Totally and utterly agree. Perhaps the Fire Service and Police will find the subs who caused the fire and placed soil in the way of the Fire Service. Subs only have guts to fart with.

I don’t think that the fact is was done on purpose was even remotely considered or cared about.
The fact that the roads were blocked by piles of mud high enough to stop the fire engines pretty much disregard any attempt at claiming an accident.
The new owner clearly weighed up any losses they’d take compared to the profits they’ll get from the land.
      Absolutely despicable.
History must be remembered and respected.
I hope the new owners and the professional arsonist they hired loose everything and the council are forced to rebuild but it will never be the same building.
That building that has been there longer that America existed.

Shanehumberstone WHAT????!!!! If that fact can be proved couldn’t the current owners of the property be investigated for insurance fraud-having a so called “arson” “accidentally” torch the place in order to collect insurance money and then use the payout to finance their own project on the site? That sounds extremely suspicious to me! Has anyone seriously investigated this claim, especially considering that the Crooked House was a national and international treasure?

    • @h-dawg969
      @h-dawg969 Год назад

@@monicacall7532 how can anyone try to claim anything other than it being done on purpose.
The fact of the roads being blocked off before hand, preventing any fire engines getting there literally proves beyond any doubt that it was on purpose.

I was sat on a bench admiring the views and got talking to a lady only to discover that she lived on the same estate that we previously lived at in Cannock prior to emigrating in 1982. Considering the age alone without the fab subsidence,it is very surprising.

The first video of yours I watched was about the "Solway Firth Spaceman". It was so well done I immediately sub'd to your channel. This video was equally well done, but with a melancholic air-- due to the very senseless fire followed by the inevitable demolition of the historic pub. I would have loved to have gone there for a pint or three (or four), followed by lunch some time after. One can hope the perpetrators of the fire will be caught and duly prosecuted, but that erasure of history and iconic value is what remains. Thank you for your excellent reportage of this very sad news. I look forward to your future videos.

It makes me sad how buildings get burned down for profit. We've had a couple where my family lives that are clearly arson because building companies want rid of old buildings that get in their way. It's shameful.

That will not subtract from the fantastic job you put into making this documentary about a loss that's happening way to often around the world. Old culture is torn down and replaced at a rapid pace. We need to stop and think about what all those buildings have contributed with, and just be thankful for what they have told us and made with our lifes.

I'm so grateful to you for bringing us this video at (as it turned out) such a timely moment. Thanks to you I decided to plan a visit. Sadly, I was too late... I fear a lot of our shared heritage these days is being lost permanently. It is now ONLY saved in the form of photos, videos, drawings etc. They call it 'preservation by record'. Personally, I don't think this is good enough by far. However, thank goodness for your video or I and many like me would never have known the magic of the Crooked House at all. We all need to be aware that our built heritage is so easily destroyed, no matter where in the world it is, and once gone it is gone forever. As you rightly said, it can never be authentically replaced. Thank you again for giving me the chance to see the Crooked House at its best.

Bravo! You and I both share a desire to preserve and restore our architectural and cultural heritage. I live in a part of the US that considers anything over 50 years old as ancient, and ancient somehow means decrepit and bad.
Just in the 35 years I’ve lived in my home so many architectural gems from the early years of my town’s founding have been lost to “progress” if you consider cheaply made apartment buildings which are already falling apart and ugly expanses of asphalt car parks “progress”. Fortunately, a former mayor tried to demolish the original university buildings from the 19th century and the public plus former university students raised the hue and cry. His plans were scrapped and we now have a beautifully restored city meeting center, public meeting rooms and a large public library situated in these buildings which were restored to showcase the original architectural details and handcrafted decorations from the artisans who built these marvelous buildings. We do ourselves no favors by trying to erase our past in order to be considered “modern”.

Lets hope they do rebuild, however it wont be the same. I did visit twice in my life. They rebuilt two old pubs in Manchester after the 1996 bombing. The old Wellington, and Sinclair's. They moved them both several hundred metres as well. ❤

I have been, I had a great time there. If I owned it I would make it even more spectacular, I would put wonky paintings in it, clean the clock up a bit... not set it on fire, and demolish it. Also it was cheap at £600.000, and was worth £1M easily.

I hope this shameful act results in the new owners not being able to do anything with the land, other than rebuild the Crooked House exactly as it was. I’m devastated by its wanton destruction purely for greed. It makes you wonder if the burglary was pre organised as well to make it less attractive as an ongoing business when it was sold. Everything about this is fishy, I just don’t know why nobody has been charged.
I also think everyone should boycott this brewery who sold it to be used for another purpose. I’m beginning to think the council weren’t on board with this, hence it’s destruction.

This is what developers do to get land with historical homes. They did this to a gorgeous Victorian Home in Los Angeles smashed it completely and it was under Historical Conservatory. I believe that they were fined double what they paid and have to rebuild it.

The pub has clearly been refurbished many times, there isn't many' original ' features there , l see no need to worry about the not authentic argument, a rebuild will be just a further twist in it's story.

Is it true that David Bowie wrote the lyrics to his 1970 song 'Black Country Rock' whilst having a pint of real ale at The Crooked House Pub? It's on the album 'The Man Who Sold the World' which is very fitting to this video topic. It makes you think, was the fire started deliberately so it could be demolished? There's a very old pub dating back to 1320BC near to where I live called 'The Scotch Piper' in Lydiate close to Liverpool. It had a devestating incident in December 2016 when its thatched roof caught fire in but was saved and re-opened in April 2017.

I watched your original video and thought that it was a beautiful building. A couple of days later i heard the news, a bit of shock was had.
My parents said that they were thinking of going there on the way up to my sister, but thats not happening now, but what i did do was play your video for them so they could at least see it in some way.
I think its worth saying that we can take a walk around it on Google earth.
