    On the one hand, I agree that it doesn't make logical sense that Arishem needs a nerf when we don't know how powerful he is. On the other hand, something I learned from Hearthstone is that popularity, not power, is the main reason to nerf something in a CCG. People don't really care if something is powerful but they rarely lose to it - the Namora deck I used to get to Infinite and get my first Infinite Conquest victory is a great example. What people hate is the perception that they are losing to the same thing over and over again. Unfortunately, because people remember losing more than they remember winning, this means that a 50% winrate archetype that makes up 20% of the meta will generate far more anger than a 60% winrate deck that takes up 2% of the meta. I suspect SD will ride out the season and see how Arishem's playrate fares once Deadpool stuff drops, but if he's still prominent, and maybe even distracts from people trying out the new cards, I'd guess we see a nerf with the first OTA. It might not even be a consequential nerf - take a power or two off of Arishem, for example - just something to make people wonder whether it's time to enjoy something else.

    • @HooglandiaSnap
      @HooglandiaSnap  5 дней назад +57

      Popularity is 100% a metric you nerf around, but freaking out about popularity of the most hype card to ever release 2 days later is very silly.

    • @benkpeltz
      @benkpeltz 5 дней назад +4

      @@HooglandiaSnap oh for sure. To be clear, I wasn't trying to say that I want him to be nerfed. I've mostly been playing Conquest and haven't faced nearly as much of Arishem as others seem to be. I think I've just come to expect people to begin freaking out whenever a card or archetype gets this popular. Fortunately it doesn't happen too often in Snap and the team is so proactive about balance changes that I don't expect them to ignore it for long if the complaints grow.

    • @benkpeltz
      @benkpeltz 5 дней назад +1

      @@Bishcona I hope so, but I'm not sure. Admittedly, my experience with CCGs is limited to Hearthstone, so I don't have many points of comparison. That said, it strikes me that Arishem is the kind of card that people absolutely love. The randomness, the strong start of game effect, and the way that he alters the deck building rules seems like a formula for a long-term fan favourite. Fortunately, that's likely to continue even if they nerf him, since players remain devoted to cards like this even if they're not highly competitive. Baron Zemo is the most recent similar example I can think of - messing with your opponent is another one of those things that some people will gravitate towards no matter how well it fares objectively.

    • @shai310
      @shai310 5 дней назад +5

      Yep, I think Arishem is very similar to High Evo on release (kinda ironic since they work well together, as seen in the video). People are just excited over a card who's gameplan is really different than most other decks.
      That's why cards such as Thanos and HE stand out, because they're vastly different from other cards in the format which is very exciting.
      As you said, I just hope his popularity won't outshine any of the other new cards that'll be released during the Deadpool season.

  • @juliusjohndiego1833
    @juliusjohndiego1833 4 дня назад

    I think the biggest culprit here is these 3 cards; Blob, Mystique and Rogue. It's mind-boggling that copying an ongoing will trigger its "on reveal" effect. To clean this, and for the sake of spaghetti codes, they should just delete the ongoing effect of Blob, it doesn't do anything, Blob is either the last card you will drop and it has no synergy with move deck to begin with. The "can't be moved" effect is just flavor because Blob is heavyweight, as if he outweighs Galactus, Infinaut and Arishem himself and these cards don't even have that effect.

    • @DuckDoolittle
      @DuckDoolittle 4 дня назад

      If you expect a tech card out of your opponent, you’re much better off on average just playing the Hawk on 6 rather than on 5. If you find you’re struggling to keep up with Wong, Namora, or other big on reveal decks, that’s when you should play Cosmo. Otherwise, you should just play another card with either more stats or a wider range of utility.

    • @amcc8188
      @amcc8188 2 дня назад

      I used a Version of the Kitty+Hawk, but went full kitty build and full hawk build. Cosmo in either a lane that I was going to put Hawk, or in the lane where Thena and Angela are currently climbing to 10+ each felt really nice so I didn't lose them to a Shadow King of ShangChi.
      Comso in a lane just gave me more security that I could win that lane.
      Also, I threw in Quake for the cube stealing. I won so many games because of her when I could play hawk+quake on 6 because I cosmo'd my hope summers on 5.

  • @jaredongsing
    @jaredongsing 4 дня назад

    I found some success with a hand deleting Arishem deck. This was inspired by your concept of "fixing a problem" that a deck has. Silver Samurai and Moon Knight can be awkward for both players, but since Arishem already plays Agent Colsen and Nick Fury your hand refills very quickly. Plus, Nick Fury with Quin Jet can get out an early Odin to discard even more cards. Unfortunately, it has low cube equity and a very poor mirror match up, so I'm excited to try again when the Arishem hype dies down.

    • @amcc8188
      @amcc8188 2 дня назад

      I tried that too. The most fun Arishem variant wound up being half discard, but including Agatha Harkness and Wave. Getting a turn 3 14 power Agatha down felt REALLY good when it happened. The Mirror match is annoying though, so I'll similarly try it again when things die down.

    I don't think Arishem is OP but oh boy is it not fun to play against the same handful of tech cards over and over again with other wild variance thrown in. Maybe I've just had bad luck, but I've never complained about Loki, this seems way more egregious for some reason, I always feel in the dark.

  • @DaveToulouse
    @DaveToulouse 2 дня назад

    I get what you are saying about Loki not being optimal in Arishem. I played it because that's just what I was finding and recommended by the auto builder and don't really have time to research deeper than this when I just want to play but it was Indeed not great.
    I did leave out Darkhawk though because I didn't want to just counter mirror play.
    Another reason I played Loki is also I'm missing some of the other key tech cards. Nocturne was everywhere, as well as Legion but I just don't have them so I ended up with a worse Arishem experience even though I did surprisingly well but I suspect it's because everyone was playing it so maybe skill was just the key difference.

    Jeff, did Snap become particularly hard to get into over the last year? I took a break from it for about a year, and coming back it only took me an afternoon to catch up on series 3, and it feels like there are so many series 5 cards now.

    • @HooglandiaSnap
      @HooglandiaSnap  2 дня назад +1

      Depends on your definition of "catch up". If you mean getting every card in the game - as always it takes time to get things and money makes it go faster.
      If you simply mean play competitive decks you should note that most old favorites like Shuri, Destroy & Discard are all fairly good still. They just don't have play rates to make it into round ups like this because they aren't shiny anymore, meaning entrenched players have moved on from playing them.

    Arishem has killed my desire to play snap because regardless of what the metrics are saying, my personal play experience is "golly I hope this Arishem deck doesn't draw one of the 12 tech cards they can play with the extra energy that makes my deck irrelevant." and I've kind of just stopped caring which is the ultimate killer of any live service games. I just truly don't want to play or spend money because who gives a fuck when I play against Sera Control + 12 extra random nonsense.

      @@HooglandiaSnap in the literal sense? absolutely. In the emotional experience where I'm sitting in while hitting play? Whatever Second Dinner has hoped to accomplish with Arishem has created the opposite effect.
      Obviously it's popular because it's new but despite everyone playing a deck with +12 random cards I've yet to play an original or interesting game against Arishem where the player does something creative with their options instead of playing Sera Control with +1 energy.
      Observation bias? Sure. 3+ days of playing against the same deck repeatedly with no variation? For a card that promises all sorts of new playlines it has just ended up being the same deck repeated ad infinitum. Part of selecting your tech cards is basing it off of what is meta in the moment and slapping in nothing but tech pieces and letting Arishem take the wheel for the rest of the deck just makes it feel like another Hela deck but with tech cards instead of placement variation.

      My Favorite snap moment is when they drop wong on 4 and snap and I'm holding Cosmo and have priority since their turn 4 gave them no power. I cosmo snap and then they usually retreat and give me a free 4 cubes and don't even have to play turn 6.

    If they think it’s warranted, Please nerf the problem cards around Arishem not the card itself. I know it’s too early but here we go
    Quinjet, lockjaw, space stone > Thanos.
    Evolved Wasp, hulk, thing >HE
    Hawk, Blob, mystique/rogue/loki>Arishem
    I’m backing up my point with previous nerf patterns. Idk I like the card but let us have our fun with him.

    Does Arishem need a NERF? Nah, Nerf Blob and Dark Hawk. What would nerf Arishem? Give it more cards? It would only buff Blob and Dark Hawk, give it less cards? Then that's a buff. You can't even nerf his power since nobody plays Arishem on Tempo. 🤣
    Arishem might be crazier than the Loki meta. But don't worry guys, if Arishem is still prominent till next season, I'm sure Cassandra is about to kill this Celestial.
