- The geiko and maiko of Kyoto, keepers of time-honored traditional dance and music, are concentrated in five kagai (geisha districts) across the city. Each of the districts performs a large-scale dance for the public once a year, and Kamishichiken district's Kitano Odori runs from March 25th to April 7th to usher in the spring. Two performances are held each day, at 13:30 and 16:00, and tickets cost 4,300 yen. For an additional 500 yen guests can enjoy a cup of green tea and a sweet before the play, which also comes with a commemorative plate. Tickets can be purchased online for those with Japanese credit cards, procured through travel agents, or reserved with assistance at the Tourist Information Center in Kyoto Station.
For more information, please visit the Kitano Odori page on our website:

It's like watching a painting come to life.
Great description.
i know right! she is like a painting that has come to life
and that is what this, and ballet, both have in common.
That's geishas for you! They are a living treasure ❤
Oh the maiko and geisha portraying animals with tails and ears. sooo cute!
Japanese culture is so beautiful! It's like they have a world of their own! How amazing!
The dancers are always so graceful, even as woodland creatures. And I'm always amazed how simple eye movements can portray so much. The musicians really put on a fantastic showing of skill as well.
0:34 when she appears I had to stop the video. WHAT A BEAUTY, what grace, what elegance!!! I really have to go to the kitano or the bon odori before I die
Me too
that is Umewaka, she retired from being a geiko I think
I wanna go soo bad when I visit Japan I love the geiko culture
@@cobrabeebop yes she did
@@cobrabeebop she is also an oiran
The older dancer has such energy and control in her movement, incredible!!
Yes, even every turn of her head, is just so.
Their kimono's are very beautiful, with their vibrant colors, just like the performers of the elegant dances!
Looks like Umechie and Fumiyuki weren't in this performance, must've been their day to perform the tea ceremony. If anyone is curious after the Kitano Odori, Ichitaka (maiko in deep blue kimono) became a geiko a few weeks after. Geiko Ichimomo retired, but she retired to get married! Having stayed up until the very last day she could as a geiko. Ichikoma (maiko in deep purple kimono) retired sometime in June :( and Umehina (maiko in light green kimono) became a senior at the end of July!
how do u know??
Just an update on Umehina, she had her erikae and became a full geiko this march
@@princerschannel7426 You can follow them in social media, there are tumblrs like miss my loko or geimaiko, there are forums like Tsurukomaiko and Immortal Geisha and such
Some of them even have instagram, like Geiko Satsuki from gion kobu
@@jvjm10 really? Wow, she grew up so quickly!
OMG, the beauty: 7:00 to 7:00. What a visual impact! Few colors and lines brought out all the harmony.
Maiko with bunny eats hopping around, too cute! ❤ They're all so beautiful and talented, the performers, the singer's, the musicians, all of them!👘🌸❤
RUclips why is this in my recommendations? Not that I am complaining, it's beautiful😍
0:34 her entrance is just striking. Her beauty, the lighting, the music I literally took my breath away.
Wow there is Katsuna san playing shamisen! Great to see her progress :)
Ester Méryová thank you for that confirmation. I knew it when i first saw this video. It really was the beautiful and talented katsuna.
@@joeyjudan4586 who is katsuna there?
@@princerschannel7426 The youngest one playing, unfortunatly she quit due to health issues

Every so Beautifully, I was lucky enough to see one of these shows when I stayed in Kyoto in 2018, it's just MAGICAL
Lucky you
I’ve always loved the kimonos and the make up. The brightness of the outfits and the red accent on the white makeup is 😍😍😍
Wonderful!!!!! My admiration from Spain to Japan 🙏

I'm pretty sure this is a separate art form. don't know for sure. definitely beautiful, though!
I absolutely adore all the little woodland animals scampering around! That is so cute and pretty. Enchanting 🌸🌺💖
(translate with google)
This is so elegant and precise, you can see the artistry in every motion, no matter how small or subtle. Absolutely beautiful

its facinationg to see that no th´wo performers ever look the same. their expressions and really every little movement is so detailed its amazing
beautiful dance, I love this culture and I love the maikos, geishas and the oiran, thanks for the video
I love Kyoto!!!
nobody:
animals cheering on two women having a dance fight in the middle of the woods
Just let the meme die.
This convinced me. I am convinced that the modern Japanese animation culture did not arise suddenly. It already had hundreds of years of accumulation!
The animals are actually battling on sides in the dance fight :)
This meme often sounds so disrespectful just let it die
This is so beautiful 🤩
Extraordinary piece... a true moving Art !!! Grace, technique and beauty combined ... how delightful !!!
So much
Beauty and Elegance🌸

Oh my!!! I even see some of my favourite Maikos in this video! Umehina looks so pretty in here *_* !! Thank you so much for this precious video!!
I'm planning to visit Kyoto in autumn and was wondering where to see those dances. Can you recommend the places?
Sure! The Autumn's Odori is very famous and it's called "Gion Odori", celebrated at Gion Higashi's Hanamachi. I think it should be the first week of November. However, know that the tickets for this events are VERY expensive and hard to get.
Good luck!!!
I think asking your travelling agency or your hotel would be the best bet.
Actually, from the desctiption: 'Tickets can be purchased online for those with Japanese credit cards, procured through travel agents, or reserved with assistance at the Tourist Information Center in Kyoto Station.' This is for Kitano Odori, but it probably works for other Odori as well.
Tickets for the Gion Odori can be purchased at the Tourist Information Center at Kyoto Station. They cost 3500 yen each - 4000 if you want to participate in the tea ceremony before the performance. You purchase a voucher at the Information Center for the specific date and time you want to see the performance. On the day itself, you go to the theater and when the doors open, go inside and exchange your voucher for a ticket.
I went to see the Odori two years ago and did not have any problem purchasing a voucher for the performance the day after I bought my voucher. The theater at that time still had some vacant seats too.
Just a warning: they do not have lockers at the theater, so though they might offer to store a large bag for you, it is easier to just bring a small handbag. The seats are smallish and do not have much leg room.
muchas gracias por subir esto😄😄
Friggin amazing love 🇯🇵
Very beautiful and graceful watching this spectacular performance. I love colorful colors and the story behind dances.

Lo más hermoso del mundo ,gracias.
The music is a therapy
I like it a lot...tq the video
Cute little forest critter outfits as tradition: adorabe.
The storm scared the little critters:

Que hermoso, que lindo seria verlo en persona
...what more interesting is their ability to neatly change the color of what they wear (im not comfortable to say costume) in a given time. Wonderful!
Que lindo !
when i go to Kyoto i must watch this
adorable my Maiko Geisha I love you
This is awesome xD
When living in Japan several years ago, I got to attend the Miyako Odori performance in Gion. It was an amazing experience.
This is like time traveling 100 years back.

Mesmerizing. I felt like a bug irremadiably attracted to light.
Gratidão! Muito lindo! Embora eu não entenda o significado. Mas eu sinto muita paz. Até divulguei no meu face.
Ive decided to perform this to
Our Christmas party this Tuesday
😅 Hopeful to impress my classmates and my adviser 😂
Wow, they move so well with those kimonos, i heard it's hard to move wearing it
i would love to see one of these in person
Oh my goodness these elaborate costumes!!! 😱
Clearly Japanese culture is the most highly developed and intricate in the world.
1:41 that was so hype
❤️
Omg I'm in love with Kabuki dance ♥️😘🥰💋💋💋💋
Is not kabuki dance y japanese traditional dance. Kabuki is the theare play by men.
Osmm Culture Of Japan ❤️❤️😘😘✨✨
Epic
I've always wanted to be a geisha ( I'm african american) but I'm scared of what people will think
There haven't been any african american geisha yet, though there have been foreign geisha from other Asian countries, european countries, the united States, and south american countries who practiced in Tokyo. It takes a lot of dedication and discipline to even be allowed to try, as well as the person needing to be fluent in japanese. But it's certainly not impossible if that's something you really want to work towards^^
@@moushimoushi8963 thx for the encouragement
❤️❤️❤️
I am not used to how slow these traditional shows are, as much as I enjoy the Japanese culture.
