just use a surgeons loop for the weight and dropper loop for the hook. much stronger and easier.
Agree! and you can finish it with one more surgeons loop at the top to connect to your mail line via snap or another loop.
You really know what your talking about your spot on with everything just from my experience I can say that
This was awesome, and I'm glad the big sheepshead are coming around d soon.
I Love this setup and how Simple it is. Works great!
Glad you found this helpful!
Great video. Thank you!
my go to for sheepshead. Been having great luck with sand fleas!
I need to try that, I usually set up a fiddler crab trap a couple nights before and use those. Sand fleas are far easier to get haha
What is a fiddler crab trap?
I learned this rig on West Coast rock fishing charters. Good results.
Sheepshead are fun to catch and even better to eat.👍
Do you tie the leader to a swivel to the main line?
Thanks for video but surgeon loop for sinker is much faster. Also a dropper loop knot causes hook to sit up and down better for higher hookup ratios. Lastly hook loop needs to be shorter so you feel bite better.
My thought exactly
Great set up. I hope to Do some of that kind of fishing. I may see if I can do the same rif set up; double dropper rig , for perch. It may really be tough to get a Doubled line Through a Aberdeen hook eye. NOW ...there is an Idea, Speciality Aberdeen Hooks, with 2x ect bigger hook eye, so you can add and remove the hook.
Great Video, Much Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Tight lines!
Does it make a difference which side of the hook you insert the line? Looks like you went through the back of the hook. Any particular reason you didn’t go through the front?
Im no pro but i make pompano rigs and just use surgeons knot on all. I noticed that if the hook is facing the main line it can tangle easily. =)
I see sheepers in my Jetty piling, along with a bunch of smaller reef type fish that devours anything ( shrimp, crab, sandfleas). All that interference is a pain.
That non slip mono loop is tightened incorrectly. The tag end should be pulled towards the loop not in the opposite direction. That way the knot is streamlined with the tag pointing downward and weeds can’t snag on it.
The way it’s tied here, you’re making the knot round and might as well tie a surgeon’s loop which is much easier and faster. The non slip mono loop is a great knot for lures and weedy spots and overkill for weights
YES INDEED.... It was Tied Wrong. The good old Lefty Kregh Loop Knot, was designed to have the sniped off tag be pointing back, streamlined, back toward loop...SO, The little bit does not collect , snag on weeds. Great Fishing to ya This year.
Dead shrimp or blue crabs
Seems like most people are moving to bottom sweepers round herr.
Anyone else lost him when he said around the line itself?
1/4 oz jig and call it a day....
Nice!
The second knot you tied for the hook loses strength tying that way. Look up how to tie a dropper loop (San Diego style) and THAT is a much better, stronger loop for your hook.
Thanks for the feedback!
This method is more time consuming and not as efficient as it could be. You did a simple double surgeons for the hook but not the sinker. Double surgeons is good but it doesn’t completely go straight down with the main line once cinched. It also restricts a lot of the movement on the hook.
Better method is to do the double surgeons for the sinker and a loop knot for the hook. Looks like you put more work in getting the weight on there than the presentation and action of the hook
Great 1/2 a video It went black halfway through 🤷🏻♂️
Hi James! The video seems to be working fine on our end. Do you want to try it again? Maybe clear your cache and restart your computer as well?
Works fine for me
You go way to fast showing how to tie dropper loop
Great question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community (www.saltstrong.com/) where the coaches spend their time. The blog can be found here: bit.ly/3D3tTr5
