When even the past band members like Eric and he is was even worried hurting Peter criss for taking his spot. Eric was by far the best member and person.
Did Ace and Peter have their issues ? Yes, however they helped Kiss become what they became in the 70's during their heyday. They helped develop the Kiss sound and wrote some of their most beloved songs that Simmons and Stanley still use today. I'm not taking anything from G and P they are equally responsible for their success. It's a shame that the original line up was like oil and water. On stage they had a certain chemistry that couldn't be duplicatated. The original line up between 73 and 78 was an unstoppable force.
Paul Stanley basically revived Kiss singlehandedly in the 80s. I hate most of the music they put out in their hair metal days (COTN was the last good album, for my tastes), but mad respect for adapting and surviving. Like it or not, their current version is making truckloads of money, and that wouldn't be happening if they had crashed and burned in the 80s. Stanley has said a lot of good things about other people too, but this video series uses some selective editing to shape its narrative
I met Eric on the Crazy Nights tour on Princes Street, Edinburgh, Scotland. Grinning Eric and his pal (a grinning, rock-star looking guy) were following this total-knock out 'hippy style' dressed glamour-model looking gal who had just walked past (I later figured out that was Eric's girlfriend, Carrie Stevens. They must have just been pretending, playing 'follow that beautful girl' when it was actually his girlfriend). Eric autographed my Crazy Nights LP empty cover (I brought it in a shoulder bag with me, when I was around town that day, in case I bumped into KISS!). He was friendly, graciously took my compliments about how cool the synthsonics 'tune' was during 'last night's drum solo' (they played two nights at the Edinburgh Playhouse on the Crazy Nights tour). When I asked, he advised the other band members were probably around the hotel (Carlton Hotel, on the North Bridge). I wished him a good evening/show (for later that evening), and he and the other grinning guy scampered up the small staircase into a tartan tourist-trap shop. Eric was a good guy! On the 'Crazy Tour', Eric may not have been talking to Paul, but he talked to me! (And Eric and his pal seemed to be having fun: they were grinning and laughing as they pretended to 'follow' his girlfriend down Princes Street.)
@@biccytrollox I don’t disagree but I saw them on their first Original 4 tour in ‘96 and later at the very last North American show for Peter and they definitely did NOT disappoint. From what I heard...Eric was making about $3600 a week when he was hired in 1980....but by the time of Crazy Nights, owing to financial issues, they had cut his salary considerably....by 1990 he was barely over 90k a year. Adjusted for inflation it's still not a bad pay day.
