Hi Dave hope we are not the last generation to remember. Not just the disasters, but the ultimate good that came from the struggle against the pit owners too
Afternoon Dave, Thank You again for another very informative film documenting the history of the mining industry in the UK. Very tragic, what happened to the miners so many lost their lives, working in a very dangerous and demanding industry. Your filming is enlightening lots of people including myself on the history of the Coal miners. I believe through films such as yours in the future the communities will always carry on with remembrance services for all those miners who worked in the mines and sadly those miners who lost their lives. Thank You Dave
Very well said Jane Coal miners and their families have suffered so much over the centuries we should never forget the historical contribution they made It will always be remembered how disgracefully they were treated when they were fighting for their livelihoods during the 1984-5 miners strike 🙏🙏🏾🙏🏽
Afternoon Dave, Miners, hard men doing a hard job, especially 150 odd years ago! We must never forget, there but the grace of God go I! Our forebears fought the rights we enjoy today. Unity is strength! Great channel, thanks Dave, all the very best, ✊👍👍👍👍👊✌️🌍.
Thanks for going Dave, had I not been at work I'd have been there, was there at the unveiling... We shouldn't ever forget the real price of coal and the fact that we still have brothers laying underground where they worked... May they rest well, their shift is done...
Uplifting to see so many people turning out to remember the lives of these brave men. It's vital to remember. On November 19, 2010 29 men were killed in two explosions at the Pike River Mine on the West Coast of the South Island. A Royal Commission of Inquiry found egregious failures by mine management, including serious breaches of the law. But at this stage no-one has been held criminally responsible.
Yes Steve. It’s important that we remember all disasters underground. Should not be having explosions in 2010 with all the technology around 🤔. So that tells me it was bad management. That’s the trouble with privately owned mines. Profit over People 👍
Blimey Dave, that's alot of casualties. Good to keep the memory going, great community spirit once again. Thanks for bringing to my attention, means alot does this👏👏👏
Good day to you Dave and thanks for sharing. A beautiful memorial and lovely people! G-d rest the souls of the Dead. Solidarity with the Living ✊🏻✊🏾✊🏼✊🏽
We MUST remember Dave. In a pit near to my home village of Silverdale in North Staffs there was an explosion at Apedale Colliery (Burley Pit) in early 1878. More than 20 men and boys died - the youngest was 13 (THIRTEEN!!). In February 1879 (one year later) wages were reduced by 10%. Will things never change?
Little doubt there were some terrible tragedies in the Mining Industry over many years. Let’s hope the remembrance will carry on and hope that young lass can remind others.
Great video Dave. Wish I'd known, I probably would have gone ( glen ) now that I'm a kept man, ha ha. Numerous big disasters with hundreds killed at once in British ( and foreign ) coal mines. When I started my training with NCB, one of the lecturers asked the group of us new recruits " how many men have to die before it can be classed as a disaster?". We all looked at each other until the lecturer answered his own question. " One man" he said, " that's a disaster to him, his friends and family". Doesn't make big headlines though does it until a colliery explodes, catches fire, floods, roof falls in, etc, and kills a number of men ( and kids in cases like Oaks). I imagine thousands of pit ponies have also died frightening, violent or sometimes slow deaths as well. Are there any monuments for them? Hope so. All the best to everyone on here!
I'm from a mining family from Coatbridge and I have the local history of how coal and iron ore was taken from the area. Makes depressing reading! Coatbridge is now one of the most deprived areas in Britain - SHAMEFUL 🤬
Morning James. Very well brother thanks. Hope you are too 👍. David Jones\Joe Green memorial in March. Also they are planning something big for the 50th anniversary of The Lofthouse disaster also in March. December 22nd Grimethorpe Menorial remembrance it’s usually well attended 👍

Cheers Liz ✊

The coal mined by the miners that built Britain came at a high price and deserve to be remembered as much as any soldier that died for the country.

Hi Darryl. Will they ever change ? Good question. Things did change, but we appear to be regressing after 12 years of the Tories 😬

Yes I sincerely hope it’s always remembered David. 👍

Well said Glen lad. As a generation of coal miners we had it very easy compared to the people who went before us 👍

Morning Robert. Most mining area are run down sadly. You can’t take the life blood out of the village and expect it to prosper 😬
I am not asking that I think it is amazing that people never forget bless you dave
Cheers Anne 👍
Cheers Dave💚💚💚
Cheers Cheesy ✊👍
Coal came at a high price. I say that as NATO bombs the biggest nuclear power station in Europe. That's what value our leaders put on life.
True Davy lad. Thru don’t give a fcuk about us 🤔
Wished I'd know about it. I went to the unveiling a few years ago. Hope you're well mate?
