  • G'day
    Have you ever wanted a tilt base for that 40m vertical you've got in the middle of your backyard?
    Check this video out, it might give you an idea or two on making your own.
    Follow the link for a write up on the parts needed and a rough guide on how to make the tilt base in this video. There's nothing accurate about this build, I just made it up as I went along.
    Thanks for stopping by.
    Cheers..

    Hi Sdear OM,
    Thank you very much for sharing your achievement.
    This allowed me to get an idea of how to make this type of tilting mast myself.
    Merci beaucoup

    N6EF-This is a great idea. I need to make this for my ground-mounted, 4-band vertical.

      Pretty easy to make if you have the tools and the time. And much cheaper than commercial options

      Thanks for the kind words. This tilt base easily lifts my multiband vertical. Think DX commander style, only all out of aluminium.

      @@VK4IM Question: Those two black mounts for attaching to the pole, are they metal of plastic for isolation between the two?
      What are they called if i go to the hardware store? 😀

    • @VK4IM
      @VK4IM  Год назад

      They are plastic with metal backing for the bolts, called "Stauff" clamps and available from an Industrial Hydraulics supply house. See this page for the parts list qsl.net/vk4im/vertical_02.html

    need to clamp down that mini drill press.
    need to have your hinge bolt inside a length of pipe. thus giving far more surface area to hinge on.

    • @VK4IM
      @VK4IM  Год назад +1

      Drill press has since been replaced with a "real one". The amount of times the antenna gets raised and lowered doesn't warrant an internal tube, but your comment s noted. Thank you.

      Oi "Amaral"
      Obrigado por comentar.
      Minha antena tem 32 radiais, cada um com 5 metros de comprimento. No meu caso, é melhor ter radiais mais curtos do que 4 longos por causa das limitações de espaço.
      Você pode alimentar a antena diretamente com cabo coaxial sem balun, se quiser. Eu uso um balun 1: 1 na base da antena para evitar que o RF desça pelo coaxial - é apenas uma precaução.
      O balun é feito de um FT240-31 Ferrite Toroid ui=1500 e 12 voltas de RG142 50ohm (alta potência) cabo coaxial. Você pode usar RG58CU também Low Power).

      You can feed the antenna directly with coaxial cable without balun if you want. I use a 1:1 balun at the base of the antenna to prevent RF from coming down the coax - It's just a precaution.

    GDDAY, What are the black insulating blocks called and from where? VK2FLN

    • @VK4IM
      @VK4IM  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi
      They are called "Stauff" clamps. I got them from Industrial Hydraulics in Lawton QLD - any good hydraulics parts supplier should carry them. Or you can try a search for a retailer on their website stauff.com.au/en/help-centre/locations/line-system-partner
      A full parts list for the tilt base is located here qsl.net/vk4im/vertical_02.html

    • @VK4IM
      @VK4IM  2 года назад

      Thanks Tech Guy! The insulator blocks are called “Stauff Clamps” and are available from the better hydraulics suppliers around the place. You can get them on eBay as well but they are near double price of what you pay at a hydraulics parts supplier
