I loved this tutorial. I wanted to make a basket using plastic bags. So I used your technique of weaving with two tubes. Only I made my tubes out of potato chip bags and other snack bags cut into rectangles. Gluing them closed was the hard part. I couldn't have done it with out your help - thank you!

Glue the outside flap as you finish rolling the tube. You can use a clothes pin while it dries.

This is so nice of you to share this! I'm wondering if you have to glue the tubes closed after you roll them? Also, what kind of paint do you use on them, acrylic? How wide should the paper section be when you cut it before rolling? Homemade gifts are the best. I made Christmas trees this year with tissue paper and my recipients LOVED them. Yes. you have to use glue at the corner to seal the tubes.
The width of paper strips is not fixed, depends on how much hard tubes are needed. For this i used strips of size 54.5 cm X 8.75 cm. But you don't need to measure. Just divide the sheet in 3 or 4 parts.
Essentially any kind of paint/color can be used. Here I have used ink that is used to refill printer cartridges. They come in bottles of CMY(Cyan,Magenta,Yellow) colors which can be mixed in different proportions to make any color. The amount of water mixed depends on how light or dark color you want. You may use poster colors, water colors, acrylic colors or any other type of color you have.

If you are new to this then it is natural to have uneven and different sized tubes. It is perfectly OK and will get better as you make more tubes. If you think your tube is fat don't unroll and roll again. Just let it be and make the next tube. If you try to judge every tube and unroll if it does not look good to you it will make you frustrated in a short time. On the other hand if you roll your tubes irrespective of whether it is correct or not, you will discover that an amazingly large no of tubes will be good. Also, it takes more time to unroll and roll a tube than it takes to make a new one. For better results you can sort your tubes in piles based on thickness and then use tubes of same thickness for one article or just discard some tubes if they are of very different size. Good Luck 😊😊

while i make the base the base goes loose and starts to pop out and i get hard to weave please help me give me some ideas Sometime before my newspaper tubes were being bad but now i am good after i looked your paper tube making tutorial
The 4 dark blue tubes at center get loose or the weaving gets loose ? If it is the center tubes, then you can stick them using glue before starting to weave. If it is weaving then use some pins to keep it in place.

I made my very first little basket. It's REALLY rough looking. How do you ever get the tubes so neat?! You must have a very light touch. Wow.
I just made my first basket, and I have the exact same question. My tubes broke a little when I bended them, and then they didn't come together as neat as in the video.
I can't do that I'm 9 years old but this is hard for me to do:( please another examples I really need your help for my project....please

Keep plugging & you 2 Will get it. Don't give up. Push on. Each time you get better. You didnt start walking when first born. Had to learn to roll over, sir up, get on all fours, crawl, climb up to stand.

Not necessary. I made this basket with completely dry tubes but some people sprinkle water to moisten the tubes to make them soft for weaving.

You kind of glossed over properly showing that first tie-back in finishing the top edge of the basket. I had to re-watch it a couple of times to see what you did.
I also like that you painted the tubes before weaving. Looks much nicer than painting the whole thing afterwards.
