The way the Korean police handle drug USERS, you’d think these people had done a major crimes where other people got hurt. It seems they have recently been aggressively going for celebrities for drug usage charges to make them as examples. And the way they are demonized by the public is also outrageous. They should go against the pushers but then public outcry would probably be less.

@@sherrygadberryturner9527 EXACTLY!! Yet alcohol is heavily pushed in Korean society…as well as smoking so it makes NO sense to be SO against weed!!! It’s less harmful than either of those! If their reasoning is they want to protect their citizens from dangerous drugs, they’ve already blown that with cigarettes & alcohol! It seems hypocritical & don’t get me started on the short sentences for sexual crimes/domestic violence!!! & they wonder why their birth rate is down…South Korea is sending out a message that they don’t care about the country’s women!!! I just don’t get it!!

Though there are idols that might have actually done it at some point but idk who had. That’s the thing though. I don’t think he had ever done it before and I don’t know that he would but even if it was mistaken for a cigarette the way it looked because I think sometimes it can, how is it illegal there when it’s less harmful than cigarettes for weed. I mean it could be a little dangerous but smoking cigarettes is way worse

But when it comes to under age ofenders that kill they do nothing, and if they get crime/ murder cases they do nothing, now I get why Korea is safe and there are no crimes, because you can do anything and they don't take is as a crime... I heard of horrible crimes in Korea and Japan, where the police was just incompetent and the bad guys were not punished and the victimes were blamed.

I have heard that YG renewed the rights to the name G-Dragon, but I had no idea that they had the rights to his real name in English. Obviously somebody's Butt Hurt about G-Dragon leaving their company. I got into K-pop about a year ago and I knew right off the top that G-Dragon was going to make it big here in America and I am still convinced he will. YG needs ask themselves, do they want to be known to the world as the assholes who screwed G-Dragon over or the ones that helped G-Dragon get to where he is now. Hasn't G been through enough already, and when is enough enough? That man needs to shine & he's more than ready for the next phase in his career. Love ya G & I have faith in you. ❤❤❤

Even if he hangs out with American artists, that Trayvon Martin blackface idiocy will be in US headlines should he attempt to have a career there. And so much of BB's music is considered exploiting and stereotyping hip hop culture. But BTS has been racist plenty of times and that whole American series was full of racism, so who knows. Also I remember in BTS's early days they would say some extremely racist stuff on variety shows. I can't believe people haven't highlighted this and talked about it. BTS would not be as successful in the west if their racist quips in interviews and on variety shows was talked about in America.

If Lee Sun-kyun tested negative, you shouldn't jump to conclusions about anything until the 2nd drug test results come out. I am a FIRM believer in innocent until proven guilty. Basically everything you said was you heard, it could be, it might be, etc. etc. etc.

Hey Sean, I'm so glad you're covering this as I've seen only a few other Korean channels talk about this, and mostly about how it relates to G-Dragon. I have a few thoughts about all this.
I may be too optimistic or naive, but I think G-Dragon is genuinely innocent. Unless he was physically coerced. Someone who's used before typically isn't very gun-ho about submitting to all types of testing and willing to assist in the investigation as much as possible. Especially not in SK, where the drug laws are SO strict.
Now, if I let my conspiracy side run free, I would NOT but any of this behind "the powers that be" for putting out this kind of story because political figures aren't getting as positive ratings as they want, especially with a president that won by such a small margin. And, the reason I say this is because idols and actors are so often used to cover up unfavorable media stories or current events, like when so many K-nets and citizens were discussing the harsh conditions of teachers after the teacher took her life in her class, then boom, Jisoo's relationship broke news-it was confirmed by both parties-pictures and articles ran rampant-and the stories of the plight of teachers nearly completely disappeared.
Whatever the reason for this particular story, I hope those who are truly innocent are found innocent and if this is a set up, I hope those who are guilty of setting it up, get what they deserve.
Either way, thanks for the great coverage as always! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Dont get me wrong, I still want to go and do like the people and of course the history and culture...but in these three years, it's been brought to my attention that Korea is a place where its own people look to sabotage each other. Everywhere can be said to being the same, but S. Korea came to the "world stage" pretty quickly thanks to the influence of BTS and kpop and as such, might not have been ready for so much of their dirty laundry advertised and quite in such a frequent fashion. GD needs to sue each and everyone who spread malicious comments about him. He needs to set a precedent for all the Kpop Idols. Also, he needs to make a good use of his elite legal team. Anddddddd with the defamation damages that he will get from all these people, he never needs to work ever again. Sounds like a perfect plan.

If i was G-Dragon i would leave the K-pop industry behind and start over in the west like America or Europe. Some kpop artist have tried it in the past but have not been successful except for BTS and Psy. But G-Dragon can still release music and do concerts in America underground but not mainstream. I think he would prefer it that way cz less exposure. Korea doesn't deserve G-dragon and people have no idea how much G-dragon have contributed to what K-pop is now. He is a true artist and a musical genius. K-pop would not be where it is today without G-dragon and Bigbang's contributions. But now look where Bigbang members are, the country and people that has once idolized them have now ostracized and persecuted them. Its like a witchhunt against all BigBang members i think the only that hasn't been slapped by a scandal is Young-bae but its only a matter of time. The Korean public is just out to get them and they certainly do not deserve this!!

Hello Sean, I realize that as celebrities they get more attention. I’m curious what the expected punishment is for someone who test positive for using weed if they have no other crime. In Singapore, it’s 3 years medium security in a behavior modification unit, according to a documentary I saw. If it were in the USA, you know it wouldn’t get you time in jail. I’m sensing that in Korea it brings mostly shame and enough prison time to add more shame.

It's not bad nowadays. There is a saying in Southeast Asia that "protecting the family is the most patriotic act a person can do". As we know from the inner-city drug epidemic in the US, drugs are destroyers of families (quoting for Singapore president). Most Southeast Asian countries do not want anything like what is happening in the West to happen in their countries.

@@thomasc9036 First of all in reply, a slight update, the opioid problem in the U.S. is in many locations and populations. It’s not a problem borne of urban poverty in inner cities l It’s in rural, wide open countrysides, areas with long stretches of roads and not much else, it’s among the wealthy, it’s pretty much anywhere people live. It’s tragic, but it’s a newer problem than our usual problems.
I was just asking for Sean to give perspective on what would have happened on a marijuana use conviction. I wasn’t trying to compare good vs bad, or east vs west, I was just saying the only places where I know the penalties and also where he and I both know. I should have kept it simple and just asked the penalty in Korea. I apologize for confusion.

Hanbin, CL🍒, Bang Yedam, Mashiho…TOP…seem to have experienced something detrimental. 😢❤️‍🩹. It’s all Secretive and Scary because these accusations effect them financially. This won’t effectively hurt the Chabol daughter. I believe this situation is a huge “DISTRACTION”..from some seriously SAD issues that keep coming up in the media. 🤷🏻‍♀️🙏🏽💔

G-Dragon didn't just say that he is innocent. He volunteered to do a drug test when he could've refused to do so due t9 the police unable to get a warrant for it(court dismissed it due to lack of evidence). He will go in to cooperate with the investigation today. He wasn't arrested. Police said they will book him but never did. To book someone they gotta let the person know they are booked right? They never contacted GD.

I also wonder what the general perception of ppl is in this day there & esp if your an KPop idol for example. I wonder what the real treatment would be in the svc is ppl may think your gay/bi etc? You always have a great perspective of things so I'm very interested to know. I think demonising these celebrities and performers for drug usage is the wrong way to go. Give them a fine yes, get them to do community service, and make them go to rehab. Maybe use them to educate young people on the dangers of drugs; but unless they are drug dealing and supplying others with drugs, why ruin their careers? Shouldn’t the police be looking at, and investigating, the whole drug business and drug barons who are making millions out of this?

Seoulite question…. Have you ever heard of a person getting a hair drug test in 3days??? Ok by law if you ask for a second test it must be honored. PYC’s postive hair test was back in 3 days!! Three days Seoulite!! Look how long it took for Yu-ah-in , LSK, G Dragon they did not come back in three days. Hair can not be tested that fast no where in the world! PYC was made to confess to something he did not do….He was framed with the 4 girls accusing him of sexual assault well that didn’t work so next he was framed and became H H’s sin cover!! PYC lost everything his name has been trashed. It is sick what happened to him he even had to move out of his country to be able to work! He has worked since he was 16 years old and was full support for his family! He didn’t and does not do drugs! One day it will all come out in this man will be vindicated as he should be. Korea has lost a legend I’m gonna lose another one. We have to be there for our entertainers because someone is trying to snuff out their talents! They take these awesome men and break them piece by piece! So many have been to the brink of suicide and several of them have gone all the way. It is wrong and sick. These girls just walk away. HH famous words is oh I was asleep when he gave me drugs. It is something everyone drugs that poor helpless girl while she is asleep! You better wake up korea . Don’t let another innocent man be convicted on false charges! HH’s next bf she married to hide her sin ,he went out by suicide or so they say…

I find your comments a real mixture. You use words and phrases like "apparently" "probably" "supposedly" and "most likely" "I've heard" but then speak like you are talking about facts rather than rumours and gossip. Everything you say seems very speculative and to a large extent, appears like just your own thoughts and summations of what could perhaps have happened You also threw in the word criminals when it is still only at the investigation stage. I think it would be more responsible to stick only to confirmed facts and when adding your own speculations, to make it much clearer that they are just that. The police have also clearly said that the G Dragon investigation was not connected to the other investigation. Regarding your comment about G Dragon in 2011 - to me you gave an impression that you believed it wasn't unintentional consumption - but unintentional consumption is exactly what the courts found it to be after completing their investigation. The investigation scientific evidence also supported this verdict as there was only an incredibly slight trace of marijuana in G Dragon's hair sample, which tied in with him only having taken a few puffs, before thinking it tasted funny and throwing it away. The incident happened at an after party where everyone was drinking; and GD does smoke ordinary tobacco cigarettes. Your video title also uses G Dragon's name. I assume that is because his name attracts more interest and views from people than any other person mentioned in your video. I hope that you don't delete my comment, but accept it as honest feedback.
