Henry, I'm like you. I don't belong on earth either. I'm not trying to "fit in," I'm just trying to survive. Every morning that I wake up, I'm pissed off because I woke up. Existence is meaningless. So I'm constantly trying to find a reason to continue. This is getting more and more difficult as time goes on. I'm 52 years old now. More days behind me than in front of me. That idea alone gives me solace. Thanks for the rage, Henry.
I like Henry Rollins. Sure I agree with almost everything he says, but that's not why. He's genuine. Theres not enough genuine people. Everyone has to stand out or fit in. No one can just think for themselves and act how they want to act because they want to act that way and not for show of some sort.
Rollins said "I am convinced that some people just don't fit on the planet all that well. Some people are not cut out for life on earth, and that's not because they are better or worse. They just don't fit too well, and I think it's safe to say I am one of those people." Dear Mr. Rollins this is exactly why you are my hero. From one person does not fit to well to another.
Rollins Band was one of the most intense bands I've ever seen live. I remember they blew the power out in the building one night. Only time I ever saw that happen in a venue and I worked there.
Not that Rollins Band was great....but it was cool to have bands like that around. It's a shame that in today's current music environment....bands on that level pretty much can't make a living anymore.
@@NITE_SHIFTING .... I have listened to this band and it's incarnations iterations and everything that has to do with them..... I listen to anything that Barker, Genesis, Connelly... Those guys are great....
Once every now and then, remember to thank and check out Henry Rollins. An actual self-help guide for the fucked up and doomed adolescent I once was. I could only wish for it, but I turned out okay so far. Here it goes; 'thank you MAAAAAAY WARLORD!!!!!!!!!!!!'
@poprocksncoke120 mtv always sucked, it just sucks a little more lately. And you didn't miss anything, some pop shlop largely trivial stuff. Go read a great work of literatrue, esp classics, or some dry philosophy, or learn about science, acces databases from universites and check out what's on the edge in quantum cosmology. You didn't miss anything, but you can finally begin to actually look
5:09 WTF! It looks like a dummy at first when he is pulling the guys hair. Then it appears to be a real person. That looked very weird. Plus it didn't match up with what Henry was saying about how he's "not the mean kind of dude". LOL What?
I love his music, since back in the day! I saw him do spoken word as well, in Madison, WI. We even share a birthday, lol. Feb. 13th. He's 1961, and I'm '65. ♥️
Jim Morrison 1969 "If you say higher on The Ed Sullivan show youll never come back." Jim....sure fine Henry Rollins 1987 Media Manipulator "Punk" Rollins" 7:03 If there wasnt a language restriction on the camera I would melt it.
Slim's San Francisco. End of Silence tour. Best show I have ever seen. Unbelievable energy and great crowd; aside from the crowd surfer who kicked me in the face.
Wrong again. Bad Religion's Greg Graffin sings every word and they are generally regarded as one of the best american punk bands. Learn and think before you speak.
Thank you for posting this. I don't remember seeing this back in the day. I remember on one of Henry's spoken word albums, he talked about "the crazy shit I said to that girl from MTV last night". This must be what he was talking about. The criminal thing is that this live footage looks and sounds like it was from a dynamite gig. That would be a cool thing to see in its entirety. But no, it will gather dust forever because MTV isn't concerned with the past.
They were great before they got media attention. They were great during this era, then they kinda fell off after Andrew left the band. I saw them at CBGBs in 88 for the first tima and I was blown away.
When I was in high school in the 80's. MTV sucked. They played garbage like poison while I was into underground punk stuff. Then Nirvana came out and MTV began exploiting good bands that have been around for years. Now that the 'fad' is over they went back to playing crap.
I don't even know why you're trying to argue about whether or not Jello could sing. I know he couldn't sing for shit, but that is totally unrelated to the original post. You and I can both agree that MTV sucks and should get off the air. Making a reference to a song doesn't call for an argument.
@BigAlbinoDonky "bands on that level pretty much can't make a living anymore" nah that aint true, they just can't get rich and famous, but then again Rollins Band was really rich and famous either so there you go. It did get more exposure at this time though because MTV was all caught up in the brief alternative rock craze and they wanted to chase down anything remotely like that, that they thought were cool and so would make them look cool
@mastadon1976 what do you mean "modern society" what does modern mean to you because I'm pretty sure 1992 was considered modern society too lol. And don't worry, there was just as much weak stuff back then, even tho there was a little more mainstream exposure to more interesting bands at the time, with the success of nirvana and that whole alternative rock thing, but it didn't last. that ok. Go read more, go out and experience physical reality more
oh he could retire if he wanted. maybe not living the high life but my guess is that he could retire and live well. I doubt he would retire though as he has said that he's gotta stay busy. Some people have a drive and energy that they have to expend, they have to expel, or they'd implode. Rollins is one of these people.
I'm from Pgh but I don't think it was a dis. I think he was just saying all cities look the same if you travel so much. A city in ohio looks alot like a city in wyoming when you spend everyday in a new city.
Biafra and Rollins are both really cool and educated guys who even at their age now can both still put on a show and both are still relevant to today. The people who hate them should go listen to Green Day or some other worthless band.
Love this man. Hes from an era were it was cool to be original. now...we all have to just fit in this little box as because its death to the artist and all hail the entertainer. But hey thats at last we still hae Rollins right? Saw him on Sons of Anarchy the other night. Dude is STILL bad ass, acted well and I dont care if he is 50, dude hes sexy as fuck. Yup.
Great video. Thank you for this look back. I wish I would've been into Henry back then. I'm 33 now, and going to catch him for the first time in Portland Ore, on the 13th of October.
I'm looking for one too! It's stupid that there isn't anything on the web about Henry's life it seems. You would think there was a Behind the Music about Rollins or BF.
I'm "one of those people" too, Henry... glad to see your passion and honesty in your spoken word shows is no different than what you shared with audiences for decades before...
Henry, I'm like you. I don't belong on earth either. I'm not trying to "fit in," I'm just trying to survive. Every morning that I wake up, I'm pissed off because I woke up. Existence is meaningless. He's so lucky he had one of the best bands behind him ever
Nathan Justice yeah both black flag and Rollins band sick af I love both
UR talking about soa right ??? state of alert his BEST WORK IMO lol
Rollins said "I am convinced that some people just don't fit on the planet all that well. Some people are not cut out for life on earth, and that's not because they are better or worse. They just don't fit too well, and I think it's safe to say I am one of those people."

All over rhe world happens. Here one in Perú 👍
ending the decade by watching some interviews and listening to great tunes, who's with me?

Back in the days when MTV actually did profiles of bands who wrote, recorded, and toured their asses off.
wow, I forgot that MTV was good, incredible to watch this from 2013
Henry is on Tool`s Undertow album.
In what way ?
He's does some vocals, he goes on this rant, it's so long but so epic
My soul must be iron, cuz my fear is naked. I’m naked and fearless, and my fear is naked.
I remember the days of reeks underground in DC and skating with Hank Garfield back then....
Lifted lots of weight to The End of Silence and Weight while going though some bad times. Rollins' music....damn amazing.
"...black, loud and strong -- like Mohammed Ali"!
7:07
PIGFACE!!!!
.... Now that's some good music....
@@ronaldhickman9953 Soooo true.

@@ronaldhickman9953 Yes! I actually have Chicks, Speed and Futurism on vinyl. Lol. They're awesome.
Is that Karyn Bryant - MMA journo / presenter?
Jello Biafra was never great. He was a shitty singer then, and he's a long - winded activist now.
Once every now and then, remember to thank and check out Henry Rollins.
An actual self-help guide for the fucked up and doomed adolescent I once was.
I could only wish for it, but I turned out okay so far. Here it goes;
'thank you MAAAAAAY WARLORD!!!!!!!!!!!!'
wow this is from 92 when the music was all alive and rockin
not like today....
1:48 AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Rollins at Lollapalooza back in 91. One of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
Me too !
Damn is that a young karen Bryant from ufc lol
5:09 WTF! It looks like a dummy at first when he is pulling the guys hair. Then it appears to be a real person. That looked very weird. Plus it didn't match up with what Henry was saying about how he's "not the mean kind of dude". LOL What?
Shiny Happy People is the jam.
TheAmazingAriel: That's the most hard core song ever recorded!
Pink Fairies song "Do It" at 3:34....nice cover song choice!
I edited this with the producer and admire the man's words more than the music. Lots of angles and resolutions from meals, rehearsal + concert.
I love his music, since back in the day! I saw him do spoken word as well, in Madison, WI. We even share a birthday, lol. Feb. 13th. He's 1961, and I'm '65. ♥️
Maaaaaan, I really miss early 90's MTV.
Jim Morrison 1969 "If you say higher on The Ed Sullivan show youll never come back." Jim....sure fine
Henry Rollins 1987 Media Manipulator "Punk" Rollins" 7:03 If there wasnt a language restriction on the camera I would melt it.
whoa that performance of low self opinion is fuckin kickass
@SuperRikkky Andrew was in the band until about 1994. The album "The End of Silence" came out in 1992.
Slim's San Francisco. End of Silence tour. Best show I have ever seen. Unbelievable energy and great crowd; aside from the crowd surfer who kicked me in the face.
@SuperRikkky Andrew played lolapalooza which happened in the 90's. Whatchoo talkin bout Willis?
FWWWWWWAAAAAARRRR
Wrong again. Bad Religion's Greg Graffin sings every word and they are generally regarded as one of the best american punk bands. Learn and think before you speak.
When I say Rollins Band back in the late eighties, man they were awesome. Hard!
Not any good wtf henry is original they broke the mold when god created henry rollins

I had this video YEARS ago and it got long lost... thank you for posting this !! I got it captured and burned to never lose it again !
I KNEW you would go into semantics about those petty bullshit type of classifications... typical

Me, you and Bill hicks man.
They were great before they got media attention. They were great during this era, then they kinda fell off after Andrew left the band. I saw them at CBGBs in 88 for the first tima and I was blown away.
sometimes i hate henry but most of the times i like him.
heyyy i was at that show haha
When I was in high school in the 80's. MTV sucked. They played garbage like poison while I was into underground punk stuff. Then Nirvana came out and MTV began exploiting good bands that have been around for years. Now that the 'fad' is over they went back to playing crap.
What an edgelord lol
i wish i could see rollins band live
I saw then at Lollapalooza in 91.
Fukin awesome
I forgot how much I loved the musicians in the band around this time, especially Chris - who is such a great guitar player.
Back when MTV was actually about music and still relevant. I miss those days
I don't even know why you're trying to argue about whether or not Jello could sing. I know he couldn't sing for shit, but that is totally unrelated to the original post. You and I can both agree that MTV sucks and should get off the air. Making a reference to a song doesn't call for an argument.

Shiny Happy People was written to take the piss out of manufactured, jolly pop songs
Damnit! So much energy when he performs! He and the band could power a small city!
oh he could retire if he wanted. maybe not living the high life but my guess is that he could retire and live well. I doubt he would retire though as he has said that he's gotta stay busy. @SuperRikkky I'm not doubting your show. I just don't think that was the last tour with Andrew.
@BreakingGlass77 We've already been over this. Rollins Band fell off and MTV was never good.
I don't think MTV was ever good. Fuck that, dude. Like the great Jello Biafra said, "MTV....GET OFF THE AIR!!!"

there's a picture of glenn danzig that looks real similar to the one of henry at 2:21 I think it was around the Lucifuge era.
I'm looking for one too! It's stupid that there isn't anything on the web about Henry's life it seems. You would think there was a Behind the Music about Rollins or BF.
you're right about that...it sounds like i was comparing them. but i wasn't. All i wanted to tell is Rollins is a kind of "Yoda" ;)
Empty V
I'm "one of those people" too, Henry... glad to see your passion and honesty in your spoken word shows is no different than what you shared with audiences for decades before...
wow it'd be an honor and kind of nerve racking to have henry pull my hair like that a palm strike me like he did to that kid lol at 5:16
that's how i feel about it. i miss good fucking hard rock. MTV hasn't really changed that much either.
Go check out the "love's so heavy video". Its PAINFUL to watch..
Sick vid. Henry Rollins has made a huge impact on my life, with his music and books, and this makes it even greater.
back in the day when Rollins band was still good? You mean back in the day when MTV was still good
Yeah, MTV don't play music anymore, false advertising hahaha Rollins kicks ass!!!
don't get between henry and a swimming pool
lol!! Was thinking that exactly! and then didn't he smack that dude in the head!?
What's the name of the show in the beginning of the video ?
I believe I typed hardcore punk sir. Learn and think before you type.
@NIMRODakaNIMROD I take the reality TV part back. Internet porn rules.
Rollins was on stage when Maynard was a baby...anyway, Maynard is good.
@poprocksncoke120 Face it, we live in a time where reality TV rules.
hahaha :D
right ! I mean in the 80's, Keenan was not on stage. ;))
@xxoxxsmash Pretty much a true statement.
He looks like a po lice officer
Peace ✌️ out people
I didnt' care, but I don't live in Pennsylvania.
does nanyone know any basic documentary i can watch on rollins or black flag? like a VH1 or A&E type thing that goes through his career?
