- MrDamo123's video of the Prefab Sprout 1991 Late Show performance, featuring Jordan the Comeback and Doo Wop in Harlem. Video restored using high end JVC SVHS for playback via an external time base correction box.
How Paddy is not acknowledged as the best songwriter since Gershwin is beyond me, just brilliant, fantastic video, love the song, great live version of a classic Sprout track
Are there any greater fans than Prefab fans? Great and worthy job of restoring.
Oh my!!! How one can tell Paddy is enjoying this moment sounding this good with his fellow musicians…. ! It’s so awesome to see it in his face and thy sound so tight!! Just magnificent!!
The apex of Western music with this stellar performance of a brilliant song penned by Master McAloon.
Beautiful guitar solo by Paul Harvey. Well done!
This song "Doo Wop in Harlem" from the album "Jordan the Comeback" is brilliant music piece, classy masterpiece regardless of genre, forms, types of music
Oh how I'd love to see them play live again.
The piano on Jordan here is amazing, what an impact. They were indeed tight, and Paddy looks like he’s having a blast. Lovely to see.
It’s such a shame that there’s not more quality footage from this era! thanks for the upload
doo wop makes me cry - thank you so much
Doo Woo In Harlem - Live! What a gem this video truly is. Thank you so much for posting 😭😭
The brilliant neil conte on drums
Not sure if you still check on this channel since it's been a year since you've last uploaded, but just wanted to say I really appreciate you keeping up with this channel with footage like this. It's so refreshing to see Prefab Sprout make music instead of mimicking themselves. It's especially refreshing to see other musicians help enhance their stuff, too. I'm sure many of us wish to say thanks for your effort to organize and restore this stuff (and your efforts to keep up Sproutology, too, if you're the same person doing that great deed as well).
outstanding album up there with steve mc queen...……………..rare footage
Yea my friend overseas made me listen to them...still sounds great 15 years later
One of my favorite groups of all time.
Magnifique groupe du génial Paddy McAloon en live ,magnifique ! FAN à vie ! Neil Conti à la batterie ,un formidable batteur !
Doo Wop is beautiful....belief is powerful even when blind faith is required. love this band.
was wendys mic turned on couldnt hardly hear her ..................... and what a voice she has..the last time they played live.....
Just stumbled upon this - fantastic rare footage! I love Prefab Sprout.
beautiful song
Outstanding!!!
the hot summer of 85 every car window played the frab
Grazie, bellissimo pezzo ❤
Stunning stuff...wonderful
Wow so few shots of Wendy.. almost like it's a conspiracy to keep her out of the shots. Strange.
Truly gifted - and you shared it with us. Thank you.
thank u PADDY & PS for the music, thank u BISONRAV for uploading! ♥ GOD bless u ♥
1 - Jordan: The Comeback 0:00 ; 2 - Doo Wop in Harlem 4:50
Awesome artistic talent at work above.
Jordan the comeback, another year passes and still not ejected from car CD player and back button regularly pressed!
takes me back to when they played this exactly the same at Queens Hall Bradford ...i was in awe
Class never fades - shame the record company wanted more Jumping Frogs and less real Sprouts
Doo wop in Harlem is gorgeous
Doo Wop... Along with the line from Ice Maiden: Death is a small price for heaven, ease my fears for the future. Thanks Paddy.
Thank-you so much for this Bisonrav, Just wonderful :).
So many brilliant elements to this extended workout of Jordan. First of all, it shows what a tight live band Sprout was, especially the rhythm section of Martin and Neil here, and not just Dolby's studio creation. The piano work during the chorus is even better and more addictive than on the record, too; as is the closing guitar solo. On top of all that, Paddy manages to convey an imagined Elvis comeback monologue with an imitation that never sounds corny or patronizing... oh, and Wendy is hot!
Yeah, Wendy wasn't much of a musician, was she .... I'm thinking she was "coached" a lot in the studio.
Well said Sir!
@@wmrxb15 A source of inspiration, so to speak ;-)
YES absoluty 😃
She's better than that. And you should be.
Thanks for saving this amazing bit of footage
the River Jordan, symbol of the biblical Promised Land!
Ohh, I SO love Prefab Sprout. Thank you for this - I'd never seen it!
Life saving music. Saved me in a blizzard on icy road. Anywhere I can buy this whole show?
Not much that can be done to improve the initial 30 second section sadly in the absence of a new tape. You may just be able to hear Vic Reeves saying "that's show business" in the lead in which is from the recording this was recorded over.
@kayzzkatherine - you're very welcome, and impressed there are people in the US who even know about this stuff, let alone who like it!
@bisonrav We are deep fans of quality. I stumbled into Tower Records one day and a very knowledgeable staff member said, "If you like this, take a listen to this..." A life long subscription then consumed me. I started in vinyl, progressed to CD, and now surf the interwebs for new nuggets Paddy and company.
It is sad that they were never were more deeply embraced in the greater US market. Even the god-like Paul Weller struggles to reach sizable audiences outside of NYC and LA in the States. Although here in Seattle it is a modest oasis, it still does not scale to make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for all the contributions. I have enjoyed them thoroughly. Most of the tele presentations were never available in the US.
@paulrv
Absolutely splendid solo! Great stuff!
i love this band💎
Another great tune from Jordan:The Comeback. Now if I could just find the Jesse James songs live...
Wow, the quality (or lack of) the audio is outshone by the content. Doo Wop In Harlem live! I'm foerver in your debt :)
End of the road I'm traveling..
these songs got me thru some pretty hard times
Gran solo de guitarra...............
Wonderful!!!
Not come out bad, has it? This was from a poor quality original tape but a bit of TLC has fixed most of that. Looking for more Sprout VHS to restore, if you have any, send me a message
Still appreciate your work 13 years later!
Imagine full concert like that. Are there anymore songs from that amazing live show?
glorious
Abençoados os que viram isto ou que puderam ver esta banda ao vivo
Wendy looks like she’s singing to a different song, I don't mean that in a bad way, it's a perfect counterpoint, the whole thing just sounds perfect
merveille des merveilles ! Merci beaucoup ! (Didier D'agostino batteur-compositeur professionnel Français on youtube)
i demand a better version of this
They were perfect band, classy, sophisticated, great musicians, perfect lyrics, production. Beautiful people.
When you see bands like Iron Maid, Motley
Crue, are overrated, respected, they never had a good song.
All their music are rubbish.
Prefab Sprout had several perfect songs.
Timeless, you can listen now they still great.
I think Paddy didn't want to play the game. Make compromises, I believe he is a perfectionist.
He only do what he thinks is perfect.
It's why they have so many great songs
oh i just respond every time. feels me like a god exists!
better than lennon
Paddy has the cup better furnished than John
Mira ese par de pelotas!, aquí tiene su like buen hombre
He looks like David Bowie's Thin White Duke. Could it be one of his influences?
Thankfully without the slicked back blonde rinse and the bad habits.
My favourite period of Bowie's work, just as Jordan is ons of Paddy's best, but if you think this look is so influential then you should know that bartenders and waiters all over the place are also in on it.
Paddy should wear the white jumpsuit if he wants to pretend to be Elvis. Lol
It's ok to be wrong, it just means you are growing.
Que guitarra 😱
Anybody know the keyboardist here?
@bisonrav I know about it. It helped, or hurt shape my life. I always believe it helped for sure. But how can you ever say or know for sure? I know I enjoy it and gravitate toward it. Devil may care...
@cransley - really good point, and a real "DOH!" moment as I'd always have done that on an audio transfer but was concentrating on wringing the best picture off the tape and forgot the audio bit. I don't have the tape any more - returned to the original owner MrDamo123, but seeing if I can persuade him to have a look.
So Jordan is a person, the Jordan he's singing about?
Boz Ajanovic I believe Jordan may be the Jordan river. Symbolic of the spiritual journeys made in the Old Testament to the river
@@tylerrigdon6795 Sounds logical...
He's singing about Elvis, as if he's still alive, just out of the limelight for a while, waiting for the right song for his comeback. Yes, Jordan River from the Bible, cross that and reach the promised land.
@@rachelc1492 Thank you. After eleven years I finally get that answer. Heh
Paddy cannot play, he has tinnitus which causes any sound to distort and sound like the garbage disposal. All sound is painful. A cruel joke played on us music lovers, liek when the angels took Marvin Gaye, "pulling off a sting".
I tried to but all that happened was my ear started to bleed...
Outstanding!!!!!!
