      It's an antique style not as common today... Vintage cabochons like onyx with a diamond set in the center. I'm not a jeweler, so I don't know how they do it but it's possible. 😉

      Diamonds aren't actually rare though..

    • @aydinsha
      @aydinsha 4 года назад +50

      @@Jarlaxl.Baenre high quality white ones are, as are fancy colored ones. Opal isn't "rare" either, but nice ones sure are. Almost no mineral is rare if you're disregarding quality. And value wise, disregarding the cost and time it takes to go from underground ore to a gem on your jewelry.

    • @gjoejoe8046
      @gjoejoe8046 4 года назад +11

      Thats how he can probably make up the difference in loss, add another precious gem as a filler and it might just raise the value of the gem more so then if you are to just leave it how it is, but then again the original later on might turn out to be worth more without the additions, its kinda a gamble on whats going to happen with value of it, but for aesthetics it would be beautiful to see

    Justin, I knapped my first opal arrowhead a couple days ago.
    I told Mr pultzer about it, I'm gonna tell you about it.
    The stone did not speak to me until the third flake removal. It then revealed more blue color play right across the middle. It's Australian.
    It is a crystal with blue color play. It has blue and black potch. Lighter color tone.
    Started the size of a u.s. quarter and finished right at the size of my thumbnail.
    It's a mark of my skill as a flintnapper as I waited over a year with it for it's day.
    Turned out amazing! And now I get to carry it with the other orange jasper arrowhead on my necklace.

    Here's a thought. Inlay a piece of monocrystaline silicon of the type used to make integrated circuits. You can buy polished wafers or even chunks of it fairly inexpensively. It polishes to a dark mirror finish. It also kind of fits because opal is ultimately made of silicon.

    For the life of me, I don't know why if a pattern resembles the actual Chinese written language and you nickname it "Chinese writing" how that's offensive in any way at all. It is literally just an acknowledgment that the pattern resembles the Chinese language in written form. Our planet is doomed I swear.

      It's not offensive to anyone who isn't actively looking to be offended. Could just easily have been Japanese writing, or Korean writing, etc. Many asian nations use pictograph alphabets (and whole words) that look very similar and it isn't a pejorative.

    When you get this stone set in a ring you must show us. I know just how beautiful it will be! Thanks so much. I don’t think there is any other stone/gem that has the opals beauty.

    Call it "circuit board"

      The ring design will be based off the circuit board idea!

      @@blackopaldirect awesome... so I have seen a similar pattern once... on a welo.. but the lines were not as connected as this beauty. When you have cut thousand of carats as you and I have we have the rare opportunity to discover wonderful new opal patterns. That opal is more than likely a one off and you are a lucky man!

    why the hell is chinese writing not "politically correct"!?!
    is not like it's refering to something bad or in a rascist way, is just saying that it kinda looks like chinise writing (althoug I don't see thatmuch of a resemblance) and it's nothing wrong with that!, you gotta by so racist to think that's racist

      Yeah the funny thing is most of these "politically incorrect" names only offend people that aren't of these nationalities or the cancel culture. Pretty sure actual Chinese people are not walking around all day worried about an opal pattern called Chinese writing. Soon the term "Chinese food" will on the cancel culture's hit list. Sterilize everything I guess.

      I have to agree. I don't think it looks like Chinese writing either, but I don't see how calling it that is offensive.

      Just my thoughts but, wouldn’t it be complimentary to compare something as pedestrian as simple writing to a truly beautiful and unique gemstone pattern? I am disheartened to think we live in a world that doesn’t allow complimentary statements. I understand speaking against negativity however, I’d be overjoyed to have anything in my culture compared with beautiful and amazing things. Stay safe and be kind to one another, cheers!

    Why I was freaking out when you drilled out the sand I don’t know but great find , that’s a keeper.

    I like how you’re naming the stone because there’s no name for it. This is how to know that someone has lots of experience in their place of work. Even with the sand spot the stone looks beautiful. Good job! 👍🏽

    Did you contemplate drilling out that sand spot and attaching a chain at that point for a pendant? What a unique piece of jewellery it would make!
