I rarely disagree with Dave, but I do disagree on Trump's performance. I normally can't stand Trump's oratory "skills," but I thought he did relatively well. He is never going to lay down a complicated, intricate analysis of issues. But he did the main things well last night, and he came off as very reasonable on issues like abortion. That stuff is important to normies.
There were also multiple times where instead of answering the question he was asked, he instead talked about how great he was on some other topic or kept talking about the prior question. Plus calling Biden a Palestinian was such a weird play
I don't really think his answer of leaving abortion to the states satisfied anyone leaning towards the pro-choice side of the topic, especially considering how every state which actually put it to a popular vote saw pro-choice victories even in safe red states like Kansas. Leaving it to the states basically means giving state lawmakers the power to decide this issue for their constituents even though the evidence seems to point to republican voters themselves being somewhat split on the issue. I personally feel like this debate was more of a Biden L than a Trump W, but we're still choosing between the oldest presidential candidates in history and that doesn't necessarily mean that Trump completely has it together either even though he's more coherent than Biden, not to mention how both could deteriorate over the next four years. This entire situation is so fucking sad it's honestly kind of funny.

It's because the norm for our elections is a lesser of two evils argument, with the other side being the devil. The only real exception I can think of since the 90s was 2008 where a lot of people voted for Obama because they legitimately liked him.
They gave Joe one chance. He agreed he would step down if he did not win the debate. He won’t let them use the 25th on him it would just make him infamous and he is all about his standing in history.

Trump was on point but he did get sidetracked rebutting Biden instead of answering the questions asked…the moderators did a fair job; not fact checking, letting the candidates use their remaining time while reminding them of the original question. Trump looked genuine and my biggest take away is that he just plain cares more about the country than any other establishment politician.
Strongly disagree that Trump wasn’t improved. He acted a lot less petty, impulsive, immature, etc. He had some pretty good answers too. Especially early on there was a bit of a shocking impact of how he actually came off line an informed statesman as opposed to a media hooker

I think the intention behind the debate is to get rid of him. The split screen was absolutely damning for Joe, also they scheduled this debate way earlier than debates of the past, giving them time to coordinate swapping out the nominee.

Trump is excellent for our nation. Not perfect, but what he does affects us the most in positive ways. He's a peace keeper too which is a big point that most any other candidate can not say for themselves as they're part of the war machine.

My jaw dropped watching Biden walk out on stage. I just couldn't believe how sad he looked. My wife mad a sad face and said that she feels bad for him. It's crazy that he's running for President. And Trump didn't exactly excel himself. All of his answers were bland and nonspecific. He didn't have any big sound-bite gotcha moments. He didn't "own" Biden, like he did with Clinton in 2016. He was just "meh." But he still beat Biden by a mile.

It's because the norm for our elections is a lesser of two evils argument, with the other side being the devil. The only real exception I can think of since the 90s was 2008 where a lot of people voted for Obama because they legitimately liked him.

Trump was on point but he did get sidetracked rebutting Biden instead of answering the questions asked…the moderators did a fair job; not fact checking, letting the candidates use their remaining time while reminding them of the original question. Trump looked genuine and my biggest take away is that he just plain cares more about the country than any other establishment politician.

Most people wouldn’t run and just live their luxurious life have most of the country still like you but he chose different. My grandfather had Alzheimer's he used to have blank stares. My grandfather had the best stories (most were exaggerated) but when he was towards the end he trail off telling a story he told a million times and then would say "you heard this a million times" and then didn't finish the story. What I saw out of Biden last night reminded me of my grandfather. He needs to step down. He needs to go home and spend whatever time he has left with his family. I think the intention behind the debate is to get rid of him. The split screen was absolutely damning for Joe, also they scheduled this debate way earlier than debates of the past, giving them time to coordinate swapping out the nominee.
