What was missed here: Mini started to not scout with his probe, so he could mine more and get the attack upgrade faster, which caught Queen off guard, the timing was just perfection.
yes it wass missed 2 times and not scouting is a very big thing vs z even in the lower ranks but tasteless is not the best p player obviously he also didnt understand the tactics behind the late 2 nd stargate
@@haushkiy they however failed to explain properly the cannon attacking it's own pylon. It's a shame we can't get all four of them together, the analysis and stream would be brutal.
Queen really looked stunned as the series went along. Mini was just catching him at vulnerable times each game and then in game 5 queen was so close to winning. Crazy!
Outstanding play by Mini! Now this is Kespa (progamer bw) days quallity of games, for all the new viewers you can now understand why BW had such a passion from players to viewers, including lots of females.
Spoilers (game 2) One thing Tastetosis failed to comment on why Queen was blindsided was the positioning of Mini's buildings. Mini's second gate and citadel both complete around 5:40, outside of overlord vision. Queen only finds out what's happening when the overlord scouts the bottom of the main to check that Mini is teching normally. He only starts producing units when he sees a citadel but no templar archives, but by then his timing is already a few seconds late and the few seconds gives Mini enough time to bust down the evo in the natural. The most impressive part was Mini went into this build blindly (hence the second cannon at 5:20 for safety measures). The corsair doesn't make it to the zerg main until 5:55 to see the spore, and by then +1, legs, and heavy zealot production are already on the way. At first I thought Queen was blindsided by the +1 timing, but he knew it from his scouting zerglings around 4:20. It was really the gutsy blind gateway in lieu of templar archives that threw him off
Spoiler: Amazing performance by mini against a two time defending champ. After game 1, I thought for sure Queen was going to advance based on the video length. Never thought mini would win 4 in a row. That last game to fight off the speed lings seemed unrecoverable. Fascinating and well deserved for mini
Dude his PvZ is so good. Also his PvP is incredible too. He's amazing. What a good player. I think he might be the best protoss in the world now, along with snow
@@houndofzeus I really wanted Best to win also. Hes just such a high level player who has never won a big championship. He alwaysssss loses in the RO 16 or RO 8 ALWAYS lol
Queen: say BYE after 15 minutes Mini: u won’t HAVE 15 minutes Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce the 10gate/no search build, protoss’ new counter build against zerg
Queen played very greedy and he only gets away with it because Zerg can be such an early game threat. Mini proved himself to be the better player period. Especially that last game
Look at Minis face @1:23:15 The smallest little smirk knowing he's already won the game. There is no way a zerg is keeping their natural against a 9/9 proxy gate when they went hatch first lol.
Game 2 is actually kinda legendary among the pros the fact that Mini went for a gate expand without scouting assuming the overpool and Queen actually played into it. And the fact he thought he could stop that many zealots with just lings and no sunkens.
I feel like Queen would've won that last game if he had immediately destroyed the forge instead of chasing the probe and then taking the long way to the pylon. If he got the pylon down before the Zealot got out, it would've been the right play. Crazy how tight these good games are!
I tried to go Zealot leg into early aggression and thought it was impossible to win with because of Muta pressure. I have been informed that it is in fact possible.
It's totally possible. You rush Plus 1 speed lots from 2-3 gates and Even if you don't straight up kill the other player you can do damage like kill a spire / pool / bunch of drones and lings, while at the same time morphing an archon at home to protect your base from mutas attacking after. It gets weird though if the opponent also tries some kind of all in like ling attack or 3 hatch hydra. Then you just got out micro them and hope you trade well.
If you skip corsairs all together it's risky but you can go 8 gate and power up or do the rush like I was saying, off just a few gates. I've beaten so many zergs who went fast three base and droned up all greedy. They have a couple sunkens and a hand ful of lings lol. Like that's gonna beat 14 plus 1 speed lots.
Came back to watch this a second time before watching Larva vs Hero, excited to watch the final with Mini advancing the meta so hard. Edit: Sometimes you think that Tastosis is just filling time but as this is a rewatch it's really interesting how insightful they are, I mean they don't take hard stances but the things that they touch on were all exceptionally relevant. I mean around the 17-23 min mark, based on my recollection of the way this match happened it's almost uncanny. "We may see a very differnt PvZ" "He's making 14 zealots" "He likes to engage his opponents" "He understands zerg very well" *"If we're going to see somebody evolve this matchup it will probably be Mini"* And more that I couldn't type out as I heard them. They're like Nostrodamus but real. Edit2: I remember the failed cannon rush and I'm thinking Queen mistook this meta evolution and key zealot pressure for desperation for units and didn't catch on until he got picked apart by it twice I think. The first game was really bad for Mini but I don't think that takes away from the dominance he put on display afterwards.
Snow..... Edit: In addition - Tastosis talk a lot about how this may change PvZ in general. However I think the revolution of Bisu back then was more fundamental. Was it really the strategic choices of Mini, or is more his execution? I honestly doubt, that many protoss besides him are able to pull that off
I still think Bisu is and will always be Mr. Protoss because of what he did. But Mini is inching closer to his own revolution maybe? Maybe this will make other Protoss pros be more unpredictable? The thing is Protoss has always been at the mercy of what Zerg wanted to do but now Mini is being the pimp and the Z is the bitch. Cool nonetheless, I am glad it will not be a ZvZ finals.
He took risks early in game two and three by not scouting/scouting late and skimping on cannons. That let him get plus 1 attack and a few extra zealots so his initial zealot push is way stronger than you usually see. Game 2 you see Queen make a ton of lings, enough to crush a normal zealot push, but plus 1 kicks in and Mini smashes the lings. I’m not sure if this is a long term solution because without scouting you could just die to an early ling flood. That’s what Queen tried in game 5 and almost won it. There’s probably some greedy hydra busts against the lack of cannons as well
Mini didn't even have to open the Ninth Gate! oh I want Larva to win but I also want Mini to win because he is bringing the game to a whole new meta, OOF
Spoiler: If Queen knew that Mini was going to be aggressive early on (as he mentioned it earlier in the interview) and all he had to do was to survive to mid/late game, then why didn't he focus on early defense more? Zerg's builds made no sense in the context of interview. I'm not saying I understand the game more that commentators do, but for me it felt more like Queen being too greedy and sloppy with not making enough defense, rather than Mini's "new and brilliant" use of his builds.
Mini is being brilliant because his builds counter the greed in a reactionary way. Tastosis highly emphasised that he made most of his important decisions after scouting what Queen was doing, so if Queen had played more defensively, Mini wouldn't have used the exact timing pushes that he did. Of course I'm not saying that Queen wouldn't have at least stayed alive longer if he had gotten more defence. Especially in the game with the spore and the DTs it was very puzzling to not have a sunken colony behind that wall, and I think he could have held on a lot better if he had gotten that. And then who knows, maybe Queen would have had a better chance if he had safely reached the mid- and lategame.
This was amaaaaazing. But please please please put anti-spoilers in and make the videos longer, otherwise it's too obvious who wins once someone is up 3-1 or in this case even 2-1
Exactly! For that reason i've created a userscript that hides the current playback status & vid length. You can find it by going to greasyfork and searching for 'RUclips anti spoiler'. Keep in mind it's just a quick fix, but it does the work for me :)

Yeah unfortunately :( Without fail, I always get the results somehow spoiled particularly when browsing TLNet. But, I don't want to give up browsing TLNet just to solve that problem.
Beside the earlty zealot attack with upgrades i do feel that Mini mainly won because of mind games, such as defending the 9pool. did a proxy gate vs 12 hatch, he went 2 SG assuming Queen would go mutas and last he saw a spore so he just punished it correctly with dt drop. What do u guys think?
Yeah. And that's why I'm quite confident Larva can win. He is good at reading mind games, and very resilient against early aggressions. This ASL could be Larva's.
All Zerg games are mind-gamey. I even find ZvTs where the Zerg mass Mutalisks to be a mind game of themselves. Good to see a Zerg out mind-gamed by a Protoss
