Shame you didn't ask him if there's anything he can do beyond calling his sister. Can he call his counterparts in Gaza and help find the hostages? Just to see him smile and laugh
We keep hearing that Israel is a Democracy and if someone like Netanyahu or Sharon before him keeps getting elected it is only reasonable to conclude that the majority of Israelis don't want peace. No one with even pretense to peace would allow characters like the finance minister and others into a government. Israel is a nuclear power and doesn't feel obliged to follow any UN resolution, same as US, Russia, and North Korea and this is why Iran wants to be one. Why not be honest with palestinians? For the 1st time ever Andrew Marr now outside of BBC criticized Netanyahu openly. I doubt that he just came to this conclusion about Netanyahu. Only climate deniers and those who believe the Earth to be flat buy this so-called "diplomatic" self-censorship. Why does your podcast buy into this? You don't seem to value your credibility. Despite Hamas' attack the polls show that the British are supportive of Palestinians and don't buy Israel's propaganda. This is not going to change because with Internet the game is up. I think even Israel knows that but they just don't care. I used to work with a lot Israelis and most of them didn't even think of ending the conflict and didn't want it to end. This gave them the kind of paranoia that they believed to be essential to their existence. Paradoxically they are even more distrusful of Christians than Moslems. That is quite understandable because even if they took all the land they would still be surrounded by Arabs and they have learned not to trust outsiders. That is part of their psyche and has been all throughout time ever since the Romans burned their temple and were forced out of their so-called Biblical land. It is a way of self-preservation and yet a self-fulfilling prophecy. Anyone who has dealt with paracticing Jews and hasn't recognized this must be a moron.
He feels to me being listening to a disque repeating everytime the same noise. To me he seems to enjoy his life/ job so much that he forgot what it means to suffer. Even not the sufferings of his own family. His mouth is like a waterfall. And luxury made his heart to be silent and his tongue already longing for a good lunch with the people he sits with during the interview.
To see someone speak with such passion, patience and knowledge, at perhaps the most difficult period in their entire life, in a language that isn’t their mother-tongue, is pretty awe-inspiring. Thank-you Ambassador Zomlot

I'm glad you allowed Husam to talk openly and give long thoughtful answers. Always so articulate, composed reasoned, and particularly assertive. And during the tragic loss of his family members. He's a credit to the Palestinian people, and I wish our politicians in the UK were more like him.
Entirely agree. A remarkable conciliatory speaker. A revelation of the truth. It is humbling how a man can remain as stoical positive, constructive and hopeful having lost a high number of close relatives a few days before in Gaza under the bombs of the Israeli army. The manner in which he gently brushes aside the endemically racist, presumptuous and biased discourse of his patronizing hosts’ prejudices with sincerity, integrity and humility is a lesson in the art of genuine diplomacy. 🙏🏼🕯🕯🙏🏼 Paris
Are we to believe he did not know what his government of terrorists was going to do. Replay of the Japanese Ambassador at the time of Pearl Harbour. Pure BS.
But... always every journalist comes up with the Hamas false flag attack, they should explain, why the border was not secured and second where is the proof as there are videos circling that the festival was in Tel Aviv which is miles away, and which are old videos. Where are the funerals? Come on guys, do not fall every time in the same lying trap
After seeing the ambassador be interviewed by the BBC and have them repeatedly ask obviously combative questions at a time when his family had just died was horrible. I'm so thankful for you giving zamot a platform without the incessantly ghoulish questions. was a pleasure to watch both the Israeli and the Palestinian interviews.
He's an ambassador, so it's his job to answer difficult and combative questions, and we can here that he is very good at it. If he was just a random person off the street though, I would agree that combative questions would be unfair.

We see how difficult it is for you to make the world understand how unfairly Palestinians have been treated. May justice prevail and be on your side.
Your Excellency, Dear Ambassador Zomlot, I have listened to several interviews you have given in the last few days and I am so grateful to you for patiently explaining and teaching the world the history. The world needs to know this. You are an outstanding voice for Palestine. As a retired UN staff member, it gives me great pride to hear you speak. I ask God to bless you as you continue your important work. Peace be with you dear Sir. Take care of yourself as the whole world needs the healing of Israel and Palestine. And you are a healing force, a voice of reason, a voice of justice, a voice for peace🙏
Maybe you should ask him to educate you on the following issues: what does the palestinan school program say about Hitler? Israel? Jews? Suicide bombings? Jihad? If he says truth (which of course will never happen) - you will understand a lot about this conflict.

Apparently « wanting » but in fact, sadly, deafened by their set prejudices and agenda. The disgraceful backstabbing coda to the interview encapsulates this. No such post mortem attack was reserved for the Israeli speaker received previously as a greater « victim ».

This is SO MUCH BETTER than the interview on Piers Morgan's show a few days ago which was just a shouting match. Thank you so much for this fantastic interview, very insightful, and truly informative.
Excellent interview! Full of compassion and trying to move the needle on the issue. Ambassador Zomlot is an influential voice for the Palestinians. He is reasonable, calm and able to answer difficult questions convincingly without trying to skirt the issue.
He does not represent the majority. He should be out of his office. Antisemitism is much more common than u think in all palestinian territories. However, why didn't u ask about the pay that this PLO grants to Hammas terrorists and their families?
@@פוליטיקאיאלמוני Netanyahu also doesn’t represent all Israelis. But he still speaks for Israel. The Ambassador is a representative of the PA that even the Israeli Govt recognizes. Second, Hamas was funded and supported by the Israeli Govt. as a counter to nationalist Palestinians. That’s a fact. So why should it matter if PLO also “funds” Hamas? Third, Arabs are also semites so how can they be antisemitic? Arabs, Christian’s and Jews lived in harmony before the Zionists stole their land with the help of antisemitic Europeans. I would go as far as to say that Zionists love and draw sustenance from antisemites. The people who most persecuted the Jews for a thousand years made it their mission to use biblical references to get rid of the Jews from their societies and give them a homeland by stealing it from Palestinians. And the Zionists loved them for it and became the protectors of their interests in the Middle East.
@@Pserene47 In liberal democracy, elected leaders represent even those who did not vote for them. that's why it happened only once in history that a democracy declined into something else. In contrary, if u loose the elections, and u don't peacefully transfer the power (like the PLO did), or if u fail to count transparently, so it doesn't represent the majority. It's easy. How many ppl lived "in Harmony" before the Zionists steal the land? Why did they come to this land? I mean- land is something u can't take with u. What is a biblical references? Have u every found Christians who expelled from that land and asked them who expelled them?

This is the first interview I have seen with this gentleman on British media in which the first or second question wasn’t ‘Do you condemn Hamas?’ Kudos, gentlemen, for a fair, thoughtful, and balanced conversation about this difficult issue.
This was a very good interview that allowed the ambassador to clearly and articulately explain his government's position. However, asking a Palestinian leader if they condemn Hamas is a big deal and worthy of being asked, it's not just a cheap shot to embarass somebody. That being said, PA officials have to walk a tightrope between alienating outside players by failing to distance themselves from terrorism, and alienating elements within their own population by appearing to take Israel's side.
Anyone who wants to speak on current events should naturally want to condemn Hamas (maybe to distinguish himself from it so the outside world knows where he stands and can actually listen to the Palestinian cause or just to simply express sympathy to the victims of horrific crimes, as a form of basic courteousness). Now when there are more and more Palestinian victims it is understandable that the focus is there too.
@@alexrothwell2053asking if somebody condemn Israel is also a valid question that’s never asked! The Knesset have many terrorists one of the biggest ones in Netanyahu himself!
Have to say that this channel feels like a safe harbour in a storm atm. Thank you guys for trying to create a space where we can hear and acknowledge both sides of this incredibly difficult situation and form our own educated perspectives
It really does! Its ethos has always been to listen, argue and if needed disagree agreeably. This series on I/P doesn’t just live up to that, it sets a new gold standard for the show and other podcasts.
It's good to hear both sides. But the Hamas are being defended, and equivilated to Palestinians. They're butchers (Hamas) and there's no defense to what they commited
Nonetheless, the discriminate attitudes are still there. Note the Ambassador talking about his family members who have been killed and hurt, including a child. No notable response or emotional engagement from the interviewers. Meanwhile, their podcast with Yuval Noah Harari, albeit a friend of Rory Stewart and not a politician, starts with an unapologetic personal focus with references to personal emotions and trauma. Clearly, the interviewers were afraid to engage in the Ambassador's personal story and trauma for fear of encouraging too much sympathy. The need for a private pep talk at the end to critique the Ambassador in his absence, rather than face to face, apparently, associating him to Gerry Adams in some way and so on, also seems to reflect a fear of encouraging too much sympathy for Palestinians - perhaps, too, a fear of the strength of the overwhelming evidence of Palestinian suffering as a result of international crimes.
A great Palestinian Ambassador, a very important voice during this struggle with extremely well measured responses giving context to the political situation his people are in. I heard the interview he gave to the press yesterday, I was impressed..
Yes, he somehow forgets the suicide bombings, the billions of dollars given by the stupid westerners which ere either stolen or invested in terror and chauvinistic education system, sometimes even praising hitler.

I am currently studying this conflict for uni, I started before October 7th. To see this play out in real time while also diving into the extended history, of things like the Balfour declaration of 1917 and understanding that Palestinian resistance has been strategically criminalised by the British only to then have the British withdraw, leaving that legacy while not upholding their part of the bargain, it becomes increasing hard to sit back and watch the UK and US (and others) support Israels illegal occupation. Both sides have suffered atrocities, yet aside from the acts of Hamas, Palestine has tried over and over again to broker peace while giving up the majority of their land. To then suggest that they are in part the perpetrator of the situation in which they are essentially fighting the same invasion as Ukraine, yet no one is saying Ukraine are to blame when they fight back against Russia. The West are not willing to recognise Palestine as a country or a victim because as soon as they do they become complicit in Israel breaking international law. Standing up to Israel and saying they have broken the law they agreed to while taking land from another group of people is not antisemitic. I thought the Ambassador did a great job amid what must be an increasingly frustrating situation.
The antisemites/anti Zionists have double standards and the sheep fall for it. Watching Russian anti freedom, anti democracy rockets falling on Ukrainian cities and towns is like watching Hamas anti freedom, anti democracy rockets falling on Israeli cities and towns. I don’t know what type of Islam these rockets are carrying…..but they are certainly not tipped with democracy, gay rights, women’s rights, freedom of speech and freedom of expression etc etc. The Russians are as bad as Hamas.
Years ago, in Gaza, I was asked by a couple of students ‘what did they teach you in school about the Sykes-Picot agreement?’ My reply, ‘absolutely nothing’, devastated them. I now live a few miles from Sledmere, family seat of Sir Mark Sykes of said agreement. I was with a young friend in the pub at the weekend to discuss Palestine and asked him the same question. Same answer as mine 40 years ago. We Brits are kept ignorant by the education system of our own history. A little inquisitiveness and willingness to learn from those we have tampered with, would go a long way towards our politicians discovering an international role. [I hope this is not patronising, but the Sykes-Picot agreement was the Anglo-French carve up of the post-WWI Middle East responsible for those ridiculous ruler-drawn lines which slashed through natural communities and has contributed greatly to so many regional conflicts over the past century-plus. When I lived in Dubai the very elderly Palestinian owner of the corner shop said to me, without malice, “You British caused this problem”. He was not wrong.
I have the exact same conversation with Irish family and friends about the way the Troubles and Irish revolution are taught. The shock that most felt that Britain was so willing to recklessly endanger the hard won piece in Northern Ireland during Brexit was matched only by the shock at how few British people knew about the border situation at all.
Yes - Sykes/Picot agreement seems very distant in the collective consciousness of Canadians. We now live under a Liberal Govt that has built its political platform partially on the retribution paid to the society of our recent past. We ethnically cleansed our way west as we battled for control of territory/built a railroad with Chinese labor ….decimated the Buffalo 🦬 herds. What Native Americans did survive our imported epidemics, were subjugated to reservation territorial life, cut off from a established nomadic life following the herds now land locked on a”Rez-Reservation”. We run our hypocritical Liberal Govt on this awareness as we currently support Israel 🇮🇱 and ship military gear to Saudi Arabia. Couldn’t make up a more hypocritical story if I tried …. We. Are. Asleep !! Bit colonially ignorant Eh Canada 🍁 🇨🇦 ?
I am only 15 minutes in but its wonderful to hear him speak about his country and his culture. I hope one day he can return to palestine as a citizen of a sovereign country
I would love to see him lead the Palestinian people in their sovereign state. I feel he is very educated, balanced, calm, respectful, passionate about his people, proud of his heritage and can see both sides of the conflict. Oppression is most definitely the root of the entire conflict and until that stops there wont be peace. He is an admirable man and so articulate in getting his point across given that English is his second language. I have true admiration for this man and hope to see him and his people win the freedom they so deserve.
Many thanks to Ambassador Zomlot and TRIP for an excellent discussion. This really helped me understand the situation better. (from Australia, trying to hold both my Jewish and Palestinian friends here close to my heart).
What an incredible interview & discussion. The ambassador is an incredibly articulate & passionate individual who is a perfect representation for the Palestinian side of things. He appears to be a calm, empathetic, & rational person who is able to see & hear opposing arguments & acknowledge them from a human perspective.. It’s such a shame that Hamas have completely undone any progress that people like this man might’ve had. I feel for everybody on both sides in this horrific situation.
Finally an opportunity for Husam to speak about his deep perception of the region as oppose to constantly being hounded about Hamas. Although there are times where I believe he is either missing important information or I don't fully align, I can safely say that I now see him as a force for good in this world which was a near impossible conclusion to ascertain from his interviews on mainstream media due to the consistent hounding he experiences.
Yeah, more emphasis needs to be placed on the fact that many Palestinians can not directly condemn Hamas because of concerns that Hamas will retaliate against them/their families. Often speaking in nuance rather than generalities is the most "free" way for them to speak on the issue. What seems like a simple condemnation of violence is not as simple as those in the media make it seem. Though when this inability extends to say Western Harvard students with no personal ties to Palestine, it becomes an unwillingness to condemn, rather than in inability.
So the Gazan people didn't vote Hamas in? They didn't want them? A substantial number aren't choosing to stay to be sacrificed for the cause, have you had a look at the interviews with such people? Have you looked at the founding documents that state the aims of Hamas? What was well known when they were voted into power? As for the point people who do want cnage can't fight back, nonsense, there's a rebellion in Iran right now, they're in a far worse situation with a government with much more power and weapons at it's disposal, yet there they are fighting back refusing to be ruled by and islamic state that harm's them, that shoots and even bombs them when they rise up. Iranians have been out in the street saying the attack on Israelis, if Iran was involved it was not done in ther name the do not agree with their government, they do not hate Jews, and they do not want Israel wiped off the map. Those people are brave AF, and Gazans should take note instead of blaming everyone else, they're in this mess because they took the chance of being left alone with a functioning democratic system, and they gave that power to Hamas. Hamas didn't get in by force. If Israel has to admit its failings in this complex issue, then so do Gazans. They were given materials to build sewage systems and water systems, they gave Hamas their power and then Hamas used the materials to make weapons.
@@djon3043 Good point. Blaming Gazans for not overthrowing Hamas or speaking out is unfair. An ambassador is a different question though, since it is their job to speak on behalf of their country (or in this case, country-to-be). However, even then we must recognise that the Palestinian Authority has a population to answer to so people need to respect that indirect condemnation is the best they can do. Anybody else who refuses to condemn Hamas is just scum in my opinon.
What a balanced way to start an interview. A human interaction should always be the way to interact regardless of differences, in all debates. Always start from a place of respect, always….

The hosts seem deaf, blind and stifled by their stale set of prejudices and convenient clichés, refusing to be surprised by the views and perspective of a scholarly, politically moderate man of civilization, knowledge and remarkable openness. Let's not be patronising: Balfour Declaration, Sykes Picot line, the mandate! The duplicity of the British. We started this mess! Some of us know the history.
Unfortunately, we can't change history, so there is no point in blaming anyone. The people involved at the time are all dead, and they would no doubt say they were wrong in hindsight.
We didn't start the mess. The enmity between Muslims and Jews goes back to pre-Islamic times. The Qur'an describes the Prophet Muhammad's slaughter of the Banu Qurayza, a Jewish tribe which had become culturally, politically and economically dominant through its introduction of agriculture to Medina. Fighters led by the spiritual leader of Islam captured the Jews, took the women as sex slaves then dug trenches in the market of Medina and beheaded 600 to 900 Jewish men. The Qur'an says: "God helped the faithful in the stress of war... He made you heirs of their land, their houses, and their goods and of yet another land on which you had never set foot before. Truly, God has power over all things." Thus was a standard set: kill male Jews, take all their belongings, rape their women, God will support you. The idea that the group God implicitly DIDN'T/ DOESN'T support might NOT need the security of having its own state, with its own defence force, police and judiciary, is grotesquely stupid.
Such a good interview. I saw him interviewed by Piers Morgan and came away not learning anything apart from how to make an obviously good man look bad in a clickbait interview. Really appreciate the interviewers letting him speak. 👍

As a Muslim I wholeheartedly and in the most strongest and unequivocal terms condemn what Hamas recently did. Israel should equally be held to account for decades of committing similar atrocities against the Palestinians. Sadly, real politik in the world is such that only those wielding power and influence are able to influence the narrative, not the weak or downtrodden.
As a Jew and an Israeli (though not living there) I agree with you. We didn't rape and behead etc but I put that aside. Every hassid in Beit shemesh should personally be made to hand over the keys of his house to a Palestinian family in a big ceremony, and Israel Should be isolated from the world economy until that happens
But they agree on the land many years ago. Just move on. Show us you are much better than us. Build something, like schools not bombs, teach your children compassion not to kill the “enemy”. Come on

@@jacobkogan Terrorist is a very loaded word. It basically means that a bunch of criminals are executing the most horrific crimes under the guise of some political belief. In other words criminals end off. However, the reality is more complicated. As the Ambassador said why are Israel not "terrorists" for bombing innocent civilians. Oh but they are a country and the rules of crime change for them. But do they. Also Hamas was elected and Palestine has a certain independence so any attack by Gaza could be looked on as an act of war and not a terrorist action. Was the US going into Iraq terrorism? Was USSR in Ukraine Terrorism? What is definate is that Israel is not looking on it as a Terrorist act, they are looking on it as an act war otherwise they would not be causing genocide to the entire Gaza people. So the Ambassador had every right not to be drawn in to that loaded question.

What an articulate and generous hearted man, an example of a decent human being; he's identified the tragic lack of wisdom in the international world order, a consequence of the rise of populist governments and politicians
It's the other way round: the lack of wisdom of International world order is bringing about the rise of extremism because politics have failed; they have sold the control of pur lives to banks and corporations. The system has failed and we must figure out an alternative. Right now, no one has one that's why there's so much unrest. I'm ranting...
I have absolutely total respect and admiration for the Ambassador, who has given me an history lesson and an understanding of the conflict through this interview , with all the questions from Rory and Alistair helping me to understand a lot more than I thought I understood about this conflict.
His history is also flawed as well. There had never been a Palestine or a plestinian identity for so-called centuries. The region has been in constant flux with various nations, having conquered the region and immigrants migrating to the region .
While it maybe being more of a rhetorical one, Mr. Zomlot raised the question of how they are supposed to defend themselves and getting international recognition. The more I try to educate myself on the issue, the more hopeless it seems for the palestinians especially since Israel pretty much owns the international stage for decades. So how is palestine supposed to move forward? The west don't seem to care much how they are being treated by Israel. Other than that, great content. Keep it coming!
If Germany had occupied Britain after WW1, moved Germans into most of the land and consigned British people into tiny enclaves subject to regular bombing. Well that wouldn't justify terrorism against those new German civilian occupiers, but you'd understand why someone might become radicalised into believing it was.
Or perhaps if they'd won WW2, but then instead of occupying us with German soldiers, they'd gifted Britain to Italy because it was part of the Roman empire during the Biblical era - enforcing the Italian 'right to return', so to speak...
That’s what makes Britain though, the Saxons invaded as did the Normans and the celts. That’s what humans do. They migrate and take land from each other. That’s reality, and people want to survive and defend themselves against the other.
Ambassador Zumlot just kills it with this interview despite the absolute horrors of what the Palestinians are living and have lived through to produce a human like this is absolute stunning. Ambassador Zumlot is such a pleasure to listen to.
I have been searching numerous sites to learn and gain an understanding of the current tragedy and have only found shouting matches seemingly encouraged by the short-sighted comperes. What you are doing here is crucially important by being non-judgemental and eliciting patient and respectful explanations by these decent men from both sides. Thank you. My heart bleeds for all the people who have been and are suffering so terribly.
As someone who's trying to absorb the historical context of this conflict, Rory's questions at 14:45 and 16:52 were very pertinant. Excellent interview so far - I'll save the second half for later because these podcasts are intense listening (and so refreshing from the usual diatribe)
Approaching the 11min mark they didn't pull him up on the part about the Balfore declaration. Which I found have the interviewee the ability to misappropriate the actual history. Something you might wish to look into further.
7:03 there's a cut about accords, commentator conveniently omit that 2023 has had the most deaths of any year since 2005, over 200 in that year alone. In addition, the accords only afforded the west bank misery, as they resulted in more lands being taken, less rights being given and more oppression of the population as a whole.
It is some sort of dopamine listening to his presentation. He is smart when it comes to handling Western mainstream media. Though he is given limited time. he has never wasted every minute. In this interview, he is given the luxury of time to go into greater details on the crux of matters that relate to the Plastenian people.
The problem with most people is that they judge events in isolation. What happens today is influenced by what happened yesterday, a week ago, a month ago, a year ago, 100 years ago and even 1000 years ago. Events are never in a vacuum. You can't brush aside the history of a region to fortify a specific position.
Thanks so munch for your program! I love the way you give the guest the ability to state views, then state a well balanced response. I also appreciate the way in which the interview is held in a civil atmosphere. Your program is much needed !
Rory thank you for your approach to this difficult dialogue - encouraged by the rational voice of the Palestinian Ambassador Hussar Zomlot his calm voice helps people to understand anew how to confront their own fears and limitations, and to question conventional views presented by the establishment and the established media. Through this process of dialogue, we can potentially find the inner strength and resilience to face this ongoing tragedy with some fragments of hope.
I have been following you guys for a while as a middle eastern scientist living in the UK. a lot to say but I only want to mention that it is very difficult to understand and have an empathy with a person whose country has been occupied in her/his or parents/grandparents lifetime and heard the stories from them. same is valid for a person whose parents/grandparents have been killed by another ethnic/political groups or the government etc. I am not a Palestinian or Israeli but have experienced both situation in my family. Both nations have lots of traumas. As people living in the rest of the world, we should help this conflict to be solved asap. I know what you are trying to do is to help this happening. I hope the war and the conflict/occupation (whatever it is called) end soon…
Excellent discussion. Yes, the historical context is important - The Balfour Declaration; even the Sykes-Picot Agreement which basically determined how the Middle East was split up following WW1 and the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
Gosh, i cannot believe that he holds himself so well knowing that so many of his family have died in the past several days. I commend this man for his courage, patience, self-control, warmth, hope. He is thr light at the end of the tunnel.
Zomlot is one of the most incredible speakers I've seen on this podcast. So composed and fluent when dealing with such emotional, personally traumatic, and catastrophic topics... in his second language!
A sensible and much needed discussion. Well done guys for chairing this important contribution to the sort of dialogue that can get us out of this mess and stop the dreadful bloodshed.
@@libertasdemocratiam887 Talk to the people who want to talk. And don't make it harder for them to talk by building settlements and unnecessarily making Palestinians' lives more difficult or dangerous. Hamas are currently being taken care of militarily, so no need for dialogue there. Hezbollah are powerful in Lebanon, so they won't be destroyed, but (as we are seeing now) both sides can avoid all out war due to the mutually assured destruction dynamic. All the serious territorial disputes are with the Palestians (Syria can't do anything about theirs) so that's who Israel needs to talk to.

I don't know if anyone else feels this. But it feels as though both Rory and Alastair have seriously stepped up and taken ownership to give in depth interviews like this. It will never be the whole story as each individual in gaza and israel will have their own story. But the context and nuance produced by these interviews is pivotal. Thank you
What a beautiful soul, so passionate, warm, yet, always so articulate, composed reasoned, and particularly assertive. I call for him to become the president of the Palestinians. So proud of you Ambassador Husam Zomlot
Thank you guys for a very thorough discussion of this vexed issue. The Palestinians deserve such a decent and educated - in the best sense of the word - representative and the U.K. is indeed fortunate that their Ambassador can hopefully have discussions like this with our parliamentarians which could pave the way for peace talks.
Thank you, thank you for doing all these interviews. It is an incredible emotive complicated issue and I am so grateful to you for creating a space where I can learn more. Why can't our main stream news be this factual, educational, open minded, sensible, empathetic, reasonable and fair? I hugely appreciate this channel and all of the interviews I have watched, really am becoming a huge fan of Rory.S.
These interviews are a public service, Yuval/Husam, a revelation in understanding, both made me cry. Your style is a masterclass, both of you. You’re wasted in politics. Do keep it up, we need to understand. Rigour without aggression, deep knowledge at your fingertips. Looking forward to further lessons. Thanks.
What an excellent interview / discussion, and the others you've done on this painful topic. You can see the hurt on all sides, but the ambassadors point about applying the international rules fairly and firmly, and the previous agreements, is a powerful one.
I used to hate Alastair Cambell. I have always found Rory Stewart to be an eccentric but down to earth and fair politician. This podcast has really shined a light on Alastair. Thjs podcast has been amazing and I feel as though this could make a change for the positive in the politics in the UK. Massive respect for this interview! The ambassador deserves to be heard on MSM much more, however they seem to think Israeli lives are much more important than the Palestinian human beings.
Thank you both for this amazing interview, first time listening to a guy who born in a refugee camps, Fine man . love, prayers and freedom to Gaza and Palestine
Nice conversation. I like that they gave Zomlot so much time and patience but I still find it thought-provoking to compare the level of attention given to detailed, emotional descriptions of the events involving the Israeli concert-goers with the minimal almost distant descriptions from the hosts of the bombings affecting Palestinian hospitals, homes, and children. I believe that every life is valuable, and my empathy extends to both Israeli and Palestinian children. It's disheartening to see the stark difference in coverage, especially when considering that the number of Palestinians affected has doubled, which intensifies my concern about the prevailing apathy.
Bombs are quite impersonal and numbers aren't very moving emotionally, that's why. Then there's the shock of ordinary people on an ordinary day getting killed unexpectedly. After this happened, the Israeli response was expected, so wasn't as shocking. Then there's the desensitisation that comes from the fact that the Israeli bombs are a retaliation for Hamas' attack. While the victims are ordinary Palestinians who had nothing to do with it, human nature pushes us into an "us vs them" where we can avoid empathy because it was people on "their side" getting killed.
Thank you for creating space and allowing time, commodities in such short supply and for illustrating the interviewer art of keeping quiet and letting someone speak.
The Ambassador’s answer at 32:00 succinctly describes the context of the Palestinian cause-that the world ignores-leaving tragedy and horror as the inevitable consequence.

@@AA-yc8yr I agree with you overall, but that's a little bit harsh. While the most "rational" option would be to sign pretty much any deal they can before it's too late and things get worse, doing so would be political (and perhaps literal) suicide for a Palestinian politician, and even then, the success of it still depends on whether the relevant players on both sides are willing to stick with and implement it. Thanks to groups like Hamas and the Israeli far-right parties, this is far from guaranteed.
Keep up the great work! I thank you guys from bottom of my heart for making these interviews as objectively as possible. I listened to Mr. Harari's interview, that was great too. Such unbaised approach and try to understand the root cause really opens the door for genuine political solutions, something most mainstream media needs to learn.
Ambassador Zomlot, for days you have been doing a great job standing up to all loud and biased mainstream media, which never tried to actually listen to you! Thanks for the hosts, for being professional and truly curious about and respectable towards your guests! I listened to Yuval Harari’s interview, and whereas I didn’t agree with his analysis in many bits which seemed to be carried out by the understandable emotions of the moment, I love that you give an open platform for all opinions! Well done
Agreed, Israel has continuously and with impunity been expelling and occupying Palestinian land. And then complain about violent backlash. And on the basis of fear, take more land. Israel holds all the power, is the catalyst of this catastrophe, and must be take the first step to recognition and peace.
If the Israelis had arrived with gratitude and the will to make a peaceful homeland with their neighbours we would not be in this mess. The fact that Israel was given the bulk of the territory in the land of Palestine to found their state when they were the minority of the people did not help. Expectations were set all wrong right at the get go.
A brilliant spokesperson for the Palestinian people. Here , he’s given a voice but in other more egregious interview situations he still maintains remarkable composure.
Husam is a great person. he has had to deal with so much stupid rhetoric from Western media and politicians, but always handled it with wisdom and humility.
So useful to hear such an article and eloquent representative for the Palestinian people. Very necessary when so many people have such strident opinions.
It's nice to see an actual conversation with Husam Zomlot, a real polite discussion of issues. Usually I see nothing but intentional badgering of Mr. Zomlot on other media, as if he's used solely as a media punching bag. Thanks for this conversation. Thanks for letting him speak.
brilliant interview and interesting to see the other side of what most of the media portray ...the genuine gentle side of ambassador zomlot explains the Palestinian plight
Hats off to such a refined and knowledgeable diplomat. The very humane political solution under international laws should be the most significant answer for this ongoing conflicts and bringing peace and harmony.....!!!
Ambassador has done many interviews past fortnight. I’ve seen some very heated ones. He was much more relaxed with you two. But that’s because it was more a discussion. More time. And you both know more of the history. His Piers Morgan was really fiery. This was by far the most measured and enjoyable. I fully understand his frustrations. He’s extremely educated on his Nation’s history.
Alastair makes a very good point about whataboutery being a real issue in discussions about topics like this one. Thank you TRIP for providing an important space for different perspectives to actually articulate a thought, share their worldview without judgement or tedious gotcha style journalistic tactics. In a world consumed by noise you’ve brought some much needed signal.
He’s the most reasonable Palestinian speaker I’ve seen, but his vision is not what the majority of Palestinians in Israel seem to want, hence why his faction is exiled. Gazans elected Hamas. They don’t want peace in their own separate territory- they want to replace Israel and control the whole holy land. Of course that’s impossible, and if they somehow got the land they’d still be poor and in conflict due to their ideology. But that hasn’t stopped them from wasting thousands of lives and millions of dollars in aid pursuing it. Instead of becoming independent by building infrastructure, they dug tunnels & bought weapons. The population is majority underage, impoverished and radicalized. Israel left Gaza in 2005, so the slogan “free Gaza” is a misnomer. If it’s a prison, then the whole Middle East is acting as warden.
The ignorance you display here is quite breathtaking. Open prison, military occupation, no freedom of movement. The wardens are Israili IDF sanctioned by the might of the US and the head nodding lap dogs the UK
@@KidStarverHALVEDhisVote She displays basic survival skills, when you deal with beasts like HAMAS/ISIS, you keep them in the cage. How nice it must be to support from the comfort of your cozy home all those poor people that are capable to shoot babies, burn people alive and rape women.
A sensitive and rational interview and Ambassador Zomlot is a credit to his people. The question he asks about what exactly the Palestinians are supposed to do? They can't be peaceful and they can't be armed! This is the question that no one really ever answers.
5***** clarity.! Yes, in the early 20th century, Palestine was a diverse region with a majority Arab population, including both Muslims and Christians, as well as a significant Jewish minority all living peacefully. The Balfour Declaration, issued by the British government in 1917, expressed support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine. This declaration had a profound impact on the course of history in the region, leading to the creation of the State of Israel in 1948 and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. The Balfour Declaration was issued during World War I, when Britain was seeking the support of Jewish communities around the world in its war against Germany. The declaration was also influenced by the Zionist movement, which was advocating for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. The Balfour Declaration was controversial from the start. Many Arabs opposed the declaration, arguing that it would lead to the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine at the expense of the Arab population. The British government tried to balance the interests of the Arab and Jewish populations by promising that the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine would not prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities. However, the Balfour Declaration ultimately led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians. In 1948, when the British withdrew from Palestine and the State of Israel was declared, many Palestinians fled their homes in fear of persecution. The Palestinian refugee crisis remains a major challenge today. The Balfour Declaration is a complex and controversial issue with a long and lasting impact on the Middle East. It is important to understand the historical context of the declaration and the different perspectives on it in order to have a informed discussion about the issue.
Not all fled, most were forcibly removed from their homes by terrorist Jewish groups such as the Irgun, Haganah, and Stern gangs. There were many massacres as well, and many documentaries on them, like "Tantura" which is an Israeli production as an example. More than 400 villages and towns were completely destroyed as well. It was very ugly. To say they fled persecution is an understatement. Israel's creation was not as pretty as they paint it to be, far far from it.
A brilliant brilliant interview - congratulations to all three of you, Thank you very much for this.. Finally an intelligent thoughtful and non sensationalist interview which is educational and generates the right type of thought. The situation between Israel and Palestine is very complex and has become so over so many years due to the lack of a fair and decent political solution and being properly implemented. What has happened since October 7th and and on the run up to then is something I liken to a pressure cooker .. and it finally exploded when all could not be contained any more. Horribly sad situation full of pain and grief all round .. Hopefully this horrifying episode will finally give birth to a final and lasting political solution that is fair, balanced, honest and put properly in place.

My guess is he saying an unverified report about the beheading of babies.

Well put.
@@leongreenAbsolutely agreed. This podcast hasn't just improved political discourse. They've perfected it
It's good to hear both sides.
Like Rabin should've been kept safe, I hope he will have the time and life to continue good work on this issue.
Yes, he somehow forgets the suicide bombings, the billions of dollars given by the stupid westerners which ere either stolen or invested in terror and chauvinistic education system, sometimes even praising hitler.

Ambassador Zomlot is so eloquent and articulate even though English is not his mother tongue 👏🏻👏🏻thanks for this calm conversation, what a difference between yesterday’s interview with Zomlot and Piers and this one 🙏🏻well done!
Knowledge is power, but at the same time infuriating when it leaves you helpless. The term ignorance is bliss has never been truer.
Well said.
Studying the same, for the same reasons
Also, remember that Hamas was democratically elected and are a resistance group from the Zionist occupiers.
Could not agree with you more.

Thank you Rory and Alistair for a beautiful podcast ..this should be watched by all ..ambassador Zumlot is a amazing man..a man of reason
I am only 15 minutes in but its wonderful to hear him speak about his country and his culture. I hope one day he can return to palestine as a citizen of a sovereign country
God willingly ❤
👍
You say it so well
Yeah, more emphasis needs to be placed on the fact that many Palestinians can not directly condemn Hamas because of concerns that Hamas will retaliate against them/their families.
And end with an outlandish post mortem backstabbing of the wise, sincere and dignified guest who has been received - with bigotry and disrespect.
Its going well because the other two are not Israelis. If it was directly opposing sides, it would be very difficult.

The graciously condescending Stewart who makes a point of displaying the aristocratic ring on his little finger in each podcast is in fact of Jewish lineage and his bias informs all of his positions and veneer-thin postures of impartiality « reinforced » by his fellow spin doctor.
Consistently, he cuts off the ambassador mid sentence as he speaks freely, informatively and positively, in order to direct the discussion towards the political agenda and set narrative.
The hosts seem deaf, blind and stifled by their stale set of prejudices and convenient clichés, refusing to be surprised by the views and perspective of a scholarly, politically moderate man of civilization, knowledge and remarkable openness.
Of the Balfour Agreement and all that ensued, the Ambassador speaks of a certain « colonial arrogance that led us to where we are today ».
The descendants of that arrogance are clearly alive and well judging by the hosts’ rigidly superciliously set mindsets.
Paris
This is what it means to show both sides, without bias. Well done.
There is bias. Sad that you don't see it. But I suppose, this is why this subtle guiding of an audience is so effective. They were way more sympathetic to the Israeli guest.
I agree. I am pretty disturbed at how they are absolute rejective, when any listener would naturally be empathetic. This bias and slightly nosy handwaving is incredibly subtle, but still strong in its own way.@@abdvs325
Let's not be patronising: Balfour Declaration, Sykes Picot line, the mandate! The duplicity of the British. We started this mess! Some of us know the history.
How does that help?
@@FireflyOnTheMoonYeah the Balfour Declaration doesn’t help the British reputation your right
Unfortunately, we can't change history, so there is no point in blaming anyone. The people involved at the time are all dead, and they would no doubt say they were wrong in hindsight.
Yeah britain has a bloodstained history, yes it should be apologised for, no, pointing a finger mid-crisis does not help end it.
The Qur'an says:
"God helped the faithful in the stress of war... He made you heirs of their land, their houses, and their goods and of yet another land on which you had never set foot before. Truly, God has power over all things."
Thus was a standard set: kill male Jews, take all their belongings, rape their women, God will support you.
Yes! Thanks for speaking with Husam Zomlot. Watching his interviews on BBC/legacy media had me questioning whether empathy still existed in any form. He's an interesting man with many valuable insights.
Hard not to be impressed by this restrained refined diplomat....a credit to his race. "we are the victims of the victims" and tragically victim has become tyrant. We as moral human beings must hope and pray for peace and resolution.

@@alexrothwell2053 I agree. Later yesterday I chanced on a piers Morgan interview on the TV. There was a very agitated guy being interviewed, I soon realised it was the ambassador, it was the opposite of this interview and painful to watch. Morgan went on and on trying to force out of the Ambassador whether he agreed Hamas were terrorists. He did not want to answer a question like that and he became very flustered. @@patricksmith4424 "Morgan went on and on trying to force out of the Ambassador whether he agreed Hamas were terrorists. He did not want to answer a question like that " why not? what does he have to hide?
Re: your discussion at the end (without the ambassador), I totally agree that this is a great interview format.
I learned so much also. A really great interview.
His history is also flawed as well. There had never been a Palestine or a plestinian identity for so-called centuries. The region has been in constant flux with various nations, having conquered the region and immigrants migrating to the region .
Thanks for posting.
I'm really happy to see the ambassador Mr Husam Zomlot expressing his enthusiasm about the place he comes from.
He is serving and representing his people well.
Thank you for hosting the other side of the story and a great guest
What a great ambassador.
I'm new to this channel but the coverage of this is the best I've seen so far so thank you.
The Ambassador’s answer at 32:00 succinctly describes the context of the Palestinian cause-that the world ignores-leaving tragedy and horror as the inevitable consequence.

Very good interview. Must respect this man's fight for his people, and hopefully one day soon, country.
Well done
The Palestinian ambassador was brilliant.
This is one of the most respectful interviews I’ve watched in a long time.
My favorite interview so far, I’m glad I have started following your channel!
How refreshing to listen to three intelligent, sensible and calm professionals hold a open discussion about very complex issues…
Right before my lecture on the matter - perfect timing!
Love this man. A voice of reason
The idea of a Jewish Homeland began long before WW1.
We also arent hearing much talks on the aspects of the GAS AND OIL FORTUNES sitting right under the Gaza strip.
And this would put the focus back on why were the Jews of ww2 European shtetls and much more resembled what the Palestinians character are, religious more, and family ,and not in this modern generation of Israelis who didnt before exist as such, but the US and UN monopoly mob weaponized globalists powers, speaking of Ukraine, and JOE BIDEN straight up THE CLUB OF ROME! UN luciferians church founded ,San Francisco is their first charter, NYC their World HQ. Yeah so why not accept the Jewish refugees then but place them in Palestine , what is up with Netanyaha i n gas oil Gaza!?
Why this human rights issue not seeming to be easily reconciled with the US constitution and pluralistic values a nd the laws, treaties and apartheid / war crimes, human rights abuses, annexxations, idf brutalities, now exposed in several recent documentaries by former idfs Israelis who feel guilty are making confessions in detailed accounts in films. That movement is long come. Hard for them to do in Israeli political government climates! They have sharply dangerous divisions and suffer similar of other world order UN transformed country, sovereignty republic independances are battling within each like this. Its very troubling! They want to take away all our human rights AGENDAS 2030 ETC. SO HOW ARE WE TO GET THE WORLD TO APPROPRIATELY TREAT PALESTINIANS AND ISRAELIS AND LEADERS AS ACCORDINGLY TO THE INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS THAT OUGHT TO MATCH NEARLY TO ALL CONSTITUTIONS OR HUMAN RIGHTS EQUALLY . OTHERWISE IF NOT THEN IT MEANS THERE IS INDICATIONS OF CORRUPTION, EXTORTIONS, INSURRECTIONS, COUP DES TAS HAPOENING. HOW ELSE CAN IT BE RECONCILED!❤
