- The lighting rings surrounding the twin circular headlights, first seen in 2001, produce the car's characteristic four-eyes face, ensuring the recognisability of a BMW, even by night. They also signify the innovative leadership of BMW. The LED-powered lighting rings produce a uniform white light that characterises the four-eyes face of all BMW vehicles by day and night, guaranteeing unique recognisability at all times.
The use of space-saving LED lights or bright and efficient laserlights produces a number of additional functional design options. In addition, it is possible to use deep light units, such as precision-built 3D light tubes or high-tech three dimensional luminaire glass to further emphasise the premium quality of a BMW.
The L-shaped design of the tail lights on BMW models is just as characteristic as the lighting design of the front lighting units. This typical design feature mainly underlines the width of the tailgate, visually emphasising its imposing bulk and stability, making it unmistakable by day or night. LED light strips or light units sharpen the L-shaped design by night and enhance the recognisability of a BMW even after dark.
In future, Organic light diodes (OLEDs) in the BMW Organic Light will offer designers a whole range of new options. Thanks to their flexibility and extremely low clear height, as well as their ability to produce a very even, non-dazzling level of light across their entire surface and the fact that individual modules can be controlled separately, OLEDs will be the perfect lighting element for future lighting scenarios involving rear lights or turn signals.

I have an I8 with the laser light upgrade but they don't seem to be adaptive. I have no cornering or variable light distribution. Please tell me they can do this and it wasn't a waste of money.

Dammit. Why do the lasers kick in only with the auto hi-beam option, I had hoped you could flash them to get dumb people who drive 20 under the limit in the fast lane out of your way...
Auto assisted high-low beam??? Come on, the matrix headlights on the Audi A8 2015 can do a lot more than that. Also, the limited number of light variations on the headlight design will not be sufficient to cover all road conditions.

God no.... if that car hits a bumb everyone the opposite lain is blinded.. already hate those people with HID high beams in there stuppid m3's blinding me all day long.
did you even listen what the guy was saying? they'll be using the on coming traffic system which does not blind the opposing car
EricRuzz i know but the lights wont be able to keep up with bumbs and gaps in the road. So meaning if that cars drives on a bad road the traffic comming the other way will see the lights going up and down all cars have this problem only makes it worse if they use utra bright lights/lasers
Remy van den Nouweland No, the laser lights are only used for the second stage of the high beams. They aren't used for stage one high beams or low beams.
Camera based? What is replacement costs when they break ? Yikes !!
expensive. BMW is at the forefront of many new technologies though. As supply goes up, cost will go down. Just takes one innovative company to have the stones to try it first. then everyone will copy.
Well, literally very little. The laser just turns on and off-- exactly the same as in a CD player that costs less than a CD. The camera is just a simple camera, not a 4K hi-definition camera. Those come on every cell phone made in the past 5 years, even the cheap throw-away ones, as well as on disposable digital cameras sold in drug stores and on kids keychain pendants, so again, very cheap.
Buying these from BMW in a form compatible with their headlight system? Not cheap. But then nobody buys a new top of the line BMW because they're cheap cars, so it's just economies of scale and market forces at play. All of the components themselves are basically already at commodity-level prices though, so there's literally nothing holding any manufacturer back from doing the same thing for very little actual cost.
This car is so fucking sexy give it 550 horse power twin turbo engine I'll buy , without all that it's still good
buy an good old E36 cabriolet and enjoy 5000€ ride !
