty impressed by the looks of the CPC and the unofficial MSX.. not too bad! For something similar on the C64, I guess that Outlaw by Player Software (not to be confused with Outlaws by Ultimate) will do. Also Wanted on the Amiga and ST are worth trying as there is no official game.

    • @amerigocosta7452
      @amerigocosta7452 3 года назад

      I think it's the other way around: Capcom USA (other than being a middle man between the British licensee and Capcom of Japan) would publish on the shrinking C64 US market whatever shitty work U.S. Gold had the license to publish in Europe. They couldn't be bothered doing anything on the C64 at that point and I believe Lyndon and associates was a british team associated with US Gold/Go!

    • @amerigocosta7452
      @amerigocosta7452 3 года назад

      @Diskun Oh well, good to know! I'd presume all games were to be published in Europe at that point but evidently they weren't (like Castlevania, an other prominent C64 game never published in Europe).

    I always thought that Arcade's second boss looks like Luffy.
    I like how in ZX Spectrum port sound effects sound like they rhyme.
    Commodore 64 port graphically looks similar to NES port of first Gauntlet. I like it.
    NES was version was my childhood. I had a multigame cartridge which had Gun.Smoke, Metal Gear, Jackal, Life Force, Rush'n Attack, Saiyuki World and maybe Gun-Nac. Such a good memories.

    Back in the 80s, I was pretty naive. I liked the C64 port of Commando and when I saw the arcade screenshots on the back of the box for Gun.Smoke, I thought that it looked like a western themed version of Commando. I figured if the C64 could do a good version of Commando and this game was by the same company, it would be just as good. I didn't know at the time that game companies would contract their ports out based on whatever developer could do the job as cheaply as possible. They also seemed to favor developers with little to no experience, or who had a track record for turning out garbage (Tiertex).
    When I loaded Gun.Smoke for the first time, I thought it was a joke. It looked like a magazine type-in game.
    Just another lousy port from Crapcom.
