50ft tilt over tower project

  • the project i have been working on in my spare time the last couple months. made mostly out of things i had laying around. 40ft of tower with 10ft of mast pipe out the top with a lightning antennas L2 2 element cubical quad antenna on top

    Great job. I am curious about the pole that the winch is secured to. Iron beam attached to wood? How did you calculate the height required for that pole etc. I am going to install a Universal Tower 16-50.

      @@chromakeyblue yes so i just used what i had around the beam is a piece of trailer frame and it was about 20ft long so 16ft sticks above the concrete i did no figuring out i just hoped it worked because it is what i had. The only problem i had was when winching up the tower the beam would want to twist because although it is very strong if it stays directly in line any sideways pull or twist it is Very weak so that is why i drilled it and lagged the 6x6 post to it as well

      @@worldradio520 What size I beam did you use as far a thickness of the steel? Maybe the dimensions of the steel too. Thanks for the video

      @@Swphoto800 i took some measurements 7"x2" uchannel x 1/4" thickness

    It's not locked into anything once up? Relying on just winch tension?

      No no i put bolts through both plates once in the upright postion to lock it there. I guess i didnt show that

    put ya a little bracket up top to catch it at correct position.

      Yes you are right i should really do that. Once the weather gets nicer in the spring here i was planning on doing that and painting it finally

      @@jameyevans29 ya it is hard if you dont have a welder or access to that stuff but i have found the radio community quite willing alot of times to help each other out
