Capital of Malaysia once upon of time ago was Taiping. Then they moved it to Kuala Lumpur. Taiping has most of the first development in Malaya (old Malaysia name).
Roti Canai Kosong (Kosong means plain) is the basic version, which you guys had. There are additional stuff that can be added, and Roti Canai Telur (with egg) is pretty popular. My personal favourite is Roti Canai Telur Bawang (with egg and onion). As for the dipping sauce, you can just have pure curry or pure dhal. Instead of dipping sauce, some people actually eat with sugar (not sure if you saw containers with sugar at the table, and that’s what that for) but slowly not chosen way of enjoying Roti Canai. Having said that, there are sweet versions of Roti Canai (e.g. with Strawberries, jams, condensed milk, honey, etc,) but the all time fav is with banana. They can be classified kinda like desserts, but then again it is not exactly so. Generally, Malaysian food is either savoury or sweet, and small bites/snacks (could be savoury or sweet), instead of appetiser, main, sides, desserts, finger food, etc
When you come to Kelantan, you should never miss roti canai with kari ayam..Try order 'roti kahwin =one simple roti canai+one with egg'. Hope you will love it as I do 😋 Don't forget to try 'nasi putih+kari ayam' for breakfast too.. The curry is not the same as other parts in Malaysia. Be safe guys
@Ellis WR brother there are only 2 places on earth you can find orang utan, borneo and sumatra. Taiping is the nearest spot. The humans are in cages, the ape is roaming free. And you can volunteer there too. I think australian youtuber " flying the nest " went there before covid to volunteer.
@@EllisWR few places in KL. The one ur having is the indian style roti. There also the malay style roti canai. Similar but the dough, choice of oil and the curry give a distinct taste. Sometime the malay roti have hint of sweetness. A good roti canai look like the one ur having, crispy and flaky and fresh from the pan. A good roti slap will give the flakiness.
In that shop particularly , the dhall is mixed either with fish curry or meat black gravy. Usually customers will order a separate plate of the beef black curry or a plate of daging cincang curry. This is one of the oldest mamak restaurant in Malaysia and the dishes served have remained authentic
Yes ...Teh Halia is so good. Sometimes when I am 'in the mood', I order Teh Halia Kosong. In Malay, Halia = Ginger, and Kosong = Empty/Zero, which for drinks, it means no sugar. The other useful one to use it just the letter O, which means no milk but with sugar. In Malaysia, it is common to add milk/sugar in your drinks (Tea, Coffee, Milo and the likes), so we use these 'codes' to customize the drinks: Teh = Tea + Milk + Sugar, Teh O = Tea - Milk + Sugar, Teh O Kosong = Tea - Milk - Sugar, Teh O Halia Kosong = Tea - Milk - Sugar + Ginger, Teh Halia = Tea + Milk + Sugar + Ginger. Also the milk is a condensed milk but if you want evaporated milk instead, the code is C.. so when you order Teh C, they will substitute condense milk with evaporated milk. I know some would ask why C and not E as in Condensed vs Evaporated milk... well, the C is actually referred to a common evaporated milk brand used by many coffee shops here which is Carnation 😅
@@OvDevilz long time never heard this words. i miss it. and about tea. i remember got another 2 words of tea. "tae tarik" and "tae c peng" but i forget meaning of it. however thanks for charing knowledge. ❤👍🙏🙂
@@arjarngeesakyant227 teh tarik is basically a milk tea with 'pulling technique" to cool it down a bit and adds the frothy head that add bit more rich flavours. If you want normal milk tea, just replace the word 'tarik' with 'panas'. In Malay, Tarik = Pull (thus the pulling technique), Panas = Hot (Tarik will cool it down, so when ordering Panas, they won't Tarik the tea¹). For Teh C Peng, well you already know what Teh C is... and Peng just means Ice. Yes it is the same as Teh C Ice. Generally you can use both but Ice is more common, some places didn't utilize the word Peng, which is literally a Hokkien word for Ice. Malaysian use mixed languages in daily lives and sometimes we use Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil in one sentence. Teh Peng is Ice Tea but using Malay (Teh) and Hokkien (Peng). Earlier sentence marked ¹ is a mix of English + Malay, and yes, sentence like that is normal in Malaysia. Our diversity didn't stops at cultural or religion or race, but rooted deep inside our soul to share and mingle together like in daily conversation. Oh some establishments use Teh C Peng in their menu but it is actually a 3 Layer Tea, that substitutes 1 ingredient: sugar. It is Teh C with Palm Sugar instead of normal sugar and they preparing it by skillfully pouring Palm Sugar (black color) first, then C (white) is second, and Teh (dark brown) completes the process of making 3 layer coloured tea in a glass. After you took a picture of the beautifully layered drink and post it on Instagram, then to drink it, just stir and mix them all together while smiling at the skillful tea maker as you destroy his creation (this final scene is not recommended to post on Instagram) 🤣🤣🤣🤣
