Little bit about why Frodo and other hobbits can hold onto the ring so easily. The ring looks into people and shows that it could give them their most deepest desire in order to trick them into holding onto it so Sauron could get it back. For Aragorn and Boromir it could show them how they could use it to unite their people and use their influence over their people to amass great armies to fight their enemies; Gandalf could see how it could enhance his powers to become a stronger force to be reckoned with but knows that it will deceive him in the end, thus he makes Frodo take it. (Paraphrasing a bit). But for hobbits...they don't really desire much for themselves, they are laid back and easy folk who go with the flow, and as such, don't get corrupted as easy.
Yeah, as a matter of fact when Sam has the ring later on, all it can really show him is that, with the ring, he could turn Mordor into a beautiful garden, because for Sam gardening is more or less his only desire and ambition in life.
But the Ring was slowly corrupting Frodo by the time of Return of the King. Especially when they reached Mount Doom. Though I think the Ring's willpower went at it's strongest because it sensed how close it was to it's master and how close it was to being destroyed. That's how I see it, how the Ring didn't corrupt Frodo right away with dark and deep desires. Unless the Ring took advantage of Frodo's slight unwillingness to part with it.

the reason why gimli getting the 3 hairs from galadriel is so important because way back in the first age one of the greatest elves that ever lived wanted to create gems that captured the beauty of the 2 trees (the 2 trees were at where the (pretty much gods) valar lived before saurons master destroyed them. so the elf Feanor asked galadriel for 3 hairs because her hair shone silver and gold at the same time (1 tree was silver the other gold) and she refused him. feanor asked 2 more times and she said no everytime because she looked into his heart and saw greed and selfishness. When gimli asked for one hair she gave him 3 because when she looked into his heart she saw loyalty and kindness, and as you may know most dwarves and elves hate eachother so it was a great step in dwarves and elves relationship and legolas knew that aswell. So she refused one of the greatist elves to ever live a hair to create the most beautiful gems ever mad and gave a dwarf 3 hairs when he only asked for one.
Something the films don't do a really good job of communicating is the time that passes between scenes. For example: the reason Bilbo is so much older in Rivendell isn't just because he no longer has the ring. It's been almost 20 years since he left the Shire.

Christopher Lee was not only an actor (Saruman) but also gave advice on the film. He not only had read LOTR every year since it had been published, but he was a personal friend of JRR Tolkien. Few men alive knew the story as much as he did. Also about Christopher Lee: he was an amazing guy...please look him up on the internet/IMDB. His movies were part of the assortment with which I grew up, and I can tell you he is worth 10 minutes of research.
Christopher Lee was also apart of the British OSS, the fore runner of MI6, during WW2. And because of his work during the war, he became the inspiration for his Step-Cousin, Ian Fleming's famous character, James Bond! Amongst many other movies, he was also known for playing Count Dracula in several Hammer Horror movies. In an interview he gave once on a chat show, he said that he was driving through Eastern Europe with his wife, and his car broke down one night. So he went to this farm house near to where they were, to get help, or make a call. What he didn't know, being on the road, was that the local TV station had been showing several of the Hammer Horror films, including Dracula films. So when he knocked on the door, with his best polite smile, the guy that opened the door to one look at him, cried out "it is he!" and promptly passed out!
Also Ian McLellan was making sure everything was close enough to the book? He would walk around with the books in hand making sure his character and everyone else's, was close to the OG source material.. its why LOTR's was so much better then the Hobbit films..
Thought I could wait until next week to watch both parts at once.. lasted 4min into your premier 😂 love how appreciative and invested you sound already. And yes, everything about this movie, including the music, is epic. Can't wait to continue along!
This is my first video I've watched from you and so far it's the most enjoyable LOTR reaction I've ever seen! You are very genuine and pleasant to watch! It is also great to see you can actually pick up plot lines :D Many people are very confused haha. Keep up the great work!
The hairy feet are typical for Hobbits. They don't wear shoes at all, but their feet are very durable and thus they can easily walk as if they had shoes. And the hair just keeps them warm
New subscriber here. You are easily one of, if not the best reactors on this platform. So warm and funny and genuine. Thank you for being a light. I very much look forward to the second portion of this reaction. :) It is so enjoyable to re-watch these movies through the eyes of someone who has not yet seen them.
If you seriously believe he hasn't seen any of these monumentally famous movies until the last 2 years, you're nuts. It's a schtick. Take the matrix? He only saw that a few months ago?. Rubbish. All the movies on this channel. All first time. So he wasn't allowed to watch TV growing up. Such a lie. People believe so easily. It's about making $$$.
I hold these movies so close to me. I grew up watching them with my dad. He refused to watch any version except the extended additions. We’d spend the whole weekend watching the first two movies. I love them all so much, and I genuinely feel like they are not talked about enough. Of course the films are award winning, but in average lives people don’t talk about these masterpieces. Thanks for the reaction. ☺️
My dad and I did the same exact thing. He didn’t let me watch Return of the King till I was about 14 or so, but he showed me the claymation version of the Hobbit when I was 6, which I have watched only once again now that I’m 29, and honestly, I would’ve been okay seeing Return of the King, but I get it. My dad was just making sure I could handle it.
Oh, it's more than just a movie to me. this is one solid masterpiece! the plot, the characters, the atmosphere and, of course, the music. I look forward to continuing!
1. another beautiful journey begins 2. i died when you said "my precious' 3. we all noticed the HP reference haha cant wait to see the rest, great video!!
I still remember reading the Hobbit, and LORD OF THE RINGS in sixth grade… and the Silmarillion in seventh. Watched the movies at about the same time! Great memories
Epic! So excited to see you react to this Seb! 👏👏👏👏 As a New Zealander and one who's home city is Wellington these films have a special place in my heart. Added to the fact I am a huge Tolkein nerd - having read the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillon and the History of Middle Earth numerous times long before the films were made this series of films is just so exciting for me - then & now! You're in for a hell of a ride! The music *is* brilliant in their whole trilogy - Howard Shore won the Oscar for Soundtrack 3 years in a row for them.
Picking up on story beats that aren't spoon fed to the viewer, appreciating the music, admiring and taking in just about everything the film has to offer-- Truly a man of culture 👏
I would honestly recommend watching all the audio commentary versions of this movie. The information is amazing. Eg. Viggo’s first day filming was the fight against the Black Riders. He literally learnt it as he was going because he was called in later, after Stuart Townsend was sacked in the role.
I didn't think you would do both of these franchises so close togeather and they are my favourites too, when i was this thumbnail you made me so happy :)
after all those years, I still think that the soundtracks portrait the most perfect picture for all the characters, both the story-wise, world wise, races-wise (Mordor, Orks, Hobbits, Elfs, Humans) they have their unic sound/music that as soon as you hear it, it know and feel how perfect it is. Every time I have goosebumps. Some of the score just makes me cry every single time, so full of beauty, bittersweetness, earning, power, courage, love and hope. Truly the best trilogy in the whole cinematography for me
On the one hand I'm sad that I have to wait for two parts to watch the whole movie with you, on the other hand it is way better to handle it that way so we can see much more of your reactions to our favourite franchises. I love LoTR, it is the precursor to most modern fantasy concepts and I'm shook that some people haven't seen it yet. The books are better, of course, but those movies are some of the best book to movie adaptations out there ever in human history imo.
I rewatched the extended editions at the start of lockdown as it was the perfect time to binge. Such an epic set of movies. Loved this reaction (sorry I’m late) but I’m pumped for the rest 🙌🏼
While I do enjoy Harry Potter, most of the similarities were Harry Potter copying off of LOTR rather than the other way around. There is so much good trivia with this, it's a good idea to watch it alone because the fans (including me) can't resist dropping bits in there LOL. With 248 comments so far, I don't know if anyone mentioned this one but Sean Astin purposely gained 40lbs to play Sam.
The thing about Harry Potter as well is that it's lore has a lot of holes in it and that the creator (forgot her name lmao) just makes up new lore without any explanation which conflicts with the already existing lore
all filmed back to back in New Zealand! Hardly any post processing effects in the scenic shots. NZ really does look that good (as an Aussie whos been before)
Great reaction to a great trilogy! I was in New-Zealand when they were shooting the Hobbit and spent 3 weeks visiting most sets and locations. 10 years later, I still get goosebumps every time I see a place and remember being at the same spot as the cast and crew! You can still visit Hobbiton today!
The Weathertop scene were the Nazgul attacked on the hill has a lot of plot. Nazguls powers are build on the fear of their enemys and Aragorn had zero fear fighting them + used the most effective weapon against Nazguls "fire". The fire is the biggest weakness outshadowing their fear of water
One of the things i love about LotR is the naming... everything has such cool, original names and then the big bad evil guys volcano is "Mount Doom" (although i imagine in lore it probably has another name).
I’ve seen A LOT of movie reactions on yt and you’re one of my faves already. Exactly the type of friend I wanna watch films with 🥰 Doesn’t get better than LotR.

Thanks for sharing this. I love your enthusiasm! Like for so many others, these are some of my all time favourite movies. I read the books for the first time when I was about 11, and have re-read them at least 10 -15 times over the years. These movies are doing such a good job of catching the atmosphere from the books, and I love them for it. So it is SO great to see your enthusiasm! I find myself sitting here, nodding and grinning and going "I know, right?!?!" to all your comments on the good stuff 😁 Looking forward to seing more. You got a "subscribe" from me for this one! 😉

I loved your Harry Potter reactions and you have no idea how excited I am when I heard that you would be reacting to my favourite movie series of all time! Let's goooo
You asked, "what do they want with the trees?", when Saruman was tearing them down. He was building an army and needed to forge weapons and armor. That takes a lot of wood for fire for the forges.
Oh what a trip to have found your channel through Legally Blonde and end up here. 😅 These movies came out when I was a teenager, and I was absolutely all about them. So nice to enjoy them again with you.

Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took are cousins. I love these two hobbits, they appear small and insignificant at first, but they are great. You may not like him, Saruman, but Gandalf has style!
Hello My friend. Thanks for your video. I love the lord of the rings saga along with Harry Potter. They are magnificent. The fellowship of the ring si amazing. I loved your reactions. Tolkien's work si second to none. I send you a hug. God bless You.
It was filmed all in New Zealand, Seb. The movie set is permanently set up for tours now and you can enter a couple of the Hobbit homes. You should go there. Where Gandalf bumped his head was not planned it happened accidentally and Peter Jackson kept it. in.
@@erikperhs_ well you can, all fantasy has links back to the LOTR considering it is high fantasy and basically made people take the genre seriously and was released before everything else (books 1950s, movies 2000s)
@@erikperhs_ inspired by is probably the correct term, in some ways there are some blatant copying of material. But Rowling read and took inspiration from LOTR with the same concept just different portrayal. www.mugglenet.com/2013/11/similarities-between-harry-potter-and-lord-of-the-rings/ is a good link that shows several of the same idea
@@erikperhs_ it just sounds like your a hardcore Harry Potter fan who can’t seem to acknowledge the majority of the inspiration behind it. But you do you. I sent one link, go and do some research if you can’t take it seriously
Also, little piece of lore that sadly doesn't get brought up in the movies. Gandalf and Saruman are beings called Maiar, who are effectively low ranking angels in Middle Earth. So was Sauron, hence why Gandalf couldn't risk taking the ring. He'd basically become another Sauron. Oh, also, the Balrog is the same kind of creature, hence why Gandalf was able to temporarily hold it off on the bridge
Also Gandalf was seriously holding back with all of his powers during the entire trilogy. He was commanded by the Valar and I believe even Eru to be only a support role and offer guidance.
Surely someone already pointed up that point, But due to scenaristic reasons between movie and books Arwen saves Frodo and calls the spirits river to flush the black riders when in the book, it's Glorfindel that rides him and Elrond who make the river flush the Nazguls
ooh this is going to be fun. then ill watch the harry potter ones too as those books were my child to adulthood! The music is just so epic. we had the concerning hobbits playing as we signed the register at our wedding!
Very nice reaction and you’ve done the extended version, too. Well done! I see you like Rivendell and I can totally see you as an elf. Just need to don a long wig and some pointy ears. Bonus point if you are tall. Excited to see the next one.
24:53 nothing is better than the shire, my friend. if it were a real place, i'd live there till the end of my days. edit: also, sam is the real hero of this story. you'll understand that by the end.
I love these films. They really transport you and make you believe this world is real. OT but I love your reactions as you have such a soothing tone to your voice. 🙂
In the first age of Arda (the world of Middle Earth) before the sun and moon, before the humans or elves, one of the Valar, Aüle, the smith, a worker of crafts and embodiment of stone and metals, created his own race because he was so impatient for the awakening of Elves and Men. He made them shorter in stature and tough, so they could survive. When Eru, basically God, found what he’d done, He was angry with Aüle, and Aüle repented by offering to smash the dwarves he’d made. Eru, however, took pity on them, as they begged for their lives. They hadn’t asked to be created, and it would be cruel to destroy them for the sins of Aüle in creating them without Eru’s permission, so Eru adopted them. He had Aüle put them into a deep sleep until the waking of the other children (Elves and then Men) but warned Aüle that because they were his adopted children, and not original children of Eru, that there would be strife between them and Eru’s true children. This ended up being correct as Elves and Men often had unpleasant problems with the dwarves.
HP is meh, first two were fun children mystery flicks then they started becoming cringy teenage drama stories. LOTR is vastly superior but also barely comparable

Best trilogy of all time❤️
It is very good so far
Thought I could wait until next week to watch both parts at once.. lasted 4min into your premier 😂 love how appreciative and invested you sound already. And yes, everything about this movie, including the music, is epic. Can't wait to continue along!
🤣 haha yeah I love this trilogy already
This is my first video I've watched from you and so far it's the most enjoyable LOTR reaction I've ever seen! You are very genuine and pleasant to watch! It is also great to see you can actually pick up plot lines :D Many people are very confused haha. Keep up the great work!
Great to hear that Tobias!
29:07 you see how they sneaked in even with such a tight security for council meeting. Yeah that's why Hobbits are amazing for this task.
The hairy feet are typical for Hobbits. They don't wear shoes at all, but their feet are very durable and thus they can easily walk as if they had shoes. And the hair just keeps them warm
At the bottom of there feet are naturally formed leather soles that's why there feet are durable.
New subscriber here.
You are easily one of, if not the best reactors on this platform.
So warm and funny and genuine. Thank you for being a light.
I very much look forward to the second portion of this reaction. :)
It is so enjoyable to re-watch these movies through the eyes of someone who has not yet seen them.
Thanks Jeff! Means a lot :)
@@SebScreen You’re welcome!
Your genuine reaction, and picking up on all the details is quite entertaining
Thanks Patrick!
1. another beautiful journey begins
2. i died when you said "my precious'
3. we all noticed the HP reference haha
cant wait to see the rest, great video!!
Haha really glad you liked it!
Just to think i saw this for the First time 20 years ago...still feel the magic today every time i see it. Thanks for posting this video.
First 7 minutes of SebScreen reacting to this movie: "Wow! Ooh! OOOOOOhhhh! Ahhhhh! O-ho-ho!"
The actor who plays Gimli is John Rhys-Davis who was Indiana Jones helper at the snake pit.
I wish I could watch/read this story for the first time again.
I still remember reading the Hobbit, and LORD OF THE RINGS in sixth grade… and the Silmarillion in seventh. Watched the movies at about the same time! Great memories
Epic! So excited to see you react to this Seb! 👏👏👏👏
As a New Zealander and one who's home city is Wellington these films have a special place in my heart.
Thats so awesome. Yh I love the music it is no suprise
Man glad your reacting to the greatest films of all time. You wont be disappointed.
I didn't think you would do both of these franchises so close togeather and they are my favourites too, when i was this thumbnail you made me so happy :)
Haha well your welcome Richard! Gotta keep you all busy during lockdown :p
@@SebScreen
after all those years, I still think that the soundtracks portrait the most perfect picture for all the characters, both the story-wise, world wise, races-wise (Mordor, Orks, Hobbits, Elfs, Humans) they have their unic sound/music that as soon as you hear it, it know and feel how perfect it is. Every time I have goosebumps. Some of the score just makes me cry every single time, so full of beauty, bittersweetness, earning, power, courage, love and hope. Truly the best trilogy in the whole cinematography for me
I’m so excited for all the movies your going to love them
Wow I’ve never had a RUclipsr like my comment thanks man
Haha your very welcome man
@@SebScreen again 😂. How are you today
The most fateful decision of middle earth so to speak was that which sent Sam along for the ride.
You're in for a wild ride.. very emotional movie series.. one of the best ever if not the best. Cannot wait for the following reactions
I am so jealous of people who get to watch LOTR for the first time
Greatest soundtrack in film or television history . Absolutely unbelievable
20:11 its a medieval setting. they need the trees for the wood to fuel their industry to make weapons and armour for their army
These movies were so much fun watching in a packed theatre with my fellow nerds at midnight opening day.
I can't even imagine the experience. I guess closeses to it would be me with Infinity war and Endgame for mcu.
It's the other way around Rowling nicked half of her harry potter characters from Tolkien ;)
she always carried the lotr books with her on university
Not to mention the horcrux concept
I rewatched the extended editions at the start of lockdown as it was the perfect time to binge. Such an epic set of movies.
Loved this reaction (sorry I’m late) but I’m pumped for the rest 🙌🏼
I'm a little late to the party but I'm enjoying ur movie reactions! LOTR is THE BEST TRILOGY EVER (& soundtrack) 💚💚💚
My precious! Probably the most famous line in the movie. (Scroll down to Jeff (new sub), still holds true today).
all filmed back to back in New Zealand!
Hardly any post processing effects in the scenic shots. NZ really does look that good (as an Aussie whos been before)
Facts! I went there (from Sweden) after seeing the movies and it's almost like they didn't even manage to capture the true beauty!
Yep. Mount Doom is the name in the "Common Speech". It's also called Orodruin.
LOTR trilogy is still a masterpiece after 20 years
Congrats on 5k! Can’t wait for the next reaction!
Your reactions are so touching and honest. I’ve seen that from no other reaction people. Thank you!
I’ve seen A LOT of movie reactions on yt and you’re one of my faves already. Exactly the type of friend I wanna watch films with 🥰
Doesn’t get better than LotR.
22:27 the screaming Orc has always been a funny moment to me. I always imagined he burned himself or hammered his fingers while forging lol I was about 9-10 yo when this came out. The first time i watched it, it scared me a bit.
Greatest trilogy ever made
your reactions to this film made me happy 😆 i can't wait for the next two movies!!
When a video catches the sound of drawing out the insects under the tree, you know you have a good quality reaction.
"I love how these orcs aren't CGI. They look so good." Part of the reason the Hobbit trilogy was so disappointing...
So excited to go on this journey with you, loving it already. Keep up the great content!
I find myself sitting here, nodding and grinning and going "I know, right?!?!" to all your comments on the good stuff 😁
Looking forward to seing more.
You got a "subscribe" from me for this one! 😉
I met Elijah Wood, Sean Austin, and John Rhys Davis at comic con. I got their autographs on my copy of Lord of the Rings.
Love your reaction! It is such a wonderful feeling to watch you seeing my favourite movies for the first time. 😊 Can't wait too watch the next part and Lord of the rings movies. I think you will love the trilogy very much!
Thanks Angelika! Good to see you here :) im already loving it
I loved your Harry Potter reactions and you have no idea how excited I am when I heard that you would be reacting to my favourite movie series of all time! Let's goooo
Thanks so much!!
You asked, "what do they want with the trees?", when Saruman was tearing them down. He was building an army and needed to forge weapons and armor. That takes a lot of wood for fire for the forges.
Don't worry, Saruman destroying the forest will come back to bite him later
It's finally here, can't wait to see you see this.
I love seeing people enjoy these wish I could forget and rewatch them a new I mean lord of the rings is what inspired game of thrones and Harry Potter
Oh what a trip to have found your channel through Legally Blonde and end up here. 😅 These movies came out when I was a teenager, and I was absolutely all about them. So nice to enjoy them again with you.
The original books were published in 1954. A lot of fantasy stories copied this story, but got adapted into films first.
Trilogy Of Lord Of The Ring Extended Edition:
(1) The Felloship Of The Ring
(2) The Two Tower
(3) The Return Of The King
Trilogy Of The Hobbit Extended Edition:
(1) An Unexpected Journey
(2) The Desolation Of Smaug
(3) The Battle Five Armie
Adventures of Bilbo Baggin
there you are
Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took are cousins.
Where Gandalf bumped his head was not planned it happened accidentally and Peter Jackson kept it. in.
In the book, 17 years pass between Gandalf leaving Frodo after Bilbo's party and returning.
Só the very beginning of this video made me think I want a 1 hour compilation of Seb laughing in different ways, hehehe, hohoho, heeheeehe.
Just to make clear, Harry Potter copied a lot from LOTRs. LOTR is fantastic.
Yh I can see haha
Wow! First time I see someone with Pierangeli as a profile pic! She’s one of my favourite underrated vintage actresses.
YES YES YES
I've been waiting for this!
Gandalf research in Minas Tirith for 12 Years to find out who else say "My Precoius"
Christopher Lee plays Sauroman the White Wizard. He played Dracula once in the Hammer Horror movies.
I have watched this movie back in Janurary, this year, and it was AWESOME.
Surely someone already pointed up that point,
But due to scenaristic reasons between movie and books
Arwen saves Frodo and calls the spirits river to flush the black riders when in the book, it's Glorfindel that rides him and Elrond who make the river flush the Nazguls
ooh this is going to be fun. then ill watch the harry potter ones too as those books were my child to adulthood!
🤣 well I am tall
Just wondering what happened to Part 2? I could have sworn I saw it posted but now it’s gone... Am I imagining things?
24:53 nothing is better than the shire, my friend. if it were a real place, i'd live there till the end of my days.
edit: also, sam is the real hero of this story. you'll understand that by the end.
I love these films. They really transport you and make you believe this world is real. OT but I love your reactions as you have such a soothing tone to your voice. 🙂
"Shut up, he's Underhill" kkk don't know why, but that comment was too funny kk
Great first part!
Omg one of my favorites trilogy movies!!
Love ur voice and ur #smile
Aight, I already left a comment, but I'm doing another! Had a blast with the chat and all. Awesome, but I need more...
Cant wait!!! One of my favorite movies besides Harry Potter of course!
Haha Yeah good ol Potter!
HP is meh, first two were fun children mystery flicks then they started becoming cringy teenage drama stories. LOTR is vastly superior but also barely comparable
They aren't comparable stories dude
