    Preach it Dane! You are the backbone of the hobby.
    When I sold my Top Sportsman car I decided from there forward everything I build must be streetable.
    I haven’t entered any Drag and Drive events yet but working towards that goal.
    Takes forever when you have to do everything yourself with mostly used parts, but that is a large part of the fun!

    • @Burndown

      I have been working on upgrading the Maliboom for 6 years now since I LS swapped it. I still have parts from the junkyard on my car and am slowly turning them into nicer stuff. Doing everything yourself is a long road it its rewarding to know that YOU built it and YOU finished a drag and drive. I have a lot of pride in being able to show people I built the car im racing. Keep plugging away and don’t be afraid of a good used parts. Get it running for a cheap as you can and start enjoying it. You have the rest of your life to upgrade it as you go!

    Took me 10 years to realize going the fastest, farthest, biggest etc. usually is more headache/cost/pain and ruins the fun of most things when you try to min max everything to death. Do what makes you happy and you won’t care what the #s say.

      I feel like the big RUclips names are good for the sport. They put people in the stands and that’s what’s going to grow the sport. As a racers it seems they get special treatment sometimes but that’s just life in general. Did you not like having the big names at the event? Was it a negative experience or a positive one?

    I think drag n drive is cool but I also think bracket racing is cool. Not sure why you talk about pro moods and stackers when you think of a drag race. We have a group of maybe 20-30 bracket cars from Nor-cal that travel local and to WestCoast bracket events. We pit together, eat, drink and a work on each others cars, etc. we rescue each other when our tow rigs break down. It’s very competitive racing usually for $1000 to win and super competitive when it is for $20;000 to win. We all build and work on our own cars. What scares me about drag n drive is breaking down out on the road. I don’t like to be stranded lol! I realize everyone on the road helps each other but we do that in grass roots bracket racing too.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  4 месяца назад

      If you have found a good group and camaraderie with some drag race friends that’s awesome. I talk about the high dollar stuff because lots of it exists at the bracket style events. If you’re new to drag racing or starting out I feel like D&D is a better opportunity to enjoy your car and have fun. All drag racing is expensive let’s no kid ourselves but for someone looking to start racing I’m going to bring them over to the dark side 🤣.
      So you don’t want to pull a powerglide out of a shed and build it at the track so you can race and make it back to your truck that’s 600 miles away? 🤣

    I'm not going to argue your points, but am going to give you a counterpoint.
    (1) IF a racer lives close enough to a track that has a weekly program, then that racer can do a lot more drag racing than going on one Drag-n-Drive event a year. When I bracket raced, I drove my car the 15 miles to the strip and had a great time racing every Saturday in the Pro Class with my low 13 sec wagon. Entry was pretty cheap, and if you went three rounds, you earned your money back, which brings me to my next point.
    (2) Compared to "regular" drag racing, Drag-n-Drive is exponentially more expensive. The motels alone cost a fortune compared to driving home after the race and sleeping in your own bed. I understand this isn't possible for some racers, but for others with local tracks, like where I live in Maryland, drag racing is relatively inexpensive as far as travel and lodging (not needed for most) goes. On the other hand...
    (3) Regular drag racing is for money! Whether a weekly bracket race or a monthly heads-up cash event, the racers are competing for actual dollars. This motivates racers to improve their cars and driving skils to try and win back some of that money they put into their program. Even the lowly slow Street Class has a payout, and not just to the class winner. Lastly...
    (4) The competition at a regular drag race is palpable. There's nothing like beating the car in the other lane to end their night or losing to that other car and being done for the night. You definitely don't have that type of competition in a Drag-n-Drive event - it's all time trials. And you won't win money, either.
    I've completed the last 4 Drag Weeks in a row with my wagon, not without difficulty. I'm building a new car to compete in a different class where I might have a chance at winning. Honestly, after that I might go back to weekly or monthly local racing with my wagon as long as my work schedule allows it. And yeah, I'll still drive it to the track & back.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  3 месяца назад

      You sound fortunate to have a track down the street from you. My track isn't too far but with traffic I would say 1 to 1.5 hour drive or so one way. I agree that D&D is expensive and I made the choice to no go to my local track as much to save money to go on RMRW. RMRW pays out for the event and then they have a shoot out at the end of the week that pays out as well so I don't know where your getting the race dosent pay out. Drag and Drive is plenty competitive. Just to finish is a huge accomplishment let alone placing top 3 in any class. RMRW has a shoot out on the final day where everyone gets to race so its bracket and heads up depending on how fast your car is. I don't find bracket racing to be interesting at all, and when you heads up race it's usually the guy with more money wins so that counts me out as well. They do a race called match race madness local here I may do at some point and you get matched up with another car and its a best 2 of 3 grudge race so that would be fun I think if I had an evenly matched race. Thank you for your option on the topic.Do you enjoy drag week at all? I have never been to drag week.

    Duct tape Drags is my version of Drag N Drive. Made the drive from Irwindale a few times its amazing. Im still too far down the Have nots to afford a full drag and drive. I agree, When they got rained out and they shut it down its total BS. But thats on the staff at the track. Too lazy to do anything. I will say since Derik from VGG has come, He hangs out and tours the pits often. Even after it rained he was making the rounds.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  4 месяца назад

      I haven’t gone in a few years to zip tie or duck tape drags or whatever they call it at this point. Derik was nix when I met him at rmrw for the two seconds I talked to him. Irwindale to AZ is a haul so be proud of that drive! I would love to bring the bego out for fun to hang out with everyone. I have some buddies that go every year that are super cool. D&D is expensive. Maybe red wood rally would be an option for you. I may continue next year if budget permits me to do two events. I’m maxed out on going to RMRW right now so I can’t do two events yet. But I have a plan!

    i love watching drag and drive and its the 1320 stuff on the side of road / fred doing a story on the struggle kind of thing, but what i dont get is you do 5 days of qualifying and then you dont race its all over you get an average , i think there should be a race on day 6 the field should be set up on the averages and have a normal drag meet to decide the winners, one last chance to come from behind

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  4 месяца назад +1

      Well my friend welcome to RMRW! 4 days of drag and drive and day 5 is a shoot out where everyone races! They do exactly what you’re talking about. The thing is by day 5 everyone is pretty worn out tho and so are lots of the cars. I went 4 rounds last year before it got rained out so I go to split the pot so technically I won last year 😆

  • @IknowBrian

    I agree, phrase it differently but we are on the same page. I call them the license plate cars - local tracks are great as they also allow for friends and family to attend,. Evem better is that the Jr. Dragster driver get to bring their schoolmates - great story for the media outlets and in turn great way to increase attendence and awareness of the family attitude to the non-racing commnunity.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  4 месяца назад

      I love everything drag racing. My son would have a Jr. but it’s not his jam so I don’t force it but I love the idea of getting them started young. The difference with drag and drive tho is it brings more utility and purpose to your “fast” car. It’s still a money pit that sits in your garage but now it can be used more often and for something other than a specific event. It also helps the normies learn about d&D because my car is at the gas station i
      Or out driving around. I just had this conversation at the grocery store in the parking lot with a guy the other day when I picked up groceries in the Maliboom.

      I trailer the boom depending on what I’m doing with it. If I could do the cage over I would have done the rear bars to keep the back seat in the car so it was more usable for a family of 3. We have my wife’s car to do so now that I’m full drag and drive we won’t take the back seat out of her car so we’ll probably drive it more that way.
