q.632 is a gently repackaged update of the beloved Magpha EQ, an obscure and defunct plugin whose unusual phase-modeled filters earned it a reputation for smoothness and fidelity that rival what comes out of $9,000 analog mastering EQ’s.
Spotting an opportunity to revive Magpha’s lovely tech, Kush reached out to John Flynn, the mastering engineer who developed it, and secured an exclusive license both to the Magpha plugin and its underlying EQ algorithms.
q.632 is the first Kush product to leverage Magpha’s EQ dsp, adding extended gain range, an updated Preset Manager and Apple Silicon compatibility. Magpha EQ’s core dsp (and tightly phased sound) remains untouched, and will slowly become incorporated into all of Kush’s products.
TL;DR: If you want a dead simple, minimalist EQ that does zero damage to any part of your sound no matter what you do with it, q.632 is the one to get.

Greg, I know this is totally not related to the plugin and off topic, but I wanted to let you know that your MUSIC inspired me to write similar music. I'm a rather seasoned engineer (25 years mixing, still learning - from you) with a musical background (Vienna conservatory, piano) but I couldn't find my "home planet". Your music, though, made me feel at home. When I started to write music of your style I suddenly "liked" what I was doing. Composing became fun again.

This thing is really really good. Incredibly subtle, usable, surgical, musical. It takes out or adds exactly what you want and nothing more. Soooo smooth too. It's doing what I wish my massive passive would do. Officially a permanent fixture in the mastering chain.
Same. I just compared it to a few other EQs that used to live on my mixbus. This is much better - so bloody silky smooth in those top frequencies.
I thought Magpha disappeared into abyss...

Hey, just wanted to say I'm obsessed with the AR-1 right now. I don't know if I'm "supposed" to use it on my master bus, but I do. I've cycled through many mix bus compressors in the last four years, and I could never really find one I loved. The AR-1 is doing it for me. I start with one of your "mizz bus" presets and then tweak from there. It seems to work every time.

I own Magpha, and am glad you somehow managed to contact John and get a response! I loved that EQ, but sadly had to eventually move on. But I learned a lot from his plug-in and his info that was on his site back in the day.
I'm certainly looking forward to grabbing this from the subscription. Still the best (and ONLY) subscription for me!
M/S capabilities? I'd also like a spectrum analyzer added to this, so that it helps it hang alongside the MH Sontec and several other mastering EQ plugins.

Just installed. Awesome. I can see at Kush they were too excited about sharing this with the world to stop and spend five minutes on the user interface, but maybe we can hope for some color-coding on those knobs in a future update?
I mean, yeah, that's pretty much what happened. 😛. The truth is a bit more nuanced --- namely, the original Magpha was built entirely within the Juce framework using their generic vector-based UI toolkit, so it would've taken us many months to rebuild the whole plugin in our own framework, test it, beta teams... we'll expand this eq mightily in the future, but for now we just wanted the tech out there.
In truth, I didn't originally plan to re-release a version of Magpha, I just wanted to license the alto's for use in our own products. But life, she sometimes has other plans than us!

Thank you! Yeah, this track is the foundation for one of 4 new Sneaky Little Devil songs in the works. I haven't had a studio to work in or make After Hours since April, still finishing up a total acoustic renovation, so I've been spending a lllloooottt of time at the Rhodes, deconstructing oldass muzak and library tunes and their crazy progressions and instrumentation. It's been hell and heaven at the same time, I want my studio back!

Hi Kush, can you please make a video on how you handle being scared to create a song or work on a mix in case it turns bad?
Like I took an break from music and illustration because I was getting burned out, but now I am scared of getting back into composing and singing and mixing because I am afraid I forgot how to do things like I did before my break. Or I am not as good at some aspects of the process.
How do you deal with these feelings? The frustration of wanting to create but scared of not making the level or standard of quality that you have gotten used to?
What do you suggest?

I really like the understated gui, it let's you get straight to work. I am particularly fond of the 632Hz band. It seems to null with FF Pro Q3 in most scenarios and yet manages to sound different, although it nulls. Maybe it's magic or voodoo? Anyway, it's a great addition and gets you there very quickly.
Yeah, that normally happens with digital products...... nothing analog in plugins basically 😉
If you do a light boost or cuts you can match the curves with pro q 3 easily. However large moves have a noticeably different effect. I think under the hood they are proportional Qs like electra? At least thats what i am hearing. I only did a null test with fabfilter. No plugin doctor.

So instead of demoing this Plugin I re-subscribed for the complete kush bundle for one month.But only receiving only 7 instead of 18 plugins on my Ilok of course not including the one I want to demo...... Not amused at all being busy 2 hours not getting anywhere. I had 17 plugins before from Kush in my Ilok and expected 18 because the 632 was added. Having a hand full of plugins after committing another month makes me sad. I hate being subscribed and intended to buy UBK-1, Reddi and Clariphonic (and maybe q632) but now I regret my 9,99 already for wasting my evening and time.
That's definitely not right, I'm sorry to hear about the hassle. If you write to support@thehouseofkush.com we'll get you completely sorted, nobody's spending money with us and not getting everything they paid for, not on my watch!
Regarding happy funtime hour donation manger, I am not getting the login code sent to my email and I tried reaching out a few times to the email support.
