"Have you tried cleaning it, reapplying the appropriate grease or assembly compound, and tightening it back up to the recommended torque?" "Ugh..." "OK... well there's this super cool 'hack' I saw on Shorts that you might want to try"
@559Cyclist I've experimented with off cuts from shortening my carbon steerer tube. I used an old stem to clamp it tight, then really tight, then as tight as I could go. Only at max tightness did a little deformation line appear. I then put the "deformed" bit of tubing in the vice to see how easily it would break, it was practically indestructible! So, I really think you will be okay with man tight (if you don't have a torque wrench!).
@@rouxenophobe don't screw with carbon steerers, torque meter always for that. Some steerers will deform after the 7 or 8nm mark despite having an expander plug. Be smart.
This Video is Good... BUT... It needs an additional 3 more extremely important steps as follows... DO! 1. You need to lightly grease the inside of the seat clamp that contacts the frame. 2. lubricate the treads and head of the seat-clamp bolt. 3. If using a Quick Release Seat Clamp, you must apply a few drops of chain oil on the QR mechanism and pivot area. WHY?! 1. Lubing the inside of the s-clamp allows it to slide and wrap around the frame and s-post in a super 360 degree tight grip. If left dry it will only pinch tight at the clamp opening, which will only damage the frame and the post, especially if they are both carbon fiber. 2. If you do not lubricate the s-clamp bolt, the dry treads will temporarily seize and give you a false torque reading. Then when you hit a bump the temp seizure on the treads will break loose and allow the seat post to come loose. 3. A QR seat clamp works on a Cam, and if cam and pivot pin is dry the contact points can not slide to their full clamping potential. Thus the seat post will continuously and mysteriously come loose all the time no matter how tight you clamp it.
Good job 👍🏾… I too use a metal bike and metal seat post and make sure they don’t freeze together. Those who commented why he use carbon paste, any anti freeze grease including carbon paste helps. Carbon paste is not exclusive for carbon. Thanks! ❤✌🏾
I would use regular Park Tools or equivalent grease for an aluminum seat post, and carbon paste if the post is carbon (didn't look like it here). Super important if you're using a carbon seatpost so it doesn't get stuck if your seat tube oxidizes.
Using grease on the seat post was the worst advice I got when I started mountain biking 13 years ago. I was wondering why my seat post kept sliding in. So I cleaned it off, bought some friction paste, never had a problem again. There’s no harm in using carbon paste for aluminium parts, it’s really just grease with some fine sand in it.
And don’t overgrease the seatpost; if not the pressure from clamp will not be enough to hold it into place. We are only looking a a very minute amount to stop seizures
nmˋs on the saddlepost is actually bullshit. You should always adjust the bolt so you can twist the saddle slightly by hitting the nose and the rear of the saddle in opposite direction pretty hard. Like this you make shure the saddle is mouted śjust strong enough not to twist, but loose enough to safe your saddle when you crash.
And then you strip the bolt Or you can't get it out of the frame... Fibre grip is pretty good on alloy frames, but be sparing (this I learned the hard way)

Do regular maintenance
@@eddd653 yeah. Worse thing is, some people need to be told to do it
Most people are lazy and would rather just pay for new shit when something breaks
I mean, the hack is actually fiber grip...which isn't really a hack... it's just what the product was made for
In the 40 years of bike riding, I've never torque tightened e anything on my bikea and I still own them all including my very first.
The post is aluminum and the frame..you not need carbon paste
Still helps add friction between two metal surfaces tho
There is a paste for aluminium posts too. We've used it for years
It's actually better than grease for that though.
It'll get stuck if you use carbon paste on both alloy surfaces, i suggest 6nm
Most dropper posts recommend carbon paste so you put less torque on the clamp, regardless of frame material.

I like the use of friction paste most people don’t realise it’s usefulness especially on carbon fibre parts

Apparently all out of Phil wood grease so carbon grip paste on alloy parts.
No problem.
Props for having the same Precision Torques Wrench as me.
That's why I have Salsa Lip Locks on all my bikes. But carbon paste will work (for a little while) on metal frames and seatposts.
There is a paste for aluminium posts too
If your seat post goes down like that the seat clamp is not tigh enough. Both issues were that the seat clamps were not tight enough.
You forgot to do the obligatory 3 clicks on the torque wrench just to make sure it’s tight.

I love how these "hacks" just involve cleaning your damn bike
On non carbon applications i never use a torque wrench, just get a feel fo4 how tight you can go before stripping parts

Carbon paste works great on aluminum, steel and titanium. No idea why you'd use regular grease for a seatpost other than for the threads

Why not use 2 screws Nut ring to clamp?
Fiber Grip is only necessary on carbon fiber frames. Hence the name. You can torque down on aluminum frames much higher.
