May it sucks that you broke down. Doesn't look like it's going to be too much to get it working again. At least the motor is not damaged. Nice to have friend to help get you out of a situation when needed.
When you say that you should have used the Western Star for this trip and you would have saved yourself that breakdown (minute 14:30), you can look at it from the "positive" side: if it broke down it was because it was about to fail (just like the Dodge), and even if it is an inconvenience, the breakdown happened to you in good weather, in a place where, even though it was far from home, the rescue was "easy"... PS at the rate you are doing exchanges, I think that by the time winter comes you will be doing rescues with an M1 Abrahams hahaha
That would be funny. Customer: "I need off road rescue"..Casey: " sure, let me get all the transport permits for my abrams.. will be there in few weeks..". 😂
When I travel in remote areas I also carry a satellite communicator. My Garmin Inreach Mini also links to my cell phone or tablet. I can type and full text messages on them. My children worry about dad on his adventures. With the Inreach I can let them know my location.. I have used it twice in emergencies. Once I had a water pump go out on my truck. I was able to have my son in law bring out a new water pump. The second time I was hiking on a wilderness beach and had to abort the hike due to bad weather. I was able to contact my wife and arranged for her to pick me up.
Man, I just realized… I’ve been watching your videos for 3 years now. Never had an interest in off road recovery, heavy hauling, tow videos, etc.. but here I am, and you are one of only 3 RUclipsrs I still watch from back then. Your content is fantastic, you show the good parts and the bad, and you are a genuinely great dude. I look forward to continuing to watch your journey, don’t care what you are doing, what you sell or buy, I’m here for it. Thanks and I’m glad you got home safe.
Casey! You have spent too much time this summer broke down beside or on the highways! You have a real good friend in Matt , that was awesome of him to come way out there and haul your truck and trailer back home. I think those plastic fan blades were prone to breaking. Thanks for taking us along Casey, thumbs UP!!
Amazing for a guy who loves speaking his mind, pulls no punches, cares less if he has haters and speaks fluent sarcasm......you sure do have friends that will drop everything and come to your rescue! You're a great guy Casey and Karma comes back full circle and good deeds are rewarded! Fan for life!!! 😊
Back in the days when I was buying fixing and swapping, I use to tell my wife it didn't cost me anything, I don't know why but she never seemed to believe me.
Real friends are the ones you can count on, no matter what😊 Sorry about your lost footage of the 14 Hour “Free” tow, car repairs that you paid for and your sponsorship money💰🥲 Glad that Matt could help you get back home. You always have such a positive attitude even in bad circumstances. Looking forward to seeing the old Dodge back on the road soon!👍😎
Sorry the truck broke down. Glad you are ok and that Matt drove over to help. I admire how calm you are in a crisis and how you methodically take the steps in your power to change your situation. I am also sorry about the lost footage. Looking forward to seeing those tracks and the 4 others you teased us with.
At 14:44 the decision to take the pickup was a good one. The fan would still have gone through the radiator at a later date and probably when you were on a job with it.
Garmin Inreach has a similar unit, the Inreach Messenger and sortve the inReach mini 2. But any of the gps unit ones can be paired with your phone and the Garmin Explorer and/or Connect apps (I don't recall if they need one or both) and then you can text from your phone instead of the GPS unit's keypad.
I've used a Zoleo both camping in rural Montana and for comms while working disaster relief. Can't speak highly enough on the unit. I did end up having an issue with battery swell due to leaving it plugged in all the time, ended up sourcing a replacement battery and installing myself for $35-$40. I expect years more use out of it.
Thanks for explaining why we never saw you going to help that couple with the broken down car. My wife and I were waiting to see the video. That's so awesome you paid for the repair with out a sponsor. your AWESOME! Love watching your videos!
Fwiw, the Inreach doesn't require you to use the screen for composing messages, it's a backup option. It uses an app just like the zoleo, does everything the same (personally I think better) and has the screen as a backup option. My Inreach has literally saved lives, I don't leave home without it. I'm so thrilled to see a RUclipsr in this space who's actually prepared 😂 it's refreshing.
My friend and I broke down in a U-Haul deep in West Virginia. 1996-pre cellphones. Was stuck at a gas station for 12 hours, had to unload U-Haul and repack a new one by ourselves and still drive to Charlottesville, va. What should have been an 8 hour trip took 21. 30 years later, we still talk that it was one of the best afternoons ever-while technology was limited, it was quiet and a great way to step back for a while. looking for something positive is a great lesson to take from a break down.
Got to agree with Casey .. breaking down isn't a drama when you're safely off the road , you have plenty of snacks & water , the weather & scenery is nice & you know a good Buddy is on their way to get you ..... but having all those ducks is a rare event
Sorry for the break down, I hate vehicle trouble. I chuckled when you said you had no $$.... except the breakdown. To be fair that truck may have broken down at any time. If I know you you'll check that truck out when repairing it to make sure everything was in order or upgraded. You find out who your friends are in a tight spot, thank GOD for good, capable friends, it's always great to see an appearance from them in your video. Stay safe and GOD bless
Inreach has the on device in addition to being able to text from your phone via Bluetooth connection. Or if you have a garmin watch some of them can be used as well to send through inreach.
That fan was going to come apart sooner or later. What a great place for it to happen! Only three hours from home, so a buddy could drive his pickup over to get you. There are a million other places you could have broken down, and lots of them are much worse. You made sure you were not dependent on cell service: Good foresight. You didn't have to hitchhike and leave your truck and trailer to thieves, or pay for a tow.
You are my #1 RUclips guy. You have the most unusual equipment that I have ever seen and I enjoy every one of them. Your big wrecker is great. I drove wrecker part time and never saw a rig like that. It makes a lot of sense that it is many trucks rolled into one. Sorry about the Dodge crapping out. Keep up the great videos.
I had to do a similar thing back in 08'. Towing my GN to Richmond VA lost the AC clutch bearing in the middle of nowhere. Pulled it off the road into a construction pullout, disconnected the trailer and drove the truck onto it. Strapped it down. Waited for a friend (2 hours away) to show up and tow me home. Thanks for sharing..
Oh, I went through that Kaboom/white exhaust thing driving across northern Nevada. Stuck thermostat = cracked block. Having to get the car fixed made all my young-person’s plans change. Went back to college.
That really sucks about the lost footage, but awesome for what you did to help that couple. That sort of stuff seems to happen, no matter how careful you are. Especially when there's a lot of stuff going on. I remember when I had a satellite phone for work, before cell phones were common. Didn't use it much. Didn't seem to work very well. Mostly, though, we used CB's and VHF radios to communicate. I would still have them, if I was doing the same job. The CB has been really helpful over the years. The VHF radio was also really helpful.
Thank You Matt for getting Casey home safe. I would be willing to bet that fan was going to "blow-up" no matter where you were at what ever point you would have been, Just glad it didn't happen on your way to or in the middle of a job.
What a fantastic example of improvisation for all the yutes out there! Be prepared everybody, and develop solid relationships along this journey of life and you won't be stranded for too long given mechanical failures. Thank you for including us in your adventures!
Thank heavens you’re Ok and you were prepared for exactly this type of emergency. It’s also a relief that the damage to your truck was only the fan and radiator.
I had this exact thing happen to me. Until today I thought I was just unlucky. Well, now I’m just another person whose fan decided to kamikaze the radiator.
Zoleo looks like a neat device. Break downs are something I think about but luckily haven’t had to deal with it out here in Nevada. Ended up ordering the zoleo thanks to your video for my trips to the desert.
It sucks your truck broke down, but you have a great friend that came and rescued you. Hope the repair is going to cost you an arm and leg. Always enjoy your videos.
I never "flew" any of the ones I drove but one nearly lifted off when a guy dove a D-6 over the beavertail of my lowbed on an icy up hill grade. He was a cool operator though.. When the whole rig started going backwards, he drove on up onto the tires and put the "brakes" on. It was super neat to watch.
Well, you CAN bolt them on to the Dodge that doesn't run...but it does kinda run...probably just not for long though. I love that little PUT camper, seems incredibly functional especially for its size.
I'm going to get starlink mini for calling in no coverage areas. Texting is okay but it's kinda hard to get ahold of a auto parts store via text. I've had them deliver a part to where I'm broke down.
Great video (as usual). But the most interesting tid-bit to me was your Zoleo satellite texting device. That is very slick - I may need to get one of those.
I am in areas with no cell service all the time. The Zoleo sure comes in handy. I use the 250 message plan and have never come close to maxing it out. Works great right on the dash!
The ultimate no trailer setup for tracked vehicles is definitely the roll back then you get two crowd favorites in one the rollback and the tracked “jeep”
Your explanation as to why you took the pu instead of the truck reminds of something my Dad used to say “a big horse loafing is better than a little horse working its ass off”. The point being if you are maxing out the capability of a tool it will break, if you’re using a tool at 1/2 to 3/4 of its potential it’s gonna last way way longer, also as you pointed out the slight difference in fuel mileage the added cost of the motels negated whatever fuel savings the pu created. I’ve always thought these guys trying to run over the road freight with a pu instead of a class 7, lightweight class 8 are really just fooling themselves if they think there is any cost advantage…. 25 years ago when a diesel pu got 25 mpg and 17th towing while trucks got 6 there was maybe an advantage but in todays world where the pu gets 8 to 10 and certain spec’d trucks are getting 9 to 12 there ain’t no advantage other than not needing a cdl
😮glad all well and safe. The fan would have broken somewheres else if had used another of your trucks. Figure it all as a good hand of cards. It could be raining at night on super sketchy piece of roadway. 😊
I drive a lot for work and have a Zoleo as well. Great peace of mind. Accidentally used the SOS when first figuring it out - their team was quick to respond. Haven't had a true need for it yet but I feel way better having it on hand.
I feel your pain my Ram broke down on the way home shredded a belt 118 miles from home. Thank god for AAA gold 100 miles 1 way towing still ended costing me 90 dollars out of pocket.
Even the recovery guy needs to be recovered. Great to see the ZOLEO in action. Awesome little bit of kit that works great in "no coverage" Australia. Only 27% of Australia by area has mobile coverage (cell) but 99% of the population has mobile coverage. Just saying.
You need a Starlink Mini. I got one a couple of months ago and it would work perfect for your travels. Your phone can fully work - phone calls, texts messages, web surfing, maps, email, etc - with cellular over WiFi via the Starlink. Mine has been working perfectly sitting on my dash when moving down the highway too.
Glad you had the satellite device. T-mobile and SpaceX are saying soon you will be able to send text messages from a regular phone to Starlink. Crazy to think that no cell service could be a thing of the past.
So, what you are trying to say, I think, is good choices were made? Or not. One thing that makes your channel so fun to watch, at least for me, is that you roll the dice a lot more than I ever would, living on the edge as it were. Now, when I do that, the nearest house or town might be a mile away. For you, a lot of miles.
Your a good person we need more people like you. A person that gives not takes it back to society make life the way we want it share. Love keep up the good work.
All my years of cross country truckin' I loved stopping in the middle of nowhere like that to take my breaks. The deserts and high plains were my favorites.
Oh man.. That sucks & that sucks that you formatted & lost the footage...well you wont make that mistake again... Have my thumbs up on the video for your sympathy...
In am I am going to pick up my next project. Not sure why I bought more work? Glad you called in a FORD. I honestly forgot to set oversize signs in truck. Need to remember in morning. I think only 12’ wide. 2 weeks 24’ wide. Why I took signs, flags out over weekend to check over. Testing lights. It’s a pita arranging that.
You even found your own "yard" to brake down and load up in. It will be interesting to see what the carnage really was. That satellite gizmo with the texts is cool. Glad to see the rollback is helpfu working for a friend as well as you 😊
Casey: well these were free and I’ll run them through the winter…. Also Casey: will post them for best offer on Facebook when he gets home. Hahaha love it man. You and I have trailer and truck problems!
It’s a bad day when the towie needs another towie!
In a towie.
Friends are a great value to have in times of need.
specially friends with benefits
You are a Wheeler-Dealer and I love it.
Sorry for your truck troubles.
You're a Good Man, Casey.
May it sucks that you broke down. Doesn't look like it's going to be too much to get it working again. At least the motor is not damaged. Nice to have friend to help get you out of a situation when needed.
Agreed. Looks like a new radiator and fan and she’ll be back in business

Was just going to say the inReach has the same capabilities through the EarthMate app. 🤙🏻
Starlink Mini. Service is $165 a month and will work anywhere you can see the sky.

Same 😂 Buying, selling, towing, yard talks, therapy sessions, shenanigans 😂 We are here for it all😊

You’re safe. The truck is repairable and/or replaceable. That’s the MOST important thing 💙 Love to the family

I was going to say the same thing. Truck wasn't overworked, just had a cheap plastic fan.
Yeay! Matt to the rescue.
Was a first thought, but he is already in Oregon
Exceptional proof that Casey wasn’t born with a permanent hat. I like this ‘incomplete’ Casey better. Good looking guy!
I look a lot younger wearing a hat as well. Those damn forehead wrinkles
You’re a good guy Casey, Needs to be more like you out there !!!
😂
Lol, I literally just read this message and I hear casey say... Where's my hat, I need my hat.. lmao
@@jamiemccomb3879 "I’m incomplete"…
Oh Casey, as an east coast driver, when you find a spot when the truck can be turned off and it's quiet --- nothing better.
Zoleo....THIS is just another reason why I watch this channel. I didn't know this even existed! I hate Casey LaDelle!!!!!
Garmin Inreach has a similar unit, the Inreach Messenger and sortve the inReach mini 2. it is great to have friends that have a truck to tow your truck/trailer home for you and your safe and the truck repair isn't major 👍
Casey, some of us watch you because you are a good guy more than anything. So we are more interested in your situation and safety than the tracks.
My friend and I broke down in a U-Haul deep in West Virginia. 1996-pre cellphones. Your a good person we need more people like you. A person that gives not takes it back to society make life the way we want it share. Love keep up the good work.
Casey, can you imagine how many people would be freaked out out there with no civilization in sight and no phone service. Looks like heaven to me.😂
8:00 I love my Zoleo, I've used it a few times as long as you keep them updated they work amazing. 👍
All my years of cross country truckin' I loved stopping in the middle of nowhere like that to take my breaks. The deserts and high plains were my favorites.
Great that your drone batteries were charged! A real asset. Thanks for the tip on Zolio...
Great job guys. Thank you
I love your channel you have a big heart always helping people.!!!!!
Hey Casey !! At least you ended up up better than Wrecker Rick( M/D) on their trip east !!
Oh man.. That sucks & that sucks that you formatted & lost the footage...well you wont make that mistake again... Have my thumbs up on the video for your sympathy...
Shame you broke down so near home, after 4 days on the road.....at least you got recovered and home....stay safe and see you soon Casey
Great video. Don't let the tracks land on your foot again.
I am very glad that it is your radiator and not your engine.
quite the Casey adventure. I do agree being out in the middle of nowhere is nice
No matter how well you perform maintenance you can’t avoid part failures.
