I love how, Spiderpunk and spiderman-india were like best buddies.
I want them to have a great role in the next part.
They will
Forget spiderman India Ganke deserves more screen time
Bounded buy their hatred of the British government.
@@BigPlayGay Yeah! He hasn't had much screen time like Ned in Tom Holland's Spiderman movies

He stood out just like Spider Noir did

Something about being black that’s so cool 😎
Yep, I hope those two interact at least somewhat in Beyond the Spiderverse because both guys have a real anti-authority help the little man way about them despite going about it in different ways.
Daniel brought a kind of authenticity to Hobie that actually made me emotional. He’s too wavey 👏🏿
Same
@hfc that's just a lie all anybody has been talking about it is the animation
@hfc3696 the art was truly amazing, and I've been raving about how they really did bring the uniqueness of each character and each character's world to they came from.
But I also admit, Spider-Punk's authenticity WAS what made could be a super cringey character.
@hfc3696 I can see your point kind of, certainly animators number in the hundreds/thousands and should get some kind of recognition beyond a credit, but the voice actors and directors/producers are the face of any project and are the ones who do these kinds of interviews to promote films.
@hfc3696It was a bit of everything, you're no doubt aware but the voice casting in the Spiderverse movies has been spot on (no pun intended) for every character.
The animation and art definitely made the biggest impact but the voices do matter as well.
kaluuyas voice is literally perfect for hobie
hes from where punk was born which is sick
@@beatbyksweet comics punk was from the USA but this was an interesting take
@@rnathanielryaan2034 Yea the Genre "Punk" Or punk rock originated in Camdenm UK
He transformed for Hobie! Man I was like, “who is this guy?!”
Just spiderpunk's art style, like how he appears to be a collage of various comic covers was super creative and amazing to look at. Great addition to the cast
It’s an art style called Composition Collage, they took that pop art form and brought it to life in animation, Like Spider punk ain’t a character he’s a concept breaking frames every scene he’s in. Super creative innit? He was my favorite new Spidey, really badass.
You said comic covers I thought old school concert flyers myself!
It took the animators 3 years to animate him
@Word is Bond
fits his personality perfectly too which is sick
This character was more Punk than most Punk artists of the era.
I love the way they reinvented Spider India and Punk. They were always so fun in the comics but these versions really had a lot of style and culture injected in them. Usually I hate when comics start mimicking the movie looks but in this case I wouldn't mind
Me too. Pavitr Prabhakar's redesign is amazing.
And I love everything about Hobie Brown. Obviously the art style is gorgeous. I love that they made him more British, great decision. Love his voice. Spiderpunk is a fav for sure.
I do like the original design for spiderman india more but the new design takes influence from the Holi celebration.
@@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 the original design is just spider-man with sweatpants
@Fauxvids it's called a dhoti and no the webs come from the spider on the chest and spread out and in some panels he has a spider on his face. People pretending they know indian culture trying to explain to me my own culture. Not surprised.
I love how Spider-Punk/Hobie Brown is in the same boat as Spiderman Noir from the first film, where he's a side character but he absolutely steals the entire show whenever he shows up.Such a fun character.
Speaking of which, Noir needs to come back. If Nick Cage isn't busy fighting giant spiders.
@lieutenantkettch he's in the ending with Gwen's team. So, he will be in the next one
@@lieutenantkettchhe will be in beyond the spider-verse as you can see him with Gwen near the end of atsv ^_^
Daniel Kaluuya was absolutely amazing as Spider-Punk a true scene stealer 💙 🙌🏾
Yes yes yessss! Absolutely love Daniel and loved him so much as spider punk!
Miles' reaction when Punk's mask came off was pretty much same as mine. Lol
Spider Punk definitely gained a new fan base, his performance will be the bar anybody will have to cross representing Spider Punk .
As soon as his man Miles rejected Miguel, Hobie was like, "I quit." and peaced out. Goated.
He really said “all my homies hate Miguel” 😂
Daniel crushed the role. He was one of my favorite spideys by the end
All his line deliveries were solid. Made the audience laugh several times in the best way, and def my favorite character
My favorite thing is that there was some criticism about the sound mixing because people said they couldn't understand what Spider-Punk was saying. And those criticisms were immediately clapped back with "Nah. It's just that you aren't British."
I'm American and I completely understood him
For me was just some parts the music was a bit too loud or I just didn’t catch it. So I will have to rewatch it. But the movie was amazing definitely one of my favorite characters after miles
Gwen's intro segment was way too quiet for sure. The mixing was definitely off.
The sound mixing was a problem throughout the movie. There were times where I couldn't even hear miles
The sound mixing was a problem throughout the movie. There were times where I couldn't even hear miles
I love the way he explained the "what is punk" part. Real punks didnt believe in the government, no conformity, anarchy to an extent. Pretty bizzare for a spiderman to be an actual rebel
can you tell what he was referring to mentioning during that part of the punk like what is he talking about like “this is punk” etc
@MelonCawly In the punk section, they mentioned how you see punk, there's different "interpretations" like punk rock music or a lifestyle/attitude. "What is punk?" He mentioned "it comes from people who don't got much, like road rats" and you can see that in Hobie, especially his introduction. And jokingly acknowledges Peter's daughter as a anarchist.

@@Sycrxw he makes this other reference about Graham??
what’s a road rat?
@MelonCawly road rat was just a comparison to what a punk is. But in this case road rat is like being homeless, out on the street. Like a hoodlum, which is what "punk" is mostly compared to, people who don't follow social norms, open minded thinking instead of blindly following orders, rebellious. If ur ever interested where punk came from, there's a small explanation on the history of it that took place in Britain, the USA just made "punk-rock" music a very well known thing in the 70s-80s.
he literally stole every scene, one of my favorite characters ever designed for the screen. animation & delivery was stunning ugh perfect cast
He was so real through out the film🗣️🗿
thats how i keep it
@@hobie355 cringe levels unmatched
@@hobie355oh.
I would for sure watch a spinoff movie of spider punk
Me too, was the MVP of the movie
If they could at least make an anthology for each of them in the future… I would love short films for each of the main characters.
I’d like to see a movie in Spider Punk’s universe with a lot of Hobie, but the version of him in this movie is more built to be a hypercompetent supporting character for the less experienced and less capable Miles. I could see him being the deuteragonist in a movie where Gwen is bashing fascists in his universe with him.
Nah same
Daniels acting is incredibly subtle and authentic, which in a very exaggerated animated setting could run the risk of not being noticeable. But he stood out in the movie specifically for that unrelenting authenticity and individuality, becoming a highlight of the movie for many people including myself.
It's crazy because I've heard him speak in his native accent once or twice but couldn't pick it out. I kept saying 'I know this voice and I'm gonna be mad once I find out who it is' and HERE HE IS. He's the coolest character in the movie.
Absolutely loved spider punk, killed me when he saw a giant hole and said "yeah thats a metaphor for capitalism"
*_"Grime_*_ IS Punk! _*_GIGGS_*_ Is Punk!"_ - Gwan, Kaluuya!
Spiderpunk was the best character from his voice to his looks. He out shined everybody. Loved it!
Unironically, Spider-Punk is going to inspire so many people to take an interest in punk culture for real and that's amazing.
He did Spiderpunk justice man, became a fan favorite easily
I wish it would've done a quick back story of Spider-Punk like they did with the intros in the 1st movie. Because the punk 138 universe Hobie is from is definitely the coolest of the universes.
thanks
They do
I hate the Am i hate the Pm
but they did
@@ahmed4363 they had one. But it was so chock full, I really missed the ability to pause and go back ^_^
I had no idea it was Kaluuya while watching the film but it explains why Hobie Brown was my hands down favorite character in the film.
Daniel’s voice and personality were perfect for Spider punk! I hope he knows that his character will be a new favorite for decades to come 😭😭😭 he really brought this amazing character to life
Great interview , I love Daniel Kaluuya he is an incredible actor but this interview made me love him even more. The interview felt more like 2 mates chatting. I need to see more of Jay London doing this, the man has a talent of relaxing who he is talking to. Love it.
He did SO GREAT!!!! He is doing amazing things for this character. Agree with the interviewer- he was the one that stole the show for me. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Around minute 10 "I just find them (horror films) stressful - but I do think there's a lot of truth that can come in those films": That's exactly now I feel about it. Loved his work in this movie. I felt represented in all the Spanish culture shown, I can just imagine how others felt represented by Spider Punk💜
Horror is a great way to explore daunting concepts for fear, anxiety or stress in a safe environment. It's the same with listening to sad songs because sometimes we need to explore those sorts of feelings that leads to a cathartic sensation after.
It always blows my mind to see how far Daniel has come from this little E4 show about some degenerate teenagers to being one of the best versions of one of the biggest superheroes in the world. Love this for him.
Hobie was an instant favorite, hope we see a lot of him in the sequel.
I love this guy's voice omg
Cant wait to see Spider-Punk and Noir interact.
The teamup of Spiderpunk, Spiderman of Mumbattan, Spidergwen and Miles Morales Spiderman easily one of my favourite highlights of the film!!!
it's dope seeing DK actually playing a Brit, like as in Black Mirror, instead of an American (Get Out) or Wakandan (Black Panther). he brought his native culture with the character and that's dope
i was so happy to find out daniel voiced spiderpunk. one of my favorite actors and one of my favorite spidermans.
went from being one of the characters i was least excited to see before the movie to one of my favorite characters across the 2 movies, i cannot wait to see him again
Same here!!!
Bro really listed 'the dinosaur' as representation, I'm dead
Spider Punk was a BEAST, coolest new Spider Man
Hobie had big bro energy for miles
"Grime IS punk" That's so real bro
Daniel Kaluuya has been killing it with his roles lately, but him as Spiderpunk? Knocked it out of the park!
took my 11 year old son to see the film yesterday and he LOVED it and loved Spiderpunk.
Brought him to life flawlessly, it was great to hear Daniel having a fun time instead of his usual very stressed roles
I didn’t even know he was in it, but as soon as I heard him swing in with the “Oi oi!” I knew it was Daniel! Absolutely smashed it
Honestly the best character in the movie imo amazing job loved his character and voice!
It’s crazy that I didn’t know that was his natural voice. I’m used to hearing him with no accent. He killed it.
you mean you thought spider punk was white, right? so you didn’t expect it to be daniel?
@@ryanencarnacion1999 no i think they mean when they've watched him in previous films he spoke in an american accent which for them is "no accent".
@@ryanencarnacion1999no bro. He’s usually got an American accent, that’s all.
@@gummywormed845 Yeah I was surprised that this was the Get Out guy, lot of amazing British actors/actresses that've played American roles, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch and Millie Bobby Brown some other examples
this was the perfect time to introduce spiderpunk considering what he stands for. im just excited and grateful they really stuck to his true character. it was literally perfect for this story.
Spider-Punk was for sure my favorite character in the movie, and I didn’t even know Daniel did his voice until now. I’ve only seen him in a few movies before, so I didn’t recognize his voice. Did such an amazing job!
I watched it this past weekend, and he was by far my favorite variant of Spider-Man. He's animated to look like those cut and paste paper flyers you see plastered on the walls outside music venues, all with ripped edges and mismatching fonts with marker scribbled over the top of it all. His movement looked like you're flipping through the pages of a magazine, and his colour palette was constantly changing - he'd be technicolor one moment, black and grey tone the next, and then textured prints. But what cut through all that noise and chaos is Daniel's voice and heart. Hobie is an anarchist, and he embodies the real punk values of disobedience, pacificism, vandalism, sabotage, and humanism. Despite introducing chaos and sticking to his consistently inconsistent and contrarian views, he admires figures who don't follow "the plan" and who act according to their morality and compassion even when it means sacrificing yourself or the safety and security of operating within someone else's system. I have never read a Spider-Punk comic before, but I'm really inclined now to get myself down to the nearest comic shop to see what they have in stock. He's a total badass, and I can see this version of Spidey getting a lot more popular and more screen time thanks to Daniel's portrayal of him.
dang. Very insightful and well put. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I was so surprised that Daniel Kaluuya was the voice behind the Spider Punk.
As non-British person, I only saw him play an African-American speaking AAVE. What a surprise to see him or to be precise, hear him play a British punk musician/Spiderman speaking thick thick Cockney accent.
Amazing character and amazing acting. tbh his Cockney accent was so very thick, me not being British, it was challenging even to understand what he was saying. But it was amazing nonetheless.
I don't think his accent is cockney.
@@kp1x Bruv that's also a Hollywoods film. It's Jordan Peele's movie isn't it.
Iirc Daniel Kaluya plays an African American character in that movie too.
It is a great movie though. I watched it.
@@ReblazeGaming It's not?
Sorry, I don't know much about British accents. It is a variation of Londoner accent though, innit?
i love spider punk he stood out so much for me. he was the one that made the most impact for me and i fell in love with his design his character his personality... HE IS AMAZING shoutout to the voice actor too he played his laid back cool atmosphere so well
Spiderpunk is definitely my favorite one out of the whole movie. If they ever do a live-action movie, Lancey Foux would fully embody the aesthetic of Spiderpunk and I feel like he's kind of the inspiration behind Spiderpunk's look.
me and my bf keep talking about spiderpunk since we’ve seen the movie. i love that daniel played him, makes his character even better!
He's so successful though! Growing up with a Nigerian parent, I saw the expectations and general culture that African parents wanted their children to become. Hearing his mum's worries, I understand where they come from. It's just crazy how successful you can be and it doesn't even matter because you're not a doctor, businessman, etc.
I love how spider punk kept trying to tell miles what was up like how he could "just create your own watch" or how he may not actually want to be there and in the end he is the reason beyond the spiderverse will even happen. wish they did one of those things where the first part comes out in the summer and the second in the fall/winter
He was amazing.
We need a Spider Punk and Mayday adventure short!
OMG... I never knew he was the star protagonist of Peele's thriller movies! He literally rocked Hobies voice acting!! Love this guy sm
We need a spider punk series or movie!
Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Punk are gonna be great Anarchist friends.
“I’ve always been this cool”
Just wanna say that representation is only one piece of how powerful Hobie was in the movie. He's just effing amazing all around, such a key piece of Miles Morales' world - from jealousy to mentorship. And I'm glad to see such an amazing character _also_ representing on top of everything else!
Bro I hated spider punk until this movie! You really brought the character to life for me and now one of my favorite versions of spiderman
this man has stood out to me since he was on british shows barely anyone watched, and he dominated this movie with only 5 minutes. He’s TRULY outstanding
Great to see a well presented interview. We need more from Jay London
Loving the vibe of this interview and great questions 👏🏽
Cant wait to see more of him in part two! Always loved Spider Punk from the comics and his more amazing in the film! Thank you for bringing him to life!
Amazing interview! Had me smiling from ear to ear! Such a natural interview, not forced at all. 🙌🏽🖤
im hoping for a solo spiderpunk adaptation so fckn bad
After what happened with his character in black panther, Daniel definitely deserves another chance with Marvel
He has solved every black mans choice for comic con or anime con epic costume and delivery from Kaluuya matched his style so well as a Londoner
Shout to the leader of the DSS 🫡🫡🫡
Man like me is waiting on an application form…
Just watched it today and he was definitely my favorite character. He knocked it out of the park!
“I was this cool the whole time” Spider Punk never forgotten ever
I love seeing all my favorite spider man variations come to life. Been a spider man fan ever since i can remember. By far the best movie/animation.
Yo Daniel’s laugh around 7:06 has me absolutely dying 🤣
the way I felt hearing Daniel's voice in his natural accent in the movie. I was like "yeah this is our guy." 🥰
This guy, and his performance, are both the reason why Spider-Punk is my favorite Spider-Man.
Literally love daniel kaluuya and spider punk this was perfect
The line "its a giant metaphor for capitalism" slayed me. I screeched in the theater. 😂😂
Brilliant casting, gotta say I always get a smile on my face when I see or here him in anything these days.

His voice is just fantastic for voice work. Rich, smooth, and lots of personality.
Well done Daniel you are amazing 😢🎉
Daniel did it again! He is truly on another level
Outstanding interview!
Hobie is SUCH a cool Spiderman character. Love him! And I'm a huge fan of Daniel Kaluuya, have been since I watched him crush his role as Chris Washington in "Get Out".
Great interview, incredible performance as well
His voice is so calming to me Ong like I love spider punk sm 😮
I could listen to him talk all day ❤
Excellent interview!
Great interview! I really loved him in Nope as OJ and it is so apparent he was perfect as Spider Punk! Great movie but needed him in it.
In movie with no idea about Hobie at all I found myself craving more interaction with this character and even more so once unmasked. Became way real and uber kool
me after looking up the cast and seeing hobie brown's voice actior- *gasp* "he was that cool the whole time"?
Daniel was so outstanding as Hobie. Easily one of the best Spider-Man in the movie 😂
Spider-Punk is so cool & chill
