beautiful soundtrack and great list, though it is missing the most influential group of designers on 21st century fashion: The Japanese designers: Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto, Kenzo Takada, Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe, Dai Fujiwara, Yoshiyuki Miyamae, JOTARO SAITO, Jun Takahashi etc; also the American Rick Owens and the british designers Gareth Pugh, Christopher Kane, etc :) ~ just my thoughts - certainly Kawakubo, Yamamoto and Miyake have changed the world of fashion design for ever.
Hey Guys!!! I love all the comments but I do want to reiterate that this video is entitled most influential not greatest designer. So the names placed on this list was mainly due to their influence on the world in different spectrums and them withstanding the test of time. RL is undeniably one of the most influential designers he has build one of the greatest fashion empires ever existed whether you feel its simplistic or commercial you cannot deny the man is a force in the fashion industry.
Agreed! Especially on the top 3, I knew Chanel would be #1. McQueen and Christian Dior completely changed society's thoughts about fashion and what it could mean when they broke into the scene during their respective eras.
I think some other designers were also influentionals on the fashion world: Pierre Cardin, Guy Laroche, Rochas, Guccio Gucci and why not today's Tom Ford? Yves Saint Laurent belongs at the top of the list. Karl, forever I love you! Jean Paul Gaultier should go to Chanel.
+Jule Phillips Halston was a great designer but his reign was heighten particularly in the 70's and then his career began to dwindle. Although he one of the great designers of all time he did not make the list as one of the most influential.
Balenciaga was the only great couturier who was a master at sketching, draping, flat pattern, tailoring, machine and hand sewing. He could even grade his patterns to different sizes BY EYE!! He was A BEAST!!!'''
Paul Poiret should be there too. He was a designer and a businessman and started many things in fashion world like PR , branding and mass production with labels.
i disagree on the top two, Chanelshould be second Dior should be 1. Dior not only changed fashion but he has had the most revisited trends and styles of all time.... otherwise agreed
+foster siyawareva Remember the title of the video is the most influential and you must admit the house of Chanel has proven to stand the test of time. The house of Chanel has surpassed Dior in many areas throughout the decades so that is why I placed her as number 1. Her Legacy alone if untouchable
+foster siyawareva Also Channel re sell better lol. You buy a Chanel bag today tomorow it would rise or remain the same. Only some brand can hold their value. From top of my head is LV, McQueen and Hermes While Dior does not
I see YSL further ahead ... and missing Mugler and Ferre ... this list makes also obvious that Westwood was very important ... for McQueen and Galliano ...
WOA YSL, Yves Saint Laurent 13 ....number one by far for influence on everyday women wear, style and duration...(most copied designer with Chanel .....) , even showing stuff created by other designers under his label.....well documented piece of "shit fashion"...not style ....CRAP...
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else is searching for how to be a top fashion designer try *Greega Amazing Fashion Guru* (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
You know nothing.. this is the list: 1 Balenciaga 2 Yves Saint Laurent 3 Vionnet 4 Elsa Schiaparelli 5 Dior 6 Chanel 7 Charles James 8 Karl Lagerfeld 9 Lacroix 10 Rei 11 Miuccia 12 Armani 13 Gianni 14 Jean Paul Gaultier 15 Margiela 16 Alaia 17 Helmut Lang 18 Yohji 19 Ghesquiere 20 Galliano
Wow! Put them all together in this video is a real gift 🙏 I ended up crying of emotion!! My sooo Inspiring Couturiers! ❤❤❤

Shocked that Halston was left off the list! He brought sleek thoroughly American style into the international arena.
+Jule Phillips Halston was a great designer but his reign was heighten particularly in the 70's and then his career began to dwindle. Although he one of the great designers of all time he did not make the list as one of the most influential.
Dior will always be #1 to me
Dior was right when he said Balenciaga is the master of us all (designers)
Balenciaga was the only great couturier who was a master at sketching, draping, flat pattern, tailoring, machine and hand sewing. He could even grade his patterns to different sizes BY EYE!! He was A BEAST!!!'''
My role models. They made me dream! In fact, their designs are dreams made real
Paul Poiret should be there too. He was a designer and a businessman and started many things in fashion world like PR , branding and mass production with labels.
Hi jolanta! How’re you doing? How’re you doing?
great list!!
What about Louis Vuitton and Christian louboutin
Love the list!!! Would've nixed Madame Lanvin and replaced her with Vionnet, though. Modern fashion owes huge debt to her for mastering the bias cut.
Where's Gucci????
I feel as though we are missing helmut Laing he is the grandfather of streetwear I also feel as though Bally and Hermes should have made the cut
No Louis Vuitton?
Where is Gianfranco Ferrè in this top 20???????????
Lavin and Thierry Mugler.
i disagree on the top two, Chanelshould be second Dior should be 1. Dior not only changed fashion but he has had the most revisited trends and styles of all time....
otherwise agreed
why do you say that?
i think just as much as Dior though. Anyway i guess it may come down to taste.

Its has but so has Dior! hahaha ok agreed to disagree

What about Halston ?
Love the list!!! Would've nixed Ralph and put Vionnet in his place, though he, of course, is deserving of a high rank...
I see YSL further ahead ... and missing Mugler and Ferre ...
