I live in Oklahoma, so, this twister OS ought to fit right in.
HAHAHA. So true
Oh very good lol. Oh dear...crazy man in the shop. ;)
It took me a second but I got it, lol
The single biggest obstacle to progress in computing has always been interoperability so this is a step in the right direction.
I think the biggest obstacle to progress in computing has been for a large part Microsoft.
It penalised PC vendors financially for selling computers with alternative operating systems.
Historically it consistently thwarted interoperability efforts such as JAVA. This went as far as making fundamental changes to low level hardware to actively prevent the running of alternative operating systems. Microsoft called open source "communism" and linux a "cancer". But isnt it true that open source is actually responsible for interoperability more so than any other software model? Linux for example will run on just about any CPU or architecture and so do its applications. In having source code available again aids porting to other operating systems and affords transparency regarding file formats and filesystems.
I think the biggest obstacle is, and was ever, to get at text or file from A to B.
Back in the days people were afraid and didn't understood the basics, at least they've been thought.
Then social media and cloud came up, and with all the sync thigs people never learned to copy over a file.
We still have email. we still have FTP, we still have SMB.
For most: the biggest challenge is still getting a text or file from A to B, even if all have interobale systems.
@@FunIsGoingOn I don't follow. I mean, this is text, so that seems fairly well sorted. Are you meaning it's an issue with ease of access or understanding for people that don't know how to transfer files?
You know you're getting old when you realize you're taking a trip down memory lane when you were in your early 40s when you got your first PC.
True. I was 37 in 1988, and the PC was a 386 with 640K of RAM, EGA graphics and a huge 20MB hard drive. With monitor and printer it cost $1800. Career-wise it was one of the best investments I ever made, I learned so much from messing around with DOS.
My daughter never really warmed to Raspbian, on her Pi3 b+, but the Windows themes on here could be a life saver with everything being in a familiar place. I'll prep this on an SD card to look over.
It works beat on a pi4 2/4gb, get one then put this on it, the pi4 is significantly faster aswell
Use it on my Pi400, it's definitely worth trying, even for younger kids
@7:51 "Twister 95 - or in other words, what a computer should really look like!" ...so true!! lol!
chicago95 the theme. this guy had stolen his work.
Christopher, congratulations on your channel; your presentations are always excellent with interesting and new content. Even though I do not currently have any RasPis or older machines, I still watch all your videos every week and gladly support your channel. It is a great resource for children and I will watch it with my own child when she is old enough. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for your kind feedback. :)
Christopher, just came here to thank you, it's been a while I was trying to migrate to Linux and when I casually was watching your channel and saw this video I though "this is it!" It's been two weeks since I got twister UI and it is absolutely brilliant for those who are migrating and want something a bit more familiar to start with, I already feel at home with the new system and I feel my personal computer is personal again. Thanks!!!
Great to hear!
One of your best videos yet. Even without any appearances by your glamorous assistants.
I've been using this happily for the last 6 months, it's a great os to use. I've setup a basic ovefclock to squeeze out extra performance. And switched the kernel to 64bit. You can also boot from USB which is nice,I'm currently using a sata 60gb ssd and I see read write speeds of 330mbs. Definitely an upgrade over the micro sd card. Commander pi is the app to use to switch over the kernel 64bit mode and overclocks.
Wait so you can use more than 3gb of RAM using CommanderPi? I'm thinking of getting a RP 4 B with 8gb of RAM and wa worried I'd waste that using Twister
@@mienoni5330 There is the option on the Commander pi to switch the kernel over to 64bit mode
That is an amazing find! Something that looks modern yet works very well on the Raspberry Pi. Twister OS really makes the Raspberry Pi shine!
I’m a hardware guy, this OS is impressive. Thanks 👋🏽
The other day I was working and thought "I'm gonna tell Chris about Twister OS", and eventually just forgot about it. And now, here it is, all overkill and even trying Wine on it.
Also, your old intro takes me back.
I'm waiting for a new SD memory to arrive so I can install it on the Pi 400, but already tried it on virtual machine. It's an amazing OS.
that windows xp boot sound brings me back!
Awesome video, been running Twister OS on my Raspberry Pi 4 4GB for a year as my main PC and OS. Really is an amazing OS. Also available for PC/Laptop under Twister UI and for RK3399 SBC's too, so not just limited to the Pi 4.
I loved the classic windows themes.
Twister OS is my "go to" OS on my Pi. Great video to expose this to other readers.
Retropie pre installed?
Now that's what i was looking for.
Had my immediate attention
Dude. SCUMMVM and other stuff that runs like a dream too? This really makes a mini-DT/retro game machine combo, doesn't it?
You still want to run it outside of the desktop environment. The UI is super slow if you run it in the DE, games do run well though regardless.
@@BittenHand19 Just put it on my Pi 4/8. Anything else need special set-up to run better?
Never heard of this distro, looks excellent! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you covered twisteros. It has really helped me gain more value out of my rpi4.
Very cool stuff stuff on a raspberry PI hardware. Cant wait to see how far we can go on the Pi hardware technology. Great content again!
Very happy to see twister OS review here. Thank you Gentleman!
Now here is a Pi OS I really have to try. I appreciate your review on it! Looking forward to your next video!
wow those themes are amazing and so easy to change seeing that XP and 95 made me smile.
"In other words what a computer should really look like." I completely agree!
"...twister95, or in other words, what a computer should really look like..."
Love it! Absolutely spot on! 100%
Kinda blew my mind a bit! Gotta try this one out. It's funny having these OS's within different large machines around the apartment taking up space. Now I can have-for the most part- a similar experience with a tiny SBC and a few mouse clicks!
Great operation system. I just got a pi 400. Loving it!!
Awesome! They did an excellent job, I was waiting for something like this. Thanks a ton Chris!!!
Going to test this out in the coming weeks. I still have the occasional 'Windows only' tasks, so I'd like to see how this (easy Wine setup) measures up. Thanks for another great video.
Twister OS is very impresive. I'm going to explore it right away.
I've been running this on my Pi 4gb for some time. Using the Win 10 dark theme with some icon changes (can't stand the stock icons), and overclocking to 2.1 GHz, it works quite nicely.
I'm using this for almost a year now. It's a great fast operating system. Highly recommend it to anyone.
Bonjour Chris, I have been using Twister for about a year on a Rpi 4Gb system overclocked to 2 Mhz, with a 128Gb SSD. It works just great. Thanks for spreading the word on TwisterOS.
Question: How is the video resolution on YooTube?
This looks so much than the standard Raspberry PI OS. Thanks for the video.
Twister seems to be outstanding ... Thanks for posting !!!
This is what i waiting for simple computer.
I would prefer a 64-bit version. But the 64-bit RasPiOS is taking a while to achieve release status.
@@John.0z there was an update to the Beta version in May
@@benjianderson1978 Yes Ben, I have it. There are still some problems though - notably for me, running Firefox and Thunderbird. Stellarium also fails.
But the basic OS runs very well, and is ever more stable with each update. I use it on a "server" Pi4.
I was waiting for this OS for a while, esp. for the KODI icon. Many thanks Chris, I have new toy to play with now.
Enjoy!
are yes the classic intro music, im running in the win10 theme you can almost forget its on a raspberry pi very impressive
Your not wrong about 95 ." What a computer should really look like "
YES! likewise, the Win10 theme was just as ugly as the real thing!
wholeheartedly agree
its chicago95. this guy had stolen his work. its on github.
No - this windows look will never catch on! Soon everyone will be back to DOS screens.
You’re*
It's nice to wake up with a new video.
Was out of the country and wow I missed a great video. Vamos EC!
Dos box? Retro pie? Man I am inlove with this one. Thanks for this video.
I've been using the lite version of this OS and it actually runs the Mac themes flawlessly.
Bold choice to keep your upload time the same when it coincides with England kicking off…love it!

Nicely done, Chris. Raspberry Pi Twister OS is an impressive operating system and surprisingly speedy. I'm going to give it a try.
Another wonderful video. I appreciate the hustle and all the time put into the content.
Great video Chris! I run TwisterOS on my Pi4 4GB with an SSD and a 2GHz overclock. It's a great experience. It's not my daily driver, but it's a great way to use a Pi4
Wow that is so cool! Who would've thought this was possible!
Always, right on time... Congrats from Brazil!
Thanks!
I think a new sd card or USB stick buying after work today . Another great video.
I run Twister on my Pi 400 and it's brilliant. For everyday tasks it makes a full-sized desktop computer redundant and it's an absolute delight to use.
Ditto here, it's so good! Seriously!
I love the 95 aesthetic too. Clean, no fuss and efficient.
Thank you Chris, as always you present us very interesting stuff !!!
Holy mother, I almost missed this vid since it wasnt shown in my subscriptions 😨😨😨
:O
wow. i imagine it would be time-consuming to test all these OSes. thank you for the vids.
I played around with most of the pi OS's. Liked Ubuntu but want to try this one. Thanks for letting us know what is out there. Great video. I also want to try this out on an old Dell 4 core PC and see how this works on it.
Good to see this OS catch your attention! It’s far too easy to decide to spend your work session in Win95, isn’t it? A fun video as always - Thanks Chris!
Hi Chris. Great video as usual. You forgot to show the Twister patcher/updater! Which is also very impressive
This really looks good. I think I have to break down and treat myself to a Pi4.
Very very interesting! Especially the possibility to run Windows programs. Audition is actually a big reason for me to use Windows. And probably we can run many other "must-have" Windows programs as well. 😃👍
Thanks for this, Christopher! Very nice...
Hooray!!! He finally did it!
Did you wait for the latest patch to do a review?
Twister is worth a try. Another awesome video.
WOAH.
This looks almost like the ideal linux distro for someone who's used to Windows or Mac. And the Wine x86 stuff, never knew RPi4 could emulate this!
Excellent video as always.
Excellent video Christopher, thanks for sharing.
The lag shown on calling up the mac application was actually less than what I see on my iMac (i5) for work.
About like my Hackintosh (pretty old, 10.8 I think) on an i7 with 8GB RAM... not exactly sluggish but certainly not snappy. Upped to 32GB and it was SO much better. Couldn't believe an OS that old would need that much RAM to perform well, but .... there it was.
@@Reziac And here I am, thinking 4 GB of RAM is enough to install OSX Catalina...
@@kantraa Optimist! :D
Wow such cool little OS. Thank you Chris
You make my every sunday good
Thanks Chris, I agree that the Raspberry PI has come a long way. Cheers from New Zealand.
Greetings Mike! :)
That is really quite impressive, and those themes were spot on. I'm honestly tempted to grab the X86_64 version and give it a go.
The themes are nice. Load of applications. Will give it a try.
Very nice OS. Possibly will istall it on my old notebook...
So cool! I’ll definitely be trying this out.
It's on my "to try" list now.
One wonders how they get around copyright laws with their themes. Those sounds, icons, pictures, and other UI elements are all copyrighted, no?
However they do it, it's *extremely* impressive -- the attention to detail is amazing! They're almost indistinguishable from the originals. *Very* well done!
Hi Mike,
What a nice surprise to see there is a version of Twister OS for RK3399 boards. I have one of those inside a TV box (H96 Max). It is a powerful piece of hardware with almost no software support as far as I know. Take for granted I will test it and come back to report.
Thanks a lot.
I am hearing echo when you speak towards the camera, just so you know. Great content as always.
I am going to buy a raspberry pi 4 JUST to use twister OS. I was planning on getting a jetson nano and putting a full distro on it but this seems so much more practical.
Perfect to get a Windows user to use a Raspberry Pi computer without retraining! Brilliant!
This is awesome ! Finally a linux dustro that really looks like Windows.
This, to my mind, is progress!
Exactly what I've been waiting for.
Thanks for another very interesting video! 😍
You have inspired me to go the mini PC route since last year. In light of the pandemic and the crypto craze and chip shortages (making video cards prohibitively expensive), I have discovered that mini PC's have come a long way since back in the day! I got me a Asus PN50 last year from Newegg and now I sent for an Asrock X300 mini PC this year. Thanks! I'm not going to shrink to the level of a raspberry pi because I am used to a terabyte of storage with 16 to 32 gigs of RAM. Raspberry pi however is making such strides, that perhaps in some years it will reach that level!
Look and feel factors are astounding.
I like so much those external videos... From your backyard! :D
More soon . . .
You always give us lots of options with SBC's, I like that. Now peeps can truly see SBC's are better than they thought. Just curious, would this also work on a BeagleBone Black?
I really liked the topic, thank you very much
:-0 really amazing OS great work Twister OS team :-) thanks for this coolll video sir..
If you want to speed it up slightly go to settings manager then startup then turn off pibright then reboot
I totally love how you celebrate the GUIs of old windows versions. I wonder what you would have said to a Windows ME theme ^^
Windows 2000 was a beast compared to consumer grade XP vanilla and SP1. Windows ME might even have been more stable than early XP, lol
I use it for some time now and it's very fine to use.
Twister is awesome, I have it on my Pi 400 with 7 theme. It looks good and performance is spot on.
Nice info,thanks for sharing :)
*_Loads of settings_* - 5:20 When you have to scroll up and down in a menu that *SHOULD BE A CLUE* that it needs to be *re-organized.* Either put the "settings" in a new window like the Windows Control Panel or at least break it up into different groups of settings.
Very impressive demo. I'm going to give twister a try. Have you run this on the 8gig Pi, and is there any performance gains with more memory? What about running MS office? What about running Mac applications? What about running python? I can think of a dozen or so questions, but I'll know the answer to each of them in a couple of days once I setup a pi. My primary interest is using the GP I/O under program control while having a simple and friendly user interface. Thanks for a very informative introduction.
👍👍 greatly explained! TY
I had an earlier version of this and it was OK. Now it seems a lot more stable on all the different OS themes (sounds and everything). Two major gripes... 1. You can't drag the desktop launchers into the bottom launch bar in the Mac theme and then delete the desktop icon, because it will also remove the icon from the from the launch bar. 2. I cannot find sound settings anywhere in system preferences or the pi system settings. *(Never mind.. found it!!)* Other than that everything seems to work pretty well, and the addition of the dynamic desktop pics in the Mac theme is pretty cool.😁
Wow. This is an impressive OS. I think I'll be keeping an eye on this. I'm still kicking around the idea of getting a Pi 4. I bought too many Pi 3 and Pi Zeros when they were released. lol... Maybe I can sell some and replace them soon. :)
Impressive project 👍😊
Looking forward to the Desktop review
Awesome video. Downloading now.
Enjoy!
