I feel like Zabu is the perfect candidate for the Activate trigger. The devs said on discord that they already have plans for his buff but we won't be seeing it in awhile and that it would make more sense why once it gets released.
If they would, I think they could go with -2 to 4-costs for a turn

I came here wondering about Zabu. When they NERFED him into oblivion they said it was okay because there was something coming and I feel like that was forever ago.
@@supert_5332 They can never change Zabu back to -2 Cost, on turn 6 at minimum they can play 3 big 4 drops or -3 Cost with Sera they can get up to six 4-cost cards on turn 6. Of course tech cards exist but that shouldn't be the basis for allowing a card to be stupidly OP.
My speculation is that activate works like trap cards in Yu-Gi-Oh where to use the effect you need to put that card on the board and can use the effect after that turn has passed and it's a one time trigger.
This is what I had in mind too. Basically its on reveal but instead of it automatically triggering when its revealed, You can trigger the ability manually at any time.

Yep! For Spanish words like Araña, the tilde above the "n" changes the pronunciation to "nyuh".
So this is how they choose to implement that which originally made Kitty Pride break the game.
Worth noting that, at least based off of its current text, Symbiote Spidey isn’t turning into the card he merges with, he just eats it’s on-reveal.
Relevant for cards like Killmonger and also your cool variants will still show up in-game!
I think it's not just 'eat's it's on-reveal'. Look at other cards that use the merge keyword, hulk buster and phoenix force. Those do turn into the previous card, different from what symbiote says, but they also gain the power of both cards. So I think symbiote will get the text box again of the eaten card, but he will also gain the power of the eaten card.
I can't imagine activate will be more than once per game, just judging based on how insane Araña would be if it was every turn. Wouldn't be the first time an early datamined card was blatantly broken though lmao (looking at you Marvel Boy).
Really hoping that you can use Activate in between your other card plays, return some of those interesting sequencing decisions that we unfortunately lost with the recent move change.

As spanish speaker I give them permition to just say "spider" or "the spider". You don't translate name but this is more nickname so is fine and yes to non spanish speaker "araña" is just spanish for spider. I only added "the" for enphasis since it might sound better to english speaker.
Symbiote Spiderman looks a little clunky (you have to wait a turn, signaling to your opponent where he will trigger), but his deterministic nature on who he will merge with gives an unexpected control over his ability. I expect he will be a great, versatile card in the game.
Speaking of versatility, activate may be implemented in a way in which we can sequence them with our plays, like Jeff said with the Araña Ghost-spider example. This expands the gameplay of Snap considerably and opens the design space in an unprecedented way. I am really excited for the future of Marvel Snap.
This may be cope but Madame Web seems like the Angela of move decks. Holy crap, Madame Web and Angela on the same lane seems really good also.

I honestly think she might just be the new Jeff. The flexibility she provides to move your power where it's needed, even abandoning her lane as the game develops, is huge.
I always thought they should add a “Trigger” mechanic for all the cards that have some kind of conditional ability. So you can have cards that automatically trigger other cards, or get a buff when other cards trigger. Excited for Activate.

Activate seems like the perfect addition to the game. After it's release and some ironing out, I could see the focus put on the rest of the game's features put us in the best era of Marvel Snap's existence. Very satisfied with Second Dinner lately. I do hope we see at least 1 or 2 low series cards release with the activate effect. Gating a new game mechanic behind being in series 3 + having the resources to get the card just sounds like new player deterrent.
I hope activate text will occur in the order it is pressed between card plays. Imagine Arana on 2, Herc on 3, then playing Vulture, activating Arana, and playing Ghost Spider on 4. Vulture would move 3 times for +15 power and get the +2 from Arana all in one turn.
So waiting for the tech card which prevents activate

Symbiote Spider-Man + Panther + Zola makes two 56 power cats if it works the way I'm picturing. And I'm sure that's barely scratching the surface of the new on reveal combos symbiote can enable.
btw araña is pronounced like "aranya", the ñ is a different letter than n. Think "Señor".
It's also similar to italian gn like in lasagna or signor.

Symbiote Spider-Man seems like the perfect addition for Phoenix Force decks, giving you another alternative line. Instead of Shuri, i would use him, cause he seems to have more use cases. Merging him with Nimrod, Multiple Man or Human Torch seems Nuts. It's also Noteworthy that Nimrod would no longer be vulnerable to shadow king since the merge effect would happen on turn six along side your destroy effects, while likley not having prior. Arana seems also to fit quite well into this puzzle 😁
Merging him into human torch or multiple man won't be able to move him on his own like phoenix force tho.
I think its still good, because you have ghost spider and i personally also play it with doctor strange + arana will be a must include. If you set it up correctly, you can Move the merged Torch to a solo lane with arana and then zola him which is a lot of points in 2 lanes.
@@DudE-xh7no i agree with u, i didn't say it wasn't good , just pointing out that it need support to work where pf dosn't ^^ so it'll be more like a backup plan that need more pieces to do what you want it to.
I am really interested in Scarlet Spider. Him being buffed with Okoye/Nakia/Namora/Phastos (maybe) can make him a big card that can be duplicated on Turn 6 depending on how Activate works

i feel like activate is gonna be a one time effect that you can't activate on the turn that you play the card otherwise it would just be better on reveal, meaning playing a activate card on the last turn or any given turn when said card is played won't gvie you it's effect as a downside where the upside is you can sequence activate cards more easily and play them ahead of time. (arania is a perfect exemple as a setup for a later turn) and i don't think scarlet spider's clone will have the activate ability as it will be "greyed" when activating to create the clone and the "exact" text mean the clone will have any additional power (ironheart and the like) that was on scarlet spider itself.
at least that's my understanding of it :3
also i still think that marvel boy is gonna be insane even in this state but we'll see.
This is the season I have been waiting for. Scarlet Spider is my favorite Spider-Man variant, can't wait!

For non-Spanish speaking fellow gamers, you can pronounce the “ña” in Araña in the same way you do with “gna” in lasagna.
No matter how bad Madame Web was going to be, she has to be better than her movie was.
You can only do it once per game
So what happens if Silver Sable hits something with negative power? Does Silver Sable get negative power, or will it be absolute value (meaning, always positive)? I would assume it would "gain" negative power.
She’s stealing a flat value so the negative power card would just become more negative but she would still get +2
@@jeager343 That makes sense, but it's still not clear how this interaction will work.
@@jonblanchard3949I think it's perfectly clear tbh. Power values have always been able to be reduced into the negatives and beyond in Snap, IMO there's no reason at all to think that Sable wouldn't work as normal on cards that started with negative power. She definitely won't lose power when stealing from Mr. Negative, that'd be incredibly odd.

Symbiote will be interesting to see if he can succeed where Grandmaster failed.
Silver Sable is interesting combination of Hawkey and Selene like abilities. Unlike Selene though, she won't hit the same card on repeat triggers.
Madame Web will be fun with Angela even with her being at +1 now. And lot of other things.
Araňa is what my Phoenix deck is missing, can't wait.
Scarlet looks cracked, but might be balanced with having to play him before turn 6.
I hope that removing the ability to play Hazmat and Ajax on turn 6 won't kill him.
Marvel Boy still looks powerful to me, he is the highlight release for me.
Cassandra - I'm happy to play Deadpool's Diner for the mode, looks like Darkhawk decks will be her main home, and I don't have him.
Fun (well, sad) datamine from snapfan: Copycat will reveal the ability she stole. I guess 3/5 with most abilities is still good, but lacking surprise factor (and telling your enemy which card they won't draw this game) seems to be killing the card? But Snap is not releasing bad cards, so that's one way to know I'm wrong there XD

Dr. Strange has always been a bottom-barrel lackluster move card. Making him an Activate card seems like it could bring him back into a place of usefulness. But maybe because he’s early series, it’s not something SD would want to do.
