    The thing I've noticed after using a R89 for a couple of years now is that the cut angle isn't as aggressive as your average Merkur. This means that if you're using bog standard razors from Russia or Morroco you'll need to do more passes to get a smooth shave and it seems kind of ineffective. However, when you go and use razors that would otherwise be pretty dangerous in a Merkur like Feather, it actually works very well with less risk of slicing your face up.
    In other words, a Muhle is a better beginner razor if you pair it with the stupidly sharp blades like Feather. A gentler cut angle + really sharp blades = somewhat easier, but also very close shave that only requires 3 passes at the most.

    Do you know if the R 41 stainless steel head is stainless steel. I got my regular R 41 today and it’s the best double edge razor I’ve ever owned. It’s not aggressive. It’s efficient. One pass. No blood.

    When your hands are wet the grip gets better lol cause I have the r41 and I’m pretty sure all the handles are the same besides the Grande

    I just got mine today and the quality is 100%. The handle could be more grippy. And the overhang on the side of the blade is annoying. Why would they design the blade to be exposed on the sides. Happy with my purchase.

    Muhle is top notch in my book and I own 3 R41's and two R89's all "Grande" versions. If you want weight, check out the Mongoose Razors, it almost shave you by itself and they are unreal. The craftsmanship is second to none.

    yes. the blade gap is almost nothing. maybe best for baby face types. need big time down force pressure for a close shave, but then your stuck with the irratation. but pretty razor

    I currently have a Merkur slant bar and used the fact that we are having the bathroom overhauled as an excuse to get some new shave stuff. I've ordered the Muhle R89 rose gold. The Merkur I have has too short a handle even for my smallish hands so hopefully this will be more comfortable.

    i need an advice from an expert Merkur 34C or a muhle R89, i didn't use a safety razor and i don't know what to purchase, what do you(or other people) recomand( also i'm going to use taylor of the old bond street shaving soap + balm.)

      They're both great, you can't really go wrong. The 34c has a shorter handle and is heavy and balanced. The R89 has a longer handle and is head-heavy.

    btw just saw the Mühle R89G ..the G apparently it stands for grande..
    total length 3,6inch handgrip 3,1inch weight 90grams (i'm converting mm to inch)
    You mentioned that the Merkur 38C could have a better grip for right handed people like me..so i think the R89G could be the one..

      +Olaf Peuss living in Netherland i found a couple of stores that sell them..for around €45 seems like a good razor.. But getting all the rest to start with comes around a whopping €207 ouch..that hurts.. i guess that's what you would have to pay for quality.. i really dislike buying cheap crap ...But that doesn't mean i don't like to get a awesome welcome discount code hahah.. ;-)

    • @samdeur
      @samdeur 8 лет назад

      +Olaf Peuss you're right it's kind of expensive but that's if i buy all my supply from one or two web shops..
      here is my list..
      Mühle R89G €45 .. Muhle shaving bowl €17 ..Mühle Classic Silvertip €70 .. razor and brus stand €25 that's €150 total and that's not all of it.. But i found an alternative..and i'm getting a best badger and a shaving bowl from Amazon Germany saving €45 and all the rest i going to cost what it needs to costs.. what ever i'm fed up with electric shaving anyway..

    As a new DE shaver I researched different razors and purchased the Muhle 89. I really am enjoying
    wet shaving and wish I would have converted years ago. The razor seems to be well designed and
    the I get a nice shave. The handle was disappointing as it was very light and the knurling was very
    shallow which made the grip difficult. I ordered a Ikon OSS stainless steel handle which is longer,
    much heavier and has aggressive,deep knurling resulting in a far superior shaving experience

    • @Lycosa
      @Lycosa 6 лет назад

      For me the knurling is enough, it's not the best but satisfactory. Handle being light feels good. Then the head can do the work. I like the razor in all myself. But thats fine

  • @rickytomatoes

    So which came first: the R89 or DE89?

    • @seybertooth9282
      @seybertooth9282 5 лет назад +3

      Neither.
      Muhle and EJ designed the head together (they based it on a Dovo design, I believe). The metal heads are also manufactured in the same place, but each company does their own plating and of course their own handles. So: shaving geometry is identical, finish and handles are not.

      I just got this as my first DE razor after switching from cartridge. I used rapira blades they are a Russian brand and rated 7/10 for sharpness. I wasn’t game to put feather blades in until I knew what I was doing. I applied zero pressure, not even a nick, zero razor burn and I made 3 passes. I really took my time though. I have sensitive skin and normally get razor burn on my neck area with a cartridge razor.

      That's one thing I like about MUHLE is that you can change the heads so can save you from buying a Razor, in the UK Ebay I've seen the heads go for like £18, I'm thinking I might just get the head as I use the R89, open combs are a bit aggressive for my skin.

      If you knew how to use a razor correctly, then an "Open Comb" can be used just like a "Closed Comb" (it all depends on the angle and pressure).
