Princess Leonor Enjoys Family Time in Galicia with Kings Felipe and Queen Letizia

Princess Leonor is enjoying one of the most family-oriented weekends since she joined the Naval Academy of Marín of the Spanish Navy as a first-year midshipman on August 29. After meeting her grandfather King Juan Carlos and her parents this Friday, the next day, the heir to the throne reunited with Kings Felipe and Letizia to enjoy Galician cuisine in the Rías Baixas.
The first in line to the throne and her parents dined at the Loxe Mareiro restaurant in Carril, a parish of Vilagarcía de Arousa, located in one of the most famous clam-farming areas in Spain. The Princess of Asturias attended the meal in the white uniform of the Navy, while the monarch and his wife dressed casually. For the occasion, Queen Letizia wore jeans, a white blouse, and a trench coat.
Although the weather gave them a break and the rain didn’t appear, the Kings and their eldest daughter dined inside the restaurant instead of on the terrace, which is one of the favorite spots for customers. In a very maritime atmosphere, they enjoyed a typically Galician meal in this restaurant, known for its menu featuring a variety of seafood, clams, and other shellfish.
After lunch, the Kings and their daughter left the restaurant where a group of curious onlookers were waiting to greet them, to the surprise of the other diners. They kindly posed for a few photographers and shook hands with the locals who had gathered, who commented on how beautiful Leonor looked and how "charming they are." The Queen spent the most time chatting with them, so much so that Princess Leonor had to fetch her to get into the car.
King Juan Carlos is in the nearby town of Sanxenxo to participate in the regattas, and this Friday he had a private meeting with Kings Felipe and Letizia and Princess Leonor. The monarch and Queen Letizia traveled to Galicia to celebrate, with a private dinner, the 40th anniversary of the King's Naval Academy class' oath of allegiance. Taking advantage of this occasion, the former monarch requested to see his granddaughter, leading to a brief and private family reunion of the four.
After 6 p.m., the former head of state left the house of his great friend Pedro Campos, president of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, who always hosts the former sovereign during his visits to Galicia. From this Pontevedra town, they traveled to Marín, located 40 kilometers away. They entered the Naval Academy, where the heir to the throne enrolled on August 30.
For their part, King Felipe and Queen Letizia arrived at about the same time, coming from Vigo, where they had landed around 7:00 p.m. The last public meeting of the Kings with King Juan Carlos was on September 9, when they attended the funeral mass in memory of businessman and philanthropist Alejandro Fernández de Araoz y Marañón. This reunion occurred just one day after bidding farewell to Juan Gómez-Acebo, King Felipe’s cousin and nephew of the former monarch.
Later that Friday evening, the Kings went to the O Peirao restaurant in Combarro, where the event with the King's classmates took place. During that time, King Felipe formed close friendships while serving in the three branches of the military, and he has remained in contact with them. In the restaurant, located in the historic center of the town, they enjoyed typical Galician dishes like octopus, pies, and sardines.
There were no other diners besides King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and the King’s former classmates, as it was a large group, and there was no room for more people. Additionally, the visit of the Kings served as the perfect finale to the restaurant's 50th anniversary, where the sovereign had been a total of four times, the first being when he entered the Naval Academy of Marín, where his eldest daughter is now training.
